Deceptively bad advertising. They promised you a happy hour and then put a fine print and place to ensure that you will never get what they offer except for a very small window of time. I had two experiences there one with their spicy or burger and one with more they're blue cheeseburger and both left me completely flat. Whoever packs the to go orders should consider a different coverage for the soups. With the bag as big as it is and it not being filled, there's a lot of space for things to move. Had a soup spill all in the bag due to a lid that 1, did not fit properly around the rim of the cup as if the lid was too big for the cup and 2, had a straw opening! The cups are also not secured in anything. Just sitting on top of a tower of to go boxes...not the brightest move. read more

HopCat is everything I want in casual dining: -well-rounded food menu: check -well-rounded craft beer menu: check -fun atmosphere: check, check (What can I say? I love cats, and the HopCat menu has some frisky felines art on the menu) The beer menu is constantly rotating, and although a lot of beers run out over the course of the week, there are always a few gems on the menu. I was thoroughly impressed by the Tall Grass Brewing Key Lime beer. I've also had the cheese soup, the grilled cheese, and the "crack" fries. They were all pretty heavy but very good. It's also a great place to watch sports events. I've already mentioned the atmosphere somewhat, but it is one of the highlights to me. The art on the wall is very fun and a pretty weird (both things I like). It is very roomy within HopCat with plenty of seating, high ceilings, and a roomy patio outside. I have not had a bad experience with the service. I could see how some people feel that it is slow, but I have been pretty leisurely and low-maintenance with my visits here. The service staff here is younger (seems to be a lot of college students). This is one of my favorite places in Lincoln, and I can't wait to go back again and again and again. read more

However, when I walked in the front door the young man who looked like he would be checking ID's never once looked up from his phone. Went here with a friend for my 21st. The restaurant itself had a great theme, and the food was awesome. I had the grilled cheese, and the waiter gave me cheese for fries for free, as well as covering our drinks for my birthday. He was great at conversation, and seemed to care about our experience. Great atmosphere! Service is pretty good, not as great on the patio though. No smoking on the patio, even though there are lounge couches off to the side away from diners. Food is glutinous to say the least. Had poutine, odd that a potato (fries) based dish came with periogies on it, which are mashed potato stuffed dumplings. It's like potato on potato. I wish i could give three different ratings to this place because it's like Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde. First, the good. I would give their beer selection and quality 4 stars as it is truly outstanding and features a lot of local craft brews, which is always good. However, their food gets a solid 1-star rating. Both my wife and i ordered burgers, and both were overcooked and flavorless. We ordered medium and got well done, not to mention that the patty was basically round and the toppings would not stay on the burger. So, poorly cooked and constructed! Their "cheese" is bland and runny. Tomato was a pale yellow color and mushy. Bacon was good. Crack fries were decent compared to the rest of the meal but a bit over seasoned and don't hold a candle to the parmeasan truffle fries at a few places in Omaha. My wife's burger was even worse...the "egg salad" that was supposed to be on top of her burger was nothing more than 5 small pieces of celery...i mean, wtf, who puts celery in any form on a burger! The cheese curds were a solid, congealed lump of grease. On to the service, which gets 3 stars. The server/bartender we had at the bar was quite nice and prompt, but she never offered to take our food back and redo it after we said both burgers were over cooked and did not offer us any compensation either, not even an extra free sample. It wasn't her fault the burgers were over cooked and very poorly topped, but it is her job to make sure her customers have a good experience, which we didn't. In the future, we might come back for beers but will definitely go somewhere else to get food! read more

