Patient beware! I had cataract surgery at the Huntersville facility and the results were dismal. A botched procedure! My near term vision was satisfactory without corrective lenses. I now require bifocals following the 'surgery' and cannot read script without eyeglasses. A puppy mill ! Please avoid this facility for your well being. read more

Great Caring Service. Had a vision check and new glasses back in January but after years so rather stable vision, my vision has declined significantly over the past nine months because of Cataracts.Because Dr. Krug is only at the Lake Norman Office one day a month, they worked me in for today. My experience with Dr. Krug goes back over 10 years. I had an optometrist who had incorrectly diagnosed me with low pressure glaucoma. After she transferred to Connecticut, I was referred to Dr. Krug who correctly diagnosed the problem and no problems over the years and have had nothing but great care. Only problem I have with this Horizon Eye Care is that as I mentioned above, he is only at this location once a month otherwise you end up with a long drive to Cotswold in Charlotte. Still for the care you get, I am willing to undergo the inconvenience. Still I am looking a surgery in the next couple of months and I can't thing of a Dr. I would or could trust more in for this proceedure. , read more

All Horizon Eye Care locations I've been to (three) have abhorrent wait times. Not sure why I keep coming here.

The front desk ladies are absolutely miserable and have zero soft skills. They're rude, on their phones and overall disrespectful. Similar to a Bojangles on a Friday night. The actual medical professionals are great, which is the only reason I've come back. The parking situation is also typically difficult, with limited spaces and some spaces being extremely narrow. Don't try parking in the adjacent lot, as the signs indicate you will get towed. read more

Our appointment was at 3:50 here it is 4:55 and my husband still hasn't seen a doctor. This is our second appointment ( we drove 45 minutes) and each time we were welcomed by a sign that says "Dr. XXX" is running 45 minutes behind. Will definitely seek a new doctor after this visit. read more

The doctors and the actual care received are good. The reason for this rating is the utter disregard that the company has for its patients' time. They have overbooked to the point that a 15 -30 minute appointment today took 2 hours of waiting, and the waiting area was packed. I saw the doctor for, at best, 5 minutes. If I had been 15 minutes late for my scheduled time, I would have been required to reschedule, yet they find it acceptable to also require me to take additional time off of work to accommodate their system. Well, this office is just as slow as the one in Charlotte. Front desk is in absolutely no hurry to get you checked in and the same w check out. Everyone tells u to wait just a minute. My appointment was at 810! They open at 800!! What's the issue?? I wasn't called back until 830 and doctor didn't see me until 850! It was a follow-up for crying out loud and the appointment lasted all of 5 minutes with the doctor. It took longer to dilate my eye!!!! I hate going here! I gave two stars for the assistant that dilated my eyes and did my pressures. This place really needs to figure out what time management means and respect their patients' time as well. read more

My mother has been a patient for 6 years. We have waited 1,5 hours for a appointment before but today takes the cake. We were in the waiting room for over 2 hours and still has not seen the doctor with 2 people ahead of her. My mother is 96 years old was having try trouble sitting long time. I love the Doctors here. However with that being said the time one spends here is ridicilious. I had a 10:30am appointment. I did not get out of there until after 12 noon. Once the eye exam is done they move you to another area for more testing. You sit with others who are waiting for their name to be called. They sometimes call names in the front lobby even though you are in the back. Its like being in a production line where you move from station to station for testing. Parking is horrible too. Its hard to find a parking space. The first time I came here parking was great. Lot was not crowded at all. The last few times I came it was packed. read more

