We chose the steakhouse given its wide menu selection allowing for steak, fish, pasta and pizza options as well as the reasonable prices to celebrate our bachelorette. The steakhouse is tucked away at the end of a gravel road and quite small/quaint. It was dark when we arrived so we did not get a chance to enjoy the beautiful scenery I read about. The service was good and they were attentive. The food on the other hand was a little disappointing. The soups at the salad bar were mainly broth and not very flavorful other than one was overwhelming peppered. The rest of the salad bar was fresh and had many options to choose from. We ordered stuffed mushrooms for the table. My friends enjoyed them. For me, they were a little in the blank side and too cream cheesy. My steak was a tad overcooked for medium rare. We wanted to love this place. It was our first time here, and was anniversary dinner. Very casual, "hidden" local steakhouse. Not in the hustle and bustle on the main drag of the Dells. Started out great while waiting for our table (had reservations, but came a bit early). The drinks at the bar were outstanding. Blueberry mojito and espresso martini were some of the best I've had. We were excited about the unlimited soup and salad bar (included with steak dinners), as we don't see this offered much anymore. However, the soups were very bland (potato and beef vegetable) and watery. Salad was good with lots of choices, but wasn't being refilled as things were emptied. We both had filet for dinner. Meat was tough and lacking flavor. My baked potato was probably the smallest I've seen at a steakhouse. I think our server was new, but definitely not great. read more

Driving here at night in the snow made me question my decision as we went down the pitch black winding road into the woods, but once there it was clear we were going to have a great meal. I made a reservation and made the restaurant aware that I had allergies. When we arrived, the chef came out to talk to us.I told him I had to be gluten and dairy free and he said no problem. We ordered and I specified that I had to be gluten and dairy free and no butter on my steak. Then the owner came out to say we would have to wait, the kitchen was slammed and we would have to wait for our food because there was a party of 40 people in the back dining room. We waited 45 minutes, then the hostess/owner came to say our food would be out in 3-4 minutes. We waited 15 more minutes, having only the salad bar and drinks. Then the food came out and there was butter on my steak and my husband did not get his side of rice. We said we're leaving, we will only pay for our salad bar food and our drinks. The owner said no, you don't have to pay for anything. Then she said that it didn't say no butter on the steak! I said that's wrong, I said that because I have a dairy allergy. We left, and we will not be back. The service was terrible and I did not get my food prepared the way I asked. It might not seem like a big deal to some, but it is for me. I will get sick from dairy. They got the gluten free right, but not the dairy. So sad and disappointed. read more

The first time we were there, the meat was excellent. The second time we were there was mediocre and we overpriced. The service was OK. The second time it was really good. The first time the place just seems old inside and they need to move that salad bar away from the door. The owner is very friendly. 3 of us went to Rubb's Steakhouse last week. Yhey have been fixing the place up with new flooring, etc. Looks very nice. Everyone loved their meals. Meals come with soup snd salad bar. Soups were potato and vegetable beef. Both were great! Salad bar was awesome although one of my FAVORITE items from the salad bar was missing. They had a wonderful potato salad that i actually wanted to buy a quart of the last time i was there. Genevive was the server and she was great. I really like Rubbs. The name will change next year to the Spruce but for now its Rubb's Steakhouse. I am a big fan! read more

Unfortunately, we just really did not have a great experience whatsoever. It's not often that I leave a poor review, but there was just so many areas that just left us wishing that we wouldn't have spent the money on this place and I'm hoping that people are able to make a more informed decision than we did. Walking in, it was just.. awkward. The salad bar is the literal first thing you see, right next to the entry way. The greeting was awkward, and even though they had several tables open they had us go to the bar to wait (and they ended up sitting us at a table that was open the whole time?) so it was just weird. The back bar room has no music, so it was just a quiet, awkward, and long wait for mediocre drinks. Honestly, we were talking about leaving after that and was should have. There was what seemed to be regulars that came in and were rude about us being in their spots, so we were conveniently seated at that point. The food itself? Mediocre at best. The salad bar was decent, only because of the homemade soups and dressings. The waitress raved about the homemade croutons and bread as well, and there was no bread up there. It was not restocked the whole time we were there. The waitress herself was nice enough, but there was no sense of speed anywhere in our experience, including from her. The steak was the only good item, and for the pricing it should have been. The special was an overpriced goulash, and the Alfredo sauce was watery with undercooked pasta. We just really were disappointed. We did overhear some of the employees talking about the owner's discussing a name change to The G Spot - I just thought this was absurd to overhear from someplace that is presenting itself as a supper club, with pricing to reflect that. This was our second visit to this cabin like restaurant in the Woods of the Dells. Be sure to use your GPS to find. The owner is very welcoming and our waitress Christina was efficient and great. Things just fell a little short. The salad bar was great. However the New England Clam Chowder had no potatoes. Just a very few clams and a flavorful creamy broth. The Beef Vegetable soup seemed much better. We shared the Ribeye. The Ribeye was cooked to a perfect medium rare and seasoned well, but the steak was definitely not Prime. I'm really not sure it was even choice. And if you want to be called a "Steakhouse", your steaks better be better than Ponderosa. It is difficult to write this but RuBBs was terrible. 2nd time there. First time was barely acceptable but this was bad. We like going to local places off the beaten path and just by the location, this should be a cool restaurant. I understand during even busy season, it is tough for a small business to do well. The appetizer was loaded potatoes in theory. It looked like a cut up baked potato into strips with cheese added. My New York Strip was cooked on outside, raw inside. Probably frozen and tried to unfreeze and thrown on the grill. The chicken entree with noodles was dry and not good. The salad bar seemed OK but I stayed away from some of dairy add ons that looked questionable. I did not try the soup. The rolls were hard as a rock. When I ordered my second drink, they ran out of the liquor of choice (a standard) and said they were closing in a few weeks (I assume for the season). Way over-priced for what you get, unfortunate. The waitress was nice, I assumed a manager. She was coaching one of the cooks or kitchen staff how to get better and what to take for a cold in front of the dining room. We live in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin and Rubbs is just a few miles from our house. We had been to Rubbs for dinner about a month ago. The food and service was adequate. My wife and I decided on the spur of the moment to go to RUBBs for beverage of choice and appetizers at the bar. We were served by a bartender in training; he did a decent job. The appetizers were acceptable, except for the onion rings (photo attached). We sent the onion rings back. The person in charge said she'd "take them off (the bill)". She further stated that the "..whole bag is like this...fortunately the bag is almost empty...". What? These shouldn't even be served! My wife ordered a dinner and I ordered the salad bar that we would be having at the bar. When I returned with both our plates, my wife had been informed that her dinner wasn't available. The salad bar is included with a meal, but overpriced on its own so it's a good thing we weren't charged for hers. We won't be going back, but we did have a nice time together at the bar; both the beer and Red Stag Manhattans were good. read more

