Located in a plaza, there are plenty of parking available. As you enter, it is a cozy size restaurant with limited seating. Ideal for a nice quick meal. The staff were really nice. Made it feel like an amazing small business that love what they do. The menu was small but has a nice selection of rice and noodles. We got the edamame and gyoza to start. I've only tried Hoshi Ramen through takeout so this review will be solely based off of those experiences. I've had the aloha spam musubi several times, it's convenient for on the go simple, but delicious. I've also tried the chicken karaage in which was honestly just okay. It's definitely prepared differently than other restaurants for sure. That being said, the main reason for writing this review is for their chicken katsu curry I got tonight which was absolutely fantastic. I forgot to take a picture as I was too busy devouring the food. The katsu was perfectly crispy on the outside while staying juicy and tender inside, and the curry itself was really flavorful without being overly thick or heavy. I've been craving curry and It hit that comforting, balanced curry vibe just right. Even through takeout, the quality came through, and that katsu curry alone is dangerous. For my ratings, I like to compare apples to apples, so this rating is within the context of ramen houses, not restaurants in general. This is a very small restaurant, might accommodate 15 adults. Their menu has a few Japanese selections beyond ramen. We ordered ramen, though. I got the Dan-Dan and my H got the curry. The Dan-Dan was made "dry". That is, with just about 6oz of flavorful, slightly sweet blazing hot broth in the bottom, topped with a bit of spinach and green onions, then ramen noodles, then a big pile of spicy ground chicken in a mound on top. Along the sides were the split flavored egg, a tiny head of bok choy and a small square of nori. The flavors were authentic -- a complex combination of soy, ginger, chicken broth, sugar, and Sichuan pepper. Lots of it. I ordered mine "medium" spicy and I'm pretty tough. I asked for water in addition to my hot green tea. The tea was HOT. I needed some time before I could even pick it up. Speaking of beverages. Why oh why do Asian restaurants love to serve carbonated soft drinks in cans. Then charge $3. Doing the math: that's $2.50 I spend for a glass of ice and a can that can't be refilled. Looking around the place I see most of the guests are drinking water. How much revenue do they lose by not offering a variety of decent soft drinks. No. No boba for me. How about iced tea at least? Back to the ramen... if you don't care for the numbing effect of Sichuan pepper, the Dan Dan is not for you. I loved it and tried to eat it all. My H commented that his curry ramen had rich curry flavor and lots of tender chicken slices. It was served blazing hot. He had to wait a while to eat it. But when he did, he ate it all. I'm not complaining about how hot everything was; indeed it contributed to the authenticity. If you visit Japan, you'll find they're into hot. Hot food, hot showers, hot bidets. Yep. When we were eating, three guys came in to pick up to-go orders and one very courteous lady waited the tables. We have eaten at Taiyo and a few others around TO and Camarillo. I can say, this is the most authentic and IMHO, the best value with prices at the low end and protein at the high end. I actually left full and didn't get hungry an hour after leaving. read more

Very good little Ramen restaurant, the waitress was very attentive and helpful, I really liked the decor inside and the lighting was perfect. I ordered the hot green tea, the chicken curry Ramen with added coconut milk, and for dessert the chocolate mochi . The Ramen was really good tasted fresh and was perfectly cooked. The broth was good, very mild spiced with a beautiful curry flavor and lightly salted ( I added a touch of soy sauce to my liking ) I loved all the fresh toppings , very delicious and I will definitely be back to try more ramen options ! I liked the service and the food. A nondescript little place. But big flavor. There was a few tables and chairs, but it didn't feel too small or crowded. I ordered the Brussels Sprouts off the appetizer list. The sesame seeds were a good touch. I also got the Veggie Yakisoba. Had a sweet teriyaki flavor and the vegetables seemed fresh. The chicken katsu is to die for!!! I was craving for some Japanese curry and so glad they have it in their menu. Huge portions even the menu says "bowl" at the end. The plate came with the curry separated in a small bowl. I soon smothered the katsu and rice the way it supposed to come but I like their style. The curry had just the right amount of spice. It was creamy and savory. I easily grabbed one shrimp tempura and married it with the curry. The chicken katsu was one of the best katsu I ever had. It was juicy, crispy and tender. I enjoyed it! Why drive to Sawtelle, Gardena, and Little Tokyo when you live in Ventura county. My wife and.son have their ramen and they had big smiles. The chicken karaage was unique. The Ramen was excellent, service was fantastic as well. The restaurant is very intimate and extremely loud. It's difficult to talk as everyone speaking is speaking loudly and it bounces off the walls. The restaurant is next door to a convenience store and people smoke and hang out and it smells really bad. Luckily it does not come into the establishment. They have tables and standard chairs, no booths but it was comfortable. I gave them 5 stars as they were amazing and on top of everything. They don't have any control over the sound level or the store next door, I just wanted to point that out. read more

