Sometimes, you want hot pot and you want a lot of it. This is your kind of place. Hot Pot Buffet is a surprisingly huge place in Chinatown that does buffet style hot pot. You pay a substantial chunk of change (I think around $25 per person? not sure) and get unlimited ingredients to throw into your hot pot. Needless to say, this is an open invitation to go crazy and eat like you're starving, which makes it perfect for large, hungry groups. Of course, keep in mind that the math always works in their favor - chances are, you won't ever eat more than $25 worth of hot pot, no matter how hungry you are! The soup here is good - not as good as higher-end (and more expensive) places, but definitely good. The same could be said for the ingredients. I was particularly impressed by the quality of the meat (it was a LOT nicer than I expected). Unfortunately, this place doesn't let you mix your own sauce, which is a bit unfortunate - half the fun of hot pot is making your own unique blend of sauce! Never again. WAY overpriced for what you get. 6 people (hotpot buffet), 6-7 drinks, $209!! The bill was really cryptic. I'm 99.9% sure they added a few things that shouldn't have been there. Plus, some of the wait staff barely speaks English.... I would care less if the service was good, but service was really bad too. Didn't bring water for everyone, never came to ask if we needed anything else, if we needed to reorder any meat or vegetables or whatever. What an awesome dining experience.... This place is a no frills, unlimited hot pot buffet that is straight and to the point. It is meant to make you full! Also, this place provides the concept of an unlimited hot pot at a great price (around $23 for dinner!)! You have a choice between a spicy and non-spicy based broth and you are given a paper where you mark all the items you want to get. There is a wide variety of beef, chicken, seafood, vegetables, eggs, and noodles to choose from to satisfy your taste buds. Since you cook the food in the pot yourself, it does not take a long time to obtain your food. However, I have noticed that if you order a lot, they may not give you less orders than what you indicated, as they are afraid that you will not finish all the food. However, this is easily remedied by just ordering more once you realize they dropped off most of the food. You will not be going through all that food right away anyways. If you are new to the concept of hot pot, much of the meat is thinly sliced, especially the beef. You can just get your piece of beef and just soak it in the broth for a very short amount of time and it's cooked. Seafood and meats like chicken take longer to cook so they have to be in the pot for a longer amount of time. I've only been here for dinner, where apparently meat like rib-eye and additional seafood items are added. Overall, service has not been bad here and the wait times are tolerable during peak hours (I have at worst waited maybe 20 minutes for a table). However, what you should do is have a group be dropped off to reserve the table while the driver looks for parking. What is unfortunate is that parking is hard to find here, so if you want a free spot somewhere, you will likely have to work for it. Once you manage to find parking in the craziness outside, its easy to see why this place is so popular. 21.99 for all you can eat hot pot buffet, and its surprising how much you can actually eat when the food is that good. The wait was about 20-30 mins on a Saturday night, while annoying that just shows you its really that good! I had the chicken broth and my friend had the house broth, both were excellent. The sauce they serve with the meal is also great. We had a wide array of items to choose from, seafood, meats, vegetables. We had mussels, clams, crab, lamb, prime rib, beef, and some shrimp dumplings (my fav!) the vegetables and noodles were all fresh and delicious as well. Only negative is that with it so busy it was hard to get service, whether it was to put our order in, ask for another dish, or just get some water. Other than that, amazing. This is a Chinatown staple with a cult following. I have friends that drive 40 minutes a few times a week just to eat here. Can you find better quality hot pot in the Boston area? For sure. There are plenty of places with better broths, better cuts of meats, and are probably cleaner. But honestly for the price you pay, I think HPB is unbeatable. I've spent 60+ dollars for dinner for 2 at other hot pot places and left feeling not completely satisfied but for about 50 bucks for 2 here you'll leave filled to the brim. And the lunch menu is a steal for the price. Honestly the only thing I would really avoid on the menu is the regular cut of lamb because it ends up being a little too fatty and gamey tasting. Other than that, I feel like the joy of a buffet