My experience here was great. I brought my friend who doesn't have the same spice tolerance as I do. The waiter told us to not get the spicy. I said you don't understand I love spicy. He got the manager and the manager said don't get the spicy it's too spicy. We didn't listen. They ended up convincing us to get half not spicy broth by then making us custom egg drop soup in the not spicy broth. Thank God they did that because that broth was the most spicy broth I have ever had in my entire life. They knew. I loved it but could barely take it. My friend ended up in tears and they gave her free milk. We should have listened when they said it's really spicy and I thought that was what I was looking for but this was on another level. The way it works is everything is ordered a la carte. There was plenty in the serving to justify the price. Because I was alone they had me sit at the bar. I selected fungus and hot so they served it as one broth. I would request a table in the future. I ordered the lamb with bean sprouts and mushrooms and combined them in the hot pot. There is a condiment bar where they have the different components such as Mali, sesame oils broken out so I knew exactly what I was adding. Each table has it's own hot pot with them segmented so it is possible to have more than I type of broth Or parkour by was in the street. Came for the all you can eat dinner and it was honestly not great. First of all, the price was $42.99 which is probably the most expensive AYCE hotpot I've ever been to. Then, the actual selection of items didn't really differ that much from other hot pot places. I honestly think if we had ordered the same amount of food but at normal price instead of AYCE prices, we'd have saved a bunch of money. The actual quality of the ingredients was fair, but nothing over the top. The broths we chose (beef bone and tom yum) didn't have a ton of flavor, and it was difficult to tell the beef from the lamb on taste alone. The pork belly was the best cut of meat, even though at other places I normally favor the beef and lamb, and the seafood was decent. The service was also...strange. We ordered everything at the beginning and they brought out these heaping plates of meat, vegetables, and even some dessert items. We sat there looking at all of the food, but the place for the actual broths on the burner remained empty. We didn't get our broths until 7 or 8 minutes after the ingredients hit our table, and we had to wait for the broth to heat up after that, so it was off to a weird start. They also then forgot to bring us our noodles so we had to remind them, and they forgot some of the sweet items we had ordered on the second order we placed as well. A big plus was that they had Melona in a freezer for you to get as a dessert, and they had 3 flavors: Mango, Melon, and Strawberry. I had all of them and liked the Melon the best - it was nice to have a branded dessert available at AYCE. All in all, it was kind of an average experience for a really high price. I'd love to see the price drop a bit and I'd give it 4 stars then, or if their broth had a little more flavor that could give it that bump too. There's a basket to keep your jackets and bags from smelling of hotpot. We got 2 broths - Chinese herbal & beef bone. We ordered a bunch of dishes from beef, lamb, pork, seafood, veggies, and dumplings. There is a small area to get your sauces and an ice cream cooler right next to it. It was easy to order and we got all of our items quickly. The menu has the cooking time for all the food from 30 seconds to a few minutes. Some of the vegetables were a little yellow, but we ripped them off before cooking them. The chewy sweet potato noodles are my favorite and they soak up all the good broth flavoring. I really liked the interior of the entire restaurant as it's very historically Chinese oriented. They had like clothing hampers next to each table, but we weren't sure what they were for. Perhaps it's for putting your jacket in so that it doesn't smell like hotpot? All you can eat was about $45 per person outside of lunch hours, which to me is pretty expensive. Both broths were really good. The Mala one we got was mild, but boy was it spicy. Spicier than the Lamei medium spicy broth. I loved the texture of the potato noodle when it was done cooking. Soft and chewy, but also melts in your mouth. I tried making mala sauce the way they recommended and it tasted pretty good. Very sesame flavored. I probably don't get my money's worth eating a bunch of vegetables and ice cream but it's okay - it's probably a win win for the shop and for me. But if you love to indulge in meats and seafood this is the place for you - there are many options available for this, and if you're a vegetarian you could always opt for tofu and or a diverse array of different leaves and carbs. The ambience looks pretty standard for a hotpot joint but that's how you know you're in the right place. I was at my limits at 50%. The mushroom broth is some of the best mushroom broth we had in Massachusetts and it is very mushroom forward. There is abalone in the all you can eat option. Solid hot pot spot in Allston! The wait can be long on the weekends but it's definitely worth it. We did the AYCE option and enjoyed it! We loved the Chinese herbal and the Mala broths which were both super flavorful. The mala broth was a little too spicy for us though and we ended up having some of the chilis taken out which our server was kind enough to do. The sauce bar is solid and the AYCE menu also includes dessert options like oolong jelly and brown sugar rice cakes! They also have a free Haagen daz and melona popsicles for the end of your meal! I tried DLY (DaLongYi) Hotpot earlier this week because we heard there was a new AYCE hotpot place opened in Allston! DLY is one of the few hot pot spots in the Boston area that are open pretty late, until 1am daily. We came to try DLY around 10:30pm Monday. So apparently, AYCE stops around 9:30pm and any time after that, it is a la carte. AYCE price is normally $38.99, however, they're running a Summer Special price of $32.99/person (6/14/24-8/31/24). AYCE includes some of the items offered on their regular menu, sauce bar, broth, & dessert. For four people, ordering a la carte came up to about the same it would've been for AYCE. We ordered a couple of different meats, including the "milky beef", meat platter, fish balls, veggies, and more. The milky beef was a bit underwhelming because it was simply just beef with milk. The meat was already tender so it wasn't bad at all. I enjoyed the meat platter we got as it came with a variety of different cuts of beef. The salted yolk fish balls were unique and typically do not find them in other hotpot places. It was bland on its own but overall, not bad. The ice tofu here comes actually frozen. I was a bit confused when it first brought to our table but then realized it was the ice tofu. Never seen it like that before but it did taste like how it normally does. DLY seems to be an okay hotpot place. They're open pretty late so I can see this being a great spot to come if you're not feeling the other late night spots. Just note that this is not AYCE after 9:30pm if you are planning to come for AYCE. read more

