I came here for a quick lunch with my mom and my sister. We weren't super hungry but wanted to try this place. We decided on getting the 2 item combo and we were lucky since it was Monday. Mondays you get $8 off any combo platter. We got the tri tip, pork ribs, Mac n cheese, and salad. It was perfect for the 3 of us! The meat was really tender and fall off the bone. The salad was great to split and Mac n cheese was delicious! The waitress had long explanations for everything when we asked for recommendations. Horrible experience this past weekend. The server was nice but had little to no food knowledge whatsoever I ordered a Crab Louie salad but was told there was no Louie dressing. The last real retro diner left in the area and I had not dined here. It is known for its breakfast as the menu consists of many items with a huge variety of egg dishes, griddle items, biscuits and gravy, etc. Also, popular are the BBQ items but I do not eat pork, nor beef so I opted for a grilled crab melt with soup of the day being Chicken Rice Soup. The sandwich and soup were delicious! Many rave about the fresh baked pies so I took an entire Lemon Meringue pie to go for dessert. (I was disappointed when I ate a slice; the crust was hard, not flaky and the lemon filling was orangey, not yellow. But it did taste like lemon.) The servers are very efficient and cordial. My friends wanted to meet up together and get brunch, so we decided to go to this place. We made a reservation, so seating was easy. It was quite packed today on a Sunday, but we sat all the way in the back. After taking our order, it did take quite a bit before we got our food. Veggie Benedict: I always have to order this if a restaurant serves it and I will say this place did not disappoint. The Hollandaise was on point, being thick and not runny. The flavor was also good. The Benedict itself was simple, with tomatoes and avocado. I wish it did have spinach though (that would make it a Florentine Benny). But I still enjoyed what I ate. The each was poached perfectly for me, with it only running once I broke the whites. My only disappointment was I asked for crispy hash browns and I felt it was not crispy enough for me. This will forever always be one of my favorite restaurants. I have been coming here with my family since I was a kid. The French dip sandwich on Dutch crunch is OUT OF THIS WORLD. The meat is so juicy and tender. I order it every single time we go. The mashed potatoes are made fresh and never disappoint. On 01/17/2025, I came here for an early dinner with two friends before heading across the street to catch a high school basketball game. It wasn't too busy when we walked in at around 6pm. The hostess greeted us, and we were seated at a table in the new bar area. The nostalgic ambiance remained the same in the main dining area. Our server was a friendly Asian woman, who promptly brought us menus and water. After a few minutes of deliberating, my friends opted for the Western Sausage Omelet and the Veggie Scramble (with egg whites), while I got the Wood-Smoked Chicken Salad. Our food arrived quickly since our server sensed that we were in a hurry. My salad was overall so-so. The produce was fresh, and the chicken was moist, tender, and plentiful. Taste wise, very little smokiness was noticed, and it actually reminded of Costco rotisserie chicken. Additionally, I found a sharp piece of inedible tendon in my food. Hopefully, management will see this review and the kitchen staff will do a better job shredding the chicken from now on. This place is frequented by many local seniors and I certainly don't want anyone finding such surprise. Service we received was adequate. The total, with tax and an 18% tip, was close to $67. Came here to try the barbecue. It's like an old diner inside. Staff are great and service was nice. Tried the 3 meat barbecue plate with grilled vegetables and beans. The St. Louis ribs are delicious they do those very well. Tri tip was decent and the pulled pork was average at best. Classic diner feel with some good food! I have been coming here all my life and it's a great easy go to. The breakfast is great, sit at the counter if you are in a group of 2 or by yourself! Bbq or smoked meats are also very tasty and perfect catering for a party! Also don't forget to try their pie! For our most recent catering experience, make sure you hold on to your receipts. Well I have to say I was terribly disappointed in the breakfast. I expected so much more. The gravy was obviously instant and I expected homemade. They only had hash browns no country potatoes biscuits were okay but not spectacular. Bacon was mediocre eggs were just eggs. What got me was a coffee it could have woke up to dead. Service wasn't that great either but of course I tip nicely. Waitresses seem more interested in sitting around talking catching up on gossip rather than providing service. The menu is a as large as their pies. Given the restaurant's name I was surprised there weren't many bbq options compared to the other offerings. The bbq was good but was it really bbq'd? We shared the meat plate and it was plenty of food. The milkshake was good and alas no room for pie. The service was slow from time to time. We were seated way in the back of the restaurant so maybe that is why we were forgotten about. While there wasn't anything bad there wasn't anything stellar so we probably won't go back. read more

