After using Yelp, as usual, to look up a restaurant I had driven by, the reviews were good so I decided to go to Field's for dinner when I was stopping in the Dells overnight on my way to a convention in Minneapolis. I made a reservation in advance on OpenTable, showed up a little early, and was immediately seated in a small, L-curved booth that could probably accommodate two, but it was perfect for one. And as a bonus, I had a lovely view of the pond and fountain outside the restaurant window. My server, Rufina, was perfect, too. She covered all the specials, delivered every course with perfect timing, and chatted and checked in just enough to make me feel valued but not overly watched. As I finished each course, my plates were also whisked away efficiently by other restaurant staff. I started with the Manhattan from their specialty cocktails list, which was perfectly crafted and delicious. I declined any appetizers or soups because I thought the meal itself would be plenty, and it was. I actually ended up taking almost half of it with me for tomorrow. I had the 7 ounce fillet, Field's style (Parmesan and a plethora of sautéed mushrooms on top), medium rare, chose the risotto as my side, and added a 6 ounce lobster tail. The only thing I will mention is medium rare was a pink that tended more toward medium than rare. It could've been a little less done. But in general, everything was delicious. I passed on dessert and chose an espresso martini instead, and it was also excellently crafted. This dinner was exactly what I wanted - a respite from my driving before I settled in for the night, delicious food, attentive service, and a lovely view. I couldn't ask for more. Visited for dinner during our vacation to the wilderness. Staff was super nice and welcoming upon entrance and we got our table right away. It wasn't super busy the day that we went. The vibe is definitely a bit more upscale and classy, but they are still kid friendly, our food and drinks came out relatively quick. Field's Prime Rib House Cut: Field's at the Wilderness is honestly my favorite steakhouse. I know, I know, the Dells has a good steakhouse? Not only is the Dells the waterpark capital of the world, but they have a GREAT steakhouse. Field's has been serving locals and vacationers alike since it opened at the Wilderness Resort back in 2000. I've dined there six times dating back to 2010 and every time was a phenomenal experience. The contemporary décor is tasteful and pleasing to the eye, while the food is delicious and satisfying. The exterior even boasts a gorgeous waterfall that can be spotted from the road. I enjoyed it so much on my visit last summer that I went with the slow roasted prime rib again. I usually order mine medium, but was told it comes medium rare, which was fine. What ended up being a game changer with this steak is that I ordered it "Field's Style". Field's Style is topping the steak with baked parmesan cheese along with fresh mushrooms that had been sautéed in garlic butter. My steak was practically drowning in mushrooms (and I'm not complaining). The prime rib was rich, juicy, tender, and had a pleasantly buttery taste with hints of garlic thanks to the sautéed mushrooms. This is one of the best steaks I've ever had and now it's a struggle going to steak houses that don't offer the option of adding cheese. Really like the whole inside of the restaurant mood lighting set the tone for a very personable one on one night out with your significant other. There was at least two people assigned to each table so they were very tentative to your needs. Salad was almost like a work of art. I didn't wanna eat it. Absolutely stellar experience each time we've come! The food is pricey but it's top-notch quality and tastes fantastic! Amazing seafood and steaks. Great selection of wines and drinks. The service at the front end are welcoming, very courteous to get you seated (reservations recommended) and have a reliable coat check. The wait staff are very professional, knowledgeable and charming. Very calm, low-light and intimate ambiance in the evening for being such a large space. Beautiful/interesting decor. Keep in mind that you're probably going to have a higher bill (with 2-3 drinks and meals it generally costs us around 70- 80/adult person with tip) but the experience is worth every dollar. Nothing was bad, but in the same sense, nothing was really good. This is a nice place, with fine dining prices, so I expected better. Ribs fell off the bone, the bbq sauce was more of orange in color and was not an intense flavor. I would have enjoyed it to be a bit smokier. The rack was meaty but thinner than most. Crab cake was a good size, definitely sharable (it is an appetizer). I liked the sauce that was served with it, went well with the cake, and gave it more flavor. The Dells is a tourist area, so this place gets lots of business because of its location in the Wilderness Complex. Not sure if it's worth the touristy pricing however. We have been waiting for an opportunifty to dine at Fields for a while now. We have dined at several restaurants in The Dells area over the years and most of them just didn't live up to the hype. Fields at the Wilderness was different - to our delight. This was a birthday dinner and we wanted it to be special. The restaurant and bar are just beautiful and very spacious. It was a Thursday on the 'off season' so it wasn't