We've been going to Chompie's on 32nd Street for years now, usually whenever we end up getting work done at Discount Tire nearby. At this point it's basically tradition. One thing I appreciate about Chompie's is that it feels comfortable instead of trendy. Good booths, relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff, and a menu that's massive enough that you can keep trying different things without getting bored. Over the years I've had everything from the Jewish Sliders to the Reuben, Monte Cristo, Five Town Special, Buffalo Chicken Sandwich, Lox and Loaded, and the Scottsdale Breakfast Sandwich. Honestly, I don't think I've had a bad meal there yet. My wife's favorites are the Half Chicken, Bronx Brisket Dipper, and the Holy Pierogi if she wants something lighter. She also absolutely loves their pickles. Pro tip: if you ask, they'll bring out extra pickles for free, which immediately scores points in our house. One underrated thing there is the coleslaw. We almost always get slaw instead of fries now. The fries are perfectly fine, but the slaw is weirdly excellent and fits the deli vibe better anyway. The coffee also deserves a mention because it's legitimately excellent diner/deli coffee. Rich, hot, flavorful, and it somehow fits the place perfectly. They actually roast the coffee on site, which honestly surprised me the first time I found out because most people probably just assume it's standard restaurant coffee. It's not. Sitting in a booth with good coffee while waiting on tires nearby has kind of become part of the whole experience for us. The only real downside to Chompie's is that some sandwiches are so oversized they become difficult to eat without half the contents trying to escape out the back side. Honestly though, that's a pretty easy problem to forgive when the food tastes good. Phoenix may not have true East Coast deli culture, but Chompie's feels like one of those places that has genuinely become part of local life. Reliable comfort food, good service, and the kind of restaurant you end up returning to for years instead of just once for social media photos. read more

By way of full disclosure, I'm a New York Jew, so my standards for a Jewish Deli are astronomically high. I've never found a deli outside the NY area that meets NY standards, and the farther from NY, the less they do. Phoenix friends had told me about Chompie's, so while here on business I decided to try it. I'm not sorry I did, but it was only so-so. Food was OK - the corned beef was very fatty, but I don't object to that, but not much flavor. Cole slaw was good. I've never had to ask for pickles at a JD before, but this was a first. Server was a nice young woman, who really needs to be taught how to serve, down to not bringing a spoon with a cup of hot tea. Cheesecake was Sara Lee quality. Ambiance was OK, though I was there early (5 pm) and it could get noisy of it's crowded. Sorry, Chompies. A good try, but no prize. read more

While the restaurant was not particularly busy, I found the service to be a bit slow. Regarding the menu, I would love to see more coffee selections available; I tried the caramel and vanilla iced coffee, but found it to be just okay. A gem! I've only purchased their bagels in the grocery store. I didn't realize there was an actual New York style deli in Phoenix. I was pleasantly surprised to find this location. Also this location has a market area where you can take desserts, bread and order bagels and sandwiches to go. The service was excellent, very attentive. I opted to sit at the bar and I noticed it was a bloody Mary bar. The ambience was fun and casual. I opted to sit at the bar and my server Chris was very busy, but efficient and friendly, I had a half portion of a rare roast beef sandwich, and it was almost like a full sandwich. This bagel shop is definitely more than your typical grab-and-go spot. It's a pretty large space with a mix of retail and dining, there's a full restaurant style seating area on one side and smaller, more casual tables on the other. They also sell a variety of merchandise, which gives it a unique, almost market style feel. I ordered the cinnamon raisin bagel with cream cheese, and my son tried the Camelback chorizo. Both were flavorful. They were also offering pretzel samples while we waited, which was a nice touch and the pretzels were warm and really tasty. Overall, the food and atmosphere were solid, but the service could use a bit of improvement. Service was slow despite there being plenty of staff in the back chatting, and after placing my order while I was still at the counter, I asked for a cup of water and was told by the cashier to go to another person to order it. There was only one person behind me, so it felt unnecessary and not very customer friendly. It's a small detail, but those moments can impact the overall experience. read more

