We came to Horizons at Woodcliff to celebrate being just one year away from our wedding. Overall, we had a nice experience, but there were a few things that kept it from being a five-star visit. I was honestly surprised at how empty the restaurant was for a Saturday evening in June. We were seated right away, which was great, but despite requesting a table with a view, we were seated in the middle of the dining room instead of near a window. Since the restaurant was practically empty, that was a little disappointing. There was also live music, which was nice, but we were seated right next to it, making conversation a bit difficult. Again, with so many open tables, I wish we had been seated a little farther away. Our server was very friendly and attentive. The drinks were great overall, although there was a small mix-up with my brother's Old Fashioned--it came with crushed ice instead of up as requested. For dinner, we ordered two chicken entrées and two scallop entrées. The scallops were cooked perfectly and were definitely the standout entrée. Unfortunately, the chicken was a bit dry, especially considering the price. One thing I have to mention is the salt bread. It isn't complimentary, but it is absolutely worth ordering. It was hands down my favorite thing we ate and worth every penny. The view is truly unbeatable and is the main reason to dine here. Watching the sunset over the valley is absolutely beautiful and creates a wonderful atmosphere. Just be prepared for a higher bill than you might expect for the overall dining experience. We just had an spectacular dinner at Horizons to celebrate our son's graduation! From the moment we entered the restaurant everyone was kind, welcoming and so accommodating!! We had the salt bread, flatbread andcrab cakes for appetizer that we shared, all excellent. I had the pork chop and all I can say is WOW! And the desserts were phenomenal! The best part? The service! Aga, our waitress, was warm and friendly and helped us pick the perfect dishes, Christy and Andy made us delicious cocktails and Valentin and Maddie made sure our cups were always full. My only negative about the whole experience is that we haven't been here sooner!! Can't wait to be back!!! read more

I've not eaten here but my husband and I have visited for cocktails a couple times for an overnight getaway. The bar is spacious and the espresso martinis delicious. We are staying overnight at the hotel and decided to sit at the bar, watch the football game while having a drink and eat something. The bartender was great! Very friendly and helpful. I had a cocktail with burbon ( AMAZING), and my husband had local IPA ( smelled really good, I didn't taste it). We ordered some appetizers and they were absolutely delicious. Local bread with butter and something like marmalade( very unique taste!), ceaser salad, and charcuterie, buffalo wings-all presented beautifully on the plates and delicious! They also had live jazz music, really nice and cozy atmosphere. This was delicious from beginning to end. The giant pretzel was piping hot, soft, and buttery, with tasty dipping sauces. The soup and sandwich were great - in particular, the soup was incredibly rich and flavorful. The Medovik for dessert was WONDERFUL. Great views and good service. Appetizers.,.pork belly and octopus were both good. Octopus was not chewy! Focaccia bread...now made in house...( Vs previously outsourced) was okay.. they made it sound phenomenal... I would not order this again. It was more bland than flavorful. We both had the swordfish special...and it was cooked appropriately...but flavor was bland... I wish it was seasoned vs " apply your own sauce". Again it was "okay".. but for the cost... Meh. Desserts of flour less chocolate cake and lemon raspberry dessert both were very different... chocolate was thick and rich... Lemon dessert was really light. We enjoyed a 90th birthday celebration with four generations at Horizons, and the entire experience was delightful. All children, spouses, grandkids, and great-grandkids were present, and everyone had a great time. The staff was outstanding in pre-planning and day-of, with delicious food for a brunch for twelve. The dining room is comfortable and not too noisy, so conversation could be enjoyed, for ages 10 through 90! I flew in from California for a few days staying in the area. Walking into Horizons late evening to grab a few appetizers was more than I expected. I travel alot and frequent many restaurants. Staff met me with welcoming conversations and food suggestions. The food was very delicious - so fresh and flavored! I remained at the bar area to unwind and could easily sense that the atmosphere was one of personal service. The bar area was full but yet I was made to feel special by the staff. The following morning the breakfast was very good, again freshly made and delicious. I enjoyed a perfectly prepared rack of lamb, and my three companions all ordered fish dishes that elicited rave reviews. As you might expect, the wine list is well populated, if a bit pricey, but we selected a Franciscan Magnificat cab that was reasonably priced and totally satisfying. Two companions ordered cocktails--an old fashioned and a gin martini--and both were exceptionally well prepared. To cap off our experience, we summoned two orders of Ukrainian honey cake for the four of us, and I can't remember enjoying a dessert so much. I usually go around the holidays as they have special meals there. Great service with a smile. They easily pass the water test. Ate Thanksgiving dinner without having to do a bunch of cooking and it was buffet style so super stuffed. The space is nice. The view is nice. That's where the positives end. In a nearly empty restaurant, we waited 35 minutes for breakfast. The French toast was serviceable (weird we had to ask for syrup though). But the hangover dish was terrible. I know chorizo is an oily meat but this dish was swimming in oil. The hollandaise was clearly broken; it was lumpy--looked like soft scrambled eggs. The fried onions (I think??) were obliterated. The hash was forgettable. The eggs were poached properly--the only redeeming quality of a nearly inedible dish. Definitely skip this spot when you stay here. Gotta be much better local options for breakfast. read more

