Oh hell yeah! I've found my Denver bar. It helps that it's right around the corner from my house. I love it's grimey, naughty, sloppy, mellow feel. The staff is all capable. The drinks are poured strong. The pizza is good and better the later in the night it is. The couches...well, let's just not put these under black lights. Although I have been to Jonesy's Eatbar several times (of which I am a huge fan) I had never ventured next door into the Horseshoe Lounge until last night. I liked the comfy, cozy, retro, not-quite-divey, atmosphere. We grabbed a booth on the far wall. It was dimly lit . . . the kind of place one might gather to discuss nefarious plots. Our waitress appeared promptly. She was impressive, like a force of nature (seriously). She helped us make choices, brought drinks and food quickly, and was very friendly. We split a very respectable turkey sandwich (the Gobbler) with chips and some mini corn-dogs (10 wee doggies). This was nice finger food. We also had the Piggie Tots with cheddar and bacon. These delicious, greasy, filling gems are the "dark twins" of the fabulous fries available at Jonesy's. Although they are not quite in the same gastronomic league, they certainly hit the spot. There was a nice beer selection and my Dry Dock Apricot Blonde was cold and delicious. If I lived in the neighborhood, this could easily be my hangout. read more

Any first visit that involves a Yelp event is bound to be a positive one, but Horseshoe Lounge deserves this stars even without a Yelp boost. Had a good time at Yelp Office Hours here, meeting new people and chatting with a few I already knew. There are a lot of places to sit, but it doesn't feel overcrowded. The decor is fun: imagine Grandma's living room/yard sale leftovers/hipster den...with a shimmering gold & black paint job on one wall. The lounge chair in the ladies' room left us confused (there's only one toilet, so...) They have a good selection of liquors (some local whiskys and such) and good happy hour prices. Didn't try any of the food, but I'm sure I'll be back to do that soon! read more

Love this place. The bartenders are really great - no attitude, just good and friendly attentive service. If I lived in the area, I would be here weekly no doubt. It would be the place where everyone knows your name. The theme here is relaxed and friendly. They drinks are well priced and you don't even have to be there for happy hour to think you got a good drink at a good price. They have some good menu options that include pizzas and some "tots" combinations. The theme seems to be late 70s living room with a well put together groupings of sofas that accommodates a small group for genuine living room style conversation. Kind of the worst....but likely only tonight... we did get here a bit too late for kitchen time but we also apparently got here too late for napkins with our 'charcuterie board' ( see picture). That's still no big deal. Totally our fault. that's acceptable... I suppose, even if it is a cafeteria tray of shitty mustard and fatty ham. My biggest problem is 'half hair guy', our server, just some bro that works there.... Could not have ignored my table harder if he tried. He did enjoy some 'down time' at the table next to us, with his friends. I don't ask for much, but napkins for greasy finger foods and maybe a water would be nice. A bit insulting when your server comes out like 4 times, looks you directly in the eyes and turns away before acknowledging your existence any further. But the other bar tenders were worth going inside for, so I'll probably go again... I just know who to get service from now. read more

Comfort food, great drinks, zero pretension and a perfect place to meet friends and have a conversation!

This place is awesome! The drinks are wonderfully inexpensive, both during happy hour and not. There is always one really cool bartender and one ahole, but I think that is true of most downtown bars. The menu is primarily pizzas, so I took a pass on that and stuck with the brew. There are fantastic old couches around, the thrift store kind that you sit on and practically sink to the floor in. The lamps are wonderfully garage-sale-style and you really feel more like you are in someone's basement or garage than in a bar. Oh, and did I mention that there is a parking lot across the street that is only $1 to park after 6pm? SCORE! I love it! I will definitely be back! Heads Up: There is only one pool table, so you get to play if it just happens to be free, which is not often. And, expect to do a lot of "coughing" because the place will get pretty full and it will be difficult to get people out of the way to shoot. read more

I think my Aunt Eunice decorated this place. But it's cool - she had crazy weird style. The couches, booths, lamps and old school barrel seats are pretty dang kick ass. There's always room to perch but if there's a band playing the walls seem to move in very quickly. If there were a little bit more bar space for ordering drinks this place would be killer. But, when it's crowded there is very little wiggle room so claustrophobia may set in. However there's a cure - the back patio. While it's not huge the tall walls offer a sense of comfort. I don't know why but I dig it. Agave Wheat on tap is always a good thing so I usually go with that option. However, there are other great brews and the cocktails are pretty strong. I've seen many a drunktard in this place and yet the staff is so laid back they don't let the good vibe die because of some foolios. The location is great for those of us who like to walk, stumble or drag a friend. Bathrooms are small so beware. I really do like this place as a lounge when it's not super crowded. That being said I would suggest some solid afternoon drinking before the hood folks show up. read more

