Although we passed, we had time for a beer given draft selection looked enticing. They cook their Burgers medium well although our kind hostess offered to put in my request for medium. We ordered a Brazilian Wagyu (June special) and it came out medium-Yes! Wagyu beef was tasty. I asked for the Chimichurri on the side but unfortunately it wasn't in the bag when we got home. Also ordered the Wagyu Smash and Classic Cheeseburger which were enjoyed. For sides, Parmesan Truffle Fries were solid and the crispy Parmesan Truffle Brussel Leaves stole the show. The goat cheese added a very unique tang to the burger that was complemented by the cherry fig honey jam. The arugula was a nice touch that added another peppery flavor profile. Hopdoddy serves up a decent double smash burger. I ordered just a no nonsense burger with American cheese, lettuce and mayo. The buttery toasted bun worked well with the bun to meat ratio. The disappointment for me were the fries. Mine were cold and tasted like they were sitting around a while. I came in at 8:30 and maybe they already cleaned up the fryer and didn't want to mess it up. I'm a huge fan of the Parmesan truffle fries and green chile queso fries as well. Hopdoddy has a sports bar/relaxed restaurant feel to it that I really enjoy. We opted for the magic shroom burger and green chile queso fries, and two margs. The food actually came before the margs and we dove right in! As always, the burger was succulent and delicious. I love the goat cheese but it does make the burger a bit on the soggier side. The food came out as it was ready. On one hand, it was great because the food was still hot when it came out, but there was definitely a lag between each item being delivered to our table. Food to me is overpriced and it is very dirty, I came in on a Friday night around 9:30, there were tables with food still on them, and trash all over the ground. The bar was not clean at all We sat at table 51, by the women's restroom, and there were fruit flies flying around our table throughout our time there . The food was so so. Hopdoddy used to be my favorite burger place but my recent experiences have not been impressive. More than a month ago, my husband and I decided to have lunch here on a Saturday after the lunch rush. We arrived at around 2pm but it was still busy, which is normal for this location. We placed our order, got a table, waited for 20 minutes until my husband saw another party receiving their food despite coming in after us. We asked for updates on ours and was told it's up next. The server later delivered our food with 2 vouchers for free burgers. I decided to give Hopdoddy another try 2 weeks ago. The highlight of my Hopdoddy meal would always be the Parmesan Truffle fries - can't go wrong with crisp thin fries with amazing aioli sauce! But the parmesan fries were a little stale this time. Be warned the chairs and booths are very tall/high and if you have issues climbing in and out of tall chairs it may be difficult. The shareable hand cut fries come in large bowls with enough fries for 2-4 people, we tried the Traditional. They are of a smaller cut around the size of McDonalds fries. they were not crispy but not soggy. For $7.25 its a good item to share with the table. Loaded nacho Style Fries, $9.50: I really liked these. They are coated in a spice mixed that reminds you of a taco packet. They are covered in liquid cheese , sour cream and pico. Some people may be turned off by the heavy cummin and chili flavor, but I really enjoyed it and just about eat the entire bowl myself. Doddy Melt, $13.50: Overcooked trash. The patties were extra well done and the rye bread was toasted making the usually dry bread even more dry. By the time the sandwich made it to my table all the sauce and cheese had been absorbed by the meat and bread. A few bites in I ended up just tossing the top bread and cutting the burger up so I could dip it in ketchup. Great burger in theory, but the execution of the cooking was so off. honestly a burger like this can ruin a persons day. My partner and I visited on a Friday evening recently because we were craving burgers. We're in Rice Village often and pass by Hopdoddy, but this was our first time dining there. It's located among a collection of other restaurants and retail next to a large parking garage that is free for the first 2 hrs I believe. Each restaurant in this plaza, including Hopdoddy, has a large patio/outdoor area between the storefront and the sidewalk/street. Inside, the vibe was like a sports pub with a basketball game playing on tv and lots of conversation among the patrons. The process to order and get a table was kind of confusing because we weren't sure who was in line and which employee would assign us a table or seat us. In terms of the burgers and sides, the magic shroom was tasty, fairly juicy and flavorful with a nice pesto sauce. I'd order again, but it was on the smaller side. The standout was the hot honey brussel sprout leaves. There's just enough of a kick and no burnt flavor you sometimes get with roasted sprouts at other restaurants. We also enjoyed their condiments (the caffeinated bbq and chipotle ketchup). The fries were a big disappointment. It was really odd that they were both chewy and hard - inconsistently cooked and not very flavorful. We didn't really get any truffle or parmesan notes. Also on the negative side was the cleanliness of the restaurant. The tables and drink/condiment station weren't very clean.
