Great family atmosphere We had the Johnny B Goode breakfast with corned beef hash, country potatoes and 3 eggs. The waiting service could have been better. We waited for a while with the menus folded sitting on the edge of the table; the universal sign for "I'm ready to order" The food was good though service was mediocre. I was staying at the motel next door, so decided to come over for breakfast. I like the "hot rod" theme. Very clever. They have a wide range of items for breakfast, ranging from steak and eggs, to pancakes, to omelets. However, I had the ham and eggs special. A good size ham steak, potatoes, and my choice of pancake, toast, or biscuit (with or without gravy.) I chose the biscuit without gravy. There was enough food as it was. All for $5.99. The food was very good, If you like, you can have onions and bell peppers in your potatoes. The ham was cooked perfectly, the eggs were cooked just as I asked, and the biscuit was large, light and very fluffy. A *lot* of food, for a small price. Breakfast, coffee, tax and tip, all for just under $10. Not bad at all. On the weekend, the ham and eggs is a buck or 2 more, but still a great bargain. The have a good lunch menu, but they do not serve dinner. The clerk at the motel next door told me that she likes their omelets and their burgers. The restaurant does have a location in Hilmar that serves dinner twice a week. One other thing that they do in the summer months, is once a month, in keeping with their theme, they have a group of oldie car people that bring their cars to the restaurant. I'd like to see that. This place is the best breakfast and lunch place you can ever go to in Turlock been coming here for years and can't describe how good this place is. Julie the waitress is the best waitress ever she is very fast and has been working there for a while so she knows what's she's doing!! She always the nicest and has the best service the theme is so good as-well like a oldies car show theme the bathrooms are clean and it is super nice in side. If I could give it a 0 I would. We got the clam chowder and fish and chips, Clam chowder tasted to be out of a can and they just added potatoes to it which weren't even cooked. Clams were very very chewy and stringy. The fish and chips were small!!! A chicken strip from McDonalds was probably bigger than the fish from there. Very oily and soggy.. the fries were bland, soggy and cold. Price was not too bad. Paid 22.50 for both but definitely neither quality nor quantity. You gotta have always one of the other. The girl that tabbed me out was a tad bit rude. I asked if there was utensils and ranch and she said yes. Get back to work to our lunch and there is not a single utensils nor ranch, only about nickel size tartar sauce and one single ketchup packet. It was busy and packed in there, so that could justify if they didn't have about 5 waitresses and what seemed to of been 2 hostess. I took my wife shopping in Turlock and decided to stop in for a bite to eat. We were surprised to have to wait at 10:30am on a Saturday but we weren't in any hurry so we did. We are very glad we did. The food was excellent. I had an omelette and my wife had a hot rod burger. I tried some of her burger and it was fantastic. They have multiple TVs set up with different sporting events which was pretty cool and unexpected. We highly recommend this place if you want breakfast or lunch in Turlock. An awesome gem off the Route 99 in Turlock, this is a "must stop" if you are traveling on the 99! Great atmosphere in a classic diner setting, well appointed with hot rod memorabilia. A great business partner of mine brought me here for the 1st time and I loved it. I'm in the area on business again this week and had to stop for lunch. I had the Philly Chicken & Cheese sandwich with curly fries, it was terrific. They serve breakfast and lunch, my 1st time here I had breakfast and the eggs were done perfectly. But the true gem here is the staff. Julie took care of us at the table and was on point! Very professional with a great smile and personality, she checked on us regularly with our drinks never getting near empty. Food came out quickly, was hot and tasted great. Honorable mention to Ignacio, he was quick clearing the plates and making sure we didn't need anything else. Anastasia closed us out, she was very patient with me (my credit card was being temperamental) making the entire experience another excellent one! This morning we had a very sweet girl named Samantha as our server. She allowed my mother to order off of the kids meal, since it's the only way to get a one egg breakfast. Absolutely the worst place, the worst customer service and even worse manager I have ever seen, went to have breakfast and it turned out to be a nightmare I ordered my breakfast omelette with hash browns and all I asked was for Swiss cheese on my omelette not cheddar and for my hash browns to be a little cooked more and my food comes with cheddar cheese and my hash browns white barely cooked so I let the waitress know and she took it back and then comes back with a new plate and that was so disgusting I don't even know how she would bring that out to begin with, the eggs instead of being yellow and fluffy where brown and slimy and flat looked so bad like you would get sick if you ate it and the hash browns omg they threw the has browns in the fryer so the were like crispy crispy crispy so needles to say everyone ate their breakfast and I had a piece of toast and before I left I spoke to the manager not sure if he is the owner or just the manager but needless to say he should not be anytime there at Al he has absolutely zero customer service, I asked him how he thought that bringing out the second plate looking like that was except able and he says to me you ordered it that way I said no I asked for Swiss and did not ask for the hash browns like and he is telling me there is nothing wrong with the food I told him really