First time at that bar and the last time. Food was great but over priced, so where the drinks. Then next to my stool I witnessed the bar back chock hold a guy backwards off the chair. It was totally unnecessary to take it to that level. The guy wasn't even be violent at the time. I guess he got asked to leave earlier in the night. Apparently he came back in to drink, the bartender that night was the instigator of it all. Then, I watched lighthouse point finest police department hog tie the fucking guy. I can tell you one thing that bar back should have charges filed against him. I almost defended the guy that got thrown down to the floor in a chokehold. We come here pretty often and have always had great service, so today was honestly disappointing. We stopped in during the daytime and the blonde, short-haired woman with the bob who was working the at the bar completely changed the experience. I was the only one ordering a beer, so I handed her my ID. Instead of simply checking it and handing it back, she slapped my ID back onto the bar and then proceeded to ID my boyfriend, who wasn't even ordering a drink. She then told him his ID was expired. If his ID was expired, fine but why was he being ID'd in the first place when he wasn't ordering alcohol? & just wanted to eat...... And the attitude and way my ID was handled was completely unnecessary. We've never had an issue here before, which is why this stood out so much. It's one thing to do your job and check IDs. It's another thing to make paying customers feel unwelcome and uncomfortable for no reason. We came in to eat and have a drink, not deal with an attitude. If you are coming in for a game, highly recommend making a reservation (all tables in the place we're reserved an hour before the game today). I've been coming here with my family since I was a kid, and I've never had a bad meal here. Everything is great, especially the burgers, wings, and cheesesteaks. However, my personal recommendation is that you need to try the Packy's chips. If you're visiting from out of state, you'll see some of the pubs down here in South Florida serve chips. These are not your typical Lays. They're made in house, hot and fresh. They come with a delicious homemade honey mustard with a kick. Get them, and thank me later. The ambiance is mostly up to you. During the week days, it's nice and quiet with the perfect amount of lighting. If you're in the mood for something more lively, I'd most definitely recommend coming here on the weekends. They've got darts, pool tables, and great music. They have tables and booths for seating. The decor is like that of a traditional Irish pub. What compelled me to write this review though, was the service in particular. The staff are polite, thoughtful, and attentive, with great attitudes. Every time my grandmother and I go out to lunch, we come here. I love these outings we have, because every time she is treated like a queen and it makes me happy to see it. (And, I had severe dietary restrictions growing up. They followed any instructions we had to a T. They never got an order wrong.) There have been upgrades made to the place in the form of new TV's and an additional dart board, which is great. $18-$20 for a sandwich was a high price when the food was good, but the quality has slipped as of late and shelling out $40 for a well done burger (regardless of how you order it), cold fries, a beer and a tip just can't be justified. Came here to meet some friends for a debate watch party. I appreciated the large parking lot. We ordered some drinks during happy hour and afterward. The beer was nice and cold. I tried a chicken tender, stuffed potato skin, and a mozzarella stick from the group table. The mozzarella stick was my favorite. I then ordered the Shepherd 's Pie. It was ground meat and vegetables topped with mashed potatoes. It was tasty but became much better with the gravy. The debate was fun to watch on the big screen and all the other TVs. Julie F invited me for dinner at this Irish pub. Opened in 2010 the building used to be a Flannigan's in the 1970's. The owner of the former John L.. Sullivan's next door took his bar when he closed and placed it in his new place Packy's. A lot of the sports paraphernalia that hangs on the walls inside Packy's used to grace the walls of John L. Sullivan's. We came on trivia night so it was fun to play along from the sidelines. I definitely want to come back and play for real. They offer it on Wednesday nights at 7 o'clock. We opted to sit at the bar. Besides the groups playing trivia people around us were playing pool and darts. All of the sports games were showing on the TV's above the bar. There is live music every Friday and Saturday night from 9 PM to 1 AM. Poker is Monday and a Thursday nights at 7 PM. Happy Hour is weekdays until 7 PM. I started off with a Strongbow hard cider. For dinner I had their Wednesday night special of 3 sliders for $7. You could have cod, bangers with grilled onions, or hamburgers. I wish they had a plate of all three but you had to pick one kind. Julie and I were able to try each other's which was nice. My burger sliders were more like three whole burgers. I was starving and I managed to eat all of them and the hot crispy fries that came on the side. I loved the relaxed atmosphere of the pub and if it hadn't been a school night I might have hung out for another drink or two. The price was a deal and the food exceeded my expectations. My friend Lisa had been here several times before with her boyfriend and had recently written a review that caught my eye. I'm always on the look out for a unique bar with good food. So when I was looking for a place to go to dinner tonight, I remembered this place. One thing that sounded appealing were their nightly specials. I'd read about their Monday night burgers and figured they'd have other nights with options as well. On the other hand, I wasn't sure if it would be a place where it would be comfortable for Ariel W and I to come by ourselves. After sending a quick text, I was reassured. We found a parking spot in their lot quite easily. They were fairly busy as we found out when we entered that they were also holding a trivia night. We grabbed a couple seats at the bar. The circular bar is quite large. There are also regular tables, an area with pool tables and dart boards, and a lot of TVs all on at once. Service at the bar was very good -- friendly and efficient. We'd seen on the board as we entered that tonight's specials were sliders. They were offering three choices: cod, cheeseburgers, and bangers (sausage made into a patty served with onions and cheese). We asked, but you couldn't mix the types. I ordered the cod sliders (without onion) and Ariel ordered the cheeseburgers (also no onions). Each slider also came with chopped lettuce and tomatoes on them. There were 3 to each order. We were able to trade one and try the other kind. You also got your choice of a side with the sliders. Based on the bartender's suggestion, we both ordered French fries. The platters that were delivered were huge. The sliders were closer in size to regular burgers. The fries were in a huge pile -- and mine were well done as requested. They also served tartar sauce and some lemon with the cod sliders. They were very good. I also liked the cheeseburgers, but I thought the fried cod was better. There was a mix of ages in the people there. As well as a mix of tourists and locals/regulars. It's easy to see why they are busy. There are a number of other items on the menu that sounded appealing -- especially the Irish dishes. I also saw some wings that looked quite good. But you really can't beat the various specials -- our sliders were only $7! Then again, it's also a good place to come if you want to participate in their trivia games. I loved visiting this place! It's a true, Die Hard Bills Bar! The only time you'll see them put a hold on live music is during a Bills game and what I've been told, if you don't reserve a spot during a game- you ain't getting in. As for food... Everything is what the very best bar/ restaurants in Buffalo would offer. I have visited Packy's sporadically over the years. The following reflects my experiences: 1) Service: Every time I went the service was rather good. It was better than most bars. 2) Entertainment: The bands they hire are above average. The performers are also really into their job, which is a plus. Said entertainment is better than most bars that I have frequented. 3) Price: The prices are fair. 4) Atmosphere: The bar is nice, but it feels a bit dark and dated. There is room for improvement. 5) Food: It is about what you would expect from bar food. There is nothing to distinguish it. I would have given it the push to a 4/5, but I am a very 'tough sell' for a bar. I do not particularly care for the bar scene and rarely drink. I generally only go to bars when alot of friends want to visit. Regardless, if you enjoy going to bars, Packy's is fine choice. read more
