I reached out to Magic Maintenance for a quote on two relatively small jobs, a stucco patch and…read morere-staining a two-story stair banister. It took two weeks to receive the quote. While their quote for the stucco was fair, the estimate for the banister re-staining was completely out of line. They quoted $3,450 just for a re-stain. Our staircase has metal spindles mounted directly into the steps, there are zero wooden balusters, no wood shoe rails, and no stair treads involved. The entire scope consists strictly of wiping down, scuff-sanding, and staining the top handrail and three non-ornate newel posts. When I spoke with Victor to discuss the estimate, he tried to justify the $3,450 price tag by claiming the job would require "three days of labor" and tried to convince me that it was a lot of work to tape off the metal spindles and protect surrounding areas. When I voiced that the number was completely out of line for the actual scope of work, he just brushed it off. While the stucco quote was fine, the willingness to massively pad a basic handrail refinishing quote, and double down on it with absurd labor claims, left me completely uncomfortable doing business with them. If you're considering using Magic Maintenance, get multiple quotes and review the items carefully.