NO REDEEMING QUALITIES, FIND SOMEWHERE ELSE. My family had Mother's Day brunch here two weeks ago. Getting the reservation took 4 phone calls and eventually going in person to confirm. $60 per person did not get us coffee served to the table, we were instructed to head to the lobby where we could put our own coffee in paper to-go cups. At the BRUNCH buffet, there were no pancakes, waffles or French toast. The food that was there had been sitting out for hours. For dessert, they served mouthwash sized cups of mousse and what appeared to be Dunkin' Donuts. At the end they didn't provide an itemized bill so they overcharged by 2 adults and then it took two weeks and 5 phone calls to get the funds returned. Terrible food Terrible service read more

The wait staff was lovely and attentive as was the bartender. We had an early table, and were seated 20 mins later... undoubtably because they didn't have the staff to open. Given the economy, etc., totally get that. Several dishes and beverages were unavailable. So far... okay. The pork was overdone to the point of needing a steak knife to attack it. The roasted veggies in the soba noodle entree were mushy. But the biggest sin of them all was the crime brûlée (not a typo). It was liquid. The sugar on the top was likely carmelized the night before and had become a soggy wet mess. Will return at some point in hopes this was due to an early table time and perhaps an inexperience person in the kitchen. Here's hoping next time is more than a nice view. read more

I stayed here for an entire week and ate here every morning and night which is a testament to how amazing the food and service is. The staff is ao friendly and accommodating. I have been fortunate to be treated to the amazing brunch buffet at Horizons restaurant at Woodcliff three times in my life, and each time it has been fresh, diverse, delicious, high quality, and worth every penny of the prix-fixe price. There are two seatings - one at 11 am and one at 1 pm. Between 11 and 1, diners are seated in a staggered order, (i.e., 11 am, then 11:15 am, then 11:30, etc) possibly to avoid big crowds or lines at the buffet. We were there this past Sunday and there were two large parties of approx 8, our table of 4, and 3 or 4 tables of 2. Not jam packed by any means, but still a nice atmosphere - quiet, comfortable seating, table linens, etc. The buffet itself is pretty much the PREMIERE brunch buffet of Rochester. There is fresh fruit, cheeses, made-to-order omelets, bacon, sausage, pancakes, salads, dips, breads, smoked salmon, finger sandwiches, raw and cooked veggies, pastas, prime rib, and several other meat choices (cooked salmon, baked chicken), plus a huge assortment of desserts, which, on the day we visited, included carrot cake, tiramisu, Boston cream pie, blueberry bread pudding, fresh hot apple crisp, cookies, brownies, mini cream puffs and eclairs and lemon curd. Literally something for everyone no matter your dietary restrictions or preferences. We each made several trips and the buffet remained fresh-looking and well stocked during our entire visit. Included with the buffet is all-you-can drink coffee, tea and fresh juice, plus a complimentary mimosa, champagne or other cocktail. If you go intending to eat and run, you can do that....but this is a dining experience that should be savored. We sat for just under 2 hours, had multiple plates, sampled nearly everything, and never felt rushed to leave or free up the table. Our server, Nick, was very attentive, and we sat near the windows overlooking the view of southern Rochester - and though it was a rainy day, we really enjoyed seeing the dramatic skies and bands of showers moving around. This is a great place for a special occasion, a group outing or even just a solid good meal...though I personally think it's a bit too decadent for every weekend...but to each their own! However after we finished eating and sat waiting and waiting... the bus boy must have told our waiter that I was standing up waiting bc our waiter finally came and brought the check. As a vegetarian I am used to boring menu options. Horizons provided two of the tastiest dishes I have had in quite some time. The golden beet salad with Swiss chard, dill crème fraiche, and pistachios was fantastic and good complimentary flavors. My entree was sautéed celery root with butternut squash hash and yellow curry. Both very delicious. I was fortunate that I was staying at the hotel and that's how I found them, but I'd come back in a heartbeat. Wonderful, my compliments to the chef. read more

Went for brunch while staying at the Woodcliff. It has a spectacular view, with a nice decor. Was not impressed with their breakfast buffet. Had some of the usual items but selections of sliced fruit, bagels, muffins, cereals were limited. They did offer scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, pan cakes, home fries and quiche. My suggestion, order off the menu and get the seasonal berries and cream. Their berries were delicious. Don't waste your money on the buffet. read more

