We randomly came here for lunch one day with our kids. It was easy to get seated without reservations on a Sunday at noon. There's plentiful inside seating and a comfortable shaded outdoor patio. There is a full bar that some folks were sitting at. We opted for the outside patio since we had our kids with us and they can be loud. Our server was kind and accommodating. She checked in often, but not in an invasive way. Everything here is farm to table, and tasted fresh. The oysters were delicious and so were the mussels which came with a delightful coconut broth and grilled bread. The kids enjoyed a fried chicken slider with fries. My favorite was the beet salad with goat cheese. It was so flavorful and perfectly cooked. This is definitely a spot to try with or without your kiddos. The two pieces of bread that came with it weren't nearly enough to handle the whole dish. The short rib was tender but slightly dry, though the polenta and carrots underneath were a nice touch. Drinks: The tea thyme was a bit too fragrant, almost perfume-like. Tasted fine, but next time I'd probably go boozier instead. The lemonade was plain, but that's to be expected. This was my second time at Social Bird and I really enjoyed the casual, laid-back vibe. Everyone working there was super friendly. My partner and I made a reservation for lunch and was seated right away. But by the end of lunch, it was pretty packed! The fried chicken sliders were the standout for me. At first, I thought it was funny that the biscuit was so tiny compared to the massive piece of chicken, but after eating it, I totally get it--and honestly prefer it that way now. The chicken was perfectly crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and seasoned so well that it didn't need anything extra. We also ordered the hanger steak, and it was cooked perfectly. While in the area, we wanted to beat the heat and grab a seat somewhere indoors. Social Bird did the trick without a reservation on a week night. We grabbed the Korean Fried Chicken Wings to share to start (so good!), and followed with the Risotto and grilled chicken as the protein, Lamb sliders, the Beeler's Duroc Pork Chop, and wine/cocktails. We even ordered the Peach Crumble Tart and espresso/Tawny Port to finish off the meal. We sat in a corner booth by the open kitchen. It was unfortunately a bit too hot, but we made it work. Highlights included the small touches including the sweet corn in the risotto, the parm polenta cake, the sauce with those sliders (grab the garlic aioli for the fries), and loved that someone in our party was able to grab a white wine flight. We loved this place great service and the food was so so good. The drink was ok refreshing but missing dimension. The chicken sliders were so good wish there was more of that jelly since the piece of chicken is so big so you can get some in every bit. The fries had great flavor just wish they were a trade crispier. The salmon salad was amazing so many fresh flavors and the salmon was cooked perfectly. So glad we came here for brunch our waitress was so nice and very attentive. The deserts were the perfect size. I had the coconut sorbet and it had some crispy toasted coconut flakes which I thought were the best topping. It wasn't very busy when we went it was pretty quiet. It has been a while since my last visit. I had discovered an old childhood neighbor lived nearby and never visited. So it was an opportunity to show her this favorite. She had ordered the hamburger and I, the short rib sandwich. I must admit I was disappointment as I am accustomed to braised short ribs offered by their sister restaurant that I found the short rib on the dry side and dipping it in the au jus just made it very salty. I had the green salad instead of fries. My friend enjoyed her fries and her medium well burger. The service was not very attentive and the place was packed for this Thursday lunch hour. read more

The hanger steak was great and the lamb sliders were decent. Another amazing meal at Social Bird! Had an amazing dinner her to celebrate graduation! Began with a delicious cocktail called Team Thyme and then enjoyed many of their smaller dishes: Octopus which was delicious with a fennel purée, burrata with a strawberry jam toast, cod tostadas, beets with a crema and feta and toasted carrots! I was in Lafayette and randomly came across this restaurant, so I decided to stop by and try it out. I really liked the ambiance. As for the food, it was just okay. The KFC was not quite what I expected and didn't really give me that Korean fried chicken taste. The Wagyu burger was good. The avocado bruschetta was definitely the standout for me. Not sure why I only gave this place 4 stars. We have spent a serious amount of time here with laptops open and without the major electronics. The staff, drinks, food and ambiance is all great. We have sat here for hours and hours eating, drinking and working on stuff for hours. Food is great, drinks are great staff is awesome awesome. Made an easy online reservation for Friday night. We sat outside on the patio but the weather wasn't bad and this time, the patio heaters were working. We had a very enthusiastic and friendly server. We started with the pulpo, and shrimp appetizers. Wife got the steak frites and I had the halibut special over the fresh corn polenta. Steak was skirt, so had good flavor with a bit of chew. The location of this place is in a very nice neighborhood and surrounded by lots of other businesses and stores. Parking is available in front but can get occupied quickly. There is also an underground garage around the corner but do keep in mind that you pay for it up until 7pm. The food- WOOOOOOOW THE OYSTERS!! I had to start there because these are scrumptious! Straight from Washington and they are so buttery. I had to order roughly about 16 total . Worth the price and the way these pair with a good beer are so bomb! The cheese and jam on bread was a nice starter. Mussels I would say are also very tasty and a must have. Curry sauce pairs good with the smell veggie bits in it. Our waitress made as extremely nice and sweep. Gigi who took care of us went above and beyond! Recommend a lot of different things and was very sweet! I've been meaning to try Social Bird for a long time, and I'm so glad I finally did. I loved the ambiance right away. When you walk in, there's a large central bar with seating all around it, plus tables along the sides and in the back. I believe they also have outdoor seating, but it was pretty cold when we went, so we stayed inside. The layout feels lively but still comfortable. The menu isn't huge, but honestly, I appreciated that--it made ordering easy without decision fatigue. We started with the soup of the day, which happened to be clam chowder, and it was so good. Rich, comforting, and flavorful. For mains, my husband and I shared the mussels and the steak. Both were excellent. The steak was cooked perfectly medium rare--truly medium rare, juicy, tender, and spot-on. The mussels were also delicious, and I could've happily drank the broth they came in. Everything tasted incredibly fresh, and I believe a lot of their ingredients are farm-to-table or at least very thoughtfully sourced. Even the fries stood out--they reminded me of In-N-Out fries in that super-fresh way, but elevated. Service was another highlight. Our waiter was friendly, attentive, and took time to chat with us a bit, which made the experience even better. Overall, this is a place I'd absolutely come back to--no question. Have been to this restaurant 3 times. Two for dinner and once for happy hour and have never been disappointed. The main menu always has great food. My go to has been the steak frites. My wife usually changes it up depending on the menu but whatever she picks is always good. Recently went for the happy hour and will definitely coming back. HH oysters were such a good deal. Social Bird is a downtown Lafayette staple. Great food, excellent service, and a casual yet elevated atmosphere. The crowd is, well, Lafayette.... but we won't hold this against SB. It does get busy, and for good reason, so a resie is a good idea. They have outdoor seating both in the front and back of the restaurant. Perfect for when the weather is cooperative. There is a paid parking lot in the back as well. Ok, let's talk about the food! My recommendations are: -Oysters (they have HH) -Artisanal Cheeses -Grilled Prawns -Salmon Tartare -Mushroom Risotto (excellent!!) They also have a vegan menu, so extra points there. Excellent cocktails and a great wine list. Service is warm and friendly, particularly at the bar. The bar staff is stellar, and will make you feel welcome. Ok, a couple of 'opportunities for improvement'..... The lack of internet connectivity. The restaurant's WiFi is virtually unusable, and so is the cell service in the immediate area. PLEASE invest in reliable WiFi for customers. This is kind of a given in this day and age in any urban area. Second, less downer pop and more unce-unce music please. Think more Purple Disco Machine and Tiesto, and less John Mayer and Ed Sheeran in his depressed era. With these changes, this place would be a solid 100. But still a terrific spot in the East Bay. read more

