They aren't appetizers, they are tapas.
    Jessica R.

Right off the bat, my husband and I were confronted by the same incompetent employees at the hostess stand. On our first visit to Sidecar, they could only find one menu for our party of three. On this visit to Shift, they could only find one menu again, and we were there at the opening time of 5:00. They need to fix this because it makes a terrible first (and second) impression. Luckily, the rest of the evening went very well, although my husband and I were a bit confused when we read our one menu. Over 75% of the menu is labeled as appetizers. However, what is really going on is more of a tapas situation. We followed our excellent server's recommendations and tried the Lamb Lollipops, the Lobster Bruschetta, the Filet Sliders, and the Brussels. The lamb was very good, though two of the chops were a tad overcooked. They came on a pile of arugula, which was just dry arugula. It was too big a pile to be a garnish and too dry to eat. I would order it without next time. Also, the plate had a decorative design of balsamic glaze on it, but there wasn't enough of it to eat with the arugula or the lamb. A bit if the glaze, or another sauce, would have taken the lamb to the next level. I wouldn't order the lobster bruschetta again. It was ok, but if I didn't know there was lobster in there, I wouldn't have guessed it from taste. My husband and I really loved the sliders. The filet was cooked perfectly and the sauce was delicious. We also loved the Brussels sprouts. They were tender without being over cooked, and had lots of the crunchy leaves that I love so dearly.

Edamame, tuna, shrimp, and steak tips

We really enjoyed our time at Shift last night. Entering the restaurant was a little confusing at first as two restaurants share a hostess stand. We almost got sat at the slider place next door (looks good too!) Our waitress was very nice and quick to offer drinks and suggestions. I decided on The Time of my Life and my boyfriend got a beer. This restaurant doesn't have a beer menu, but they will run next door and get a beer from the other restaurant. My drink was delicious. Not too sweet and cucumber forward. I would definitely order it again. For food we chose the ahi tuna, spicy shrimp, edamame, and fillet steak tips. All the food was great, but we especially enjoyed the steak. It was served over arugula and goat cheese with a balsamic glaze. The streak was cooked perfectly and so was the tuna. We accidentally came during happy hour which meant all our food was half off. Per the menu, they run their happy hour every day from 5-7. What a wonderful deal! We will stop again next time we are in town.

Amazing service. Bartender made the drinks to perfection. Food portions are very filling. We love the ambience!

Loved the ambiance here with the dimly lit room and velvet backed booths. We came for happy hour on a Friday at 6pm and easily got a table. Drinks were good and food was delish! Can't go wrong with the happy hour specials they run. We had one hiccup where our waitress told us about the HH drinks and listed their "special of the month" drink in it... turns out it wasn't on happy hour like she stated (we wouldn't have ordered a $18 drink otherwise)... after bringing it to her attention, which she escalated to the manager, they reluctantly applied the happy hour discount. If it was our mistake I would have let it go, but the fact that she specifically said happy hour specials of 50% off espresso martini, the special of the month, and the color red, we felt it was only right for them to fix it. Wish it wasn't done begrudgingly by the manager as that made us leave not sure if we'd come back. I would have been back in a heart beat if not for that.

The cocktails are stunning, the food (whether brunch or dinner) is consistently memorable, and apparently every plate is so beautiful that I feel compelled to photograph it. Beyond the food, the service is always exceptional. The staff strikes that perfect balance of polished and warm, making every visit feel like a special occasion. And then there's the atmosphere. The abundant natural light, thoughtful seasonal décor, and the undeniable gravitas of a beautifully restored former bank create an experience that feels both elegant and welcoming. The Ledger is absolutely worthy of being a destination restaurant for celebrations and milestones. But the biggest compliment I can give it is this: we don't save it only for special occasions. Whenever we're nearby, we make a point to stop because the food, drinks, and experience are just that good and the seasonal specials never stay as long as you'd hope. And of course, the speakeasy downstairs is always the perfect end to the night.

