Hoov's Market located on Glassell got my attention. It is a cute, independent liquor store that has a nice design and a fun mural on one side. Places like this give a town its local color. This is one of those old school neighborhood stores which is actually a pretty good size store with lots of products to offer. I only dropped by to purchase our office pool Lottery tickets. The cashier and assistant were both nice and helpful while they took care of my transactions. read more

CREEP ALERT- I went here for the first time today to grab a pack of Tylenol. The guy behind the counter noticed my clothes had paint on them and asked if I was an artist. I said I was, and as I was checking out, he proceeded to ask me what I painted. I told him Photography Surfaces, and he said he was hoping I painted naked boys and girls. I was caught off guard and said What? And he responded by saying that he would come visit me while I painted but only on naked days. Never going back- what a total creep. read more

If i could give 0 stars i would... This guy was an absolute asshole sorry but ITS TRUE! I walk in and he automatically eyed me up and down, when I asked if they had handles he just snarled and pointed and I asked for a specific one and he says WELL GO GET IT! This man had no manners whatsoever! First of all, there is a nicer way to say that! Someone must hate their job... would love to see some workers who are actually nice to their customers! This place is a liquor store, so if you're into buying alcohol, this is a good place to go. I didn't go to Chapman so I don't call it PInky's(do they call the Arco "Whitey's" or Rod's "Bricky's"? Those crazy suburban white kids). read more

I cannot believe that this place has not been reviewed. WOW. that means that I'm just going to have to write more. So this is place is not what I'd call a grocery or market. It's a liquor store. strait up. And I also wouldn't call it Hoov's. All the locals call it Pinky's. And by locals, I mean Chapman Students. There used to be another Liquor Store that was a block away and on campus but now it's the public safety office. So you pretty much have to go to Pinkys if you live on campus or nearby. The store used to be owned by a Korean couple and now it's owned by some young middle eastern guys who are really cool. Since they've begun working they have brought in more varieties of hard liquor and now hookahs. And for a college liquor store they have all the necessary beverage choices. Cheap beer, cheap hard liquor, cheap chasers, and cheap wine. Today when I was driving by they had a keg on the roof, so I think that means they do kegs too? Now, if you go here for the groceries, don't get your hopes up. They pretty much sell what you can by at a chevron station. Plus cereal and top ramen. I usually go here before a party to get alcohol or I'll go here after I work out at the gym and I'll get an Arizona Blueberry Green Iced Tea. Every time I get one he charges me a different price. I think they make up the prices to some things. It's not even logical. Once I was charged $1.50 then the next time $1.25. Some funny random facts about Pinky's is that they used to have fraternity photos posted on their counter. And on the outside of the building they stenciled words on the side, like "beer" and "hookah". They've since painted over it, but they had "cigrettes" up there, misspelled and all. You can also get away with fake id's because they don't scan. Although cops come in every once in a while. My roommate freshman year got caught. all she got was a ticket. read more

Typical liquor and convenience store. Wide selection of alcoholic beverages that are reasonably priced. Plenty of snack options such as ice cream, chips, and candy. If you're a beef jerky fan, there's also a pretty big selection near the cash register. The owner is a pretty funny guy even though I don't understand half of the things he says. Also, this place stays open late (2 AM?), which is always a good thing. read more

So it's a small joint. But it's also frekin famous and probably gets so much buzz because they are next to Chapman U. Actually, they are the only liquor store you can reasonably walk to from the school, so I'm 100% sure the students know this joint...too bad they don't write about it. What is FANTASTIC is that they offer some craft beer. You think that's easy? Not really. Watch "Beer Wars" on netflix. It's show you just how crazy beer monopolies are. So kudos to you Hoov's! Yet again, it's small and run down looking. And no prices. I would think they are making great money during the school year and so they would invest in their look and what they can offer. Then again, maybe I'm just being an annoying hipster who wants a trendy liquor store. read more

This place smells like cat litter. I don't know why, I don't think they sell cat litter. Gennifer L. is right. It's called Pinky's by Chapman students. I didn't know it actually had a real name. One time I bought an RC Cola here. That was not the best decision. But every bottle of Andre ever bought here was a good decision. The young Middle Eastern guys that own this joint are kind of awkward, at least to me, and they're always trying to sell some ridiculous crotch rocket outside. I don't know, you can't go wrong with this place. They have cheap liquor. read more

First and last visit. I walked the whole store twice looking for a popular cheap brand of chardonnay. No acknowledgement or help at all from the cashier he just watched me while I was obviously looking for something.... Then when I finally asked the cashier literally said "I don't know?!" I bought two large cans of beer. There was a 50 cent extra charge to pay debit and he asked if I needed a bag before I paid,so I am assuming there is a bag charge too.All the fridge doors have condensation on them, like they are not cold enough. The owners and his employees at Hoov's are awesome. They're always friendly and helpful, even when there's throngs of peeps at the counter. The liquor store also has a pretty good selection of beer, plus their beef jerky is clutch. They also carry milk, orange juice, and basic home goods. A solid place if you're a college student in the area. read more

Not sure what the business or products are like, nor will I every find out because I called there today to ask a simple question about a beer, the guy said 6 words then hung up on me!! I immediately called back to ask my questions or find out why someone in business would be so unprofessional, all I got was an answering machine. Dude, you're in the wrong business!! Open late to cater to those students who are up studying at 11:00A.M. Does not have extra charge for credit card transactions, which is a definite plus compared to the gas station directly across the street. The place does have a weird smell, but luckily it's small so you are in and out fast. I'm giving it a 3 because the worker kept starring, uncomfortably, at my buddy and I who were just deciding which energy drinks we should get. Otherwise, it would get a 4 for convenience near the school and good selection of snacks+drinks. read more

As a Chapman student this is the easiest place to purchase alcohol or snacks. I've been to other liquor stores in the area and "pinkys" is by far the cheapest. Ron the owner is super nice and on occasion has given me some alcohol promotional items like banners and what not that hes doesn't want anymore.