Finally got to check this place out! Loved it so much, I went back twice in 2 weeks. The first time we went, we ordered the three cheese board & some drinks. We sat out on the patio which was pretty shaded and relaxing. The cheeses consisted of a blue, a Brie, & (I think) a Gouda, along with some nuts, dried fruits, jam, & sliced bread. SO delicious! The next time, we sat outside but in a different area along the walkway & it was equally as nice. The staff is very attentive, regardless of how busy the restaurant is. This time, we started off with the cheese board & drinks again, but also ordered the avocado bruschetta & split the vegan super food bowl. Loved the crispy onions on the toast! We had a dog with us so we asked if we could sit on their patio and they had plenty of options. They have a side and a back patio with ten tables on each side. There's a lot that you can pay for right next to the back patio or you can park for free in the garage beneath. Our food was such great quality. Dropped by recently for a late night dinner and had a great experience. The restaurant was winding down, yet our server was terrific and attentive throughout the meal, and the ambience was at just the right level of noise for us. We really enjoyed the their braised boneless short ribs which were succulent and topped with a rich gravy, along with sautéed mushrooms and herbs, and sitting on top of creamy polenta and accompanied by glazed sweet carrots. The portion size was good, and everything was seasoned well for our taste buds. Mary's Roasted Chicken was also a hit with crispy skin and moist, seasoned meat topped with herbs, along with roasted potatoes, sautéed spinach, and a celery root purée. I'm a Lafayette resident and have been a patron of Social Bird since it opened. This evening i had such a a negative experience at Social Bird I will never go there again. I met some friends for happy hour and we ordered fries then a few rounds of cocktails. The waitress came by and asked for our next order and we gave her our order - a manager ( I think ). then came out and said we would need to order more food or they would not be able to serve us. I've never been made to feel as unwelcome in a restaurant or bar in 50 years of life. I will never go back to this restaurant or any affiliated restaurant and I will spread the word far and wide to my community to avoid Social Bird. read more

But, I have to add that first walking through the restaurant on a busy weeknight was a lift in the right direction. My friend made a lunch reservation for five, to celebrate our belated birthdays, and we had such a nice dining experience here! I haven't explored much of Lafayette, so I was excited that this would be my first time in the area and trying out Social Bird. We were seated by the window to the right of entrance. I loved all the natural lighting coming from outside. The restaurant had such nice ambiance! We ordered a few appetizers, including truffle fries and the di stefano burrata. Both were delicious, well seasoned, and a great start to our meal. I ended up ordering the wild prawns and polenta bowl, which was warm, comforting, and exactly what I was craving during the rainy weather we were having that day. Friends of mine also ordered the braised short rib sandwich, and a salmon bowl which they equally enjoyed! Service was decent, but we honestly didn't need much. The server checked up on us a few times, and even discussed books and Fourth Wing with us, so that was nice! The restaurant was moderately busy when we came in, and with the delicious food and drinks, I could see how they would fill up quickly for a lunch or dinner rush. It's street parking for the most part, and we had to park a few blocks away since they're located in a downtown area. Just some things to keep in mind. She ordered a glass of wine, and we shared three dishes. We usually get the fries extra crispy but these weren't that great. Many were limp and just okay. The Korean fried chicken wings were good, but were not spicy at all. If spice is what you're looking for, ask for hot sauce. The avocado bruschetta looked great, but lacking seasoning so we ended up adding a lot of salt. Okay, so maybe the food here misses the mark at times but it's good so come on in!
