The Ajitsuke Tamago was cold, but its temperature was inconsequential due to its overpowering saltiness that dominated any other flavors. This Tonkotsu ramen is possibly the worst I have ever tasted. The pork broth lacked depth and character and aside from the Ajitsuke, the noodles, a few green onions, and a single dried seaweed leaf (nori) that was the dish. I was surprised that even the ramen was cooked incorrectly. Fortunately, the Thai Ice tea was enjoyable, as my taste buds became irritated from the excessive salt. I gave the experience a two star only because the service was nice. I had en emergency with my iPhone and I was allowed to charge it, so as far as customer service that was good. First dining experience at Taiyo Ramen and we were pleasantly surprised with our meal and experience. It's a nice Japanese restaurant in TO. Food: The menu was simple yet descriptive. Kind of wished there was a kid's menu to offer smaller portions. But it covered many of the Japanese dishes we usually enjoy. You will get a lot of food with your entrees and it is definitely worth the price. The takoyaki is good, but beware they top it with a slightly spicy sauce. The Spicy Miso Ramen is tasty but not as spicy as I was hoping for. And the standout of the meal was the chicken in the Chicken Katsu Curry Rice. The chicken is fried perfectly and maintains its form and juices. It was crispy, flavorful, and very tender. Service: The staff seated us immediately on a Saturday evening. It was not busy, so they checked on us very regularly and were patient with our ordering being that we were first timers. Ambiance: The restaurant is a very comfortable hole in the wall and surprisingly nearby the beautifully The Lakes of TO. It is a gem in this small shopping center and does not make you feel like you are eating at a commercialized restaurant. It is a great and intimate restaurant. Very tasty ramen here. Service is nice and helpful. They usually have dragon ball z playing if your into that. It's a smaller place but I've never had trouble getting seated. I go with the spicy miso ramen and add broccoli. I usually add chili paste or siracha to get that extra kick. Everything in it is great. The pork, the egg, and most importantly the ramen! Came here for lunch on a Thursday around 11 am. The entire restaurant was empty of customers up until lunch hour began. It got suddenly more crowded but there were still tables open. The employees seemed friendly and quick. The person helping us took down our order with ease and brought out the food within minutes. I decided to get the tantan ramen while my friends got the chicken katsu curry rice and the veggie ramen with shoyu broth. The flavor of every dish was pretty decent, not the most amazing or flavorful but for the price, pretty good. The quantities were pretty large and none of were able to finish our entire meals. The broths of the ramens weren't too salty and were savory enough for me to be satisfied. Both came with plenty of vegetables and I was pleased with the amount of ground pork and the WHOLE egg in mine. The katsu was crunchy and flaky and it's nice they automatically put the curry on the side for you to dip or pour as you please. Overall not a bad choice for lunch. Tonight's dinner was takeout from this little Ramen shop on TO Blvd. I ordered the veggie ramen with miso while my hubby ordered the chicken ramen. Extra charges to mention were for both ramen bowls, 2.00 each for a baby bok choy and a .50 charge for each take out order. The bowls were full of ingredients although compared to other ramen that I have had, the flavor was on the bland side. Could barely taste the mushrooms and the ramen itself had little flavor. I did not taste the chicken ramen although my hubby reports that the chicken was very tender. He also ordered the veggie gyoza which he enjoyed as well as the Yakisoba noodles, with steamed tofu. I oughta add, this is a man who likes leftovers. On the good side, no MSG is used in any of the food sold here. Disappointing and Overpriced - Not Worth It I used to love this place, but after my recent visit, it's officially off my list. After getting my blood drawn, I decided to stop by since I was in the area and craving a comforting bowl of ramen. Unfortunately, what I got was anything but comforting. Taiyo Ramen is located in a plaza with very limited parking since the lot is shared with other businesses so my sister and I parked in the back mini lot. We were seated immediately on a Thursday early evening for dinner. My sister ordered the spicy miso ramen