I was astonished to learn I had Fuch's Dystrophy, which is a thickening of the cornea, which leads to blindness. I was referred to Dr. Joseph Biber by Dr. Reza Mozayeni and was told he is the best. I also received a glowing recommendation for Dr. Biber from a retired ophthalmologist, who specialized in corneal transplants. I had a DMEK procedure performed on my right eye on by Dr. Biber. This is a partial-thickness cornea transplant procedure. I also received a cataract lens at that time. My vision has remarkably improved, and I am no longer concerned I will go blind. I also no longer require a contact lens in my right eye. I only need over the counter reading glasses to read small print. I cannot thank Dr. Biber and his office enough for the medical care I have received. He and his staff are very courteous, professional, attentive, and always answer all of my questions thoroughly. I will be scheduling the same surgery for my left eye and look forward to the day when I only require reading glasses to read and have almost the same vision I had most of my life, which was 20/20. Regarding the Cotswold Location: The eye care from the doctor was great but the billing department and policies need to be reorganized. I went in to have them check my eyes as they were itchy AND to have my yearly exam at the same time. It seems they charge $318 to check out itchy eyes and code it as "medical". So it goes to medical insurance and they pay nothing because of the way Horizon coded it. But, BCBS says they would pay it if Horizon would change the code. Nope, Horizon will not change the code. So, I go to my eye insurance, and they will pay $175 of the $318 ... IF Horizon would change the code. Nope, Horizon will not change the code. Because of Horizon's unwillingness to modify their billing codes, I'm not able to use VSP Eye Insurance or BCBS medical insurance...to check out my itchy eyes. Nice! read more

I had my annual exam today. This was the worst visit I've ever had in all my years being a patient. I have always had issue with the wait times. And the rush exam i was given, I just dealt and moved on. But today was it for me. Dr. Rouse is very arrogant, Rude and beside manner very underwhelming. During exam he is ruff and not patient he constantly barking orders with a bright light in my eyes telling me to look left look right. This is not comfortable or easy. Then I tried to tell him. I was seen twice over the summer for two issues that required medication. He argues with me and says those were eye drops Not medication. I said i know this that was not what i was talking about. His assistant is the one who is giving info. She finally finds it. And he blows it off oh that was for something else. eye lid problem. it still required . The medication and not eye drops he mentioned .he then proceeds to tell i have some leakage behind the eye. Talking very condescending to me. I told him i never heard you tell me this .he laughed at me like I'm stupid. I have 35 years in medical field I understand medical terms well. This is some delicate procedure. And he wants to see-me in two weeks. Do you really think i would let you anywhere near my eyes ever again after this visit. Who is the stupid one here?. read more

Was referred there by my doctor. They did not even read the referral and do what my ordering doctor had requested. Billed me for services not performed. Did not even dilate my eyes. Do not see Dr Benjamin Kramer. He had no customer service skills, never read the referral. Waved prisms over my eyes and charged me over $300. I wrote a letter asking for an explanation and 6 weeks later all I have received was a 2nd bill. Billing department went over what was on the bill with me. I was billed for tests he never performed. They were able to get me in on the same day when I tried to order glasses with my rx from another business, only to find it was expired (even though it was less than two years old). their opticians are great, but there's usually only one there, and their lunch break schedule is kind of a pain (12-1 everyday). read more

Do not go here if your doctor is Dr. Rouse. He is rude, arrogant, has no beside manner, and doesn't listen to your concerns. He kept me on the hook getting treatment that wasn't beneficial. Wait times can be terrible and I'm convinced they do everything possible to collect insurance funds. In the past they have not informed me of an eye check-up being $300 dollars. I did however go back for another eye exam for glasses and they tried to force me to see him again and I refused. Especially since I'm convinced his treatment made me go blind in one of my eyes faster. They asked me if I was displeased with there service why was I there and I told them they are the closest and know my history. They also informed me this time you can be charged a refraction fee and don't know if it will need to be done until the exam and you have to pay upfront. Pretty sure they had to start informing people of this charge because they weren't notifying people in the past and it was hard to collect but if it's on a signed document they could try to make sure it's paid. I however have to say I had a great experience with my eye doctor Dr.Beaupre. He tried to help with my issue and respected I had concerns with their office. He was open, helpful, and honest and recommended I may need an exam done by a retina specialist which would be Dr. Rouse but he understood my issue with this provider and just nicely told me to try and get it taken care of by a place I'm more comfortable. His experience with me is how you should be treated by a doctor. I've heard other people say nice things about docs at this location (not dr. Rouse) so this is just my opinion on the office conduct and it may be beneficial for you to be seen here. This is just my personal experience. read more

