Food was excellent, but place was crowded and neither the seating nor the service were ideal. Had several different apps including some of the best onion rings I have ever had, fried whitefish, BBQ Burger, pretzels, mozzarella sticks and boneless wings. Service could have been better and staff a little friendlier, but nothing was terrible. Would definitely go back to try other menu items. read more

First time visitor to Hoppies on vacation this summer. Took our boat from Pickerel Lake over late in the day which was almost a mistake as it took a solid 1.5+ hours to get there(lock, bridge and no wake). We let the server know we were on a time crunch to make it back and all I can say is the service was awesome. We had drinks and food right away and they were crowded. I think they moved us to the front which was so nice. Food was classic good bar food, we all really liked what we got (Burgers, Fish and Chips, Wet burrito). We made it back through the lock right before 10pm so the rapid service saved us. Great overall experience! read more

What can I say - one of the oldest consistent places left in the area. Always get a decent meal and a cold beer. Get's a little crazy in the summer but what wouldn't, being the only restaurant on the water in the area. Come by boat if you can - just a entire experience in itself. Food is consistent and well prepared. Ranges from Burgers and fries to Fish and Steak. Handle large groups very well. Service is good except strange rules about the patio - can bring your drinks but never food. Would be a great place to add seating when it gets crazy busy. Come check it out! read more

I'm giving this such a bad review because of the unbelievably insulting and rude service we received. I was absolutely appalled!!!! Our servers name was Brandy and we have never been so insulted when ordering a drink. For starters, my husband ordered a Bud Light and she insulted him by saying it was a horrible beer. Well....come to find out, she said she had some stupid ex-boyfriend that worked for Budweiser, so she found it necessary to insult anyone who ordered their product. I myself am in the service industry, and the first rule in the industry is to not insult anything anyone is ordering, or make any comments! DUH!!! so like I said...I'm in the industry myself, and well....my husband works for BUDWEISER!!!! She made a BIG mistake. She also doesn't know how deep his roots are with Budweiser. I'll leave that at that. I made it sound like I was joking, but I told her to her face "there goes your tip!" After she saw our reaction, she asked if we had ties to Budweiser. I said "yes!!! That pays our bills!!!!" What a complete idiot!!! I also said out loud that that was the 2nd time on our recent trip that we have been insulted by a server for our choice of beverage. Absolutely unbelievable!!! I ordered a vodka/soda with Titos vodka. Well...she took about 20 mins to bring my second drink and acted like they had to go find some Titos. Yeah right...she just forgot and couldn't be honest enough to admit it. Just the icing on the cake as to why I didn't tip her. As far as the food, the food was great! I had no complaints. My husband and I both had burgers, and my relatives had some of the Mexican items and a fish sandwich. Everybody liked the food. As far as Brandy the server is concerned, we also gave her a bumper sticker from our home town to hang up, and I can bet my life savings that it won't be put up. Really sad because that would have meant a lot to us. She needs to learn to put her personal issues aside in the work place and keep her loud & opinionated mouth to herself. She's screwing herself over, and the restaurant itself. I'd fire her in a heartbeat if I owned the place! She's a cancer to the establishment, and doesn't know the first thing about even decent service. It's a shame because this is a pretty neat place. They just need to pay more attention to the details of their service. If we had even decent service, I probably would have given it 4 stars. I'm giving it 2 stars instead of 1 because of the food. read more

I recently visited Michigan. And search the internet for places to eat where I was staying I came across Hoppe's Tavern. I was staying in Indian River Michigan and thought I would try it this place out. Took awhile to find the place because of detour signs, but finally found it. It was well worth the roundabout way to get there. The food was fabulous. The drinks were exceptional. The service was great. I love love love hoppies! It's in the middle of nowhere, but completely worth the drive. Fish fry Friday's are amazing (and I love the terryaki white fish). They serve the best tex-mex in the area (not that there's much competition). Killer burgers and fries. Prices are cheap, atmosphere is bar-like and food is phenomenal. If you're very daring, you can also get there by boat (they've got a dock out front) but it's at the empty end of Burt Lake, so it can be quite a trip. Great if you're out for a ride and need a destination. read more

Saw our waitress twice during the 70 minutes we were there and the second time was after 35 minutes of waiting and only after prompting did she come take our order. Waited another 35 minutes with no sign of the waitress despite checking in with the manager twice. Ended up leaving when they lied to us about the readiness of our order. Never again. read more

I have an update on Hoppie's...just ate there over Memorial Day weekend and they are no longer serving ice cream cones out the side window. Kind of a bummer if you ask me. Instead though, they are serving take-out pizza from that windown from 4-9pm. Haven't tried it yet, but will post another update after we do later this summer. read more

I used to love going to Hoppies, but the last time I was there, the food was not that great. They advertise Mexican food as their specialty. But what you get is ground beef on nacho chips. It's something you could make at home. Nothing special. I was sad to see the quality drop. read more

While the atmosphere and food are very satisfying for a lake restaurant, the service my family received made it an awkward dining experience. We arrived to a nearly empty restaurant for a late lunch, yet the server made us feel like we were imposing on her throughout the meal. Maybe they were short-staffed; she never said (which would have eased our pain). We were polite and wanted to relax, but the service made us want to finish and get out pronto. Come by land, air, or sea. Well I'm actually not to sure about the air part, but you can park a boat near here in the summer or drive your snowmobiles here in the winter. They have a good bar and a nice selection of food. I recommend the Chocolate Quesadilla for dessert! read more

we have visited Hoppies for years while vacationing, used to love this place, not so much anymore. same menu, quality of food gets worse every year. taco salad tasted like a loose meat sandwich, granddaughters chicken tenders, inedible to say the least, tasted like they came from a microwave TV dinner, atmosphere is incredible, but come on guys, get it together, it's almost as if your so busy you don't even care. So many good restaurants opening up in the area that we'll have to retire this place. read more