We've been meaning to come check this place out for a while as we've seen it and heard people talk about it but have never actually been to one. It was a pleasant experience. The restaurant was clean and well lit with murals and art on the walls. I enjoy when a space has character and this definitely did. The menu was straight forward and had a lot of good options. We were seen by a waiter quickly and our orders came out quickly. We enjoyed our food. My ham and Swiss on rye grilled cheese really hot the spot and I loved the fries too. After eating we went to check out the bakery and deli cases and the little gift shop. They had really nice options and some fun mugs for that friend with a good sense of humor. Went with a bunch of friends last Sunday afternoon. It was dead. I was used to how busy it was a few years ago so I'd made a reservation. Lucky I didn't need the reservation because they acted as tho our large table was a complete surprise. They had to move tables together for us. Our server was extremely pleasant but sooooo sloooow. I finally said I didn't want my bar drink because I was tired of waiting. I ordered the tuna melt, was not as good as it used to be. Everyone else seemed satisfied with their order. I always used to choose Chompies over Miracle Mile Deli because of their superior menu and food but I may have to reconsider. Something seems to have changed but not for the best. read more

My sons 14th birthday was coming up and I noticed one day in Fry's that Chompie's was selling cakes and wondered if you could order a fresh cake from their store. Sure enough they had made to order cakes, so I placed an order a week in advanced for a white cake with chocolate frosting and a golf theme (since we were going to TopGolf). I actually spoke with the baker and we confirmed all details. When I arrived on Saturday morning to pick up the cake they could not locate it anywhere. They called the baker and he somehow got the day mixed up. Thankfully the party wasn't until 6pm so they said the baker would come in and make the cake and they could have it ready by 2pm. When I returned at 2pm the cake was ready and they made sure to tell me the baker had to come all the way in to make it, which is nice but um ok. Also I realized it was vanilla frosting and not chocolate like I specified but I didn't say anything cause there was a little chocolate. The written happy birthday was small and a bit sloppy but correct at this point I had no choice but to take it. Unfortunately the cake was terrible when we finally ate it and tasted like nothing but sugar, even the kids didn't like it. First let's start off with what works here: Food! Chompies as a local deli chain is the closest to a traditional NY deli. Plenty of other solid ones back in Chicago, but out here there are just a few. Then we go to locations: Tempe was our first one, but they closed. Chandler followed as our next go to place when we lived in East Valley. Now in this part of town, this new location is the closest, but probably the worst in terms of service. Today's visit was the last straw. Bakery: Line almost out the door at lunch time and only one person working the counter. Took 5 min for a 2nd person to show up and handle coffee and counter service. Asked to bring Challah to an event, I immediately thought of this place. What I didnt realize when I got here is a BAKERY sells challah/bread baked and packed on 2/22 and 2/24 on 2/27! I expect a bakery to sell FRESH baked goods, not previously baked and frozen goods. Service: Not a single smile and nothing but attitude at the counter. This is the last time I am coming to this location, will drive to Shea or just go NY Bagel next time. So 4/5 Stars for general deli food and sandwiches, 1 Star for bakery service and "baked" goods. read more

I've been a Chompie's fan for almost two decades since I moved to Arizona... I've eaten in, taken out, and hosted some events with food provided by their catering team over the years too. This review is specifically about my most recent catering experience, however. I have to give a big shoutout to Amalia from Chompie's catering team... I called about a week or two prior to my event and we planned a menu for a Sunday brunch I was hosting at my house. Amalia was super personable and attentive and offered recommendations on the perfect menu... She followed up via email and after a couple of back and forth emails, we finalized the order. It included a large nova platter, assorted bagels and cream cheese, the fixings including lettuce, tomato, onions, cucumbers, and olives, a salad sampler with tuna salad and egg salad, a large fruit platter, a mini black and white cookie platter, and coffee. Chompie's uses a delivery service, so all of the above was delivered to my house and the woman who did so helped me set it up. It worked out perfectly... all of our guests enjoyed and we had plenty of leftovers to munch on as well. I will absolutely continue using Chompie's for future catering needs. Came here after doing some fishing to have breakfast. For it being Sunday the place wasn't crowded. This restaurant is always kept clean and their servers are always accommodating. Service was really poor. One associate serving so many customers and he was nowhere to be found so had to wait a long time before we could even order. They discontinued making there best chocolate mousse pastry and now it's a thick blob of chocolate and not the same. The 7 layer pastry was so hard and on the drier side. Coffee was also just okay, nothing to rave about. They have a lot of good stuff but they should not modify there recipes and surprise customers as chocolate mousse pasty was one of there best sellers and delicious. I had one of the worst takeout experiences I've ever had at Chompie's. I placed an online order Sunday at 5:25 PM for a roast beef sandwich and coleslaw. The system said it would be ready in 10 minutes. I even showed up late--about 10 minutes after the promised time--to give them extra buffer. When I walked in, the girl behind the counter casually said, "just 5 minutes, we're really busy and the kitchen is behind." That would make sense... except the restaurant was practically empty. There were maybe 3 tables occupied, all with small groups. Easily 90-95% of the place was wide open. Five minutes later: "any minute now." Then I see her go to the kitchen and come back saying they don't even have my order. She asks if it might be under another name. No. It wasn't. Then--unbelievably--she asks me again what I ordered and what I wanted on the sandwich. So at this point, it's clear the order was never even started. A few minutes later I hear "oh, I found it," and then another wait while they actually make the food. I finally got my order at 6:05 PM--40 minutes after ordering and 30 minutes after the promised pickup time--for a simple sandwich and coleslaw. What's worse than the delay is the constant lying. "5 minutes." "Any minute." "We're really busy." None of that was true. Just be honest instead of stringing customers along. I wasn't even a one-time customer. I ordered dinner here about once a month and bought bagels every week for work--12 bagels weekly for the last two years. That ended last night. They didn't just mess up an order--they lost a loyal customer. I won't be back, and I'll be making sure others know about this experience. read more