(First I will say we were hotel guests) To start; Our server, Sasha, was lovely, attentive, hard working. I wish her all the best! The hotel is worn and tired and in need of a massive overhaul. The restaurant is also showing signs of needing TLC. The food; well, we ordered 2 appetizers; -the roasted carrots which were simply DELICIOUS and I could have eaten a whole entree worth of those. - the charred caesar salad was - meh. I could see the leaves were brownish but there was no taste of charring whatsoever. I like that they served fresh anchovies (on the side), which was nice, but otherwise it was just a plain, rather ordinary caesar salad. For main dishes we had: -poached cauliflower steak - well, we were happy to see something like this on the menu. Something you don't see often! I love creative vegetarian dishes on menus. Makes me happy. I happen to make roasted cauliflower "steaks" quite often and was excited to try this...WELLL oh my goodness. This dish should be called "dry white rice with barely cooked cauliflower and a sprinkling of saffron" - what the heck? It was in NO WAY a "steak" - just some very undercooked cauliflower florets - The rice was DRY, there was no sauce - I want to make my cauliflower steaks and bring them over to the chef! I wish we had just sent it back and tried the tofu instead. -The other main dish we ordered was the halibut. Halibut is very expensive these days so the last thing you want to do is kill it twice! But...they did. It was over cooked and dry! What a massive shame!! The cauliflower risotto was not flavorful. I was wanting to send everything back and ask for a large plate of those roasted carrots! We HATE complaining and the server was as sweet as she could be but English is not her first language and waiting tables is not her prior background so I just knew it would be too discouraging to her to try and explain what wasn't working with the meal. The wine that was offered complimentary for our anniversary made us refuse to complain The next morning we had breakfast there as well. Breakfast was SLOW so I don't recommend eating here if you're in a hurry. -Eggs benedict (with smoked salmon) - the eggs should be POACHED. Both were fully cooked yolks. This time I did ask to please send me at least ONE poached egg so I could eat the salmon and bread. Again, servers are kind and well intended. Kitchen needs better training! read more

This was a breakfast buffet so not much to say about it except great selection of good. It was not crowded so we were able to be seated right away. The potatoes were wonderful, they included onions and peppers. That is a nice touch. But everything was same staples as most buffets. Kinda of pricey for your choice of food. But it was at the hotel we were staying at so convenience. Would I go again, maybe, but for the price might venture out somewhere else. View was beautiful and to watch the sun rise was a nice touch. I've dined in both the restaurant and the lounge (bar area). The reason for all of my visits to Woodcliff's bar/restaurant are to support my better half when his band plays there on Thursdays. In the lounge, there's usually a selection of free appetizers for your snacking pleasure. It's often a few cheeses, cured meats, caprese salad, jalapeño poppers, etc. It's a nice treat if you're popping in for a drink and aren't hungry enough for a full meal. You can sit at the bar and there's also a server dedicated to the lounge area if you land an open table. Their wine list is enormous, with some killer bottles with a hefty price tag like Opus One and the like. I, on the other hand, regularly opt for the Diseño Malbec and the Nobilo Sauv Blanc. In the lounge, they serve appetizers, sandwiches, and a few entrees. I've enjoyed the Caesar salad, the baked brie is a good one to share with wine, although it wasn't as warm and melty as we expected. It's paired with naan bread and crackers. I like the soups as well. They have daily specials so be sure to ask. The cheeseburger is a standard, suitable option as well. Of course, if you want the real deal dining experience, I recommend you make a reservation for the restaurant. My visit to the restaurant was inspired in part by a long overdue mother-daughter date. Of course she deserved a treat, she did raise me, so we pulled out the stops for L. We requested to sit near the band because it twas a Thursday and The Swooners were playing. The hostess was happy to accommodate as the restaurant saddles up to the bar area and the stage. Since undergoing some recent renovations, the bar and restaurant now have a lovely updated vibe. The carpets are plush, the wallpaper embellished, dark woods, red and black color palatte, and a somewhat unusual Japanese-inspired flair. On our evening at Horizons, we landed a table by the window, which overlooks the back hill with a gorgeous view of the sunset (also perfect during the fall for the foliage). Service was impeccable. We were greeted right away, brought waters, specials were explained in detail, and our wine order was taken. There was a perfect balance between the service of appetizers and entrees. Never a moment felt waiting for what's next. My filet was cooked as I requested. Tender and juicy and delicious alongside the standard mashed red potatoes and asparagus. This review is specifically for the lounge. I really enjoy a good hotel bar. I'm not sure if that's weird or not, but there is an atmosphere about this type of lounge/bar that you don't get other places. Maybe because they don't have as many locals hanging out, and if you're an out-of-towner or just visiting once you don't feel as awkward. Anyways, I came out to Horizons specifically to hear some live music. The local group that I love has been playing here, and I just wanted to sit back, relax with a couple cocktails, and listen to some really good musicians. And that's what I got. I was perfectly content to sit and chat with a friend, listen to the mellow sounds, and sort of just blend into the crowd. For a Tuesday night, there was actually quite a big crowd at the bar, so my friend and I sat at a table in the bar area. Service was fine... actually our server was a delightful young woman. Happy to bring us another round. I really like the decor here. Maybe it is what it is - hotel chic - but I guess I like that sort of thing. We were staying at the hotel since we were celebrating our birthdays and decided to have dinner at the restaurant. We have been there before and it was always good. This visit was not as good. Our waiter had a hard time communicating, our Bibb salad was so wet there was water on the plate & the wine is over priced. Our dinners were ok, beef & halibut, but I can get the same dinner and better one at other area restaurants I am sure. We won't be back anytime soon. read more
