They took x-rays and told me I had gum disease and needed a deep cleaning, plus 2 to 3 crowns, plus a cavity filled. I had them do one crown then got more doubtful of the diagnosis (had no symptoms of gum disease or a cavity). I had them send my x-rays to another dentist in town who found no problems with my teeth and gave me a regular cleaning. All is well except that that the one crown Seabreeze did put on causes me to bite my cheek even months later and after two attempts to file it down some. Also, it took the dentist there several attempts to numb my tooth when prepping it for the crown and I still felt pain.

I still have outstanding work that needs to be completed, including a cleaning and crown replacement, and now one of the teeth they worked on is causing severe pain. At my initial appointment, they collected payment and told me they could complete all of the planned work in a single visit. Although I was surprised, I agreed. After completing work on two teeth, they instructed me to take a one-hour break. The break wasn't long enough to go home, and I couldn't eat because of the dental work, so I waited in my car. When I returned, they numbed me again, checked my mouth, and then asked if I could reschedule the rest of the treatment. When I tried to reschedule, they attempted to push the appointment out another two weeks despite the fact that I was already experiencing significant pain. I insisted on being seen sooner and was able to get an appointment the following week. At that appointment, they still weren't able to complete all the fillings as planned. Only part of the work was finished, requiring me to return for a third visit and miss even more work. While I was frustrated, I tried to be understanding. Now I've received an additional invoice for more than $500. When I contacted the office to resolve the issue, I was told that I had said my "card didn't work" and that I would call back. That never happened. What I actually said was that I didn't have any more time to spend waiting in the office because I needed to get back to work, and that they should call me to explain why there was an outstanding balance after they had already collected payment upfront. The billing process was confusing from the beginning. If staff are attempting to collect payment, they should be able to explain account balances and charges instead of requiring patients to wait for a treatment coordinator. They should also ensure that treatment estimates accurately reflect the work being performed and schedule patients appropriately if they cannot complete the procedures as promised. I am not someone who complains without offering solutions. This office could significantly improve the patient experience by implementing a few basic policies and procedures: Confirm before treatment whether all scheduled procedures can realistically be completed during the appointment. Provide explanations whenever treatment plans, timelines, or costs change especially at check in. Train front-desk and checkout staff to explain balances and payment discrepancies before requesting additional payment rather than having to wait for the treatment coordinator post appointment. Establish a policy that patients experiencing pain receive priority scheduling when follow-up treatment is needed, specifically when the dentist reschedules. Conduct a final billing review before collecting large upfront payments to reduce unexpected charges later. After three appointments, missed work, ongoing dental issues, severe pain, and now unexpected additional charges, I am extremely disappointed with my experience. Patients deserve transparency, accurate scheduling, and clear communication regarding both treatment and billing.

Going to a new dentist for pain is always a risk - if they claim dozens of cavities (and maybe a couple of root canals!), plumping up their bill into the thousands, how would I ever know the difference? That did not happen at all. Dr. Painter made no attempts to sell me anything extra, located the cavities and did the drilling necessary to fix them. I could tell at least one tooth was pretty bad - I had been having constant pain for a while, and he agreed that I probably narrowly avoided a root canal. Throughout my appointments Dr. Painter was friendly, cheerful, and personable, which really helped take my mind off my ridiculous fears of dental work. The only bad thing about the office is that Dr. Painter's good reputation seems to have gotten around, and his waiting room was pretty busy. And it doesn't help his waiting time that he is so incredibly careful with his patients - he re-did one tooth from scratch just because he wasn't 100% confident that the filling was perfect. As he said, he wanted it to be perfect. And since I went, it has been! I had been experiencing jaw and tooth pain on a stay to our family retreat in St. Augustine (…read morebummer right?) I waited to see if the pain would subside, but it continued, so I googled dentists and found Dr. Daniel Haeussner on Yelp. Called and talked to Kara, who was so kind a welcoming and they fit me in the same day to see what was going on. Everything from their lovely office, to their friendly staff, to their service was top notch. Kim, my dental assistant, quickly put me at ease and assured we'd address what the issue is as she took X-rays and made me comfortable. Dr. Haeussner came in and let me know everything looked good in the X-ray. He asked if I had been stressed lately (who hasn't!? But my job has been very stressful lately) and thought I may be grinding my teeth. He asked if I had also been experiencing headaches, which last week I had terrible headaches, so much so I got a Covid test just to be sure! He did a bite test, and even when I thought there is no way this pain is coming from grinding, he was sweet and did another one just to ease my concerns. He recommended a warm compress and anti-inflammatory. I could not believe this was causing this sort of pain, so I was so relieved to hear the news! I thought for sure I needed emergency filling or root canal. My dad is a dentist in Michigan and so this was my first experience outside of family. Dr. Haeussner assured me there were no major concerns and I appreciated his honest, sincere compassion with the situation. Funny enough, we laughed how my dad is also named Daniel, and I saw the Dr. Dan of St. Augustine. Anyone who is looking for a dentist, look no further! Dr. Trunk is super friendly but also great at what she does. She's also realistic - she encourages strong oral hygiene but doesn't talk to you like a lot of other dentists can (read: condescendingly). She just chats with you. The hygienists are also quick and professional and clearly enjoy what they do. I also had a more major procedure done (root canal and crown due to a mistake from a previous dentist) and that was as pleasant as could be. They are professional and do great work and I have had no issues with the crown since they put it in nearly two years ago.

Some research says it is great for adults, other research says it is all about the money. Dental Doctors has changed a lot in the past few years. Maybe it is time to make a switch. It appears their business is not nearly as busy as it once was. These are my views and I am not a doctor or dentist. As always, buyer beware.
