4/5 Hot Pot Buffet is an excellent example of Chinese Hot Pot with a great selection of meats and vegetables to choose from, great broths, and great prices. While they excel in their selection of food and flavors, their staff was adequate. Additionally, they have Korean BBQ (which I cannot attest to, but it is another option!) To begin, Hot Pot Buffet is located right by the Chinatown Gate in Boston. They are impossible to miss, and as soon as you enter you are greeted by the prices and the host/hostess. There are multiple floors, so there is a lot of seating and even on a busier day, the wait was not long. To begin, the price is fantastic. For dinner, all you can eat meat, seafood, vegetables etc. is $27. To order food, you are given a sheet of paper and you check the items you want. The selection is also nothing to gawk at-- they serve thin cut lamb, beef, pork, clams, muscles, fish, shrimp, crab, to name the few that come to mind. They also have great vegetables, a plethora of different types of mushrooms, dumplings, fish balls, tofu, among many many more. Their broths are excellent (though the mala could be a little spicier, but this will vary based on personal preference). Finally, the food comes out quickly, so especially if you're hungry and want some great food, there is no better alternative. While not a major issue, the wait staff could be more attentive. While they did frequently fill our waters, it was sometimes difficult to get ahold of the wait staff to ask for a second menu or to ask for more sauce. This however, was not a major issue as when you did, they would immediately accommodate. read more

This Chinese style Hot Pot restaurant is open late night til 2am and they have a great variety of ingredients, more so than other more expensive Hot Pot locations. They serve Japanese Plum wine which I recommed! The only downside is that the broth is a bit mediocre in flavor sadly. The service is usually very attentive and I always enjoy my meal here. A standard hot pot place. I went here with my friend on a weekend afternoon and there was no wait. We were seated immediately. The menu is very straight forward and we were able to get our food quickly. The quality of the meats and vegetables were good and because it was a buffet, we left the place full. The price was a bit steep. Also, their service was not the best. We were constantly waiting for our waitress to stop by so we could get more food. I've had mixed experiences with this place. It can range from good, attentive service to horrible and rude. I wish they offered more of a variety for broths, but I'll settle for mala. Lunch prices are appealing, but they don't have the full menu included. If you take advantage of snow crab legs during dinner times, it would make the meal much more worthy. Here, the prime rib eye is the best beef option you can get and it's surprisingly good. The first two floors are dedicated to the all you can eat hot pot. Most definitely a good time with friends or family since you all can order as much as you want for a fair price. You can choose from a wide variety of options within meats, seafood, vegetables, and meatballs. With two different broths to choose from, I definitely recommend the spicy one if you like a little kick in your food. I do not find it particular spicy, but it has a good flavor. The sauce that is included in the meal is insanely delicious. It is even tastier when you add the hot sauce the restaurant offers; but, you will have to ask for it. The service has usually been good as the staff are respectful and clear tables/fill drinks when needed. Good quality of meat/veggies, good broth, all you can eat, and good service. The Korean BBQ on the third floor has tasty food, with decent quality of meat. It's all you can eat, so that's pretty awesome. The worst experience ever! We started with a corner table, where the servers "hangout". They talked and laughed all the time, in a really noisy way. The only sauce they have was weird and we decided not to use it. And the worst is a dead clam in our pot. It was black inside and smelled so bad when we open it. Before we realized what's the problems, the food and the soup was all covered in black. I even though it's some sort of chinese herbal. We let the server know and not a single apology received. Multi-level restaurant that takes reservations. It appears that the third floor does Korean BBQ but I didn't go up there - plus I would recommend sticking to hotpot in a place like this. Yes, this is a good place to take a group, they have the capacity for sure, but you may want to try a reservation just in case it's a busy time. The restaurant looks a bit old, it's not the most fancy or trendy type of Chinese hotpot, it's very traditional and I think it still works really well considering the price point. Price: $27/person for AYCE hotpot. They don't charge less for seniors, and there is a discount for children. Food: