    Taco bar serving area
    Janis W.

My son was getting married and nearby Zeeland, and I needed to find a rehearsal dinner location. We live in Ohio, so I was not familiar with the area. We started doing research and saw that HopCat in Grand Rapids had a separate seating area for larger groups. We liked the fact that they offered a taco bar option, as the bride to be needs gluten-free food. The weekend we were looking at was the start of Art prize in Grand Rapids, so we didn't want to compete with the crowds, and reached out to the Holland location. This location does not have a separate seating area for larger groups, but the manager was super accommodating and created one long table for the 35 of us. He set up a side area for the taco bar, plus the additional appetizers and desserts that we ordered. Throughout the whole process, the staff was very accommodating, and the night of the event, a Friday night, the staff handled us with ease. Everyone was very happy with the food options, and I was grateful for such a successful dinner. I would highly recommend this location, especially if you're a pre-arranging for larger groups.

You ever been to Holland? No. Not the country. Cause same. Anybody here Dutch? No. Not the country. Also same. So peep this. No. Not the marshmallow snacks everybody hates. Here goes. We got there fairly early, so there was ample space and it was quiet. Didn't even have to wait for a seat. Had the pick of the litter. Red Carpet Treatment™ Service was great! Very accommodating, funny, and put up with my BS. I know I'm not a fan of chain restaurant reviews. And sometimes I honestly forget if I've done any. I'm basing this solely on memory. And I have the memory of a soggy package. NOT a sealy posturepedic mattress. And I suppose if I want to get legally specific, this place might be a chain, but I have zero in my hometown. Anywho. Came out here to this place after meeting my brand new baby niece, Selah Hope. We started out smashing down some apps, as you're legally supposed to do. Our apps were their boneless wings and cheese curds. Boneless wings were your typical wing shape. Cheese curds were your non-typical square shape. Boneless flavor? Nashville hot. Curd flavor? Cheese. Curds came with Bloody Mary aoli. Would absolutely induce this in a non-legal way. Forgot to take a picture of the apps. They were unstoppable. Would absolutely order three more of these. Each. I ordered my villain origin story meal, Nashville hot chicken sandwhich and "cosmic" fries. We have to call them cosmic fries and NOT crack fries because they changed the name in 2019 due to crack fries being an insensitive reference to drug addiction. It's true. Google it. AOL it. Yahoo it. Either way, I would become addicted to these cosmic fries. And the chicken sandwhich? Thiccc, juiced up, perfect breading to chicken ratio. Great Nashville hot flavor. It was one of those chicken sandwich's where there's a lovely Rim of Chicken™ that extends past the bun. She's also a messy bessy of a sandwich, so keep your napkin handy. Sometimes it's not about the amazing cheese curds and chicken sandwiches we eat. Sometimes it's about the friendships we make along the way. Cheese curd squareness: 10/10 All chicken food flavors: 11/10 Fry re-eatability: 10/10

    Asparagus

The management here really has the audacity to upcharge you $2 for a side of asparagus and then serve you *four* stalks. I thought the kitchen must have run out, but the waitress looked so embarrassed to tell me this is standard protocol. What a joke. Do better!

We had a brunch reservation for 10 people. They did a nice job accommodating large groups as there was another larger group there at the same time. Service was a little slow but it may have been because of this. I had the biscuits and gravy. I really enjoyed it! I asked for a side of cheese sauce to dip my potatoes in and that made them even better as I typically don't like diced potatoes with breakfast. The biscuit, gravy, and egg were delicious and good portion size. I would recommend this dish! Almost all of their meals come with the diced potatoes, it would be nice if they let people sub those out with fruit instead. The meal was good but it ended up being too heavy on my stomach. Almost all the menu options were very heavy. My husband got the Michigander burrito, it had potatoes in it and as the side. Again, it was potato overkill. They are also heavily seasoned. Both burrito orders appeared to be missing bacon in them too. Otherwise, he enjoyed his burrito.

Everything was spectacular from start to finish. Our consummate and incredible waitress Lily was so helpful and knowledgeable of the food items and gave amazing recs. The ambiance was so fun elevated but the food was so accessible. The Brussels sprouts made fans out of people I was with who were very hesitant toward the idea of Brussel Sprouts. Cannot recommend this spot enough!

Love this place. The beer is excellent. Service exceptional. Seriously. Love it that they do up nice half plates when you're sharing. Of course you can't eat here without having a beer and the cozmic fries! Rueben sandwich is superb. Cheers!

I miss the Hopcat in Broad Ripple so, so much. So whenever I'm in Michigan, I try to stop at a location. This one was fine. It took them a good 10 minutes or more after seating is to get us waters, etc. Service was very sparse. But the food was as good as ever and the location was clean and convenient.