I was two steps into the place and the bar made of dice sold me. The rest of the place was pretty cool as well. The large backroom was full of recliners and couches, yet it was spacious and easy to navigate, even with a good number of cocktails. The room also has a couple of flat screens for those who want to keep tabs on the local teams. The jukebox was full of good music. I recall early nine inch nails and The Cure being played. Last, but not least, the blue collar rockabilly inspired staff, complete with sleeveless gasoline shirts, full sleeve tattoos, sideburns and snarkiness, keep the neighborhood crowd of young professionals in line. Of note: The food is terribly unhealthy, in a good way. If you're up to it I recommend the buffalo tots. They are a healthy portion of tator tots smothered in buffalo sauce with blue cheese melted on top. Your taste buds will love them. Your hips won't. read more

I came in over the weekend and had an awesome time with my friends later to find I had a credit card charge that was mistakenly baller status high. I stopped by the bar and talked with the staff who immediately apologized and said they would get it corrected ASAP. I got in touch with Mel the manager who also apologized and she went above and beyond by giving me her personal info in case I wanted to contact her in the process of the charge being corrected. Definitely the neighborhood favorite dive bar! The top of the bar is made of over 26,000 dice-pretty cool! They have a full menu, arcade games, board games, a pool table, and an outdoor patio space. The employees are super nice and down to earth. The drinks are a great price and the location is perfect for anyone that lives in Uptown. It's the only bar on that block so it feels a little secluded at night, which I like. I definitely plan on going back soon! read more

This is a great neighborhood bar. One of my favorite discoveries since moving to Denver. As I walked through the door for the first time, they were playing Biggie, so I knew I was in the right place. I KNOW I have to get over Biggie, but I nevertheless took this as a good sign. My instincts were right and I have been back a few times since. The Horseshoe has a great, chill atmosphere and a good crowd. There is a pool table, darts, and other games. They also have a good selection of beer and reasonable drink prices. Not only was this place dirty, but the drinks were incredibly overpriced and the bartenders were snobbish and rude. The shag carpeting looks like it's never even been washed, and I'm fairly certain everything in that place is remnant furniture from a western-themed casino, circa 1964. I even had to watch in horror as one of the sleazier bartenders served a girl drinks, even though she was slurring her speech and almost falling out of her chair while he kept offering to "drive her home". When I intervened, he told me that "I don't tell you how to do your job sucking dick on Colfax, you don't tell me how to do mine. You bother me again and I'm kicking you out". And I'd only had water. It took everything within me not to run screaming out of here. I am a _bit_ of a germaphobe. One look at the matted red carpet and I knew I was in trouble. I broke my own rule about only drinking out of bottles at dive bars (one BAD experience with a glass that had been 'cleaned' by a dunking in dirty water). I nearly passed out from my fight or flight conundrum. And, then I heard the band. "Is that Rocky Top?" The Vols may be an archy-enemy (Kentucky Wildcats are my only SEC love), but after three years of living in Tennessee, I have a soft spot for the song - especially when I am drunk. Well, it wasn't 'Rocky Top,' but it was some good, fun bluegrass. In Denver? No way!! There were banjos, mandolins, string basses and dulcimers. I couldn't believe my eyes and ears. I sat down on a metal folding chair (no way I was lounging on that couch) and got lost in the music and enjoyed myself. I even drank my beer - out of the glass! Just as I was marveling at the fact that I hit up two dive bars in two months, I noticed one of the band members was adorned in praise markers to the Dark One. I, promptly, remembered where I was, my OCD and my desire to not burn for all eternity and left. But, until I was scurred by the refrains of "Evil" & "Hell" (no joke), I had a good time. read more

This place called the Horseshoe seems to have an issue with gay people. So beware before entering as we were actually accosted and pretty much attacked both verbally and physically. We actually had to have help just getting out of the place without physical harm. The bartender was a woman that was of no help nor was the place in general when it really came down to like an out and out fight about being gay. We know Denver is not as progressive as some other cities when it comes to being openly gay, but if you are gay I would be dang careful walking into this place. Concerned openly gay customer... Thank you, thank you, thank you to the lovely bartendress who booted the rowdy Bulls super-fan on Sunday night so that we, as well as other patrons, could enjoy this (not)sports bar. No, this is not a sports bar, even though there are two TVs. It's a hang-out, and drink beer, and play pool, and eat tots bar. It's also in a cool area that's on the verge of becoming the next LoDo, but that's not their fault. The Tavern is just down the street (per the bartendress to the rowdy Bulls fan). I really like the atmosphere and the comfy seats in the back. I also like that it's a pleasant bike ride for us through a very lovingly restored area of Five Points. It's also from the folks who brought you Jonesy's, Barcar, and Stingray (I've which I haven't had the pleasure to go to yet). This lady should seriously open more bars, beginning with one by our house. The world needs more clever incarnations of tater-tots. Prices are not outrageous and they have daily specials. They also have a decent selection of local craft brews and Lone Star for the Texan boyfriend. The one downfall is the narrow patio in the back. It's pretty much a "smokers only" patio as it doesn't seem to have any other redeeming qualities. But hey, it's somewhere for them to go that doesn't involve me walking through a cloud of smoke to get inside. I'll take it. read more