Wide variety of seafood, meat (chicken, beef, pork, etc) and veggies. Also a selection of carbs (several types of noodles). Menu in the Yelp photos is accurate. Portions are quite plentiful, so be careful about how you order, because you may be struggling to finish everything. There's lots of choices to pick from - different meats, seafoods, veggies, and much more than other places I've been to. It's a hit or miss on the quality of food but it's delicious nonetheless. However, it's not 5 stars since the service isn't superb. Last time we were there, we didn't get all the utensils such as bowls, tongs, and soup spoons which we had to ask for multiple times. It's not really a buffet per say, like the name would lead you to think. It is however an all-you-can-eat shabu joint. I don't understand the ranting and complaints... it's an ALL you can eat for $20. What do you REALLY expect? -Expect to have a hard time with the wait staff if you don't speak Mandarin, Fuzhounese or Cantonese. Just have patience and do what I do; point to what you need. -Don't expect it to be like Shabu-Zen. You would be lost for the first 20 minutes going into the meal. You'll have to ask for the hot chili oil and bbq sauce. -Expect to eat in abundant. They will provide you with a paper menu to check off the things you want. I desire a tom yum base but no cigars so I settled for the half Mala (spicy) soup and half Chinese herbal soup. We then ordered the usual squid, scallops, clams, crab leg and fish paste from the seafood section (they now have lobster for an additional $7.95); prime rib eye (as they have no short ribs), beef tongue, tripes from the meat section; then watercress, spinach, bok choy, black mushroom, king oyster mushroom, tong ho, soft tofu and some daikon from the Veggies. -Expect the food to arrive sporadically with no rhymes or reason. Quality of meat is good and all the veggies were fresh, the seafood was kinda frozen and only ok. We were huge veggie fans so we went crazy with the greens. -Expect some missing items from your plate since it might get lost in translation. Here are some pointers, make sure you put the clams (they were huge quahogs) and crab legs last as they tend to make the broth REALLY salty. So salty that we didn't really enjoy as much. Here is a quick snapshot (in a hurry today, can't write a mini story!) + Clean, decent place; pleasantly surprised, given some of the reviews mentioned some real horror stories (not like the American Horror Story Hotel for sure) + Sea food options were pretty good, quite fresh and definitely of good quality + Same with the dumplings and Spicy Mala broth + Our primary server who took our order was very good and friendly. A smile goes a long way is what I feel about service in general + / - We also ordered lamb and beef. Between the 2, the quality of lamb was definitely a standout. It wasn't too busy so they were very attentive to us and we were able to get our food and start eating quickly! First off, the broth is amazing! We got the black chicken and mala spicy flavor and I loved both. They were both super flavorful, I almost didn't even need sauce. However, the sauce here is too amazing to pass up. It's definitely the best hot pot sauce I've had in Boston. I prefer to make my own, like other hot pot places let you, but this one was perfect. All I asked was for chili sauce and mixed the two to make it spicy to my liking! I also tried their green milk tea and it was so yummy! It's not typical green milk tea, it's closer to a Thai green milk tea, with a slight pandan flavor. I have been to two other hot pot places in Chinatown and compare to the other two, this is by far my least favorite! I prefer quality over quantity. Although one of the perks of this place is that it is all you can eat and it is also pretty cheap because it is only $15.99 during lunch time. However, you get what you paid for. I ordered the 2 different broths, the spicy broth and the original broth. The broth was really bland. It is as if I order water as my broth. I had to add the soy sauce on the side to make it less bland. I ordered several types of meat and I only found two things that were decent. It was the fatty beef and beef tongue. A lot of the meats had a strong freezer taste. On the other hand, the fish balls were pretty good and vegetables were really good. I am glad they provide you with a dipping sauce because everything is so bland. It is a satay sauce full of MSG. I can really taste it even though it made everything tasted better. Afterward my meal, I was super thirsty. The waitress that helped me also did not speak any English at all, so I had to speak to her with my limited knowledge of Chinese. It was my first time visiting this place. I went with a Chinese friend. I'm American and had never visited this kind of restaurant. You sit at a table with a big pot that gets filled up with a broth of your choice and you order food