Steve's seems to be a central location for a couple of co-workers and I to meet for lunch about once a month. I'll give a review based on my last experience there- it seems not to be consistent- unfortunately, This past visit I ordered the corn-beef cabbage soup- delicious!! Light broth, soft potatoes and carrots. I only wish I had gotten a cup of it to take home with me For my main dish I had the Greek grilled chicken sandwich....while I always tend to get this and LOVE IT! It's one of those hit or miss situations, this I guess was a "missed the mark" day. Wondering if maybe there's a different chef during these occasions that's not their regular. Just didn't taste overall that great. My co-worker got her tried and true egg salad sandwich with a basket of fries. She said the egg salad was delicious and the basket of fries were not only hot but huge! Would I recommend this restaurant for a visit, probably. Exceptional! It was my first time there and going for breakfast there is one of ONLY 3 reasons I will wake up early! The other 2 are leaving on a cruise and taking off on a plane for a cruise! Back to the amazing food. Coffee was fresh and flavorful(Jamaican me crazy flavor) and promptly filled for seconds. With the vast menu it was a tough decision but I chose Lemon Ricotta Blueberry Lovecakes. New word for pancakes and it lives up to the new hype! Lemon zest gives you a stronger Lemon flavor to counteract the ricotta filling. The blueberries were big and plump! Every bite made me smile and do a little happy food dance. I will start this as I always do by saying I do not give out five stars unless I am really blown away. This is the second original Steve's diner that I've been to. I love them both. Food is always. Excellent. Services have been good at both. The decor is that of a diner. If you come here, try the pancakes. They're ginormous. Love the Mediterranean salad if you're in for a salad, definitely get it. Sandwiches are delicious. I haven't had a bad meal here. I would recommend this place to anyone if you need breakfast or lunch find an original Steve's diner in the Rochester area and go eat you will not be let down read more

I have ordered here a couple times, and the food has just been alright. I have gone with a couple different types of omelettes and a couple different types of breakfast sandwiches and they are always just nothing to write home about. The home fries have also been a hit or miss. Sometimes they are nice, fresh, and crispy. But sometimes they seem old and flavorless. The restaurant has a nice ambiance, with usually pleasant staff. I will say the first couple times I stopped into the restaurant, the staff were so nice and pleasant. But the last few times I have stopped it has been different. I tried to call in a to-go order one Saturday morning, and I was met with a "No, we're too busy" and hung up the phone on me. Another time, I think the cashier said two words to me which we "sign here". I don't think I will stop going to this restaurant but I will probably frequent it less with this most recent experiences I have had. read more

Not only was the food delicious and HUGE portions but staff was friendly and fast! Food delivered quickly and one thing to note was that I left the table to use the ladies room and my husband left the table not seeing my wallet there. The owner/person at the register kept a very close eye on the table and let me know when I returned that he made sure it was safe!! I so appreciated it and we chuckled about it! This is the third edition of the original Steve's. It's menu is true to the original original. Lots to choose from, breakfast and lunch being served all day. Great choice of food, bright, and spacious interior, had a tent of weight staff. Prices are moderate, but portions are large so the value is there. The quality of the food is there too. This is an enduring restaurant, and I'm looking forward to seeing the fourth edition of the original Steve's someday. read more

My experience here was a bit traumatic but more on that later. When we arrived there was a sign that said please wait to be seated. I didn't realize there was a check in station behind me where people were cashing out until a teen told me. It was packed which I can only imagine is due to the breakfasts but we were there for lunch. After about a 10-15 minute wait we were seated. Not bad. Our server was pleasant but a bit aloof regarding many things. She struggled using her machine to put orders in and on the last order in my party of 3 took out her note pad. My son ordered a burger with a side of poutine. She argued poutine isn't a side. He pointed to poutine listed under sides and I explained he wanted the burger and an order of poutine. She sort of rolled her eyes at me. Our food comes out and the reason I wanted to try here as they were on Rochester's top 25 places to eat. I was immediately deflated at the blah presentation of the food and knew it was going to taste as it looked. Unfortunately on my first bite of the buffalo blue burger the buffalo sauce spice hit the back of my throat and I started coughing. I spit out the food in my mouth into a napkin. I couldn't breathe. I was gasping for breath. My son looked terrified and my husband kept asking me if I needed my son who just finished first aid training for his lifeguard job to do the heimlich. I knew I wasn't choking but I couldn't really breathe or talk. At this point the coughing was over and I was making these god awful gasping noises as my brain raced to figure out what was happening. Choking? No. I don't feel food in my throat or mouth or anywhere. Allergy? Maybe, my throat feels constricted but it isn't typically this sudden and severe (I'm allergic to other foods but not to this extent). Ever heard of laryngospasm? Me neither but it happened to me for the first time ever. The server came over to tell my husband and son that the poutine she forgot to input would be a few more minutes as I'm sitting there gasping for air trying to get more air in and the strangest noises are coming from me. My husband and son staring at me waiting for me to give them the signal that I want help. She doesn't even ask if I'm ok or if I need help. For some reason I think to take a slug of water which goes down smoothly and within seconds I'm back to normal. I cannot express enough how scary it was to not breathe and not understand why. Rating for the lack of server preparedness in an emergency situation or even the ability to understand a situation was happening. My apologies for the harshness but there is no way any person would not have understood if they heard the noises coming out of me which were a definite struggle to breathe. The food was blah. I was so excited to try top notch diner food and unfortunately it 100% fell flat. read more