If I could give this place negative stars I would. Brought my 4 week old preemies here last week. The wait with an appointment was over a hour. They dilated the eyes on both my twins and told me to keep them covered in their car seats for 3 hours so their eyes were protected. Imagine my surprise when getting home and feeding my boy twin, that his left eye was swollen. Called and was told it could be allergies. Then his eye started oozing pus the next day. According to the ER he has a bacterial infection from uncleaned hands or equipment from his visit. No, other kids in the house, and that was his first outing since leaving the NICU. Inconvenient hours if you have a job; and if you try to use your Lunch hour to hold an appointment, good luck! You will be sitting in waiting area for an hour even before seeing DR! Both times I have come it was within an at 8 or 9AM, so why the hold up? Even if you say you need to leave by a certain time, or if they say all Dr's are running on time. It is so frustrating! Selection of frames is mediocare, the charge for a "contact lense" exam is ridiculous. I've NEVER heard of it before moving to this area and becoming a patient of Horizan. If possible skip this franchise, find a more personal and timely practice. read more

My Horizon Adventure with Dr. Joseph Biber: Actually I would have given more stars if available. First you should know that I've had glasses since I was five years old. Additionally, I grew up very nearsighted... -5.75 and -6.25 were probably the readings without corrected lenses of some sort. Now, I'm in my late 60's. Lasik was done on my eyes in 2003 and 2004 in San Antonio, Texas. The results were not good and actually turned me into a farsighted person with a +1.50 and +1.25 after that surgery healed. When arriving in Asheville, NC in 2004, my primary care eye doctor, Andy Champion, did a great job in restoring my pre Lasik vision to 20/20 with hard contact lens. We both looked forward to the time that cataract surgery would be needed to see if a new intraocular lens implant with a Toric lens could be used to deal with the astigmatism. Late in 2013, I was referred to an Asheville cataract surgeon and he did the left eye implant but didn't use a Toric lens. Several weeks later he offered to do a second operation because my vision out of the eye was not good. In early 2014, he removed the first lens and replaced it with a Toric lens. I knew as soon as the shield came off the next day that I was seeing more clearly out of that eye than ever before even with corrective lenses. In short time that eye came into focus with a very nice 20/25. Most people receive their "other" cataract eye surgery a few weeks later but my local cataract surgeon delayed my right eye surgery for three years. Late last December, he finally did the surgery on my right eye. Once again, he placed the "normal" cataract lens into eye and once again, the vision failed. This time was worse because it was almost a monovison effect and I was off balance and occasionally becoming nauseated. The surgeon did not want to redo the right eye because and I quote: "You are three years older". Okay, I get it. I'm 69 now so just live with what you've got and be quiet about it. Fast forward a few days after that last consultation with the Asheville surgeon. My primary care eye doctor, Andy Champion, knew my disappointment was behemoth after waiting 14 years to have a chance for great vision with the cataract intraocular lens implants. Dr. Champion did some research. A Google search four different ways continued to turn up one name above all others... Dr. Biber's name. His experience level in lasik, cataract, intraocular lens implants, and corneal transplants leaps off the page. Dr. Biber agreed to have a consultation with me in early March. He was thorough in his exam looking at both of my eyes. He had read my file sent over by Dr. Champion. He offered three solutions with the best one, as far as I was concerned, being the removal of the lens that had been inserted eight week earlier replacing it with a Toric Lens just like my left eye had ultimately received in early 2014. Surgery was scheduled for April 25 and would be done at the Novant Outpatient Center in Charlotte (formerly the Presbyterian Hospital). I made a couple of pre op visits...two to Huntersville Horizon Eye Center where the staff was kind, patient and thorough. They always refracted both eyes and I know it was to make certain that this time, the prescription and fit was going to be as good as Dr. Biber could possibly make it. The Surgery Center in Charlotte was perfect. I had not one nervous bone in my body after meeting the nursing staff. Dr. Biber greeted me briefly as warm blankets were available to keep me comfortable while waiting to go the OR. The next morning a follow up with Dr. Biber was at the Charlotte Horizon Eye Center just a few blocks from the Surgery Center. I spent the night of surgery at the Hilton close by. A friend drove me back and forth. A few weeks later, I had a post op visit with Dr. Biber and he was encouraging but neither of us probably expected the end results. Four weeks from surgery just occurred this week. My local primary care eye doctor, Dr. Patti Champion, (Dr. Andy Champion has now retired from practice) did the refraction. She was smiling from ear to ear. I'm a clear 20/20 and actually read a couple off the 20/15 line. The right eye that Dr. Biber operated on is now the BEST of the two eyes. The struggle with trying to have good vision without glasses or contact lens is over. All I need is a pair of readers now. Piano music doesn't even require that. I'm no longer having glasses fall off my face when showing my Great Dane, Jack. My life is changed because of the skill of this man. Everything about his demeanor, his experience, his kindness is as clear as the vision he has provided me and my gratitude to Dr. Biber is bottomless. He and his staff at the Horizon Eye offices and at Novant Surgery have my deep appreciation. Five stars just isn't enough. Good luck to everyone with their eye surgeries. Sherice & Dr Bell are life savers! I went to numerous doctors and no one knew what was wrong with my eye. They found it was just a random inflammation and prescribed me steroid drops. My insurance wouldn't cover the drops which were $237. Sherice found 2 sample bottles of the steroid drops at their Cotswald location and I picked them up for free! There were more than enough drops to get me through the week that I needed them saving me tons of money. My eye is now all clear and doesn't hurt anymore, I highly recommend Dr Bell!! read more