The G.O.A.T., Fat-sar and truffles were all underwhelming for me. Their tomahawk steaks are huge, table next to us got two cut up table side. We opted to sit outside, the patio was very nice. They even had a heater set up since it was slightly chilly. We also tried the bulgogi beef sandwich, while the meat and other fillings were delicious, the bread was a bit thick for our liking. I tried the lavender cloud drink and it's probably my new favorite cocktail. My husband tried two whiskey based drinks (one not even the menu, that the bartender came up with) and he enjoyed both. There was no question, I would see my friend. We had selected Chicane earlier, eager to try the new restaurant in a familiar setting, by the train tracks on Starkweather. This location was formerly Station 885, a restaurant my friend and I visited years earlier, when a toy train ran along tracks around the perimeter, delighting her young daughter. We arrived early, scoring a great table with a view of the large bar, lounge, and stage. The restaurant is glamorous, with gorgeous lighting and attractive furnishings. Musicians entertained the eager and appreciative audience. There are so few places that provide this level of entertainment and hospitality. I had already previewed the menu and was anticipating the meal ahead. The duck sounded amazing and is almost always my first choice. However, the short ribs were tempting, as were the scallops in a coconut curry broth. I went with my first instinct, the duck, paired with a French Onion soup. The medium-rare duck breast was perfectly prepared; I liked the sweet potato puree and slaw accompaniments. Incidentally, the portion was huge. My friend enjoyed her braised short rib, which was on the 2-course supper menu, available before 6pm. For dessert, I went with the chocolate cube. Unfortunately, I didn't even see the banana parfait, which was mentioned in several of the reviews here. Oh, well, I was content. The dessert had a bold, intense chocolate flavor, which paired well with the ice cream's more subtle flavors. I also appreciated the different textures on the plate. Service was fantastic: professional and helpful. Unfortunately, my car died during the cold, and TripleA was unable to help, given the number of people/vehicles in a similar situation. The restaurant staff went above and beyond to find someone (the Executive Chef, who was in the middle of service) to provide a jump; I am so grateful for the gracious hospitality.

I completely appreciate that things get screwed up in the kitchen or service can be slow- it's how the restaurant responds that matters most to me. My dad, husband, brother in law, and sister all got burgers that were rare or medium rare. My dads and brother in laws were well done. My brother in laws literally was black. My husbands and sisters were overcooked but tolerable. My dad and brother in law sent theirs back to get them rare and it took over 25 minutes before mu dad just said he wanted his order cancelled. My dad was told that they were busy and that's why his burger took so long to get recooked- but the restaurant was half full. When one of the servers heard that my dad didn't want the burger anymore he told him "that's fine, I'll eat it." My brother in law got his to go and it was still burnt. They also told him that they wouldn't give him fries with his to go order because he already ate his fries. Not a big deal, but at this point why be a jerk and point it out? I had to ask our waiter for ranch 3 times before I finally asked another person for some. My son's pizza was also burnt. Super super disappointing.

It was slow on the restaurant side, likely because it was a Monday, but the bar side was full of what looked to be "regular" patrons. Our server was really nice and very patient with my fiend and I. I ended up getting the sliders with chips. When they arrived, I started eating the first one. The buns are soft and they were served hot. That first bite was great! As I ate more into the center (these are not small patties), I found it to be slightly medium-medium well. I didn't eat the very center and didn't worry about it. Once I bit into the second one, though, I found that it wasn't cooked nearly enough so I just ate the edges since I had already ate most of the first one. Despite having eaten most of it, the server and Manager made everything right. I'll be back to try some of their other menu items since they had quite a bit I wanted to try.

She's never taken a state test to live here, she just has a real license. When she couldn't answer, he refused her service and made a scene about it, loudly, in front of the whole bar. If he had doubts, the obvious move was to ask for a comparison ID or check it against another Washington license in our group. He had one right there. Instead he embarrassed a guest over a "test" that has nothing to do with ID verification, something his own industry provides actual training and guides for.
