    Great roadside sign

Finally tried the ice cream stand, now in its second full season. Hornstra Farms bought the Peaceful Meadows ice cream stand/dairy store/cow barn and pastures about 2 years ago ,freshly painted buildings, new silos, and finally a place to sit to enjoy fresh ice cream with the family. The dairy store carries their own brand of milk that has been delivered on the South Shore for years. It's so good it's near impossible to get a spot on their delivery route. The next best thing-drop in the store and pick up a gallon, pay the deposit for a glass bottle that defines and elevates the true taste of milk in your coffee, cereal, or poured into your own glass- mmm cold glass of milk. The service in the store is always friendly. They also offer a small selection of baked goods, farm fresh eggs and cheeses. Now for the ice cream, that's where they went from 5 to 4 stars. I loved Peaceful Meadows Strawberry Ice cream, Hornstra's strawberry ice cream is missing the chunks of fresh strawberries, huge and tasty, sweet and crunchy from the freeze of real ice cream. Please don't get this wrong, Hornstra's ice cream was right up there in freshness and taste, really misses the mark with not enough of the fruit that should be there. I'll definitely visit again and retry the strawberry ice cream. Hornstra is a must visit !

Eggnog in glass bottle ($2.50 deposit) or buy in clear plastic if you rather.

We down here south of Quincy had a bit of a "situation" this summer. The beloved Peaceful Meadows Dairy Farm went up for auction. Where would the cows go? Where would we get delicious homemadeice cream? Luckily, another dairy purchased the business, did some renovations, and restocked the retail store. We are all excited that Hingham-based Hornstra Farms has literally saved the farm! Reopening last week, the lines for ice cream are 25 deep, but I did get some eggnog in a nostalgic glass bottle--strawberry milk too! The store staff couldn't be friendlier and the shelves are stocked with fresh milk all kinds (chocolate AND strawberry too), half and half, eggnog, quarts of ice cream and huge loaves of cinnamon raisin bread great for French Toast. Run, don't walk! #buylocalsupportlocal #dairyfarm #localfarmers https://hornstrafarms.com/

The service was just okay. The girl we got was less than friendly. I got a sundae, and there wasn't much hot fudge or marshmallow at all.

Ask the Community - Hornstra Farms

Does your strawberry ice cream contain egg?

Yes, all of our ice creams have sugared egg in them.

Will the cows be back now that Hornstra has taken ownership?

The cows will be back once we have restored the fields and barns and fenced in the fields securely. Currently the barns and fields are not up to our safety standards for our animals.

Do they sell banana splits and lime Ricky's?

We sell Raspberry lime Ricky’s but not banana splits

You are stated with some garlic bread and oil which is tasty. Then we got a Greek salad to split (not pictured). The kitchen split it into two plates for us without even asking which was appreciated. I went with the bolognese and my husband a special. Our daughter loves the kids Mac and cheese and we joke that it's good enough for the adult menu too. The pasta is all homemade as is the sausage. A lot of Greek options and Albanian options. Always delicious always filling. The restaurant is always clean and is large but still feels cozy and intimate. During the summer the views of the golf course is an excellent backdrop behind the function room. A favorite we will absolutely be back to!

Fantastic dinner! I have zero complaints!…read more My husband and I came in on Friday night and sat at the bar. We started with the bread & oil, Albanian meatballs and french onion soup off the dinner specials menu. At first I wasn't sure about the taste/texture of the meatballs, but the more I ate, the more I liked them! The french onion soup was also legit and made with the "correct" ingredients for this dish. I would definitely order it again! For my entree, I ordered the rack of lamb off the dinner specials menu. Not only was the lamb a generous portion size with great flavor, the mashed potatoes and asparagus sides were delicious also! For dessert, we shared the chocolate peanut butter pie and big apple pie. Both were excellent but the apple pie was my favorite! I would recommend checking this place out for a great quality meal! :)

The place felt like the old place my dad used to buy 25cent chow mein sandwiches in my hometown. No decorations, old building. It's about grabbing a beer and eatting pizza. I like the simplicity. I did like that they offered to basically throw anything on a pizza: French fries, onions rings, shaved steak- whatever they got! We went with pepperoni and a linguica pizza. We always order bar pies laced and well done. Cooked to perfection. Good flavor. Just enough sauce. I like this place. Why not a five? I have tried about 20 bar pizza places and I just like a few other places better. I would say so far this place is in my 5th or 6th place ranking at this time. (I did laugh at the waitress explaining a salad without lettuce that's on their menu to another table.)

There were plenty of seats at the bar but we opted for a booth in the dining area. Look, this is a local dive bar catering to locals. You could come dressed in your pajamas. It's not pretentious There was a table of 12 local teachers all decked out in shamrock tees and Scally caps--always a good sign, and as a retired teacher, I applauded them still being out long after the school bell rang. But I digress. Service appeared to be provided by a mere two women working both sides. Getting their attention did take a few minutes, but we cut them slack. Once we had it, our server was very friendly and answered my questions as a Venus first-timer. I had a Down East hard cider (can, not on draught). We ordered the Greek salad and it was explained as a non-lettuce traditional. It was loaded with cukes, tomatoes, banana peppers, bell peppers, two kinds of onions, roasted red peppers, feta and olives. Table condiments consist of salt, pepper, packets of Parmesan & red pepper flakes. There are no real silverware or plates--all disposable with napkin dispensers on the table. I got a bacon with pineapple (tidbits not crushed) with burnt edges. My friend got an onion pizza cooked as per their usual. We very much enjoyed the pies. I think the bacon made mine a tad salty, and the sauce may be slightly on the sweet side. Pineapple didn't help my tastebuds in terms of discerning flavors. My crust and edges were perfection. Crispy and no flop. My friend's onion was actually the star--an assemblage of non-uniform onions sprinkled on top allowed me to taste the sauce more readily. I'm not ready to say for certain how other SSBPs compare, but I very much enjoyed my dinner. Had I the room, I would have ordered their plain cheese and pepperoni. Next time!