very busy but there were quite a few filled tables scattered about. The staff there went above and beyond to make it a 5 star experience. And then there's the food. Top notch all the way. My husband had beef tenderloin and spicy shrimp. The steak was prepared to perfection and the shrimp were delicious with just a bit of heat in the sauce. I had the lamb chops with a cranberry reduction and Brussels sprouts. If I were a cat I would have been purring. Yes, it was that good! They remembered my husbands birthday and presented a birthday sundae with 2 spoons. Although we were too full for dessert we 'managed' to devour a good portion of it. We will be returning for sure. Restaurant had a nice atmosphere. Wait staff were friendly and attentive. So far so good for what you would expect at the price point. The filet was tender, although more medium than medium rare. However, it appeared to be sous vide then placed on a grill for the marks. No sear, no char. Virtually no flavor. The breaded shrimp scampi also lacked flavor. On the other hand, the lobster bisque was very delicious. The ribeye salad wasn't bad. One of my dining companions enjoyed the shellfish medley. I'd go back for the bisque or the medley. Second time visiting Fields. Once was five years ago and I remember it being very good. This time around I would say it's one of the best places I've eaten in recent memory. The lobster bisque was outrageously good. I wish I had some everyday. Wife and I both had the prime rib. Both were excellent. The staff were beyond attentive and super friendly. My husband and I went on a Tues night recently for my birthday. The food and the service were fantastic. It was very empty in there of course, due to being a weekday in February. What is disappointing is the number of families with little kids sitting near us. There is so much room in this resteraunt that families could easily be sat elsewhere. Or could there be dress code that could prevent families from coming when we came all dressed up for a nice dinner. Kids were jumping on chairs during dinner. Understandable that the staff can't prevent that but not enjoyable for people like us paying $250 for dinner. We will come back. We love it there. This restaurant is somewhat expensive, per our regular standards, but it was also worth every penny. Atmosphere is classic and quiet and beautiful. We were seated by the window overlooking a pond. The seats were soft and comfortable. The service was the best we have had, maybe ever. But the food.... Wow, just wow! We upgraded to the Wilderness salad. Amazing flavors, you just don't want to stop enjoying. We both ordered the New York strip, which practically melted in your mouth. I ordered the Field's enhancer, delicious! The premiere potato was good, but I only ate a couple bites. For dessert, we ordered the Butter Brickle Crunch torte. First of all, it was huge! Second, so so good! Portions are incredibly generous. Incredibly mediocre from start to finish. Trust the 3 stars they have on Yelp. Specifically, the food was not worth the price. All 3 steaks at my table were... well flavorless. The Brussels sprouts were undercooked; the asparagus overcooked. The veal was absolutely delicious however. Lamb was good, but no great. Outside of the food, the service was just okay. An interesting note on the service: I had two dirty bread plates in front of me when my salad arrived. Instead of taking the plates, the server just used the salad plate to push the bread plates out of the way. Worst part, food took over an hour to get! So in conclusion: the service of Applebees, Ponderosa steaks, and Ruth Chris pricing. Better places to go! read more

PROS: We were seated right away and the service was excellent. Best part of the meal was the rolls and butter.. Cons: Both my husband and myself ordered steak entrees med rare and both came out rare. We sent it back and after it was fired again it was still rare towards the bone. The meat itself had NO flavor and I don't even think they use salt and pepper. The new york strip I ordered tasted like it had freezer burn and was cooked anyway. The only reason we gave this place a try is because we are staying at the resort. My wife and I had only been to Fields one time about 2 years ago. Our experience then was 5 star, atmosphere, wait staff, food, everything. However, this time not so good. We had an early 5:30 Saturday dinner reservation, it was not busy with less than 25% of the tables occupied. Wait staff was just ok, not very attentive. Our prime ribs were served, but our server did not check back on satisfaction, so we proceeded to eat. My bad for not going finding him. The prime, although tender, was not cooked to medium as ordered, but well done and not very warm and dish was so full of juice it tended to spill when cutting. The baked potatoes were hard and not hot, the green bean and asparagus sides were cold and not cooked. When we did get a check in on satisfaction half way through our meal, it was too late to return the meat. However, we did sent the uneaten sides back to be cooked, when the beans returned they were still hard and not done. I had also asked for more butter and a refill on ice tea, neither came until I asked different server. I can understand less than par service and some item issues at peak times, not the case this time. We are not planning a return to Fields. read more

