Stopped in for dinner. Restaurant was busy so had about 20 minute wait. Once a table is available you receive a text message. Hostess gave us a booth because of the wait which was very nice of him! Just missed happy hour but they had a nice menu with weekly specials. I chose the burger and fries. DELICIOUS! Also had a lemonade beverage and got the macaroni and cheese with bacon along with a dessert to go. Well packaged in a brown bag that was stapled. Ambiance is cool and there's also seating outside which is great in spring and summer. They have televisions playing sports and news. Our waitress was pleasant and gave great menu recommendations. Soooo... this was a really disappointing visit. Met a friend from out of town here for Sunday brunch. The special holiday drink menu looked fabulous. We both had a bourbon cream hot cocoa. It was barely like warm. Marshmallows were toasted nicely on my drink and pretty burnt on the other (I wouldn't have minded burnt marshmallows). The food was just meh... the Yuletide Boursin dip with garlic Parmesan puffs was ok. The "puffs" were fairly heavy and dense. There was far more marinara sauce than anything else. The pesto on top of the marinara sauce was delicious. I would recommend skipping the Maple Bourbon Chicken and Waffles. The waffle was so dry. The applewood bacon was the best part of the dish. The chicken was a bit overcooked, so it was also dry. The good gravy skillet was "peppery" according to my friend - which is literally in the description. She felt it was too peppery. The "over easy" egg was way over cooked! It was over-hard at best. The kicker was when our server asked us if we wanted more water and poured less than a half glass each of water - which was about 3 sips. (And yes, the water pitcher was full, she could have easily filled our glasses). I will add - the hostess was a delight! Wow I was surprised by how packed it was for a Tuesday night. The entire packing lot was full! Thank god my friends and I made a reservation. It took awhile for our ciders to get to us. We got: - honeycrisp cider: it tasted like apple nice and I wish there was more carbonation. - chicken Caesar wrap with cosmik fries: I enjoyed this a lot! I will say that the portion is actually a little smaller than the wraps in NYC. I paid the $1 to have the salad become a wrap and for the fries. However my friends and I were surprised that they charged $0.60 for a side of ranch lol. - supper club wrap: I tried my friend's and I prefer the chicken Caesar! Decent Hop Cat, I've been to the one in Port St. LUCIE, Fl. Before. I had two West Coast IPAS that was really good and needed. We tried the following: Sriracha Brussel sprouts- i thought they would have more flavor and heat. We had to ask for extra sauce, eg okay. We came here for dinner as a big group. We are all attending a trade show at Suburban Collection and there was about 16 of us. They put us at 2 tables next to each other. It was ok. I know it's hard to seat that kind of larger group together. We had 2 different servers. The other table was ahead of us on ordering. Not sure why that was. Extensive beer list. They have ciders which was great. I love cider. I got one of the Blakes it was good. We ordered some apps for the table. They were ok. The nachos and a sampler. Good for a large group. For dinner I got the blackened shrimp. Which is small. You get a little bowl. The other bowls are larger. You get a good amount of shrimp and the rice was ok. This wasn't spicy at all. I was hoping for a bit but it's very tame. Not a lot of mango salsa but it was good. It's a typical sports type bar. Large space that can get super loud. It was very crowded I am sure the trade show had something to do with that. So it was very loud in there and a bit hard to hear convo down the table. Service was good. Hopcat has been a go to for years. Their fries are too good, Cosmik Fries are a must have always! They've really elevated their cocktail offerings in the last few years, everything has been delicious. I tried their espresso martini last visit, Presto Espresso...SO GOOD. Their Mac and Cheese was phenomenal and way more filling than anticipated. My only complaint would be the to go containers. The compostable boxes are not pasta friendly and most of the box ended up getting stuck in the food when reheating. This is a great spot to meet up with friends. I am much older than the normal demographics and been eating out as long as those in it been on earth so I was not impressed and so was my brunch lunch eating out group. The food was average at best especially the Mac and Cheese I had. Another complained that the bacon on her sandwich was under cooked. Only was the fries was a hit. Service was below average by not coming back enough to check on the table and also had to remind about refills and take home boxes. A star was taken off for that. I always take off a star off for Pepsi products instead of Coke products. While it is easy to get to and plenty of parking, I won't be back. I have been to this chain for 3 times. Now that I have been here about 4 times, I wanted to share some thoughts. I like Hopcat! The large spaces open and bright with many windows. There is very nice outdoor seating and I have to mention that the bathrooms were updated well and they are cared for. I have ordered mostly apps, burgers and the fish and chips! I really do enjoy the fish and chips with the crispiness and the generous portion and what seems like homemade tartar sauce! Very good! the onion rings are fried to perfection and the pretzel nuggz are a nice shareable. The burgers are very good! Juicy, flavorful and many ways to order with different cheeses and various toppings. Each time I have visited Hopcat, the service has been splendid! Weeks before the announcement, a friend and I were discussing potential replacements for Claddagh, left empty since Dec 2019. I loved Claddagh and will miss its fish and chips and Reuben sandwiches. I thought either Jolly Pumpkin or Hopcat would be a good replacement given the interest in microbreweries. I was pleased to see that Hopcat would open up even though I've never been to any of its locations - I guessed right! I waited impatiently for the opening and was in the neighborhood (at Mitchell's) when the soft opening was taking place. Like everyone else, I had heard about the fries and was eager to try them. The restaurant was partially full when I arrived after the lunch rush but there was still a wait. A slight one for me but others had longer ones. Whereas Claddagh was very dark and had numerous rooms, as expected of an Irish pub, Hopcat is bright and cavernous. Garage doors at the front open up to a patio. Despite the sunny, summer day, the doors were not open nor was anyone dining out. A bar is at the center of the main dining area. It had the requisite TVs and was surrounded by numerous high tops. Booth seating was available along the sides of the space. Along the perimeter of the restaurant are low tops. There is another room in the back. I ordered the elotes to start. I love elotes and was excited to try this restaurant's version. I found it to be very dense, overcooked even, tasting more like a flourless corn cake, than a dip. I did not enjoy it. I also thought the fries were overrated. The seasonings on them were tasty but the fries were a bit dried out. The burger, however, was delicious. There were 8 on the menu, including vegan and turkey. I went with the Hangover Helper which included a perfectly fried egg, lovely bacon strips, and a hash brown. Hash brown, oh, happy days! I also ordered mac and cheese as a side. I didn't see it on the menu but my server indicated it was available. The cup of mac was coated in a savory cheese sauce and quite yummy. I liked the server. I thought she was pleasant and informative and I noted that she hopping. There seemed to be a lot of people hanging around the hostess stand but not a ton of servers throughout the restaurant. read more