My son and I were craving ramen and decided to give Hoshi a try after reading some reviews. Not only is their ramen delicious, but their service is attentive and friendly in this cozy little hole in the wall. My go-to orders are the miso glazed Brussels sprouts and the Hokkaido coconut ramen, but I also love the spicy miso ramen, the tonkotsu ramen, or the tantan ramen! Their dishes are super fresh and I find myself eating there almost once a week. For a little town with less than 45000 people, it's a little gem and definitely worth checking out when you are craving some comfort food. read more

Went here for a sat night dinner for 4. It's a tiny place, busy. Service was quick and nice. We had: 1. ramen: it was fine, a little small for the price. 2. takoyaki: it was ok, I don't think it was homemade. 3. enoki mushrooms: WAAY too much butter. The first bite is great, couldn't eat much more after that. 4. chicken kaarage: was ok. 5. fried rice: not bad for a ramen place. Good portion size. 6. gyoza: This was my biggest complaint. From our table, we could see the open kitchen. I saw the cook open a frozen bag of gyoza to cook our dish. It took a long time... I would definitely pass on the gyoza - not worth the price. I work from home and my HQ is in the midwest, so there are no considerations for lunch. I know that if i get a 30m break, it takes me 8 minutes to get there, 14 minutes to eat and 8 to get back... We were in the mood for noodles n we just ordered their normal tonkotsu ramen n the spicy version. Noodle and broth (especially the broth) were cooked perfectly, just the right amount of salt. I went to this place with a group of (8 total) and everyone really liked their dishes. Most ordered something different from the other so there was a lot of cross tasting going on. Great ramen and curry all the way around. The woman in charge immediately said 'no problem' when I entered and advised how large the group was. I can't believe it took us this long to finally visit this new ramen place and it definitely lived up to the expectations. We ordered 2 appetizers and a yuzu drop meow-tini to start, followed with katsu chicken curry udon and Hokkaido coconut ramen. The food came quickly (we were the only customers here cause they just opened) and they did not disappoint at all. The Brussels sprouts cooked perfectly, crunchy and seasoned well. Enoki mushroom tasted even better than I imaged, love the sauce and the crunchy garlic chips on top, so good! I like my katsu chicken curry udon as well. Katsu cooked perfectly and is still crunchy even dipped in the curry soup. And did I say the meow-tini tasted great as well? Perfect ratio of fresh yuzu juice and alcohol and not too sweet. Hoshi Ramen took over the old Vegan Thyme, so it's a fairly small spot. I'm always in hunt for a great ramen spot in the 805, so I was so happy a new one came along. Menu was very simple, a very nice variety. We got the calamari rings, salmon yakisoba, and the tan tan ramen with add in Brussels sprouts. Calmari rings were just ok, nothing too wow. Salmon yakisoba had great flavor and a good portion. I liked the shishito peppers and the eggplant, that was an interesting combination but worked very well. However, I also agree with the other reviews, my tan tan ramen is a little bland, I would like more creamy and umami flavor. I couldn't finish my ramen, since it was lacking in flavor. Maybe my next time back, I'll try another broth and update my review. read more

Craving ramen again! This time we found Hoshi Ramen! Great little ramen spot if you're in the Newbury Park area. We ordered the Tonkatsu ramen, Spicy miso ramen, Spicy eggplant Yakisoba, and Okonomiyaki. All the food was delicious! The broths were very tasty, soft boiled egg was done well and not overcooked, and noodles were just right with that bit of chewiness! The Okonomiyaki is a must try if you haven't had it before, we especially liked the bonito flakes that gave it that umami flavor. It was a little small, but it is an appetizer. The Spicy eggplant Yakisoba was very tasty and I added chicken for some protein. The waiter and service was great, very attentive. So happy to have another local ramen gem in the 805. I was eagerly awaiting Hoshi Ramen to open in Newbury Park as I recognized their menu and such from another spot I frequent for good bites on the other side of town. Found out and confirmed today by my server that they are the same owners as Tsuki ramen and Roast and Rice in Westlake Village. I feel super lucky that this spot is even more convenient and closer to where I live, a win win. The restaurant itself is unassuming so you definitely need to be looking for it to know it's there. Located near Azars it was easy to find but again, had I not been seeking this place out it could have taken me awhile to find. Hopefully word of mouth spreads as this spot is great!
