Old Thunder Brewing wasn't one of my planned breweries on my list but sometimes these impromptu brewery experiences (more often the case actually) are good and rewarding stops. For this brewery we had two different types of beers. Both very solid and good. The first beer was the Streetlight Stars. This beer was a Cream Ale which I do really enjoy when I can get a hold of one. Flavor highlights in this beer are creamy, a hint of sweet corn, crisp and a clean finish. It's also a nice light bodied beer. The other beer was the Midnight Blue which is a porter. This was good too with it's flavor characteristics of Cocoa, Malty, Smokiness and a dry finish. It's a nice, dark beer to have. So definitely a good and promising start with this brewery with the two beers we had! read more

This is a top 5 brewery for me in Pittsburgh. They're very dedicated to the craft and make some great beers. I like that they have some cask beer on now and I know the tap lines are always clean. The historic post office building has been beautifully renovated into a comfortable and spacious taproom. There is street parking and a few spots on the left hand side and back of the building. They also do some fun events during the year like dark lager tap takeovers from other breweries around the state. They often have food trucks. Service is always great. They have a nice patio outside. They are not a dog-friendly spot so leave the pups at home this time! read more

Interior very pleasant and nicely done. Beer excellent. I had the 2 malt forward beers - a stout and I believe it was an English ale. Later very good and stout wonderfully smooth and delicious. Wish they did flights so I could try others easily. They do a half pour but I can only do 2 of those per visit! Parking a bit difficult even at an off time. Fellow patrons friendly. Bar tender knowledgeable and helpful. Sushi food truck outside delicious but pricey. All in all, definitely recommended. read more

I've been wanting to go to Old Thunder for so long, I'm excited I recently was able to check it out! It's a really cool spot in Blawnox. The building used to be a post office so it's cool to see the elements they kept. There's lots of seating inside and outside, and the decor is beautiful. They have a great selection of their own pours as well as some local drinks from Goodlander + Stateside. They don't serve food but they usually have a food truck + you can bring in your own food from neighboring restaurants! Overall, definitely will be back! read more

Old Thunder has been open a few years now and I'm surprised I haven't reviewed them yet. We don't go often but have gone a handful of times. First, the space. It is inside the old post office. They did a beautiful job fixing it up. I love when there is a variety of seating available. There is bar seating, tables of different sizes, a couch and some comfy chairs. You can even drink in the "postmaster's office" which is fun. I would caution that you may want to avoid the special events unless you are prepared to deal with some crazy crowds. It is right on the main drag in Blawnox. Parking can sometimes be a pain but not usually too bad. When the weather is nice there is a lot of outdoor seating available. They frequently have food trucks out front. If there isn't a special event typically you can find a place to sit pretty easily. One even we went to there was pretty much no open seating, people standing everywhere and long lines for beers. This can happen lots of places but just be prepared. They make some solid beers in a variety of styles. They typically have a good number of IPAs, which aren't my style. Then a few in the area of lager or Pilsner etc. We can find something to drink if we wind up here. However, typically we only seek it out when they do special releases and that is just because it's our preferred styles. They have put out a few really good barleywines, some tasty stouts and most recently a Wee Heavy. Follow their social media to see when something new gets released. We usually wind up with draft and bottles when they do. Old Thunder can definitely be a fun place to sit and enjoy or beer or meet up with a group to hang out. read more

Tried old thunder brewing for the first time this weekend. It was very crowded and difficult to find a seat at first, but they had the heaters on outside so people could stay warm! They have one large tv above the bar if you want to watch sports. They have a few less beer choices than other breweries, but there were two IPAs that we really enjoyed. And they have a large selection of to go beers, some extra ones that weren't on tap. They also sell merch and stickers (got to add a new sticker to my brewery sticker collection which is fun!). It seems like they keep their food truck calendar up to date as well, which is very helpful! read more

But there is a decent amount of street parking. Today was a busy day, I had to park a few blocks away. I wish I was hungry today when I went because the awesome Moonlit Burger patty wagon was there. My date and I stopped into Old Thunder Brewing on a Tuesday evening. There was trivia going on inside, so we sat outside so we could talk. They also had a food truck parked right outside. We ordered some food and some drinks and just hung out on the patio. The place itself is super clean and comfortable. The staff were all very kind and helpful. This was my favorite brewery in Pittsburgh! One of the owners took the time to talk to us about their beer and made us feel very welcome. I sampled 2 and took 1/2 a case home. The Brewery is located inside an old post office. Which was kind of confusing at first. But when you think about it, why would a post office have tables and umbrellas out front. Good beer, really cute space. The brewery is in the old post office and it's huge. The largeness of the space didn't stop it from feeling cozy on a cold December night. There were tons of beers on the menu. A lot of IPAs. I'm not an IPA person, but I tried the Abnormal Beliefs - a brown ale - and it was delicious. First time we got to visit this brewery. It was easy to get to. Perk it does have some parking in the back and on the side. Mask awareness inside. Place is spacious. They were not doing flights which was a big disappointment to me. The only way to try is 8 or 16 oz pours. They said they are low on glasses. I had the False Kingdom and hearts of history and my wife had the Kolsh. They were all good but I liked the hearts better. They had a food truck blue sparrow out front. Good place, to visit. Hopefully next time I can try a flight and have a better idea of what I want to try. We sat outside. Nice outside seating in the front. read more

This is an old post office that was converted to a brewery. They don't serve food but they have food trucks every day that you can order food and bring into the establishment. I like sitting outside but was worried because it is right in a busy road but it was actually very nice. I recommend sitting outside! If you need your air conditioning there is a beautiful sitting area inside where you also order your drinks. They have a couple of non-beer and non-alcoholic options so everyone can enjoy. To be honest, we ventured out to Blawnox yesterday from Jeannette for Gyros N'at. However, to our surprise, we also found an amazing new local brewery we can't wait to get back to! From the minute we talked to the staff about grabbing a table until the minute we left, all of the staff were SO friendly. I didn't even know it was their second night open until talking with one of the bartenders. I would have thought this gem was open for years with the efficiency, knowledge and kindness of their staff! The inside is beautiful and I love the post office gems they've kept, like the postmaster room. Great selection of beers but the Kölsch was my FAV. I urge everyone who enjoys a great atmosphere coupled with a good beer to try. read more

Love the beer but...Went on a cool rainy Friday with my wife & a friend. Grabbed a table outside for the 1st round but it was getting too cold for my wife. We asked for a table inside & was told we were next on the list. About 15 mins later 3 dudes showed up & sat outside next to us. The door guy ignores us & calls these guy in & said he'll get them an indoor table. 5 mins go by & we still hear nothing. So I asked the door guy for the status of our table & he said he'll check to see what's open. I said what about the 3 guys that just went in & he said he'd check things out. I said forget it, we're leaving. He had nothing to say. No apology. Nothing. We had just eaten at the food truck & were ready for a couple more rounds & definitely some 4 packs to go, but we left feeling disrespected. Normally I wouldn't go back but THE BEER IS SO GOOD. I'll probably give them another chance at some point. read more
