This place is pretty neat. It wasnt that busy when we went on a Friday night during the off season. I made reservations just in case but it was pretty empty when we got there so we were sat right away and would have been even without a reservation. It's a "Polynesian" themed restaurant but the decor is about where they stop with it. No Polynesian food on the menu. Food- As mentioned before there is no Polynesian food and its mostly food you would find at your normal steakhouse. The food is good though. The shtick is these super hot rocks that come out with your meal and they cook your meats on these rocks until its cooked to your liking so if you burn your meat its on you. They do have a fish fry offering on Friday nights that's pretty tasty as well. Drinks- Lots of selection on drinks. They do have some specialty cocktails that come in a take home collectors glass. Service- Service is decent. Never had to wait for refills on drinks. Food came out quickly. Staff was all friendly. All in all this is a fun place to go for a date night or maybe an older kids birthday. Its pretty pricey and I feel you can get more for your money without the shtickyness at a real steakhouse. Drinks were good but the food was super salty. We even asked about it and the waitress didn't seem surprised. Very interesting. We enjoy the unique when dining out and Hot Rock is just that. I enjoyed the sea food trio, Ahi Tuna, scallops, and shrip. The food arrived semi cooked and we had toflip it to continue cooking, the neat thing is your food remains hot as you eat it, I even grilled my vegetables a little. Went for an early dinner on a Sunday evening. The place was very quiet - maybe 2 other tables. It's the off-season in the Dells though, so don't let that deter you from trying this place. It's a little pricey, but what isn't in that town? The food is good, the atmosphere is fun, and the experience is one of a kind. The waiter was scarce, but that wasn't necessarily a negative as there is a button on your table to alert your waiter your table needs attention. We had a girls weekend in the dells and I found this place and thought it would be kind of cool to try something new. Hot rocks did not disappoint. The concept is 100% unique to the area. I ordered the seafood trio and got salmon, two scallops and two tiger shrimp and the garlic red potatoes and seasonal veggies (asparagus and carrots). The meal comes out on a this wooden boar because the lava plate is legit 700 degrees! My seafood was on the lava plate while my veggies and potatoes were already cooked and on a separate plate. The presentation is top notch and they talk you through how long to keep your food on the lava plate. Gordon Ramsey would be proud because my scallops were perfection! The price was decent and since it is the dells it does have some kitsch to it like the signature drinks in tiki glasses that are way overpriced but tourist would love it. I wish they gave you more information on the hot rock idea...lIke is it a Tahitian thing which is why there were tiki huts and this South Pacific them? Overall it was the best food I ate in a long time and the staff was great. We read about this restaurant online and since we were visiting the Dells for a weekend, thought we'd give it a try! We knew going into it, it would be a little pricey but you definitely get your monies worth! My goodness this was THE best steak I've ever had! At first I wasn't sure about cooking my own food at the table, but it was so cool! We made a reservation ahead of time but arrived early and were able to be seated immediately... Right as we were leaving it started to get a little crowded, so I would recommend getting a reservation or go there between 5:30-6:30 (that's when we went). The ambiance was nice, I'm a big Disney nerd and it reminded me of the Polynesian Resort, so I loved that. Don't do it. First, we have five people in our party, so we made reservations for outside. When we arrived 5 minutes prior to our reservation. No one was waiting. Then the hostess tells me we cannot sit outside per our reservations. I asked, then why would we make reservations stating that we wanted to sit outside. So then a few minutes wait they sit us outside. We waited 40 minutes for our drinks. Every time our server did show up it took at least 15 minutes to come back with whatever we needed. The buzzer for calling our server basically is for looks. He never came when we pushed it. It took a hour and a half for them to bring us our food, which was sub par. This was a unique restaurant. Hubby chose ribeye n I had lamb chops. They bring it on a 750 degree stone n you cook your own meat or seafood. Sides are their vegetables for the day. Then chose red potatoes, garlic mashed potatoes (delicious) or French fries ( hubby had bad spots on a few French fries. They had vegan choice of just vegetables. Atmosphere is South Pacific. Booth seating needs improvement. It's has padding but could use lots more. While we were