From the moment we arrived, we were greeted at the door with a huge smile and seated immediately, even though the place was super busy. Our server was wonderfully bubbly, friendly, and gave great recommendations. I ordered the Al Pastor hash, and the unique combination of flavors was absolutely amazing. The owner even stopped by to check on us, making us feel genuinely welcome. My wife and I enjoyed our experience so much that we even bought some merch on our way out! Another great meal at OBH! Came back again since we were in Phoenix. We arrived Friday around 7am. We were seated right away. Our waitress was super sweet. I ordered the Loco Moco, my husband ordered the linguica and cheddar scramble with hashbrowns and sourdough toast, and we got the granola and banana pancakes to share. The loco moco was good, but it lacked a little salt. My husband liked his scramble. And the pancakes were good. A little dry, but with some syrup they were delicious. The portions are huge. The raspberry crème crepes were nice because they're not as heavy as pancakes but still filled that sweet craving I was having. OMG-how did we ever find hidden gems like this when traveling before review sites like this! As we drove north I couldn't really remember why I jotted this spot down for breakfast as it seemed a bit out of the way-but once we arrived inside, it was clear. This surfing theme breakfast joint run by a retired surfer from Cali who reported being in the restaurant business for over 50 years when I chatted with him. (Hint he's the tall retiree wearing a Hawaiian shirt and checking in with everyone). The menu has an endless list of almost every breakfast concoction imaginable from buttery flakey biscuits, pancakes, cinnamon rolls eggs and a host of Mexican specialties, chicken and waffles as well as other items. Judging from all the benches outside, there's probably a wait at times to get in although on a Monday at 8 am we got a cozy booth without a problem. It was still busy but no wait at that time. Staff is friendly and food comes out quickly. My raspberry cream crepes were a nice change of pace and my wife was pleased to be able to just order 2 poached eggs with avocado and a biscuit. The OBH is one of my absolute favorite restaurants in Arizona. On the weekends you will notice that there is typically a wait which lets you know just how good it is as it is worth the wait!! Every time I've gone for either breakfast or lunch, I have never been disappointed with anything I've ordered. I usually purchase a couple of pastry items to go on my way out as well. The homemade pop tarts and lavender scones are my favorites. The sign outside says it all; "Aloha." This is a good way to describe the interior & vibe. This place is so great! Yelp Squad ty for guiding us to this delightful destination for our final meal before heading back to Vegas. As we walked in we were greeted by a smiling gentleman who directed us to the hostess stand where an equally wonderful young hostess lead us to a table immediately. They offer FRESH SQUEEZED OJ which my husband got and he couldn't even remember when the last time he had fresh OJ bc you never come across this special delight. My husband devoured his meal. He's Filipino and knows his rice which would be his only complaint. It was more Uncle Ben's style rice not jasmine or what you would traditionally get with any island style dish. But it didn't stop him from clearing his plate lol. Eggs, gravy and battered and fried onion slices (like a blooming onion from Outback) on top were all cooked perfectly and the dish came with a yummy slice of fresh pineapple. My omelette was nice & hot and everything came out just as I ordered it. Veggies fruit and avocado were all very fresh. I made my own avocado toast by smashing it up and spreading it on my unbuttered english muffin...yum! The cinnamon roll made it about 1/2 through the 4.5 hour drive back to Vegas then I cracked and devoured it. Worth every calorie my friends! There were a few other in house baked goods like the homemade pop tart, chocolate croissant and daily muffins. This girl loves some cream cheese frosting and I don't splurge often but when I do....there WILL be frosting involved. We absolutely loved EVERYTHING about our meal and experience @ OEB and will certainly come back if we're in the Scottsdale. BTW folks-they mean it when they say CASH ONLY. It's a local breakfast & lunch only , California Hawaiian beach styled diner with all homemade & unique delicious food. Big menu with many options ,as creatures of habit daughter in law & I chose the green chili Benedict's with Birria added to top it off . She had a wonderful sweet unique tamale as base highly Recommemded. My son always has the chicken fried steak . All of large portions of hash browns were chosen extra crispy done to perfection ( I don't usually use the word perfect ). This place kind of reminded me of Bob's big boy! I used to love that place and they always had great food. Me and my family will always go and get a burger or their french fries... They don't have military discount however they do a huge Veterans Day celebration and veterans can come and eat anything on the menu for free. We started with the cinnamon roll which wasn't my favorite since it was doughier than what I'd prefer but wasn't too bad. The french toast was great but would have prefered if they had real maple syrup instead of a blend of syrups. It was a bit overly sweet for me (which is insane for me to say since I love sweets). The star of our breakfast and the thing we fought over who would get the last bite was the Al Pastor Hash. We were a bit skeptical about the al pastor as we're used to really good ones in California but this blew our minds.