I have been to DLY several times this past year and it is one of my favorite mala hotpot places. It is a newer spot and I like it's small, nicely decorated atmosphere. The first time I went I was shocked by how spicy the medium spice mala broth is (in a good way)! They do tell you it is spicy and it makes me sad to see people give lower reviews only because the broth was spicy because that's what szechuan/chongqing broth is! Theirs is especially spicy though even compared to medium at other places in Boston. I only get the spicy mala broth here. One thing I like is that after 10 they give 20% off discount! Prices are still comparable to other premium hotpot places but the late hours and discount sets it apart from other places. I love their knife cut noodles and it's only $1.99 per order. Other ingredients I have gotten are the beef plate and boneless short rib, bok choy, tofu skin, tofu puff, and enoki mushrooms. They also have other specialty dishes like milky beef, beef tripe, etc. Although it is not my favorite spot of all time in Boston, I think the late night hours and late night discount make it better than other places in some ways. The service here is quick and everyone is friendly and attentive to all your needs. Highly recommend this spot but definitely don't get the spicy broth if you don't like extremely numbing spice. read more

Discovered DLY with my best friend after trying to kill some time and instantly became our new favorite spot to have here in Boston! It isn't AYCE, but they will be having a summer deal that will be doing an AYCE menu. Everything is fairly priced, but obviously will add up the more you order. Veggies were fresh and the portions are huge. Meat was fresh as well, we have tried beef tongue at soo many places and DLY had the best - it was so soft & tender and not chewy at all. The best part for me was the broth. They have the perfect sichuan numbing spice at different levels. We got mild since my best friend can't handle spice that well and it was so flavorful. I, myself, can't wait to try their extra spicy. Service was pretty good. They have a QR code that you can scan to order more things to the table when they aren't able to come to you right away. I have been keen to try Da Long Yi since it opened a few months ago, and I finally stopped by with a friend recently. Even though we came around 7pm on a Saturday, there were a decent number of seats available (I'm never sure if this is a pro or con). Our servers were helpful in explaining how the menu worked (e.g. choosing the soup base, sauce bar, ordering, etc.) and we ended up picking the two-flavour pot, with beef broth and mala spicy beef tallow broth. I will just note that the spicy option was considerably spicier than I expected (I didn't realise until afterwards that we weren't asked for how spicy we wanted it haha), so if you are not comfortable with mala then definitely stick to a non-spicy choice to start. Anyway, I thought the broths were fragrant and of course the numbing mala sensation is always a treat, so definitely a plus for them. Most of the dishes we ordered were pretty good, too! Beef was great but honestly not the best I've had, but most of the veggies options were fresh and tasty. The lobster fish balls were a particular highlight - would definitely recommend them. Hot pot definitely scales up more for larger groups, but even for our party of two, it was definitely a bit more expensive than I expected. One of the best hot pot experiences I have had in Massachusetts! My mother in law likes to try a new hot pot restaurant every year for her birthday and so we've tried many places. The restaurant is spacious and was able to accommodate our party of 7 on a Saturday night with no problems. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and very clean. There's a diy sauce bar and on the wall there's different sauce recipes to try with measurements. We did the AYCE option with two broths, I thought it was totally worth it. Food came out fast and the meats were of good quality. The beef bone broth was my favorite and I think their broth is superior to other hot pot spots. They provide extra long chopsticks, a basket to put jackets in and aprons to keep your clothes from getting dirty. I also highly recommend getting the oolong jelly ice cream, it was unique and delicious. The staff were very tentative and helpful. I would definitely come back! read more

Tried this place for the first time yesterday and was blown away. I'm an avid hot pot fan and love to do the AYCE menus. I wanted to try this place as they have items I hadn't tried at other hot pot places such as Pork Liver and Braised Pig Feet. Me and my almost 2 year old had a great time. I am expecting Da Long Yi for a long time. As a Chengdu hotpot fave, I have to compliment the spicy broth. I personally don't recommend any other broth since Da Long Yi itself is famous for its spicy broth. The spicy broth here is very greasy, oily but somehow very traditional. The greasy and oily taste is exactly how the orthodox Chengdu hotpot broth should be. If you order tomato broth/beef broth/mushroom broth and complain that the broth is bland or bad, you come to the wrong place. This is not your shabuzen hotpot. If you prefer non-spicy broth, go somewhere else. We ordered the highest spicy level broth with another extra spicy level. The only deficit is that the spicy broth is not spicy enough. I fairly know the reason and agree on this manipulation. After many years of US dietary, I myself also can't take orthodox Chengdu spiciness. As for the food, I recommend pork kidney and beef stomach. They come the best with the spicy broth. I hope they can keep their standard and add more dishes in the future. read more