Came in for lunch during the week. Our service was great, food was hot and timely. No lunch specials but pricing for the regular menu was decent. It wasn't too busy in the restaurant, they had sports on the tvs.

    Bell's Oberon
    Kimberly K.

Came here for a quick lunch on a sunny and warm Thursday afternoon. It was pretty quiet inside but it was that lull after lunch and before dinner time. I sat up at the bar and ordered a Bell's Oberon. If there's anything you need to know about me is I don't like beer. But I liked Bell's! The bartender working was friendly and made a couple recommendations on the menu. I went with the Madtown grilled cheese. It was excellent and had three types of cheese (dill havarti, muenster, smoked gouda) on sourdough bread. With thinly sliced apples, garlic aïoli and honey this was a different take on the traditional grilled cheese sandwich. Try this sandwich! The flavors work and are amazing. I was equally impressed with the roasted red pepper gouda bisque. It also came with fries which were hot and crispy. Great place, great food, and very reasonably priced for a downtown touristy area!

Hopcat recently updated their menu & they have a lot of fun, new dishes! You can usually be seated pretty quickly, and their cosmic fries are a must.

Cowboy burger: pretty good. Juicy meat cooked correctly. Fried are especially good, just a bit to. Salty Hazelnut Honey whip coffee: didn't realize it has vodka. A bit too much for me. Hazelnut flavor's good though Michigander Burrito: not really burrito, egg is a bit too sweet. Hash is overcooked. Staff's really nice

We were given the option to sit outside and were so happy we did! We all got Shirley temples along with our meals. The waitress was sweet and the food was good! Nothing too great stood out to me but nothing to complain about!

The two times I've done this, the host always understands. They pick up the phone and call downstairs to see if there's any open spots and let us go down there. There are stairs or you can take the elevator to the basement level. After you've arrived downstairs you can find the door with the black lock symbol and KNOCK THREE TIMES. They will let you in and welcome you to find a seat. They have a water station where you can help yourself and some tables and a couch and bar seating. The menu is pretty fantastic. I haven't had a drink that I dislike yet! The prices are a bit elevated but that's okay for a fancy drink imo. Hope you check out this gem if you're ever in Holland and want to go on a little adventure to find this place! We arrived at 9:45pm and were seated at a cute, cozy little couch and table setup. The hostess handed us both a drink menu and a separate food menu. Looking through it, I was thrilled to see quite an expansive cocktail list broken down by "chapters," as well as several small snack options clearly marked with a gluten-free (GF) label. Unfortunately, the experience was a bit disappointing once we tried to order. Despite the online hours stating the venue closes at 11:00pm our server informed us that the kitchen was already closed. There is no indication online of what time the kitchen closes, and it was incredibly disappointing to be handed a dedicated food menu by the hostess only to be told moments later we couldn't order anything. When I asked our server for recommendations and which specific cocktails were gluten-free, she mentioned she was new and had to go check. She returned about 10 minutes later, only to give a vague answer that "most drinks were gluten-free" without offering an actual recommendation or helpful suggestion. My husband ended up ordering a non-alcoholic drink, but between the kitchen confusion and the lackluster service, I opted not to get anything at all. It's a cool venue with a lot of potential, but they should put their kitchen hours online and better train their staff on the menu.

I wanted something fun, so I chose the Don the Beachcomber, a rum-based tiki cocktail that is flamed tableside. My friend got the Obstacle No. 1, which is a bourbon drink that they smoke at your table. Very theatrical and fun! These drinks were $20+ so pretty pricey, but worth it for a fun occasion. We had a nice time just relaxing and catching up. I would say it's not a great spot for a large group, but definitely a fun date night place. They have a small food menu of offerings from the restaurant next door that sounded tasty. We had just eaten but I'd be interested in their small plates. I'm so glad I got to experience this place. Our waitress was really nice and overall service was quick. We ordered the Lemon Chicken and the Wedge Salad. The reason why I'm giving this restaurant 3 stars is mainly because of the chicken dish. I was expecting it to be more citrusy, but I feel like whatever lemon flavor it was meant to have was lost by some sort of sweetness. I think the Meyer lemon butter made the dish was so oddly sweet it mixed in with the rice underneath. Overall, this dish was sadly disappointing since we were looking forward to something savory and herby but got what felt like a sugar bomb for chicken. The salad was good and loaded with toppings, however, I felt like there was way too much dressing that drowned the salad once it was all mixed. If possible, I would get the dressing on the side. All in all, great ambiance, good service and a wonderful location. Perhaps I just ordered the wrong things. Still worth checking out, if you're in the area!