First, HopCat has a great beer selection. That's sort of their thing. So it's hard to find any problems with that. For the food, it can be hit-and-miss. I feel like sometimes they try too hard and overdo things making the food a bit tedious. The mac and cheese is always a safe bet, as are the fries. The burgers are sometimes great and sometimes not so good, so I've been leaning away from them lately. And the grilled cheese sandwiches tend to be so gooey, they get cool and chewy very quick. And seems to be a thing with places lately, but either broken hooks or missing hooks in the restroom. I don't appreciate having to sit my bag on a bathroom floor. read more

I have loved HopCat since college days in East Lansing! Over time the menu has changed but I felt the food remained great, until now. We got the rodeo and cowboy burgers for pick up. Online ordering was very easy and customizable with exceptional staff at the host stand. It was busy when I picked up however I was helped fast and easy. Despite the location being great and actual restaurant nice and clean. The food was just not good. Those burger Pattie's seemed to be frozen grocery store burgers. There was absolutely no flavor and they weren't cooked well at all. There wasn't much for the toppings on the burgers despite us getting burgers with several toppings. The fries were pretty good however not cooked fully. Sad day when HopCat burgers aren't good anymore. Hopefully things will change in the future so we can return read more

HopCat is a chain restaurant so I expected the same quality as other HopCat locals. It was trivia night so I don't know if that was it, but... We ordered the Cobb salad with blue cheese dressing and a grilled cheese. The grilled cheese met their usual standard but the salad was HORRIBLE. The lettuce leaves were too large and didn't taste fresh, the tomatoes looked like they had been under a heat lamp, were warm and to very tasty, the chicken was dry, and the bacon and toppings were so tiny - why bother? We only got one drink refill. So I wasn't exactly pleased. Cute interior design. I might go to HopCat again, but not this one. read more