Wow, guess everyone is having a hard time hiring good staff. Arrived "hostess" ignored me; greeted a couple behind me. But she didn't return, so I just walked in and sat down at the bar. This area of the restaurant is very nice. Server brought me water right away, then didn't see her for 15 min. Finally placed my order, after another 15 min or so my entrée showed up, closely followed by my salad, sent the entrée back to the kitchen; not surprisingly my entree was simply placed under a heating lamp. Good quality: Sitting under a heat lamp didn't help the St. Louis style ribs, dry as the desert (informed the server, "sorry"). Original ribs were delicious and moist, nice sized baked potato with all the fixings and the salad was fresh and crisp Inattentive service and poor food quality, with an "oh well" attitude, I can only give 2 stars. Will I return, probably, but only on Thursday afternoon when I've always received excellent service and any quality issues with food was addressed. read more

We came here based on great past experiences. Today was just so-so for me, a newbie, and for the other people who have already been. I got the BLTA. It was ok. They put the mayo on the side which is weird, why not just put it on? The bread was toasted but it was soft and soggy. I got the side of Mac and cheese, it was actually pretty good but not really worth a 3.5 dollar up charge. We ordered about 11:30 and so we were short of the 12pm baked potato hour. I have been going to Hick'ry Pit since I was a kid, and I haven't ever stopped! While prices have gone up over the years, it's to be expected, and the quality of food, service, and coziness remains as high as ever! Food came out quickly, and my pancakes and eggs were cooked perfectly. My friend's berry French toast was delicious as well, and the berries tasted and felt fresh. Our coffees were both perfect as well. This restaurant is your classic diner style, even modernized a bit with the renovations. They made it nicer while maintaining the environment everyone knows and loves the restaurant for. I will keep going until I have my own kids to bring as well! read more

Food is just okay but the service can be pretty darn awful, there's this one older blonde lady whose a waitress and if you don't know what you want to order she'll come by every 2 minutes asking if you're ready and then complain about the lunch rush. The restaurant is never all that busy and it sure as heck doesn't require any type of rudeness or bothering the customers when they're trying to figure out what to order. The eggs Benedict's stop being served after 2pm I believe, not too sure why, the chefs don't even know how to make a good Benedict seeing as every time I've gotten one the egg is not runny and it's overcooked. What a disappointment! We have gone to this location many time over the years but so much has changed. When my daughter had been in the hospital to have our grandkids we always ate here. Now my mother was in the hospital so we thought that we would order dinner from here to eat with her in her room. When we got our food back to the room we found that it was not all there. Also the sweet potato fries were soggy dripping wet and limp. We just tossed them. I called to let them know that part of our dinner was missing and the gal that answered the phone said oh that was my fault. I forgot to put it in the bag. I asked if they could just credit back my card for the missing food and was told no that they did not give refunds only an "on us card" for a future purchase. Not what I wanted to hear but ok how do I get this credit? I was told that the manager would call me tomorrow. No call came. The next night my husband joined us visiting my mother and he wanted to order from here based on our past experiences. So I called and asked for the credit I should have received from the missing food from before. I was told that they could only mail an "on us card" to me. Not sure how it is food on us when I already paid for it. The card would only be redeemable at this location and not at any other Hick'ry pit location. I explained that I live over two hours from this location and am only in town to be with my mother in the hospital. I was only asking for a credit for the items that were not delivered but were already paid for. The manager agreed to give us the money off our dinner order for tonight. My husband went over and ordered our food but instead of a finical credit off the cost of our dinner for tonight they put extra food in the bag. What will I do with extra food at the hospital? When we unpacked the food the salad was brown. No one would even eat any of it. Straight to the trash. The Sweet potato fries were again uneatable. Straight to the trash. I purposely did not order them again for this very reason. My husband ordered a steak with a bake potato. The steak was ok over cooked but ok however the bake potato had nothing on it: no butter, no sour cream, not even salt or pepper. When I called to express my displeasure at not receiving the money toward our new dinner from the already paid for food missing from before the manager said "I gave you free food instead" It was not free food if I paid for it and it was not given to us. This is not free food but food I have now paid for twice! First the night I did not receive it and again tonight since I ordered all the food we will eat tonight. I have no use for extra food when we are visiting in the hospital what exactly am I expected to do with more food and we will eat while we are here. The nostalgia and flash backs of having the ribs and fries when I first came to US and that being my first "American" BBQ are still there. Had ribs and they were firm, perfectly seasoned fall off the bone tender. I like the red sauce the best and the fries were just perfect. Service was exceptional. Table next to me had a pie so I decided to follow suite and this being peach season that's what I ordered. Now am not sure how to feel about this pie.... 4+ one of those old school breakfast cafes that you don't see very often anymore. This particular diner has been open since 1958. Met some friends there and got greeted by a friendly host and got seated right away. My buddy, who's a regular, said that it looks like they streamlined their menu, but looks like they have lots of breakfast classic options. The folks and our server were super friendly and attentive. Just a nice classic vibe in this place. I ended up getting the Hick'ry Pit Special Scramble - with hash browns and sourdough toast. The hash browns were nice and crispy and the scramble was super tasty. Folks always came by to see if I needed more coffee as well. I wanted some pie (the banana cream pie sounded and looked delicious) but I was way too full after I had my breakfast.
