Some friends invited us for lunch at this establishment in Lafayette, California. This is sort of an eat-in takeaway restaurant. No table service. Our friends ordered the hot-links, brisket and pork ribs. The ribs (for me and my wife) were a bit too salty. The hot links were good as were the brisket (succulent and tender). Potato salad and mac-cheese was good (a bit salty). Drinks came with "free" refills. The bathrooms were outside the building around another building. The bathrooms were clean and neat. Ambience is zero. Although we did pay for lunch, the cost of the food was not cheap!! Go to this restaurant for the food don't bother taking a date to this place. read more

I was very excited to try Horn Barbecue for the first time, but I was a bit skeptical due to some mediocre reviews which were mostly about the long line and wait. Our experience was great. There was a short line but it only took a few minutes, and my tri tip sandwich was one of the best ever. The tri tip was super tender and juicy and without too much fat. We also enjoyed the sides, especially the Mac & cheese and potato salad. I will be back for sure! read more

But take note friends---they run out of food early and almost every night. We were there at 6pm and they were already sold out of brisket and ribs. I'm originally from Texas so I'm very critical of BBQ but I can say that this is the best BBQ place I've tried in California. They have a nice selection of meats and sides. We are Horn BBQ fans and used to go to the Oakland location and also to Kowbird so we were happy to hear they took over the All the Smoke location. My only issue with Horn BBQ is with the operation set up - it makes no sense. I thought perhaps they'd change it with this new location but it's still as bad as it was in Oakland. I don't understand why they set it up to have everything functioning on the left side of the dining room right where the entry door is? You've got the door blocked by the line of people. The water station also blocked. The online pick up station located there and blocked too. Then you've got one person taking the order and preparing it all and walking it down to the cashier. Takes forever depending on the size of the order. There's probably 6 feet of counter space with nothing going on except dishing up sides. Just so inefficient - there are much better ways to operate. Wanted to try this new BBQ place that had great reviews. Sorry we were totally disappointed. First it was 50 degrees outside and two doors were wired open so a nice freezing cross breeze set the atmosphere. Was told need to keep door open for the line. So everyone had their coats and hats on and needed even more. Very uncomfortable. Out of pork ribs so got a beef rib. Very dry and lacked taste. Brisket was ok and pulled pork was a little dry. Sides of potatoes was like mush and the Mac and cheese was almost unidentifiable. And the service is so slow because only one person was making each order and slicing the meat etc. Absolutely a one and done for us and I hope people reconsider going here. Another new BBQ is opening on Tice Valley so hopefully they will be better read more

Dropped in yesterday to try the food. Never did because though I only had 5 people in front of me in line I waited for 25 minutes and still had 3 people in front of me. I had to leave because my Meyer was expiring. They need to have more than one person taking orders and weighing out the food or they will fail like other bbq joints on this place. Delay is partially due to the need to weigh out every piece of meat rather than selling by the rack etc. smelled great so I gave it a 3. Owner needs to address staff efficiency. Will try again but if the line moves at a snails pace again will be tough to support. read more

It's a shame, me and my husband have been going to this one and the oakland location for some time now as it's a fun treat when we have the extra cash. It seems though the quality has gone down hill, they're always out of sides (we show up within an hour or two of opening), the pit beans now have no meat and are soupy and the customer service has been terrible- i think they have a whole new staff line up at this one as i don't recognize any of the new employees. They were also out of brisket buns today so we got "hamburger buns" that were smaller, had less meat and got charged the same price. the only reason i give 1 star is because the meat was still tender- cold but tender. without the meat being decent this place would be a 0. i cannot justify going here and spending $100 on 2 people for less than mediocre food. i wouldn't recommend anyone to come anymore either. it's sad as it was one of my favorite places to bring my family but not anymore, ive noticed this down turn since they started opening more restaurants. i'd try the one in elk grove but to me it would be a gamble i don't find worth it. read more

I agree with other comments that the drink station should be moved, there should be at least 1 more person working the counter, they should serve beer, and they need to do better at keeping the line outside rather than crowding the dining room. Regretfully I have to give this business that was great up until the 10th of September 2025 a one star review. I have been here a few times and really enjoyed the service and the food mostly. A few of the times the AC has been out. I kind of had to overlook that due to the food being great. On the 10th of sept I went there with a friend hoping to introduce them to the experience. After checking the website and making sure it was open I drove down only to find out that it was closed. This is at around 12:30pm "lunch time". The next day on the eleventh I try calling and no answer. Just fyi still to this day no answer of any kind. I was driving down that way anyway and saw that it was open. Thursday is when I was told and it was posted at one point that their tri tip sandwich is available. So I took the chance of going in. I ask for the tri tip sandwich and the reply is that it is not available. I try for the brisket and he says we can do that. Ok... he states the only problem is that they have no bread for the sandwich that I would like. He says I can give a a little extra meat to compensate. Weird and I'm thinking ok.... Wrong. They don't have any Mac and cheese, no beans and that they ran out. Pretty much no sides. At around 1pm in the day. He does have a bit of potato salad, so I take that. I asked what the reason is that they are out of everything. The reply seems honest but sad. The response is the vendors did not deliver enough. I say sad because usually when these sorts of events take place, a venue is getting ready to shut down. I say sad because this was one of the best smoke bbq places anywhere near us. Anyway. I hope I'm wrong and they can get all of their issues sorted out. I would not return unless it became a consistent business. read more

We arrived with high hopes early on a Saturday afternoon to avoid items being sold out. I took two out-of-town guests who know BBQ, both from the Carolinas and Texas. Folks were nice enough but with one person preparing meats, the service was very slow. Self-service from counter to tables, tables not cleaned, no AC, dirty windows, very loud music, restrooms at some distance, parking metered if off the street. We were willing to look beyond a lot for good local BBQ, but the sandwiches were generous but doused with sweet sauce, with the bread sitting in sauce and soggy. The brisket was fatty, and there was very little smoky flavor in any of the meats. The cole slaw was cabbage only and unremarkable, mac & cheese was good, but I'd guess the beans were from a can and swimming in the same sweet sauce as applied to the meats. I looked forwared to trying Horn BBQ and do wish I could recommend a new place to friends, but not that experience at those prices. read more

Just echoing what some have said: Spare ribs are like jerky on the top parts (babyback ribs, where have you gone?), brisket is tough otherwise melt in your mouth on fatty parts which take no skill to do that, the wait is unjustified, sides were elite for the most part, and they had no hot links which you kind of need because who can mess that up? Having had some of the best BBQ ribs ever in Texas, these ribs were the worst we have ever tasted. If you like ribs covered in peppercorns, these are for you. Use to come here years ago go when it was BO's and it was our favorite. Decided to come here because I really like BBQ spareribs and read some positive reviews. Came a few months earlier on a Saturday afternoon and had a hard time finding parking and a long line coming out the door. Decided to give it a try again on a Thursday before 12 noon and there was no line at all. The ordering is different and everything is a la cart. The pulled pork was a 3.5 /5, moist, tender and seasoned well. I came mainly for the spareribs and was very disappointed. Visually they looked great with a nice mahogany color and nice smoke ring. The spareribs were a little chewy and tough, but really lack any barbecue taste or smoked flavor. I would give them a 2/5. They only have one type of BBQ sauce and it was just tangy and mild. The should have addition BBQ sauces that has a little more heat. I think the ribs were a little chewy because they were not cooked recently, possibly from the night before ( we came in today around 11:30). Some reviewers say it is a little pricey, but most will over look the price if the quality and taste is there. I might give it another try to see if I had spareribs are any better the next time. read more
