I just realized that I never posted my John's review from 2 years ago! Sorry guys! We're from California, and our used Honda has always had an issue with acceleration. We've spent lots of money at the Dealership back home trying to resolve the hiccuping it does whenever we accelerate. We're up here for a wedding and after 1500 miles, it was the worst it's ever been. We were afraid to drive it around town, let alone the drive home! John's took one day and significantly less than we'd ever paid in LA to fix the problem completely and permanently. *It's been 2 years now, and a car I thought would always hiccup has not hiccuped once since we got her back from John's. Great automotive service! The employees are highly knowledgeable, courteous, and professional. They are also direct, honest, and upfront, which I really appreciate. They will not sell you something that you do not need; but they will recommend the best approach for your car service needs. They are easy to schedule with and close to downtown Corvallis, which can offer places to go eat and drink while they work on your vehicle. They were so helpful to me because they installed an aftermarket oil pan and an aftermarket muffler in no time. Had me back on the road which is their whole goal. Very friendly staff from the front counter all the way back to the mechanic's bay. I'm a veteran and one of the mechanics placed an Army Duckie on the dash of my jeep. That really made my day! Being several hundred miles away, and having a college student in Corvallis who needed a car to commute to school, I needed an auto repair shop that could take care of a nonworking car quickly. I'm sure there are other recommended shops in the area, however, none of them could get me in for a week, John's scheduled me within two days and actually was able to start working on my car a day early. Had it fixed before noon (needed a new starter). After a few conversations with the shop, I can say everybody there is so friendly and accommodating and it seems like they really care about their clients! They gave me an estimate which did not inflate when it was time to pay, In fact, it was a little cheaper than quoted which was very refreshing. It has been my experience in the past that a rough estimate typically does not include some additional labor, taxes, and a few other extra charges. I would definitely recommend John's auto repair to anybody, hopefully we won't need them again soon, but if I do, we know who to go to! read more

My husband and I broke down on our way to the beach last week. We had a belt that had broken. We went to the closest shop which happened to be John's. The staff was very friendly and they were able to fix our car and we were on our way within a couple of hours. It was such a relief to find someone that could meet our needs so quickly. I give it 1 star because I had really bad experience with this shop. First time I had deal with this shop Is for my KIA(check engine light on), So I bring the vehicle to John and they fix it. The front lady don't even know how to smile it feels like I own her much money. The bad experience start 2 weeks later, my check engine light on again, and bring the vehicle to them they said it's the different problem,so they charge me anther bill and fix it. Well it's not the end, about a month later the engine light on agin, and I bring the vehicle to them ask if they didn't completely fix the problem. The front lady show me mad face and said it's just because my car have another problem. I spend a lot of money and time to fix the single problem that maybe could easily fix by other shop. read more

I went in with concerns about possible squeaky belt/breaks and was met with incredibly friendly and helpful staff. John checked both my car brakes and belt, explained everything to me in a way that was easy to follow (I don't know much about cars) and gave me sound advice that included all my options. It feels like a family environment that was genuinely looking out for my best interests and very receptive to any concerns I had. I would not take my car any place else. I have found them to be honest, knowledgeable, and resonably priced. I have been a customer for about 7-8 years. One example of why I love them - My car was making a scraping noise when I turned the wheel to the right. Took it to Les Schwab, they did some work, charged me about $350 dollars. As I turned out of the parking lot it was still making the noise. Took it to John's Auto the next day, they fixed the problem for $2.49. From that day, I have been a loyal customer. I had one small problem with some service they did, but they immediately made it right. I would reccomend this this business to anyone, but especially to women who know nothing about cars. I feel like I can take my car there and trust that they will fix what is wrong and not add on a lot of extras to inflate the price. read more

Think twice about John's: Had exhaust problem. They fixed it. Next time bought gas, checked the oil and when I opened the hood, they had left a fan belt sitting on top of the engine manifold. I didn't have any belts changed. Same job, they smeared what appeared to be transaxle or bearing grease all over the side of the car and also got it on the driver seat. Next time I took in, the vehicle had oil leak. They fixed and didn't do it correctly. I called and they looked at it again. I checked it after it was done and found it was still leaking and that a part in the engine was completely missing. I took it in again and mentioned the part was missing, and asked if they happened to still have it. John came out and looked and then accused me of lying about the part ever being on the car in the first place. I told him it had been there when I last changed my oil. He said that part had never been on the car when they had worked on it the past -- which had been almost 8 months prior. I found it odd he argued about a part that had nothing to do with the exhaust leak and would never have been even involved in that fix. I told him I was not accusing them of anything and only wanted to know if they had removed the part -- which made no sense for the oil leak -- and if they did, I just wanted it reinstalled. His response was that if that part ever really existed, that it must have fallen off. Finally, one of their fixes recently failed and this time I had access to a tools and a garage so I did the work myself. When I tried removing the part they installed, they had torqued on so tight that it had caused the fitting to crack -- which resulted in an oil leak. The part only required 18 pounds of torque. They had applied so much torque that I had to use a cheater bar and hammer to even get the thing to move. Would not recommend. read more

We have been taking our cars and trucks to John's Automotive for twenty years, at least. They go out of their way with customer service, honest and good work. I can stop by for the smallest thing and it will get checked out and I am sent on my way. In the past I have always hated trying to find a mechanic when there was something wrong with one of my cars and would drive my car away not feeling good about the experience, I have never felt that way with John's place. we will be taking our vehicles there until the end of time. read more

It should not cost $95 for an oil change. The staff seemed nice, but then it took almost four hours to do a half hours worth of work. And the charged me for four bottles of oil for a 4 liter engine? I'm no mechanic, but I don't think that's right. read more

The dealership wanted to charge us over $700 for a brake job with ceramic brakes. Johns did an awesome job with ceramic brakes, and ever reset our emergency brake because it was totally out of whack. We ended up paying about $400. Totally happy...and love the resident cat. Such a sweetie. read more

I've taken my car into John's auto for several years. it's an older model Mitsubishi....and John was kind enough to let me know that doing a major repair for it, may not be the best way to go. Instead, he fixed what was needed and gave me some great advice on how to extend the life of my car without making the major investment. They took great care of me and I appreciated his honesty. read more

With a little more info from my daughter about her car, the original diagnosis was provided free of charge. The original price she told me was a quote, she didn't actually have the work done, and after several texts we finally got to the crux of the problem which sounded to me like a fuel pump relay. One of the techs at Johns suggested that we try a fuel pump relay, so all were in agreement. The problem seems to be resolved. read more

I have been going to John's Automotive Repair for many years. I no longer live in Oregon but I still bring my 20 year-old car to John for all it's maintenance. He is a very experienced and good mechanic. I have always found John to be honest and not do anything to the car that isn't necessary.
