This restaurant is now called Royal Thai. The managers name is Andrew and on a Friday evening and all day Saturday the employees claimed no manager was on duty. The food here is very good but if anything ever goes wrong they will not fix it. I spent $60 and gave them a $10 Tip for a Togo order. I live 20 minutes away. We ordered two tom yum soups with vegetables, one mild and one Medium with chicken. On getting home the mild soup also had chicken. The medium soup was a plain tom yum with chicken, no vegetables. After eating I called and was told I had to bring both uneaten soups back to the store for them to do anything. Yay! A 40 minute drive to deal with them screwing up my order. Pass. Thai Fix on Baldwin will now get my business. (And they have! U eat there weekly! Less expensive, shorter drive, friendlier staff!) Avoid Royal Thai. Terrible service. read more

Food is great when they give you what you ask for, service is awful. They will charge you for the extra items but they will not give them to you. In fact I called and left a message about the poor service that I had received, left our phone number for a return phone call, but never received a phone call. I tried to call another time to tell the manager or owner about my service, only the employees could not tell me when the manager or owner was there for me to talk to. We waited over an hour and a half for our carry out meal. Be cautioned, they will take your money first but you will be sitting there waiting for your food forever... reluctant to leave because you already paid. Do yourself a favor and just get your money back and leave if you ever question when your food is going to be ready. Update--we've stopped eating here; the food that we enjoyed so much after they opened has gone to hell. It's bland, the spice level is a joke, and generally has no flavor. This is by far the best Thai food in, at least, a 20 mile radius. We used to frequent their old place in Waterford and noticed immediately when they weren't cooking there any longer. When they opened on Sashabaw I'm thinking we broke a couple speed laws getting there. We've had most of the items on the menu and they are all exceptional. I loved the food, the service was great, special mention to there hot and sour soup it's different than every other Thai place and tastes good. The food seems to be hit or miss, one time it's fantastic and then the next time it's very "blah". Order times rarely seem to be accurate. On my most recent order I was told 20 minutes. I showed up 15 minutes after I ordered and then proceeded to wait an additional 40 minutes. Sadly, that seemed to be the story of everyone in the waiting area that night, which did not make much sense since there were only 4 dine-in tables and two chefs in the kitchen. I almost gave up on eating Thai food in Michigan, but decided to give it one last shot and so I tried this place. I've lived in several cities on the west coast, including Los Angeles. Generally, the food in Michigan is subpar in comparison; bordering on downright terrible. Hey, if you haven't lived out there, you just don't know what excellent restaurant-food is. I'm sure New Yorkers can relate. All of the Thai I've tried in the greater Detroit area has been unsatisfactory, for different reasons. However, Hot Pepper Thai is fantastic all around. They are always able to make my favorite dish, a red curry, as I like it. Many places in Michigan flat out refuse to even steam tofu, as opposed to fry it, but Hot Pepper Thai has never had a problem. The customer service is great, too. There's been a handful of times over the last two years that my order wasn't correct but they seemed nice enough about it when I would call etc. The final straw last evening when I found two pieces of plastic in my pad thai. There could've been more. I stopped looking after that. When I called about it I was told I can't be refunded until Tuesday when the owner is in. Alas, I can only eat one dish at a time, but I can vouch for the Pad See-Ew (excellent!) and the Tom Kha Gai (yummy, but a little heavy on the lime.) My family and I really like the food here but the wait time is always extremely ridiculous. We called ahead as always and we were told it would be an hour wait.
