I scheduled my first ride to pick up my child after a sports practice at school. The driver showed up 20 minutes late and couldn't find the school. When she finally arrived, she had her mother sitting in the passenger seat. I called the "safe ride support" line and was put on hold for 15 minutes. When I was finally connected, I reached a call center where the representatives were clearly reading from a script and struggled to understand both my English and the issue itself. What if my emergency had been something more serious than an unvetted passenger? A 15-minute wait is completely unacceptable. I don't believe this company vets its drivers as thoroughly as it claims. They say they care about drivers, but their actions show otherwise: offering low pay for longer rides despite soaring gas prices, reducing call center hours, making it very difficult to reach someone to get pay or ride issues resolved, and corporate employees who regularly over promise and under deliver. During the recent school year, I experienced many unreturned calls and emails, spent hours of unpaid time correcting pay errors, received incorrect information from corporate employees resulting in the need to miss shifts and spend unpaid time getting issues resolved, had ride details changing significantly with no advanced notification, and through it all was regularly reminded that HopSkipDrive only cares about its own profits. Our first experience with this company was a few days ago (in St. Louis county). I met the driver and began to introduce myself and got 4 words in and she began speaking to me with an extremely hostile tone, yelling that she doesn't know me and who and I talking about. I knew this was the right person because her car and face matched the picture and description the app sent me, and she had the orange sticker in her car window. I told her oh, I thought you are our HopSkipDrive driver because I see the orange sticker and the car, aren't you? And she began yelling at me again. My four year old got scared and said No Mommy!! No mean lady!!! And started to cry. I told her he wasn't going anywhere with her and walked away to when she walked toward me and continued to yell that she didn't know me and I didn't say a name. I hadn't even had time to finish my initial sentence and introduce myself, much less confirm names or ask which side to install the car seat on for her. I walked my child to my car and she said, "Crazy bitch!!" And went in my daycare (even though I told her the ride was cancelled so she had no need to enter. This same driver continued on the route to pick up the other child who was set to ride with mine. When I arrived at the location (making me have to last minute skip my scheduled appointment since I now had to drive), the second child had still not been dropped off 20 minutes after the scheduled time the app had given us. I left and came back to get my child after, and the therapist who received the second child informed me that she had missed half the appt due to the driver being late and that upon arrival the driver was "hostile and verbally aggressive" with the therapist as well. I have tried 2 times to file a complaint by calling the phone number for this business. The first time the agent told me he would escalate my call and someone would call me back. This did not occur. I called back the next day and spoke to a different agent who told me there was no call escalation on my account and that she would do so, and someone would call me back for my report. It has now been another day, and still no one has called. At this time I do not feel my child is safe using this service and I also do not have faith in the business itself for following up or caring about the safety of the children since I have not yet received a call or follow up. I NEVER TOUCHED A CHILD! In their email they "determined that your conduct breached the Terms of Use." and made my termination permanent. Retaliation or coincidence? No report was made to law enforcement. No response to my replied emails for my offers of a lie detector test and dash cam recordings with daily backups. I see a lot of 5 stars from drivers which leads me to believe they are being asked, or possibly incentivized, to post. Not seeing a ton of parent experiences here. I used to use HopSkipDrive religiously and they were pretty reliable. Prior to the pandemic, I started to have trouble getting rides booked. I am trying to use them again and am feeling that same nervousness of not having the ride confirmed in time. When I call, I'm on hold for over 30 minutes (despite a recording saying someone will be with me in one minute) hung up on, or I don't receive a call back when I leave a message. I don't have a lot of faith in them at the moment. I know it's difficult to find reliable drivers so I don't want to be too hard on HSD. However, be transparent about the challenges so that parents aren't placed in a difficult position to scramble and find alternative solutions. Finally, what used to be female only drivers, now they have both male and female. I have my thoughts about this but if you're going to do this, go the extra step of matching a females driver with a female passenger. Or, give parents a place to mark their preference. I don't feel comfortable with my daughter being placed with a male. She mine as well take an Uber. I realize they have more of a vetting process than Uber but still. read more

PHX drivers hate-on cars that drive the speed limit, accelerate slowly, do slow-turns and come to a stop slowly. HopSkipDirve expects all its drivers to do each of these things VERY SLOWLY. If not, you get ding'ed on your weekly score-card, with the threat of being removed as a driver from their platform. If you do your best to abide by the absurdly restrictive drive parameters that HSD expects, you'll be cut-off and tailgated by those other drivers who don't care if you have a kid in your car. All they care about is you getting out of the way. For the low-pay-per-ride and the aggressive driving that occurs in Phoenix, it's not safe as a driver, and not safe for the kid you are trying to transport. I don't want to take the responsibility of transporting a kid who isn't mine, not because I drive unsafely, but because other drivers in Phoenix are so crazy. My kiddo is Autistic, and a driver by the name of Arlen B picked my child up and bugged me about bringing him out BEFORE his scheduled pick up time I went ahead and obliged. Because of my uneasiness, I have my child take his iPad (cellular) and we stay on FaceTime the entire time. Why did she get him to school force him out, took his seatbelt off and left him at the school when no one was there?!