Sunday October 13th It was our first time at this establishment. Dining experience was excellent my wife and I both had the 12oz prime rib with twice baked potatoes and salad. Prime rib was excellent and cooked per request except the wife's was a little well done but it was tender. Also ordered mushrooms on mine and carmelized onions on the wife's. We only were able to eat half of our meal so they boxed it up, put it in a bag for us. Service was spot on and the timing between salad and entree was perfect. Maybe they were observing us as it wasn't too busy. I recommend the place and will try it again on a future trip to the Dells. On a side note before we arrived I won enough money at the casino we were staying at to pay for the dinner and drinks. read more

Came here last night for dinner with my family while we were staying at the Wilderness. We were given a coupon and were told it was very nice so we decided to give it a try. Service was okay, nothing crazy great but not bad. We also witnessed a proposal at the booth over so that was beautiful. Now to start with the food: We received a roll each and cold butter complimentary. Both were fine. The oyster special was incredible. Very large oysters! The lobster bisque was also buttery and rich. Would have loved to see some sort of crunch in the bisque, but overall I would absolutely order again. The Cesar salad (one without sardines and one with) was very very mid. The flavor just wasn't there for the Cesar dressing and even with the added giant grinder pepper I just wasn't getting the flavor I'd want with a Cesar salad. The one added olive was also a weird add on a for a Cesar salad, but I like olives so I ate it. I ordered the New York Strip and my husband ordered the rib chop. His was cooked perfectly medium rare while mine was still mooing even though I asked for medium rare. His side was the twice baked potato and that was very delicious. Mine were the green bean almond and to be honest I did not even try it because after I tried the added on shrimp scampi over noodles I couldn't eat anymore or my food. The shrimp was rancid and completely churned my stomach after only eating one piece. Overall, I wouldn't come back here personally after the shrimp. But give it a try! Second time to Fields in a month. Super pleased with both visits. Very impressed with Fields staff, all of them especially wait staff and table helpers. Food was superb. There were 6 of us. We were seated promptly and greeted by our waiter. Table assistants attended to water and rolls, and constantly catered to our needs. We all ordered salads, 5 house and one spinach. Salads were generous and prepared to perfection with just the right amount of dressing. The mix of greens and vegetables was excellent. Four ordered prime rib. The portions were large with a nice presentation. Each slab was expertly cooked. Sides included potatoes, green beans and asparagus. Wifey had the salmon. The portion was large and was accompanied with a fresh salsa. The salmon was delicious. I had the shrimp on a bed of linguine nicely dressed in a light cream sauce that was very tasty. We both enjoyed our meals. Field's staff is tremendous. The wait staff is SUPERB. They are attentive and their timing is nothing less than perfection. The table assistants are incredible - well trained, always looking to assist and very pleasant. You can tell that the staff are happy and enjoy serving you. TL;DR Service was the best I arrived at the steakhouse 30 minutes before it closed. The ambience was very nice, and there was almost nobody there. Naturally all of our orders arrive very early. My friend ordered a medium rare fillet, and it was cooked perfectly! The salad was outstanding, and everybody got some. My food was very good but slightly saltier than expected. I had a chunk of chicken. Unfortunately one of my friends tipped five dollars to the $90 order. That same friend forgot his vape inside after we were done. When he returned inside to recover it, the waitress was extremely polite about the situation. As a result, I'm very embarrassed, and will not be returning. A birthday celebration dinner on a Saturday (night) at 4:30. Our choice of table by a window. Service was impeccable and fast. Our drinks came out immediately; we ordered at that time. All three had prime rib which was done to perfection. We like a LOT of butter which they brought out continuously with a grin! The ambiance, the service, the wait staff were pure enjoyment. Thank you again for making it such a delightful evening for us. The 86 year old bday girl even enjoyed a complimentary ice cream sundae. ( Our original plan was a different restaurant that did not take reservations and had people standing in lines outside upon our arrival; we chose to continue on down to the Dells and take our chances. Sometimes you drive/walk by a location and see the number of cars outside. It makes you wonder if the location is great or not. You could either pull out your phone and look at the reviews... or in my case, just decide to stop by. I try to come to the Dell every year or two and it only took me about 4 years to finally decide to come here. During my trip, I like to visit one steakhouse and splurge a little. The location can be seen on the main street, but getting there could be a little maze especially during the night. The parking lot seems big enough but it also semi shares the parking lot of with Wilderness