    The hotdogs are just okay.

I am a huge fan of hot dogs, especially chili dogs. I have been on the hunt for a great one in Albany and the surrounding area. Hot dog Charlie's was good. The ultimate hot dog needs to be a memorable experience and it didn't quite make the score for me. I am still searching and will let you know if I find a heavenly chili dog.

Due to the Hot Dog Charlie's in Cohoes being closed due to a fire, I decided to give this location a try. Knowing that, this location is just as good as the Cohoes one. To explain, I ordered a bunch of mini dogs with mustard and meat sauce and they were exceptional. The hot dogs were tender, juicy, and had tremendous flavor. In addition, the rolls were toasted and had good taste. Also, the mustard is phenomenal and matches perfectly with the hot dogs. Finally, the meat sauce is excellent. It's light, flavorful, and has just the right amount of spice. To conclude, Hot Dog Charlie's has some of the best hot dogs I've ever had.

Yum!! So good, just like I remember

I can't believe there is still a Charlie's Hot Dogs! Driving across the river to see a friend I passed through Rensselaer NY. On my right, I could not believe what a saw and had to stop in. First, super clean with a fun staff on a Saturday afternoon. I ordered 3 small natural casing dogs with Cheese, ketchup and chili sauce! YUM!!! So good, just like I remembered from my childhood. Worth the trip! Thanks guys!!!

Close by so stop in now and again. I actually like the hamburgers here especially when they put a little sauce on it. Worth stopping by if you're hungry.

Clean and quick. The food came out super quick and the fries were hot. I tried two of the original minis with onions, mustard, and sauce. They were delicious. The casing had snap. I already want to go back.

With the name hot dog Charlie's you just have to stop in.... hot dog Charlie's is one of those classic Hot Dog joints. I ended up ordering the mini hot dogs because why not who wouldn't like something Mini... I really enjoyed the minis I got sauerkraut and then I also got their special meat sauce which is kind of like a chili...

Two dozen dogs. Actually 22 - couldn't help myself before I snapped a photo.

When you're stuck in Albany for work (no offense, but is there any other reason you'd find yourself in Albany?) and you want a taste of the local cuisine, when you ask your local colleagues where to go, they'll eventually wind up recommending Hot Dog Charlie's. Why? Because it's good local eats! Being that we were still in the height of the pandemic, we had to get takeout, and Hot Dog Charlie's was happy to oblige with two trays of dogs, one with chili, mustard and onions, and one with relish. And anyone who can eat just a few of these little things has got some crazy strong willpower! The dogs have the perfect snap when you bite into them, the relish was cool and crisp and tangy, the chili was smoky and dark, offset by the bright mustard and sharp onions. Two dozen little dogs were gone in no time. I'm not sure I'd ever purposely come back to Albany, but if I do, Hot Dog Charlie's will be the first place I go to for eats.

This place is ok of you want a nice quick bit. I had the Mini dogs with Cheese and meat sauce it was pretty good, nothing to Scream about. Besides that the staff was very nice and the service was good.

12 with the works and a side of fries. Yum!

Very rude customer service. They also don't pick up the phone even though there are no customers.

We had just come from a drive around the NY capitol building and, whatever way the GPS brough us, it said that we had "arrived" when we were still on Delaware Ave. We were looking into an empty storefront and we were worried. But we turned the corner onto Central and were overjoyed to see McCant's. We couldn't tell if it was open from the street but we pressed our luck, parking and walking about a block. They were open! Yay! You can order at a kiosk/screen. Our group each went with a different dog, our group ending up with a Memphis, a Slaw Dog, and a New Yorker. We shared an order of fries. The food was ready quickly and as the food got off the folks behind the counter made sure everything looked good to us (it did!). My Mom gave her New Yorker 5 stars. Great flavor with the sauerkraut and onion sauce. My Aunt gave her Slaw Dog 4.75 stars. Tons of cole slaw (maybe a touch too much). I'd give my Memphis Dog 3.75. The McCants chili is pretty loose, liquidy and there is plenty of it on this top (maybe a touch too much). I didn't think the bun stood a chance against all the liquid toppings but, with some delicate handling, it made it through the whole eating experience. Phew. It was good but I think the chili really dominated the other toppings. The fries were great. Really well-seasoned. The folks behind the counter made sure we had a tasty experience as we left. I'd definitely come back here! I'm eyeing that Fire Truck!

And, I usually only put ketchup on hot dogs (no onions, no mustard, no relish). I like how places have special meat sauce but I usually avoid it because of the onions. HDC is no exception. After having lived in Clifton Park where there was a HDC in the mall food court, I assumed it was just a ho-hum place. It still might be, but my late night sojourn has caused me to rethink what I thought I knew all about HDC. But, my wife and I had already eaten dinner and were on the way back from getting ice cream and we thought we might stop in to get one or two for the road. We were the only customers and the place was being cleaned when we arrived, so it was spotless (or as spotless as a hot dog restaurant will ever be). I ordered two mini hot dogs with ketchup and cheese, my wife had them with sauce and mustard. They were pretty good. I think the ketchup was too sweet and next time I will ask for less. Or, perhaps it is Heinz (I prefer Hunts which tastes less sugary to me). The cheese sauce was a nice twist on the regular hot dog and I loved it. Two bites each and they were gone! I will be back!
