I've been twice within the year. Back in January I had the shop install an OS Giken LSD into a stock A80 Mk4 Supra Differential. That setup ran great, but I eventually needed to switch to a lower gear ratio. I took the LSD and swapped it into 98 GS400, and had them recheck it. My 2500 Silverado Rear Differential housing had a large crack and water from the boat ramp damaged everything inside. Hooper found me a used housing and replaced all the bearings seals and replaced my 3.73 gears. I even paid extra to have them replace the rear hub wheel bearings and reseal the front differential. I'm working on a project 56 truck and received my rear end fully assembled but raw from the manufacturer. So I'm order to powder coat the housing it had to be disassembled and then reassembled. So I brought it to the legendary Hoopers. First point I want To make is that the rear end was taken apart almost immediately. But I had to go so I came back the next day to find all My parts placed neatly in boxes. And the housing quickly loaded in my truck. After I brought it back for reassemble again it went together super quick. Second point I wanted to make was regarding customer service. You'd almost expect auto shops to inherently have pissed off old guys working the counter. These guys here really understand customer service. I was changing out the rear axle to a 3.08 in our '84 Chevy El Camino and had calculated the axle ratio using the number stamped on the outside of the axle which was originally a 2.41 axle. I started the job and discovered that the previous owner had installed a 3.42 which uses a series 3 carrier. I couldn't use the Series 3 carrier for a 3.08 ring and pinion so after doing a quick Yelp search, I called Hoopers and they had a used Series 2 open carrier sitting on the shelf. An hour or so later I showed up with my Series 3 carrier and Anthony swapped the bearings over to the Series 2 and sold me a new pinion nut too. We chatted about how to set the pinion preload and Brian even gave me a booklet that explained the process step by step. Anthony and techs did a great job installing Eaton truetrac in my S197 8.8. My first torsen style diff! Very excited to take the car up to angeles crest. Just picked up the car today and drove it home. Absolutely no issues. No noise, very smooth. Just like the OEM Ford trac lok but I can feel the difference through the drivetrain and shifter, it's tighter. Initially, I dropped off the diff, seals and complete gear installation kit. I thought I would have spare bearings and shims etc left over from gear install kit to pick up since it was just a diff swap. Nope! I was very surprised to find out that the tech actually dropped the whole rear end, went through the whole thing using all the parts supplied and even painted the housing. That's a lot of work in such a short period of time (2 day turnaround) Original quote/estimate Anthony provided never changed. I recommend Hoopers period. This business is on point! read more

Terrible! After having them inspect and change oil in my rear differential, Within 50 miles I had problems with my Detroit Electrac locking differential. Now I have a broken shift fork (no longer available) and slightly damaged ring and pinion, and my jeep cannot be driven. I had to remove axles, differential, and pinion to get the broken part out of the housing. They must have installed the shift fork incorrectly when reassembling, but will not admit it. They refunded the $250 inspection fee. Hoopers said I should buy a new differential ($1000+$450 install) since mine is "obsolete" and now broken! Unacceptable! Even after I had the Bureau of Automotive Repair contact them they will still not help me! UPDATE (after Hoopers replied to this review): Hoopers reply has several errors/lies: 1)At no point did Hoopers tell me: "your unit is worn out and not engaging ". 2)At no point did Hoopers tell me: "the shifting mechanism was worn out". 3)Hoopers did NOT tell me that I was not supposed to run it in locked mode. I never selected lock mode, but because the shift fork was broken (after being installed incorrectly) it engaged in locked mode (or partway in between). 4)Hoopers never told me that it would break if run in locked mode. 5)It is obviously NOT impossible to engage the shift fork incorrectly. I have since had the shift fork professionally welded back together, reinstalled, and now everything works correctly. I have been testing it for the last few weeks with no issues. If Hoopers had actually told me the above mentioned things, they would have been completely wrong. read more

Took my car in to swap out gear and pinion. Once complete car came back with abs sensor light and traction light on (was not on when dropped off) They explained that this was normal and expected instead of taking responsibility. Took it to 2 other third party mechanic and was told the light was due to sensor wires being damaged during the gear install. Long story short - in the process the car came back with gears installed but with additional problems (wheel speed sensor damaged as well as ABS sensor damaged). Very unfortunate since I had other projects I would have wanted to utilize hoopers since they are the gear experts in SFV area but I will be taking my projects elsewhere - even if I have to drive further away than deal with this headache again. read more

I drove in from Palm Springs - in arriving I was expecting that they won't be able to get it done because I arrived so late in the morning. I drove 45 miles per hour - from Palm Springs - it took longer than expected. Bless their little hearts the guys moved around some schedule repairs to fix my car in three hours. When Anthony test drove the car he asked me if I drove the car there "rolled his eyes like OMG" I was told I had no oil, all the bearings and whatever else is in a differential was melted. I was apprehensive in doing the work since the two transmission people in Palm Springs quoted me higher prices and a three week waiting time to finish the car - and hinted to me that I would be ripped off from Hoopers. This was not the case - the car drove better than it ever did - the guys were polite and completed the rebuilt in three hours. I have an 08 Suburban that was making some noise in the rear end and suspected bearings going out. I didn't have confidence taking it to a local garage since it takes special skill to work on these.