is being able to try everything. Be careful though, the portion sizes per item (for dinner at least) is pretty big and every time I plan on doing multiple rounds I end up not being able to get past the first. Service is always a little lacking, don't expect any refills of water if it's busy at all. Recently I went and wanted something cool and sweet after all the meat in hot spicy broth and ordered a iced red milk tea and surprisingly it was really good. I'd never expect HBP to have really fire in house milk tea but they do. If you've never been, go when you're starving. Go light on the vegetables, get the mala broth, and gorge yourself on meat. Definitely one of the best hot pot places in, dare I say, all of Massachusetts! The sauce is UNBEATABLE. Ask for garlic, chili peppers, and garlic, yuuuum. I love the classic broth and the spicy mala broth. Warning, the spicy mala sauce is very spicy!! The spices will stick to your food and it's not a broth that slides off the food, so if you're sensitive to spice, this might not be the broth for you. There are so many options for veggies, noodles, and meat! The lunch menu is different than dinner but the lunch price is . It's about $15 while the dinner price is around $23-27. They also have a jasmine milk tea that is soooo good. One of my favorites. I miss the place the most and can't wait to be back when I feel safe to return to restaurant dining. read more

I went to Hot Pot Buffet for dinner on Saturday, 11/02/2019 and I ordered the house special broth. The broth served was a clear color. I ordered various items for my hot pot and one of which is the clam. I added the clam to my pot and boiled it for a while but the clam still remained close. During this time, I was eating and adding other items to my hot pot. But my hot pot was turning gray and dark. I was kind of concern why my soup was turning a dark murky color. When I finally had to pry open the clam I discovered it was filled completely with BLACK mud. (*picture is attached) I was completely DISGUSTED. I basically was eating a mud soup. I don't know where this mud is from and who knows how long this batch of mud was waiting to be served to an unsuspecting customer. But what really made me concerned was the lack of professionalism and care the owner showed toward me. When I ask about how something like this could happen, the owner simply shrugged and responded that they "can not account for the QUALITY of their food because they are quite busy and that this type of event had happened FREQUENTLY in the past". Their only offer of apology was to change out my hot pot for a new one. They did not feel it was their fault that I ate a contaminated soup but I was simply unlucky. The restaurant also did not seem to indicate they will be more vigilant of the food they will serve future customers. They also made me pay full price for my dinner. I am concerned that someone operating a restaurant is completely fine with serving their customer with food that has not been carefully checked and prepared. I wonder what other type of food code violation could be happening in their kitchen? For someone who is considering eating at this restaurant, I would consider other options. read more

Reasonable prices compared to others in the area and decent quality of items. If your on a budget or want a leaner option, just go with the regular beef. The ribeye isn't that necessary as you can taste a significant difference like you would as a steak. Service leaves a little to be desired but I think it's like anywhere else. Short staffed. Stopped eating here years ago. Why? Cockroach buffet, that's the name I gave this place. Used to enjoy coming here all the time for the kbbq and hotpot combo on the 3rd floor. That's when I started seeing rats and cockroaches roam around on the floor. Matter of fact, found some roaches in the hotpot broth and I was done. Showed it to the staff just to have them ignore it. I went back home to visit and flew into Boston. Before our flight back to Vegas we had lunch with the family here. It was either Korean BBQ or hotpot & I'm glad we came here. It's all you can eat hotpot so you can't go wrong with that. There are a variety of meats, seafood, & veggie options. The broth was also very good. The only thing that was disappointing was the service. Once they seated us and took our initial food & drink orders the waiter and waitresses did not come back in a timely manner to ask if we wanted to order additional items. I wish there were words to describe how utterly shook I was when I found out about the kbbq section of the restaurant. I thought that for a 4$ difference between hot pot and hot pot + kbbq, I would go for latter. I went in knowing fully well how it was from the reviews that I've read but I wanted to try it for myself. The hot pot is very generic: broth, menu to select the meats, then they serve you the plates, very traditional hot pot buffet. But what really got me was how the kbbq was set up. (A more in-depth of the hot pot review is on the previous preview). They first put a bit of oil on the clay(?) plate and then a piece of wax paper of some sort and then that's how we would cook the meat--on top of a piece of paper. Of course with all paper based products, it burns and such which requires frequent paper changes. Not only that, it makes it so that the meat cooks in its own oil and not drip away. I'm not gonna tell them how to run the place but I think having a changeable grill would work so much better and almost more efficient/aesthetically pleasing than if you just cook it on paper. Not a place for a first date, lol but For an all you can eat place, I think it's pretty good for both hot pot and korean bbq. The service though, is a bit of a hit or miss. The interior is boring, plain looking. No color. I enjoyed the food here, but if you are looking for something fancy, Kaze around the corner is excellent and it's cute for hot pot or drive to gyu-kaku for japanese bbq or koreana for Korean bbq. I actually have never had hot pot outside of Asia because I usually don't think the price is worth it. My family and I usually DIY it at home. However our friends love love love this place so we had to join them. We went on a Sunday night and the first two floors were already packed! We were on the third floor but I heard there are 5? (And they are nicer as you move up) We chose the malai and chicken herb soup bases. The malai is not spicy at all to me so I got hot oil to put on the side. Also the sacha sauce is premixed for you which I don't like. It is very watery. I am not sure if there are other sauces available but sacha is always my go to (although at home I add minced garlic, hot oil, cilantro and scallion) I would say that the breadth of options was astounding. There are a ton of seafood options. My favorites were the squid, salmon, and fuzhou fish balls. The beef and lamb is also very good. For vegetables, I loved the corn, bamboo and pea shoots. My friends got dumplings. These are fine but I'm half shandongese so I rarely get dumplings outside of home. Noodles I actually loved the udon! This place makes things very convenient and while I can be very knit picky with Chinese food, I definitely would come back here and try the crab and other seafood options. read more

Been here for many years and I haven't seen a single roach in my entire life here until now. That Cockroach made me lose my appetite, but you would expect roaches because you're in downtown. These city roaches are aggressive it charged toward my sister while we're shoo-ing it away. The restaurant looks clean such as tables and plates. As for the price, the restaurant was cheap $15 for lunch and $22 for dinner. The food quality was alright, not very fresh but you get what you paid for. 4/5 Hot Pot Buffet is an excellent example of Chinese Hot Pot with a great selection of meats and vegetables to choose from, great broths, and great prices. While they excel in their selection of food and flavors, their staff was adequate. Additionally, they have Korean BBQ (which I cannot attest to, but it is another option!) To begin, Hot Pot Buffet is located right by the Chinatown Gate in Boston. They are impossible to miss, and as soon as you enter you are greeted by the prices and the host/hostess. There are multiple floors, so there is a lot of seating and even on a busier day, the wait was not long. To begin, the price is fantastic. For dinner, all you can eat meat, seafood, vegetables etc. is $27. To order food, you are given a sheet of paper and you check the items you want. The selection is also nothing to gawk at-- they serve thin cut lamb, beef, pork, clams, muscles, fish, shrimp, crab, to name the few that come to mind. They also have great vegetables, a plethora of different types of mushrooms, dumplings, fish balls, tofu, among many many more. Their broths are excellent (though the mala could be a little spicier, but this will vary based on personal preference). Finally, the food comes out quickly, so especially if you're hungry and want some great food, there is no better alternative. While not a major issue, the wait staff could be more attentive. While they did frequently fill our waters, it was sometimes difficult to get ahold of the wait staff to ask for a second menu or to ask for more sauce. This Chinese style Hot Pot restaurant is open late night til 2am and they have a great variety of ingredients, more so than other more expensive Hot Pot locations. They serve Japanese Plum wine which I recommed! The only downside is that the broth is a bit mediocre in flavor sadly. The service is usually very attentive and I always enjoy my meal here.