there was loud noises yet, the restaurant was only approximately 1/3 full. Apparently cooking your own food on a hot stone is fun. My three tween/teen kids all ordered hot rock dinners (there is an option for a small steak on a rock on the kids menu). They also enjoyed the cold volcano dessert, but I also was able to taste Death By Chocolate, which would be mom's favorite option. We had two kids' steaks, cheese curds, a salad, a salmon, some sodas, etc. and dessert. We were in a large group in the back party room. (Good idea, we had a lot of noisy kids). Our servers were delightful! Total bill for 4 of us was just north of $100 (that's 2 eating off Kids and 2 eating adult items with no cocktails). When we were leaving I noticed the main dining room getting a little smoky/hazy. The main dining room is beautiful. Took our whole family here for a unique dining experience while in the Dells. Hot Rocks did not disappoint. It was fun to cook on the lava rocks, and the meat was of good quality also. We all really enjoyed our meals. I personally thought the lobster, salmon, and ribeye stood out. It's not cheap, but if you come to the Dells looking for a bargain you're going to be disappointed. My husband and I loved this experience. You cook your food on lava rocks. We tried the ahi tuna appetizer and it was delicious. For our main course I got the filet medallions and my husband got the sirloin. Both steaks were seasoned well and we cooked it to how we like it. If you are visiting from out of town or state definitely come here and give this place a try. It is a little pricey but the experience was really fun and we have no regrets other than wishing we lived closer to enjoy this more often. read more

We had a little bit of everything here tonight. First thing's first, be aware that their tiki drinks are terrible. The photos have them loaded with garnishes and our only came with an orange slice. The drinks themselves barely had any alcohol in them, which is crazy since they are a minimum of $10, or $25 if you want a take home glass. They also advertised shareable drinks, but we were told they stopped doing those (maybe just got the off-season?) Then we got the sampler platter, which is more like the Sysco sampler since it's basically a bunch of kids menu food no different than you'd get from any other restaurant. We then did a few things for the hot rocks, Shrimp, Strip, and Filet Medallions. The actual hot-rock part of dinner was great and a fun experience. After switching to bottled beers, it was much more enjoyable. I would try it again during peak season to see if they put more effort in the drink presentation, though. read more

If you have the opportunity to have dinner here. Please take the time to do so. You'll be served the finest microwaved trash for an appetizer. Then when you tell Gamze (her name) your waitress how awful it looks. You'll be given a shoulder shrug and shell walk away. Then when you take your first bite and almost chip a tooth on the frozen trash that they pulled from Denny's dumpster. You'll want to leave. But don't, you will want the opportunity to stick arround for room temp microwaved side dishes next to an under seasoned steak. And given instructions to continually cut your raw steak into small pieces to cook it faster clearly tells you how incompetent the staff truly is. Cutting into a steak without letting it rest is just stupidity at its best. Now you'll get 3 dipping sauces like you have chicken nuggets but believe it or not, that fatty piece of crap road kill on the hot rock is actually a steak. You have at this point grown irritated with the shit service, cold food and dreadful instructions, but still hungry you cut into your meat and after waiting 49 some minutes for everything. Like being told the cooks were super busy so that's what took so long for them to bring you your raw steak for you to cook yourself. You'll cut into that road kill and taste the most amazing bland piece of crap You'll ever have. No seasoning, no flavor, no taste, just a fatty slab of road kill. And just when you think it couldn't be any worse your waitress who has been M.I.A. for 90% of your meal brings you a bill for over 100.00 for a sub par dumpster fire you have to make yourself and then find out You'll also be charged another 3% because you didn't bring cash. I give this place a generous 1 star and hope and pray the nex time there is a natural disaster this place is crushed by snow, water, fire, I don't care what as long as it's wiped off the face of this earth and no one ever has to over pay to sit through that miserable experience they dare call dinner. read more