I was sure to wait until the local hype had died down and have visited twice now. The first time we went for brunch. The food was good and about what you'd expect. The service was also fine. Nothing special, but nothing particularly wrong either. The second visit was for a Friday afternoon happy hour. This was less impressive. (HopCat - Why do you not have any Friday Happy Hour specials? Come on now.) When I wandered in, it took 5 minutes to get noticed by the seating host. This place was not busy at all. Instead, when the seating host finally noticed I existed, I realized she hadn't noticed because her back was to the door and she was talking to a friend. Not a great look. I can appreciate when things are slow, chatting with some coworkers, but at least be ready when you're needed. Otherwise? Service was slow. Slower than it should have been when the restaurant was only half-full (including the outdoor areas). The servers all seemed friendly and earnest enough, but also didn't seem that invested in it. This place could do more, but the overall vibe is- Meh. The great beer selection and menu are going to keep this going, but something's just not clicking for the atmosphere. read more

Had lunch with a friend today. Ricky was our server. What a gem! Polite, attentive and just an all around pleasant, personable young man. Service was spot on! The food was excellent. I've been to other HopCats... but by far, to date, this is my favorite! Lots of dining space and bathrooms were impeccably clean. The music was a bit loud but we were willing to overlook it because the food and service were excellent. Pickled chicken grilled sandwich and a grilled cheese/apple sandwich. Soooooo incredibly delicious with the basil, tomato soup and seasoned french fries. Can't wait to return... Would highly recommend this establishment... I'm sorry I didn't get pictures of our meals. We had a great time at HopCat and are so excited it opened close by. We came on the Monday on opening day and sat at the bar. The bartender had awesome recommendations and was very attentive. The drink menu is huge (several Hazy IPAs to choose from). My hubby had the Chipotle Melt and enjoyed the Cosmic Fries. The sandwich was flavorful but not too spicy. We came again with a large group and they were accommodating with awesome service (the restaurant was SO FULL too!). The supper club was good but needs a bit more flavor imo but overall would order again. The salad was large enough to share with someone else and I enjoyed dipping the chicken in the BBQ sauce which added a lot of flavor. I think they did a great job especially on a busy Friday evening. This is my favorite HopCat location in Michigan. The interior is spacious with fun stone, castle-like elements. This space used to belong to an Irish restaurant - much of its interior was kept when they converted it into a HopCat. The burgers and fries are always on point. The Cosmik fries (formerly crack fries) are a must-try here. The salads are also decent. This is a great location to hang out with a group of friends at. Service is quick and friendly. Oh my. We went with a bunch of friends to celebrate a birthday, and I think we would've had more fun, and probably better food and service in a jail cafeteria. We all did the value 15$ meal thing and other than the grilled cheese being inedible due to whatever sauce they disgraced it with, the food was mid. The drinks could've been flavored water and cost the equivalent of your first paycheck in high school. But none of this would be enough for me to come on here and write a review. I don't know if it was a bad day or something for our server, but he didn't even try. Every response was dry and short, like his ego was too big to treat a table of young adults with a wink of mutual respect. Coming to the end of the night, it only went downhill. After I thought we clearly explained how the bills should be split ( it really was NOT that confusing ) we got the bills with 2 of them wrong. No big deal right? Wrong. After we tried to nicely explain it to him that only two items needed to be switched, we got told it was our fault for switching our seats. I can't help but feel like if he even tried to talk to us, or make a normal interaction, he could've remembered us better than a number and seat. But I guess you don't have to try when you get a 20% gratuity fee already. If you want to spend too much money on bad food and get yelled at like you got caught sneaking out, you got your place! Also, one of our friends got the FREE brownie, didn't even order it by name and showed the code as they said on our table, and somehow it ended up on the bill. I had a nice time here. It is a newer location, and it is very nice. I like the layout and the outdoor seating. it is in a nice area where you do not need to worry about parking. The people working here seemed nice and helpful. I ordered from their Happy Hour menu. I got an M-43 which was pretty good and a meowgarita, which was pretty good. The Happy Hour prices were not bad. There was not too much on there as far as food goes, but I did try the fries. They tasted flavorful, crispy, and fresh. The dipping sauce was good. It was a fun place to meet friends. I did not really look at the normal menu and I do not know if they offer flights, which I like. I did see that they do have brunch, which I love, but I did not look at the brunch menu to see if they have any mimosa specials which I love. I will probably be back, maybe with friends. read more