Went here because everywhere else had a long wait. Food was only okay as it was very bland and definitely not worth the price.

My husband and I decided to try this restaurant. We found the prices quite high for their food. 1. No cheese curds for Memorial weekend. 2. My husband got beef ribs- well well done. No excuse for them to be smoked that way. 3. I got chicken Parmigiano, chicken was not cooked but half way. The linguini was only cooked in water No salt( flat) barely any sauce on the dish. So I requested smoked pork ribs Well over done, they add sauce and bake or heat till BBQ SAUCE. is burnt on the ribs and the dish. The BBQ sauce was bitter, so I flipped them over to eat just the meat, it was then salty. I have to say my husband smokes meat all the time and he knows how to smoke meat so it's juicey and flavorful. It should be smoked part way then wrapped in foil to cook for another couple hrs. Then finished on the grill to crisp up. Then add BBQ sauce on the grill. You don't ever over cook in smoker then cook the sauce on them till its burnt. We had ice tea that was soured by the tea pitcher being dirty with mold. You have to keep tea in the refrigerator, not leave on the counter to spoil Our waitress would not listen. Would just walk away while we were explaining about the tea, since we make it and drink it everyday because we live in the south. We would not recommend this restaurant unless you want to come for the alcoholic drinks. read more

When its named after the many dry rubs that could be put on your steak, you'd expect the steak to come with it. None of our steaks had the rubs we requested. Veg of the day was frozen vegetables. Honestly we were skeptical. We choose this place based on prices and previous reviews. Showed up in peak tourist season, at 7:00 pm, and not a soul was in the building other than the staff. This should have thrown up red flags but our family is firm believers that sometimes the best places are the ones less visited. We ordered the NY strip, two seafood pastas, and one half rack of ribs (all the specials of the night). Each came with a side and the soup and salad bar. Ribs were tender, really meaty, and had a unique but amazing sauce. Steak was well prepared 10oz strip with a pepper rub (my choice out of six). Sea food pasta was well cooked with shrimp, crab, and scallops. The service was outstanding. Andre took care of everything, was personable and attentive even though he was the only staff at the front because they were so slow. As the night progressed more people filled in and he still kept up with us like we were is only table. Overall bill, $82.00. Kind of on the higher end of what we normally spend on vacation, but we always have one splurge night and this was it. All in all, take the extra few minutes and make the drive to this place. On 5/28 my husband and I went to celebrate our anniversary. We are from out of town and a friend had heard it was good place. Expecting a "5 star restaurant" We were disappointed to be seated at a booth reminiscent of Denny's. we ordered drinks which came promptly, but we had to ask for coasters. The noise level was higher than expected. The menu looked good. Unfortunately it was not until we ordered we were informed of the list of items that were unavailable. We settled on scallops and a New York Strip And a couple of twice baked potatoes. The cost would be around $75 which is not expensive for a celebration. After we ordered, we were directed to a salad bar even in a Denny's would have been found lacking. Nothing was labeled and both soups looked like gruel. When our food arrived the first thing we noticed was that all the sea scallops were cut in pieces That's when we noticed all the food was cold - the cheese on the twice baked potatoes had already geld. We spoke with the owner and stated how unhappy we were and that we were not going to pay for the food we were served. i admit we were upset by the food, however nothing warranted the owner telling my husband he did not have to be such a "dickhead". We went from upset to shock. We paid for the drinks and left. My advice, When in the Wisconsin Dells area go to any other place. read more