hotel/park You walk inside and it looks like a very old traditional steakhouse. You are greeted with the hostess who brings you to the table. Not sure how the location normally looks but with Covid, the tables were pretty far apart. I do like how everyone has a mask and gloves on. We were seated in a private booth and asked for the drinks. Next, they gave us a butter and bread which was covered in a linen to protect them, I assume, from the air. My wife and I ordered the Oysters on the half shell for their hapy hour. Then we decided on crab topped salmon with a baked potatoe and I got the 18 oz bone in ribeye, champignon style with inlcuded a tripple cream brie sauce, caramalized onions and truffle oil with a twiced baked potatoe. Both were served with a salad. The oysters arrived shortly after ordering. They came with the traditional cocktail sauce, horseradish and a lemon. I think they prepare this early because the oysters were encrusted with ice on the bottom and the cocktail sauce was semi frozen. Although oysters were enjoyed semi chill, they were semi frozen. My wife did enjoy her salmon. Almost perfectly cooked with a nice portion of crab on top. She finished her meal which she rarely does. However, that could be due to the combination of swimming and/or good food. Finally, I was able to look at my 18oz rib eye, cooked medium rare. It was between a medium rare and rare. But I suppose if i had to choose between medium and rare, I would prefer closer to rare. The flavor of the meat was lacking a little and needed a little more salt. The brie sauce was delicous especially accompanied by the caramalized onions. Finally, there was a good hint of truffle oil over the steak. In the end, the staff was very friendly and they were being very safe with Covid precautions. The food was pretty good but not amazingly-rememberable. Looking at the bill, it was appropriate and I do see myself coming back in the future... hopefully in the post Covid apocalyptical world. read more

Prime Rib dinner is a must to have. Perfection each time dine there. I had dinner at the Field's last June with my grandchildren and family wile visiting the Dells. Prime rib dinner was perfect with melt in your mouth texture. It served with bread, salad and side. It's worth $37 a meal. I revisit this June. Price stays the same with same great service. Our waitress NEVER stopped by our table after she picked up our order. VASILY (who served our food) was the ONLY one person who was classy, polite and with REALLY good manners !!! Food was ok (definitely worse than a month or two ago). Not sure what happened to this place but after tonight's experience we'll "take a break" from this place and "stick" with The Del-Bar & Sarento's. Finally came here after coming to the Dells for over 10 years. We arrived a little before they opened so we sat at the bar for a drink. Bartender must not have been having the best day as she wasn't rude but not all that friendly. Two drinks came to $20 so I'm glad we only had time for one as they were good but not great. Unfortunately I can't remember the names. Waitress came over pretty fast and I don't know if it's because they just opened or what but she didn't seem to be in a great mood either. We tried to kid around with her a little and she was not having it. We both went with the house salad which was great. I had the blackened salmon with asparagus and baked potato. I hate to say it again but it was good but not great, I wasn't overly impressed. My boyfriend had steak, I'm not a big steak fan and this reminded me why, it was not that good. We had a couple drinks with dinner and they were better than the first two, both were a variation of an old fashioned. I had really high hopes but was a little disappointed. The food is not bad at all, just not as exceptional as I thought it would be for the price. If you include the two drinks at the bar we spent $145 and walked out unsatisfied. Bummer. read more

A mixed experience for me. While parking is plentiful, the decor is upscale, service is quick, and food is served hot (and in large portions) -- the food was overall pretty forgettable, service is a bit excessive, and prices are a bit high for what you're getting. The best part for me about eating here is the nice atmosphere and surprisingly quiet dining if you come early enough to avoid the crowds. It's a fantastic place to enjoy a casual dinner with conversation as the dining room is very large and open -- and seating is very comfortable. The service is very fast and professional, but might be almost too good (like, having water refilled every few minutes and napkins folded anytime you leave your seat). The food itself fell short for me. I tried some chicken parmesean, sweet & spicy orange rubbed salmon, and chicken alfredo. These were all served in giant plates and hot from the kitchen, but lacked any real sophistication in the preparation. Being on the upper-end of char house prices, I expected to be delighted by fresh sauces, tender meat, and exciting flavor combinations. Instead, these were prepared in a very generic manner. Inoffensive, but very plain. Overall, I was not really impressed with the items I tried -- perhaps the steaks and chops are much better. But with the price charged (pasta here could get me 3 pork chops elsewhere, salmon is about the price of prime rib), I expected good quality for any item on the menu. read more