This place is horrible. I am giving 2 stars only because Dr. Biber performed surgery on my right eye and everything went well. No problem with doctor's skill/talent. The major problem with this place is the way they schedule and their people skill in general. Since my surgery 4 years ago, I have to go see Dr. Biber every 6 months for follow up. I've tried many different schedule of the day, it doesn't matter the first appointment in the morning or the first appointment after lunch, still over 2 hours wait before you see your doctor. I had the first appointment of the day once and walked out without seeing doctor at 10:45 AM because i have to be at my son's school. my appointment for today is 12:50 PM, got there around 12:30 PM. Front desk checked in confirmed for me that I am the first appointment after lunch so my doctor will see me first. A nurse check my eye pressure, put some eye drop in my eyes and put me in a room to wait for Dr. Biber. 1:50PM, still waiting in the room, then I heard Dr. Biber went to the room next door, at that point, I was totally annoyed, popped the door open, the nurse at the station looked at me and i told her I needed some fresh air and told her I thought I was the first patient after lunch and she said "you are!" I told her "then why is the doctor in the next room seeing another patient?" she then said "oh i didn't know", at that point , the Asian nurse casually said I switched the light (meaning she decided dr. Bible should go to that room first), I understand and wouldn't mind for urgent patient or elderly patient, even than they should have come told me about changing my schedule. Super rude! That Asian nurse is always so arrogant (I am Asian myself so i have nothing against Asian or any other race, just so that you know who she is if you've been there.) At the check out, the patient who was seen before me was standing in front of me, they were neither elderly or looked in anyway in emergency situation (not their fault that there were seen first) just stating that Asian nurse switched for the doctor to see them first for no reason other than, that room was her primary room (yes, all these nurses have their room where they go in with Dr. Biber). Also, knowing their first appointment is 12:50 PM and for the doctor to come see patient at 1:50 PM is also unacceptable. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would!! My son was born premature and saw Dr. Kramer in the hospital. They scheduled for us to be seen at this location which was over two hours away from home. I have a four year old son as well. I called and told the staff that I wanted to send his records to my local eye doctor since it was closer. They said "okay" and I thought it was the end of it.. please tell me why I got a letter in the mail threatening To call CHILD SERVICES on me if they didn't hear back from me by the end of the week!! like what?! I literally told them I was switching to a local eye doctor and they even sent the records. Needless to say, I was pissed. To make matters worse, my son had already been seen twice at the new eye doctor. I took him to every appointment on time and his eyes checked out fine. They even said Horizon Eye called them and said they were going to call Child services on me and the doctor at our local place, said what on Earth for?! On my lat visit with Dr. Kramer I explained that I was having neck issues and thought it might be related to constantly raising my head at the computer to use the lower part of my progressives to see. After my exam, he suggested writing me a prescription for computer glasses. I ordered a pair and have been using them for several weeks now and my neck is much better! read more

I have had nothing but a great experience with Dr. Kramer and the staff at Horizon Eye Care. The staff at the office in Huntersville specifically was very courteous and professional from the time I made the appointment to the time I checked out. We were seen on time, which is very appreciated when you have an anxious toddler with you awaiting in the lobby! I highly recommend Dr. Kramer. Not only he was great with my 2 year old son and helped him feel very comfortable throughout his very first eye exam, but he also consistently answered all my questions.
