I recently picked up my black lab, Jacks, after a week of boarding, and unfortunately had a very…read moreuncomfortable interaction with the groomer. The first thing said to me when I asked how he did was: "He's a DICK." I was honestly shocked. Apparently, he did not like the high-powered dryer or having his feet handled during grooming. While I completely understand that some dogs can be difficult to groom -- especially large dogs unfamiliar with professional grooming environments -- the way this was communicated was extremely unprofessional. A professional groomer could have easily said he was "difficult to groom," "anxious during drying," "didn't tolerate the dryer well," or "struggled with foot handling." Any of those would have communicated the issue appropriately without immediately insulting my dog the moment I reunited with him after 6 days away. What made it more confusing was that I had originally asked how Jacks did during boarding overall, and only after I questioned the comment did the groomer add, "But he's so sweet otherwise." So clearly this was situational grooming behavior, not an aggressive or dangerous dog. I've washed him at PetSmart before without issue, so while I understand every environment is different, the bedside manner here really left a bad impression. I left feeling uncomfortable and honestly, still kind of stunned by the interaction. The groomer also recommended I continue booking grooming appointments so he could "get used to it," but after that interaction, that's going to be a hard no from me. The initial boarding staff when I dropped him off was kind, and Jacks otherwise seemed happy and well cared for during his stay, but customer communication matters -- especially in animal care.

He is a larger dog and absolutely hates getting his nails trimmed, fought like crazy when I first brought him in almost a year ago, and to complicate things further he also has aggression towards other dogs. Heidi completely understood his fear and has been the most patient, kind, understanding, and calm person to help him get over his fear I have ever met. He now sits relatively quiet when she does his nails, she has been such a wonderful, calming presence to help my guy get over his fears. I love how they genuinely care about the needs of the pets. I live about an hour away but I had been trying to get my older rough collie into a good groomer for a while - but the wait was causing her to suffer. She had a skin condition that required unfortunate clipping of her double coat for topical treatment months prior and I struggled to support the regrowth without matting. It was hard for me to manage her thick coat as it grew out from that treatment. I was so grateful to get the appointment, as our previous groomer was booked out months (I hadn't needed so much help since when I had been pregnant 4 years prior - but with the trim she seemed to be less brush-able). She came home from this groomer with a much happier coat and skin - and looked much more herself (compared to before the needed clipping). She is a large breed 10 year old - so I was very happy to have her returned happy with minimal stiffness. Lexi is grateful. I can tell the staff took time and care, since she was not super stiff or lame on return. I am deeply grateful. I was in happy tears seeing her after her appointment. Thank you. Thank you so much. She actually got excited getting out of the car and going in today! They put a little scarf on her when they finish, it's very cute. When we got home I took the scarf off and she immediately picked it up, smelt it, ( it smells like spa), licked it and walked around with it in her mouth. Currently she is sleeping on my lap wearing her scarf and seems very happy.. this groomer obviously makes my pup feel safe and comfortable. That's very important to me..
