Not that great, not impressed. I only went into try because the Pho next door was closed on Sun.

One option I don't think you can get at similar places is the basic ground beef taco (prepared any way you like)

Updating this review because they have put in the work to deserve the 4.5 stars I'm giving them for my most recent visit(s). They are technically a chain but there's only one location in CT (they're based in OH I believe) and when they're doing things right - as they had been when they first opened - it's really very good. Hot Heads is very similar to a Moe's or a Chipotle with some minor, but important differences. The most significant of which are the more than 12 different sauces they use to finish their bowls, burritos, tacos, salads, etc. They also offer 'toasted' burritos (and other items) which is not something you can get at the formerly mentioned restaurants. They have a few more 'signature' bowls than other, similar chains so you can literally order by number if you're in a hurry and of course you are free to build your own 'custom' anything, any way you like - including the pre-configured "numbered" options. I think they offer just a little bit more variety at Hot Heads as well. One thing they do that I have not seen at other places is they weigh the meat portions. This way it's always consistent, and that can make a HUGE difference. All in all I think they are back to their former glory and I hope they keep that up because I always love stopping at this place when I'm up near the airport. 4.5 stars!

If 1/2 stars were an option I'd say 3.5 stars but I feel I'd be low balling them by only giving 3 stars because there was a lot that I liked about this place. It's not 'authentic' Mexican but more along the line of a Moe's. I don't care for Moe's but I liked this place. First of all, there are lots of healthy options. They have brown rice, cilantro rice, black beans, a smaller rice bowl vs larger rice bowl. The grilled veggies were chunky grilled veggies that were delicious. The corn was also flavored nicely. Similar to Subway or Chipotle you choose all these great toppings and a bowl or whatever you ordered gets customized. They also offer lots of types of proteins including 2 kinds of steak, chicken, barbacoa, etc. The sauces are delicious! I chose the sweet habanero sauce. I would buy a bottle of it if it were for sale. They should really sell bottles! So for a 'fast food' type of place this was a pleasant surprise to me.

It was my first time trying Hot Head Burritos and wow was I impressed. I got a chicken burrito and it was amazing. I usually go to Chipotle, Qdoba, or Moes, but then I came across this place while staying at a near by hotel. And in my opinion it's better than all 3!! They have an incredible selection of sauces (view picture). These are a must try, make sure you add at least one. I wish they had more locations on the east coast but so far this is the only one I've seen.

We overheard the manager saying this is the first Hot Head Burrito on the East Coast, so that's pretty cool. The Mexican fast food market is pretty full here with Qdoba, Moe's and Chipotle, so it shows how much Mexican-style food has gone mainstream once Taco Bell paved the way. Anyway- the dining room is cozy with 4 booths and a handful of small tables. You order assembly-line style (let's call it the Subway Model) and can choose from Bowls, Burritos, Tacos, Quesadillas, and Nachos customized with your choice of protein (pork, chicken, steak) a rainbow selection of 15 extras or veggies (16 if you want to spring the extra buck for guacamole), and ten different sauces. For lunch we had a chicken quesadilla and a salad with chicken. I loaded the salad up with black beans, pico, corn, salsa, banana peppers, onions, jalapenos, and Cholula sauce. It was pretty good, but definitely came in second to a similar salad at Moe's that definitely had more chicken and more overall volume. The quesadilla was folded over and press grilled, so it didn't look like your typical flat quesadilla. The food was around $14, but the portions were smaller and Moe's adds on free chips. Hot Head definitely merits an A-OK in my book.

The decor is all 50's from the chairs, walls, food, etc. Here's their story: "September 11th 2001 changed my life forever. After 19 years as a flight attendant, I decided it was time for a change. Thanks to my dearest mentor and friend, my dreams have come true. Actually, this all dates back to the year of 1952. My friend had a wish, too! Naif Makol, Jr. loved to eat his burgers when he was only knee high to a grasshopper, at which time, he asked his daddy if he would buy him a hamburger store. "Bah" astonishingly honored his son's request, and the family was in Burger Business. We dedicate the vision behind our concept to an exceptional man, Naif George Makol, Sr., without whose foresight and extraordinary business sense this could have not been possible. Our country was a great place to live in back in the 1950's American families enjoyed simple pleasures like drive-in movies, cruise nights, and car hops. Much has changed today except the memories of a time gone by. Naif Jr. has never let those joyous memories fade so in saying that here we are today. Naif and I wanted to create a place representative of a time when families gathered together listening to Dion or little Richard on the radio or cruising into their favorite soda shop for burgers or dogs. Skooter's took on a life of its own once we collaborated about the open kitchen concept and sit-down counter service. We've created a warm, family atmosphere which we hope you will enjoy. Our goal as proprietors is to provide you quick in-and-out service in an upbeat, happy environment at an affordable price. We want to be your home away from home. With Jonathan Karas as a key part of our family and the central force of our operations, I'm sure you will enjoy what he has to bring to the table (pun intended). We hope you delight in the simplicity and of course the great tasting yummy food." For my drink, I'm having a black coffee. It's my first caffeinated drink in a long time (no decaf available). I'd have a milkshake, but they're extremely heavy. Ah! REAL coffee! For my soup, it's Sausage, Pepper and Onion. Rice too I see. It's very good! An unusual soup, I'm also trying the chili. This is good! I got the last of it! Peppers is an odd ingredient. I can't leave here without trying a hot dog (Frankfurter) with sauerkraut. This is good! I liked the buttered bun. No shortage of sauerkraut. For my entree, I'm having a Grilled Lemon Chicken sandwich. This is really good! Notice the square lettuce leaves. For dessert, I'm having a slice of blueberry pie. This is a HUGE piece of pie! It's nice and chilled. I haven't had this in decades! It's delicious! What a great meal here! Those onion rings are freshly battered and are huge! One of them was 4 inches across! Oh yeah! This is great!

The hustle and bustle of serving the food quickly and hot is fun. Not to mention watching everything being put together. I had not eaten here in over 20 years, and tonight it most like gets put back on my rotation. The hamburger was the hand packed one (the only way to go) with bacon, and it was cooked perfectly. The fries too were excellent- I assume all fried food here will be good. The hot dog (Blue Seal brand) was good. I got it with chili and cheese. What threw me off was it was actually chili with beans, normally CT dogs are more a meat sauce. Anyway, it was enjoyable. The New England style hot dog roll was the disappointment, it didn't add to the flavor. (If there was a Dave Portnoy of hot dogs, the better rolls would be 'Texas toast-like'). We sat at the stools at the counter which was fun. This place isn't trying to be a '50s diner, it is one!
