Behind the trailer they have cornhole, darts, tables and umbrellas. Even areas for dogs while you enjoys your in-house made ice cream. Right next door is a Morning Joint coffee house and a cute shop. The airstream opened at two until 930 when we were there on a Friday afternoon in late June. I tried Thai tea because they were out of snickers, a friend had a brownie sundae and another friend had sea salted munchies. Thai tea was very tasty, if sweet and friends said theirs was good but also very sweet. Saw the owner making a new batch of ice cream in house. The cinnamon ones are the bomb! The pastry actually peels apart and is a warm, delicate and perfect sweet treat. The coconut is a little dry, stick with the cinnamon. So head down to Mallory Square, watch a beautiful sunset and try one of these unique snacks.

Food: The one item that really stood out was the PB Fudge Cookie. It's a large peanut butter cookie with a thick layer of peanut butter fudge, topped with another thick layer of chocolate fudge. Yes, it's one big and delicious cookie. It's expensive at $12, but it's large enough to feed a family of six. There were other items that looked equally amazing, including the chocolate-dipped coconut macaroons. On another visit a couple of days later, we tried the Key lime pie, and it was excellent. The crust had a rich, buttery flavor and held together well. Instead of the traditional meringue topping, they used whipped cream, which was a nice touch. We even asked for extra. Service: The staff were friendly, helpful, and patient. We never felt rushed. Atmosphere: The shop is well lit, clean, and has an upbeat aesthetic. Mattheessen's is a place we would, and did, return to for a second visit.

Different people and different palates determine what qualifies as "the best." And in Key West, the debate over who makes the best Key lime pie is very real. I don't usually dive headfirst into controversy, but I will this time. As you travel around Key West, you'll hear plenty of strong opinions about what belongs on top of a proper Key lime pie. Some insist that authentic pie must have a meringue topping and dismiss whipped cream as inferior. What often gets overlooked in that debate is the crust. It doesn't matter how tall the meringue is if the crust falls apart. That's why Mattheessen's Key lime pie is my favorite. The filling and the crust are both excellent. The custard is silky and tart, with bright lime flavor, and it sits on a buttery graham cracker crust that's firm enough to hold its shape from first bite to last. It was delicious all the way through. In a town full of strong opinions about Key lime pie, this one earns my vote.

There are two small bistro tables in the sidewalk where you can sit and enjoy and watch the people pass by.