Steve's has a huge menu with a ton of variety. We went for breakfast and I had the homemade hash which was very good but also very different than average. It was made with shredded potatoes (instead of cubed) and it had some spice to it. It was a large portion, with two eggs and toast plus an extra side of home fried potatoes which had some good crunchy pieces. We didn't have a pancake but they are enormous. Probably the size of 3 or 4 pancakes in one. Can't wait to try that next time. read more

Very attentive and prompt service. Went on a weekend, seated quickly by a friendly server. Was so good, we returned the next day.

3rd and last time to be in this diner! Only took 10 minutes to be seated. :). Weren't told the kitchen was VERY slow and 45 minutes later, still no food, we asked the owner what was going on. He BLEW! "What's our problem"? He was VERY offended that we would question anything. We told him it was disrespectful of customers time to have anyone ordering anything other than cold sandwiches to wait without any explanation. Our server apologized, food came at 50 minutes. Owner screamed he would "buy our breakfast"! Not our goal! We gave our server the cash as a tip for the amount of our meal. It was embarrassing, to be berated in front of staff and customers for something as simple as asking about our food status. At one point I really thought the owner would come totally unhinged. First time to try this diner. We would recommend this place for its variety of breakfast choices. Had the Eggs Benedict over waffle and Spinach Feta Omelette with potatoes on the grill. Very convenient spot just off the highway and adjacent to major shopping centers. This place is mostly for breakfast although they do have a lunch menu as well. Well run and very clean. Good food and service. Mostly known for their giant pancakes called "Love Cakes". Lots of sweet and savory options on the menu. read more

Visited 4 times, ate twice, not impressed First visit, food was ok and average for a breakfast diner. Had the El Paso. Eggs a were overcooked and lacked ingredients. Coffee was blah. Second visit, a long wait for overpriced eggs and pancakes. Something very sweet and sugary in the pancake. Not good at all. Tasted like a combination of powdered sweeteners. Ended up not eating any of it. Coffee was again, blah. Place was very busy and noisy, and felt extremely rushed. Server never checked on us after we got our order in until it was bill time. So no coffee refill, no dessert. The old guy host rudely cleared our table to rush us along and spilled my wife's water everywhere and on her clothes. No apology, nothing, just handed her a towel and our bill to get the table ready for the next customer. Third visit, not sure why we went back but we did. Not many people waiting but we were passed up by parties that were walking in after us and got sat ahead of us. We checked with the host and they kept saying we were up soon but 45 minutes later we were passed up over and over again. So we left and went to Panera. Much better food and coffee. Fourth visit, we thought maybe they got the kinks out but same thing happened. Only one couple waiting and the old man host said it was a very short wait. But over the next 30 minutes about 4 tables were sat ahead of us by parties that walked in after us. We wondered why there were tables open but they didn't seat us or the two other parties that walked in right after us. But instead immediately sat 4 other parties as soon as they walked in the door. We asked the old man host why and he very rudely said... we know what we are doing, they called in ahead... two other couples asked the host the same question. He was very rude to them as well. So we left, never to return...ever. If you have call ahead seating then you should inform waiting customers so they know they can call ahead also. And if you know there is a call ahead wait list then you should let those walk-ins know that there will be others seated ahead of you. Especially when your food isn't worth the wait. read more

My girlfriends and I love going to Original Steve's Diner in Victor. The restaurant has a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere. You can tell the staff really loves their jobs and they give excellent attention and service to patrons. The owner John and his wife Elizabeth have truly mastered the art of upscale diner cuisine. Although many people love the ultra delicious pancakes, I was ecstatic when they added crepes. The cheesecake crepes with berries paired with a side of bacon are the perfect pairing of sweet and savory. I will definitely be a regular customer. read more

I went a few times when they first opened up and the service was good, but I wasn't crazy about the quality of the food. Disappointed to say the very least. After having many wonderful experiences as the Henrietta location, the owner of this new location, John Rozakliz, is the sole reason my family will never return to this location. The food was your average diner food, our waitress was kind, but Mr. Rozakliz was incredibly rude, specifically to my children. For being a family establishment I was appalled by how he treated us. Insisted I "calmed my child down" - a 20 month old that was sitting strapped in his chair playing with toys. When approached to give him feedback, he got wildly defensive and refused to give us his name to leave a review. A simple Google search was all it took. He blamed my family for creating an uncomfortable environment for the rest of his patrons, though both of my kids were seated and not at all being disruptive.