So, I finally checked out that huge place everyone's been talking about - wow, it's a monster! I'd heard so much about it, I had to see for myself. You know how sometimes you see a picture of a sandwich, piled high with meat, and then you get it and it's... not quite the same? Well, this wasn't one of those times! I ordered half a pastrami on rye, and seriously, the pastrami was AMAZING. There was SO much of it - I couldn't even finish it all! It was incredibly generous. My only tiny little nitpick? It could have used a bit more zip in the flavor department, and there was just a tad more fat than I usually prefer. I'm a bit of a lean meat fanatic, I guess! But honestly, that's a super minor complaint. Overall, it was a fantastic sandwich, and I'd definitely go back. Highly recommend checking it out! One thing I love about Chompie's is that you can still order quite a bit from the walk up deli/bakery side. My husband and I love to get an everything bagel and egg and bacon. We also always get a side of chive cream cheese. They have the best chive cream cheese in our opinion. The ratio of chives is done well. The reason for the four stars was that we were waiting in line by the sign and the cashier asked the guy who just walked up and was looking in the case if he could help him. I made eye contact with the cashier and he didn't even seem phased. The other issue is that I tried to put my reward number in and the cashier was so quick to end the transaction that I couldn't. She said, "oh sorry, well next time you can get your points". I was a little bummed and asked for the receipt hoping I could put it in after the fact. Unfortunately, I couldn't. They have a great rewards program that gives you 2pts for the $ and a birthday deal as well. Other than those little issues, the food was promptly prepared once we ordered and it was tasty. The deli area has a nice little seating area where you can eat quickly and be on your way. We will be back. I will remember next time to ask about the rewards before my card is taken. read more

Great place where it is huge compared to the one on Shea and 92nd. The food is always yummy. Had their half a pastrami and cup of Chicken with Matzo ball soup. They always pile the pastrami so high that you just have open your mouth WIDE. My wife had the whole pastrami sandwich on rye and brought half of it home. Our server was okay you had to ask for the pickles which normally comes when you are seated. Anyway, we love this venue. Bought some cookies, bagels and apple turnover which were oh so good. read more

This location includes the ability to order for pick up if you're on the go or you can eat in the restaurant since they have a dining area. They also offer a ton of pastry options, bread, bagels, and little kitchen or miscellaneous items for gifts. The service was a little rude this last time I went, like the staff was in a bad mood or something but it's not the norm. Usually a good spot overall. First time here and wow this place is so cool, has a coffee shop and store with all these amazing pastries. The chocolate cake was amazing and so was the eclairs. We sat at the bar and had a mimosa flight. The onions straws were great and a big size. The fish and chips were fantastic and pretty big fish pieces. This was my first (and last) time at Chompie's. The short girl with faded pinkish-purple hair had a serious attitude problem. My mom and I came in just to order a dozen bagels and cream cheese, and she acted like we were inconveniencing her by ordering. She kept rolling her eyes and sighing as my mom chose her dozen-mind you, there was no one else in line, and the place wasn't busy. To top it off, when she checked us out, she put the cream cheese (which was sitting on the counter) inside the bag of bagels, right on top of them. Not exactly sanitary. Overall, just a bad vibe. She completely killed the experience with her attitude and lack of professionalism. Definitely won't be back-and I'd recommend management take a look at how she's representing the place. read more

When she brought our check, I said to her I thought we would be getting some type of a discount and she replied oh I should've asked my manager. Sorry.