One of the newest additions to the swiftly expanding Railyard area in Lincoln is this new and vibrant pub. The establishment can hold probably 200 people and every time I've visited it has been literally out of the door. But credit to the staff as I've never had to wait more than 10 minutes for a table and they text your when the table is ready. The beer selection is outstanding, you will find something you like I guaranteed. Coming from England when a night on the town usually involves some good largers that can be very hard to find in the Midwest. Lincoln is especially fond of IPA's and most hop influenced beers which I find hard to drink. I was pleased to see at least 10 Larger's/Pale Ale's to choose from. I tried at least 5 and each one was really good and varied in taste from Pilsners to Kolshes. The fact there's over 130 micro brewed beers on tap and many from the local area makes this place even better. I was worried we were going to get another generic large airy pub (cough cough Longwells) serving over priced domestics but this is clearly not the case. My wife tried a peach influenced Ale that was outstanding, not over powering with sweetness but comforting with a hint of fruit none the less. Now onto the food. The menu is predominately burgers, wings, fries, sandwiches and the odd salad. Pretty standard pub fare at first glance and I was concerned it was going the way of typical sports bar edibles. We ordered 8 Fire Wings and a serving of Poutine (wonderful cheese/gravy influenced dish served atop fries with bacon. Yes a literal heart stopper but worthy of the indulgence. I have eaten this many times in Canada and most people living up by the northern boarder know this comfort dish well. It was nice to see it on an Midwest menu and even more pleasant to see it was served on a sizzling skillet with a healthy portion of their 'crack fries'. When you eat at this restaurant check your guilt at the door because the food is very fattening and indulgent, but once in a while that's okay. The wings were nice and spicy but more importantly not greasy and slimy. They were partly grilled which is the key to any decent hot wing and backup with large meaty wings was a deal sealer. They were delicious and second only to the honorary wings served at the Watering Hole. We finally ordered a Chicken Quesadilla that was very tasty. Served on a lightly fried corn tortilla (not greasy or over fried) stuffed full of savory meaty chicken and fresh salsa, salad and sour cream on the side. It was nice to taste some good quality black beans which were thrown in for good measure. The server was very polite and efficient in service mastering over at least 8 tables with great ease. She checked back a few times during our stay but did not pester, a rare talent in a town full of college kids with little to no service experience. The decor is funky with large industrial ceilings which unfortunately makes the noise level very high. But the graffiti and black and white wall paper adds zest to the experience. It could have go horribly wrong with the decor but they avoided it keeping the place youthful. The music is predominately classic rock and some funk which goes well with the atmosphere. There's a very large wrap around bar with multiple serving stations and one bathroom in the large main room. There's outdoor seating weather permitting and plenty of windows which helps the place have a light and vibrancy. So if your looking for a formal restaurant experience or a quite meal this is not your place. But if your looking so sink some quality beers and eat some indulgent bar food this is your place. I will definitely be back and am glad to see this pub in Lincoln. read more

I had such a horrible experience in this place-- especially with the "higher-up manager" Jeremy. I would not recommend it, and will never come back. While waiting for the midnight train headed west-- in Lincoln because my dear friend entered hospice to die from cancer-- I came in here after Mellow Mushroom closed at 10pm to kill an hour. During the walk over through the deadest downtown on a Monday night, after some guy in a car propositioned me as a hooker, I was seated to discover that they had no hot tea or coffee (told by the waiter that they had just shut down the coffee machine). Said he could bring me hot water, which I agreed to & tried to pay him for but he refused. After using my own tea, & settling in for 40 minutes, this Jeremy guy came over & told me that I had to buy something or get out. I debated that I tried to buy my hot water, & he said that they didn't have a key for hot water on the cash register. I told him that I would buy an iced tea & just not take it, He agreed, & sent the poor waiter kid over with a bill for $3.50. Now, isn't it illegal to charge a person for something that they didn't even buy? & didn't Starbucks get in trouble for kicking people out without buying things? Well, I guess some scrawny, power-tripping dude who thinks it's cool to kick a woman out on the streets at night needed his $3.50-- after the waiter told me I could just hang out & have my tea. I am a clean woman with luggage who just didn't want alcohol or sugary soda. What the hell is wrong with this place to have a "manager" like that? It's really unfriendly, unprofessional, and unfortunate. Considering that this place is one of the only ones open downtown, it's no wonder that they are dead empty. The waiter felt so bad that he paid for that tea that I never received. I will be calling the owner to complain tomorrow, and will never be back. read more

We visited on opening night and got in within 25 minutes. The waitlist app is very cool and the hosts were friendly. Our waitress was nice and the food came out relatively prompt. I loved the Muffin Top burger. At the table we also had (and loved): BarZee burger, fries, fish & chips, and macaroni. The beer selection is fantastic. Two complaints: the flight system for beer is clunky (they should have sushi-style ordering papers and trays) and the music was too loud. We'll be back. read more

While going here, we waited an hour for our food, then after waiting we waited for ketchup. only ketchup for 10 minutes so one of us went up with out a mask by accident, i understand they can be fined for that, but you don't have to be rude. a man there was very rude to the person with no mask in our party, then Jess the assistant manager yelled across the restaurant at another person for getting up and talking to us with no mask even though they were part of our party. then after that our party was talking to her and she kicked us out. we asked for a manager. we even paid for the bill although we were kicked out and we didn't finish our meal. very unprofessional. i'm very disappointed. read more

Straight Outta Detroit what an awesome addition to Lincoln's food scene HopCat is. Set in a under used, more relaxing area of the Haymarket. Upscale really cool decor with huge classic rock albums depicted on the ceilings... the service is spectacular very friendly wait staff and in a town where anybody with a heartbeat can get a job in the service industry having good servers who know what they're doing is rare any more. Probably the biggest beer list I've seen in Lincoln. Food doesn't have to be as good as it is but thankfully it is have an awesome vegetarian chili and all kinds of upscale bar food. read more