I had never heard of Horseshoe Lounge, but ended up there on a Monday evening; little did I know I was stepping into what would become my new favorite bar in the city. Happy hour here is so good. $4 craft beers is pretty great, $2 PBRs for the stretch before pay day is even better. The bar serves all kinds of yummy snacks. I tried a pretzel with mustard and was so, so pleased. The open layout with plenty of booths is what really makes this spot great though. Lately there seem to be a lot of baseball caps here - indicative that our favorite neighborhood bar isn't quite as much as a dive as it used to be? You decide. Oh, and try the pepperoni pizza. I'm pretty sure I'm not part of the demographic the Horseshoe was created to serve, and yet when I went in there the other evening with my daughter, with tater tots being our primary motivation, I managed to have a decent time. I was in one of those sorts of moods where I looked around and thought about why I was years older than everyone else in the place, and not a drinker. Whatever. It was fine. I enjoyed the dice on the bar, the smooth cool bartenders, the friendly doorman, a refreshing cola with lime, and buffalo tater tots we shared. My daughter kept lamenting about bringing her mom to this place, as it's one of the places she sometimes goes to with her friends. I can understand that. My first time here was with the Yelpers after the GD elite event and I must thank our lovely CM, Tiffany, for ordering the buffalo tater tots! They are delicious!!! Then I realized on my next visit that they have a variety of flavors so make sure you ask! I think one of them is pizza tater tots?? Anyway, I was really happy with this place. The bartenders and the door guy are absolutely amazing and friendly. And no, they are not just nice to me because I showered them with Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, Laffy Taffy, and Nerds. This is because they are genuinely great...but I'm sure if you bring those three to the bar you're guaranteed to be in their good graces. It's simple. It's got couches. It's never totally empty, but it's very rarely packed to the gills. There's a pool table and a couch area to rival all couch areas. Horseshoe, you alright. The drinks here are good and I've never had any problems with the bartender being rude, plus, the crowd here, for the most part, is laid back and polite. There's no pretension in the air. The uptight suits from LoDo haven't made it this far into uptown and the sceney hipsters from Cap Hill have divier dives to drink at. Leaving nice, normal, down to earth people with a place to sit back, relax and enjoy a drink or two with friends. Also, gents, I don't know about yours, but the ladies' bathroom here is just about as luxe as you can get for a dive bathroom. I mean, there's a velvet chair in there, for crying out loud! I'm not really the gal who goes to the loo with her lady friends, but if I was, I sure would be thankful to have the world's most comfortable chair at my disposal in the women's bathroom while my friend went to the bathroom! read more

The Horseshoe is one of those bars that never goes out of style. Cheap drinks, friendly staff, decent food...it pretty much has everything you'd want in a bar. This is one of those places where you can really hang out for a few hours. You're not going to be putting down too much cash for several good, stiff drinks or quality beers. I also like their good an unpretentious food. It's not a gastropub like its sister-bar Jonsey's next door...it has tater tots for goodness sake! And really good tots actually, dressed up in buffalo sauce and blue cheese chunks. It's also a good crowd here. Busy but not crowded, a late 20s and early 30s mix of young professionals and adults that just haven't quite figured out what their profession is yet. So easy to just slip into a booth or grab the couches and watch the game or shoot some pool. One of the best bars in Denver to spend an excellent night with friends. read more

Walking into Horseshoe Lounge I was blindsided. I have gone to many a bar in Denver and like to think I know what makes a pub in the Mile High so spectacular.I didn't realize what I was missing as far as friendliness until I went here. In fact, I think my standard for friendly has been severly dulled by the masses of bartenders that ignore you when you walk in and mutely pour drinks without making eye contact. This small but comfy bar was all smiles. Stephanie, the bartender, asked our names when we walked in and boomed a friendly goodbye when we stood up to leave. I felt like I was visiting old friends. It may be less frilly and trendy than some of the other spots in Uptown but I will take a welcoming, friendly vibe over an expensive bar setup anyday. Oh and Whiskey Wednesdays? Can we say heaven?