you want to cook in the pot from a list given to you. The choice selection was sufficient on the day we ordered. My favorite was the crawfish and the scallops...along with the pumpkin. The waiters were not very friendly. It would have been nice had they given us a quick update on what was going on but instead they just did the basics...ie., provided us with plates and chop sticks. I had to ask for silverware as I don't use chop sticks. Instead of a fork or spoon they brought me a spoon ladle. I had to ask for a glass of ice to pour the coke I had purchased...that they brought to me in a can...which I NEVER drink out of. The service could have been better and friendlier. Great hotpot! Super big location with 2 floors of space. I came on a Friday night, it was busy on the second floor but not too busy on the first floor. There is meat, seafood, veggies, noodles and more on the menu, and they had everything I liked. It is AYCE, and I ate a lot. I thought they had a lot of diff kinds of meat, and seafood as well, including clams, shrimp, tripe, beef tongue, tendons, scallops, salmon, etc. So not just regular meats and simple seafoods but more. If you are a fan of hot pot, then this place offers you a great all-you-can-eat deal at a reasonable price. It is not the most fancy/clean/organized restaurant, but if you can get past all that, you just might enjoy your dining experience here. There are three main tips that I think you will find extremely helpful. 1. Broth - For the base broth, I highly recommend doing the split between house special and their spicy broth. The reason why I find this combination the most efficient is because you can get the best of both worlds by getting that deep herbal taste from the house special broth AND the hint of spiciness from the spicy broth. 2. Stay with meat and avoid seafood - I highly recommend staying away from their seafood selections. Every time I ordered their seafood options, they were not fresh at all. It was very concerning. However, they do have pretty good quality of meat so I would stay with their meat selections. Beef, pork, and lamb. They are all pretty good! 3. Avoid dinner. Go during lunch time - I had an unexpected snow day off from work so I was able to go here during lunch hours which I find it to be a much better deal than dinner. Ate here for dinner tonight in a party of 4. This was my second time here. The price was $23 per person (lunch is $16), all-you-can-eat hot pot. We got the House Special broth, and ordered a variety of meats (lamb and various types of beef), seafood (salmon, scallops, crab, fish balls), and veggies (spinach, enoki mushrooms, bok choy). I wouldn't say anything was super high quality, but the meat was good enough and given that it's all-you-can-eat, it was a great deal. Our party seemed to like the choice ribeye and lamb the most. The seafood was okay but nothing special - I would advise just getting more meat and skip the seafood. The spinach was unexpectedly tasty after cooking in the broth. I also got a milk tea with bubbles, and it was quite good. Compared to other places like Q (which I've also eaten at multiple times), this place offers only one type of dipping sauce by default (whereas Q offers a variety), and overall quality of food is not quite as good as Q's. The wait so far has never been long here, at most a couple minutes (whereas at Q, I've had to wait for as long as an hour, even after calling ahead for seating). I left here stuffed beyond belief and we did not even order two rounds; everything that we checked off the first time around was brought out and in copious amounts. Service was very attentive so I was surprised by some of the other reviews; perhaps we caught them on a good night but I had no complaints about service whatsoever. Food highlight: *Scallops: They were especially fresh which surprised me given the normally high price of scallops and this being all-you-can-eat. Good value for a hotpot fan! Lunch buffet for $15 on a weekday, and $20 on other days is a great steal. There is a great variety of everything! They have all sorts of seafood (clams, crabs, shrimps) and meats in various qualities (super lean, fatty), and meat products (fishballs, quail eggs). There are also tons of vegetables from spinach to bamboo shoots, vermicilli, udon, Chinese fried dough. They are pretty timely about bringing the orders, although sometimes they may forget some items (just ask them again for it). Their broth is yummy and great - I always get double broth (herb and spicy). The herb broth have fresh Chinese herbal ingredients, nutritious and healthy. The spicy broth is extremely savory and definitely satisfy the craving for spiciness. Their green tea bubble tea is also very good! Not too sweet and very refreshing. Although the quality of the meat are not as fresh and fine as Shabu or Kaze (Japanese shabu), it is a lot more affordable (2-3 times cheaper) in comparison.