They have you make reservations . You show up before your reservation early and they tell you there a list of people over 25 min wait. Also say their adding walk ins to the list before reservations. This is so wrong. I came specifically to this restaurant to enjoy my New Years Eve. I'm pretty sure y'all over booked which is extremely inconsiderate when I drove 2.5 hours from out of town to enjoy the food here. You need a better system and hopefully you'll do better next year. Had a reservation for 6pm on a Thursday. It was almost empty when we arrived but many people came in afterwards. It must be a common time to eat here. We had to ask to sit at another table since the one we were originally sat at rocked so bad. They moved us to 1 table over then proceeded to sit another family at the table we just left without even wiping it down. Not a good start! I will say, do not bother ordering the sampler appetizer. The food was nothing more than frozen food that was fried. 2 pieces of chicken tenders, a few popcorn shrimp, 2 onion rings, horrible fries and 2 jalapeño poppers. I have never been more disappointed in an appetizer before. Dinner better be good! I started out with a small cesar salad, which was quite large. It was ok. I tend to ask for more dressing because most restaurants don't include enough for me. I was right on this one too. Our table ordered salmon, steak and shrimp. The meat was seasoned well and the concept of cooking it ourselves and keeping it warm was great. The mashed potatoes were made with with skin still on the potato, which I prefer. This way we can get all the nutrients from it. Now the vegetables...smh. I honestly was hoping they would be good. We received 2 very thick stalks of asparagus and 2 smaller, but whole, carrots. Neither one was cooked very much and the hot rock was not going to do it. We did order the volcano ice cream lava cake dessert, which is intended for 2-3 people. Since there were 3 of us, we wanted to try this. It was the high light of the meal to me. Definitely recommend it! We were impressed with the size of the parking lot and restaurant. Large and spacious dining area. "Cook your own food on a 750 degree rock!" This was a curiosity for us, so we stopped in. My wife ordered the 12oz ribeye and I had the 6oz Filet. They bring the proteins on a 750 degree rock and instruct you to flip it every 2 minutes until it's cooked to your desired temp. Interesting concept but not at all practical. We both had garlic mashed as sides which came at the same time as the steaks so by the time the steak was cooked, the potatoes were cold. Cooking like this is similar to an iron skillet except when I cook a filet in a skillet, I start out with a cpl of tblspns of bacon grease in the pan and nothing but salt and pepper on the steak. Then I baste it with butter and Thyme sprigs and finish it in the oven. My filet came sizzling on the rock, but when I tried to flip it, it was stuck to the dry rock and what looked to me like Montreal Steak Seasoning, was just burned and stuck. So I scraped the seasoning and stuck bits of steak off of the rock and I used some butter packs and a piece of my wife's ribeye fat to try to lubricate the rock, put some table salt on the steak and went back to attempting to get a good sear on it. Well, by then, the rock had cooled to a simmer so I asked our waitress for another rock and some more butter packets. It took some work, but I finally had the steak as close to a sear without overcooking it as I could get it. It was a little tough and not a ton of great flavor. Their Sysco Ranch sauce was actually very tasty! Our server was excellent, but the prices are too high for these results and having to do this much work! Would definitely NOT recommend unless you just want the experience of cooking on a rock. Be sure to put your napkin on as a bib. There will be some splatter! read more

We had reservations at 7 and we were told it would be another 10 to 15 minute wait which was fine. However, after going up to the host stand 2 more times being told it was only another 5 minutes each time wasn't acceptable. We watched multiple people get sat that didn't have reservations that came in after us. The we didn't get seated till almost 8 o'clock and we had our 6 year old with us which was very late for him. I understand restaurants get behind but you shouldn't give time estimates that are an hour off and you also shouldn't lie to the customers. I worked in the industry for years and it never goes well when you lie to a customer especially ones that are observant because of their prior experence. If I had know it would take an hour to be sat I would've left. Once seated our server Melissa was good and she was good at checking in on us. She was very nice and prompt. The ribeye and scallops we're so so and I would have to say I would probably not go back. The food quality is not worth the price at all, but if you're going for just the entertainment of cooking on the lava stone then that was fine. You could see that the servers were working very hard and they definitely needed more servers on the floors since they were responsible for running their food and busing their tables. I would say that there needs to be better organization at the host stand and maybe things will flow more smoothly for the servers.
