I had ordered Fomu here earlier this week on a slower day, so this was quite surprising. There were no signs posted to alert dairy free customers that it's their policy not to serve Fomu when there are more customers in the store because it takes longer to scoop. I wrote the owner when I got home and was told they were aware of the issue. I'll be going to JP Licks in Wellesley or Bubbling Brook in Westwood in the future. If you're dairy-free, maybe you should too.

They had some bizarre chemical taste that lingered in the mouth for quite a while, and we all had to rinse with a drink to get rid of it. We are never buying chocolates from Dulce Leche again. I saw some chocolate alfajores (my fave), and some other alfajores with what looked like a fruit filling. I asked her what the filling was, and her response was, "Um, I don't know." That is an unacceptable response. She works there, and she should be able to answer questions about every item they sell. To me, that question would be a pretty common one, so "Let me find out" would have been a better response. I bought a few things and I'm sure they'll be good. But I hope they'll train their folks more thoroughly.

In all your years of going to restaurants and food stands, have you EVER seen a customer refuse something they ordered because the portion size was too much? Well, I'll willingly put my right hand on a stack of hot fudge cans and swear to the Chocolate Chip gods that I saw such a rare curiosity yesterday at Gibson Brothers Dairy Farm. A guy in front of us ordered a large cup of ice cream, and when the window attendant handed it to him it sure looked like it was the size of a quart container. The shocked customer said, "there's no way I can eat all of this, and I hate to waste food, so can you take some of this back?" Of course, she couldn't take it back, so the guy bravely took away his ice cream, sat at a picnic table with his buddy, and gave it the old college try. Luckily, we didn't order any large portions, just a small soft serve and a small cone. Our order was the culmination of a very long study of the flavors on the menu board, because Gibby's has over 70 types of hard ice cream and over 20 flavors of soft serve. My wife's small cone of banana walnut chocolate chip was immense, and the window attendant told us they use a scoop the size of a softball! The ice cream had plenty of walnuts and chocolate chips but we thought it was light on banana flavoring. I went with a small cup of white chocolate macadamia soft serve. Both of our ice creams ran around $10. Gibson Farms has been in Worcester for 100 years and has become a local institution. There are benches and picnic tables on a deck, and more benches and tables on the lawn to the side of the stand. And how did our friend with the gargantuan cup of ice cream do? Sad to say we saw him toss half of it into a trash can after he hit his limit. So -be advised a "large" is obscenely large, but a helluva bargain for around $6.

Not impressed. I stopped by Acai Dot Com in Framingham for an acai bowl. I needed something sweet…read moreand refreshing for a dessert. I eventually decided on a large acai bowl ($14.99 plus tax) with two simple toppings included, choosing pineapple and crunchy pearls. My order was ready and bagged quickly. However, they gave me the acai by itself packed in a rectangular plastic container and the toppings separately in smaller plastic containers. This is not an acai bowl! It was like they were lazy and couldn't be bothered making an acai bowl (bowl containers?) with the toppings already on top and bowl sealed. For the amount of money charged, I would expect a nicely made acai bowl instead of the DIY. The acai with the two toppings tasted very sweet, which was expected. I've been to other places which specialize in acai bowls and for similar prices or less, I can get a custom made nice looking acai bowl with lots of interesting toppings included, not just 2 ordinary toppings. Look up Playa Bowls, which set the bar on how acai bowls should be made. This place really needs to put forth some effort in making acai bowls nicely for takeout customers. DIY acai with minimal toppings is not acceptable.