and I got the spicy veggie ramen (I love corn in my ramen and if I got any other one, it would be an additional $2 LOL). We shared an appetizer to start with the takoyaki (Japanese octopus balls). The takoyaki has a nice crispy layer outside and soft chewy filling inside. The sauces and the pickled something were delicious paired with it. My sister liked the shredded cabbage together with it. Our ramens came out afterwards and goddamn, I really underestimated how spicy it was! I do enjoy a good kick but I could only eat half of my ramen because of the intense fire burning in my mouth with every bite and slurp. My sister also felt the intense fire burning in her mouth too but was able to devour it all. We needed our waters refilled but dinner time got really busy and packed inside the small restaraunt and it was hard to flag a waiter down. By the time we did more water (we asked twice to two different waiters and the second one was on it), we already were ready for the check and a to-go container for my leftover ramen. Maybe it was an understaffed night or a very popular dinner spot for ramen lovers but service could have been a little more attentive. Came for ramen on a Monday evening. I walked in and there were several tables that were open at 6 pm. They did get busier as the night went on so there may be a wait if you get there closer to 7 pm. I was having overnight stay at Thousand Oaks and found this place was nearest Ramen restaurant to where I stayed. Myself ordered Tonkotsu Ramen - considering me have been trying hundreds of Ramen, so I can tell the soup is not from the bones that has been boiled for hours where any Tonkotsu should be, so it was bland BUT with looking at price point with having seasoned egg and thick chunk of pork, this is generous portion that you rarely find. While my husband ordered Yakisoba Noodle - served in massive portion with lots of thick chicken slices, taste is mediocre, needed more sauce to kick your tongue in. Found Taiyo Ramen today and it was excellent. I had been wanting to come here for awhile now and I found myself in TO for an early lunch so I knew it was my chance to give them a try. Similar to what others mentioned, Taiyo could be easy to miss as it's off the busy main drag and in a rather small shopping center. My GPS honestly had me turn early and miss it. Not too hard to find but you need to keep your eyes peeled. Also the only other bummer as others noted is the parking is super busy and I almost couldn't find a spot at 11:30am. Not the restaurant's fault but I could see where it could be a challenge to find parking at lunch rush or on the weekends, I only luckily snagged a spot while 4 other cars were wizzing around the lot trying to get one. The restaurant itself is very small but cozy and inviting. The atmosphere is perfect for a warm bowl of ramen. I like the smaller restaurants as they are more intimate and don't give such a sterile feel. Again, super welcoming, clean, and a good amount of tables despite being small. Service was also 5 stars - very friendly. My order was taken quickly & accurately. My food came out fast which was great for a quick lunch. Everyone that works here is very nice and I'd happily want to continue to give them my business. Ramen: I ordered the Tan Tan Ramen (which isn't my go to) but I was feeling adventurous. I usually like a creamier tonkotsu broth but decided I really needed to judge this spot on something outside of my comfort zone. I was pleasantly surprised as the Tan Tan was hearty, delicious, and so flavorful. The broth and noodles were both cooked to perfection - sometimes it's hard for places to get both right but they definitely have stellar ramen here. The ground pork was also a nice change and the eggs were perfectly cooked and flavorful. First time here. Have had this placed bookmarked forever and finally got to try and it was excellent! We ordered two types of ramen, the spicy tuna bowl (no photo) and takoyaki (no photo). The takoyaki is VERY good. It had great meat to batter ratio and the sauce on the outside wasn't too sweet or spicy. The spicy tuna bowl is good but wasn't super sticky rice and it was a lot of rice vs spicy tuna so we ended up putting rice into our ramen as well, which is another great way to eat more delicious broth. The tantan ramen is packed with toppings. I got an extra egg with mine because I missed that it already had an egg. This is the ramen to get if you're hungry or like lots of stuff in your ramen. I did not try the tonkatsu ramen but my bf said it's quite buttery and good.