look at it and he proceeded to tell me you need to let the waitress know how you want your food and I was like I did and that's not what I asked for and he proceeded to make excuses. I'm not impressed with this new restaurant that took over "Jenny's". When my husband and I entered the restaurant, there was nobody at the front desk. I had to stand where they could see me at the kitchen. What first surprised me was as we were met by our hostess, she told us "take any seat you want". If that was the case, I would typically see a sign "see yourself". I gave them the benefit of the doubt by not judging him until I complete my meal. My husband asked our server what soup were being served. Our server did not even know the soup that was available. What was even more funnier was that when she came back she told us there was no soup because it had to be made "Fresh". So instead, my husband decided to have a French dip and I decided to have their teriyaki cheeseburger (without cheese). My husbands meal came with a salad and unfortunately there was very little iceberg lettuce or Romain lettuce but instead it came with other green vegetables that were not normally in a regular house salad. While we waited for our food, I looked around and it was pretty disappointing. There was one table that was occupied with two servers working at that time. The floor was pretty messy with napkins and straw wrappers and crumbs on the floor. But what was also interesting, they had purses and backpacks and personal drinking cups on the countertop at the far end by the register that was obviously not being used. It did take a little time for us to get our food. I was surprised that my teriyaki burger with shredded lettuce instead of whole lettuce leaf. As I started eating my food, I overheard a conversation from some blonde woman who just walked in with tights telling one of the servers that she was just coming in from the gym from a work out. What was even more interesting was that the same person in tights with the word "pink" on her leg all she did was put on her apron and started serving tables with her workout tights an apron. Very bad taste in my book. In addition, my husband and I were trying to understand the "theme" of this place. It's supposed to be are you 1950s theme yet they had about eight flat screen monitors on the ceiling showing tennis a match. They tried to put on the 1950s music but it was difficult to hear it with the tennis game playing definitely it was decent and the price was also decent. As we were finishing our meal, new customers came in the front entrance and the blond server who was in her workout tights screamed out across the dining room "take any seat you want". We finally had to flag down our server for our receipt after we finished eating and what we got back was not the typical receipt that you get anywhere else in the world. You have to put a new tip before they slide your Visa debit card. That way, when you pay for your meal, The tip would be already included. I gave them two stars because the food was edible and the price was decent. Service: inadequate and needs more training. Theme: not consistent Price: OK Quality of food: OK Cleanliness: not acceptable Advice: when somebody orders a burger, ask them how they would like it. Usually when somebody orders the burger, they have a preference such as "rare", "medium", or "well done". Also, don't wear your exercise tights to work. I don't care if you are the manager or even the owner. There is a saying "lead by example". Don't yell across the dining room. Be consistent with the theme. The license plates from the 50's are black and yellow. At least have your staff wear server uniform of the era. Watch Pulp Fiction and learn from the restaurant Jack Rabbit Slim how they do business. At the least go to In & Out, their unifom fits the era. This place is just a wannabe 50's diner. read more

I've come here multiple times and although the service has never really been the greatest, the food was generally pretty good. Not this time. I asked hash browns to be lightly crispy, not lightly cooked. The whole meal was rather cold, and the same went for both of my compadres. Cold sausage. Undercooked bacon. The best thing was the coffee, when I managed to get a refill. Sunday mornings are our favorite time to eat out and we have favorites, but wanted to try Hot Rod as we drive past it all the time. Big waste of time. We get there and told there would be a 20 min wait. That's the norm, but we were offered outdoor dining, no wait... HUGE mistake. We sit on the patio and there were a few other parties and they had already been served. 10 minutes pass as we watch the wait staff help other patrons and not even acknowledge us. 15 min pass and now there are 3 servers walking past our table. Not once did any of them ask, "have you been helped"? After 2 I minutes, we walked out. Never going back, and telling everyone we know NOT to eat there. Worst service EVER! We are good tippers and always looking for a good breakfast. We will look elsewhere, and you should too. And I gave it 1 star, only because I had to in order to post. read more

Oh dear heaven of biscuit bliss! I thought when I ordered a biscuit on the side it was your typical round biscuit. Ends up it is a fluffy brick of amazeballs! next time I have to try biscuits and gravy. I went with an omelette, which was flavorful and had fresh avocados. Mr T had his usual French Toast which was nummy. Oh my god, biggest side biscuit ever! Huge portions, great taste, perfectly cooked, sweet waitress... How did I not know about this place before now. Sign us up to be regulars! I did post pictures of the portion sizes. Even the kids plates were HUGE so just know that going in. My kids had a hard time sitting still with all the bee boop oldies playing overhead but the waitresses just laughed at them dancing in their seats (and later fueled by syrup dancing in the aisle). I'd say my only complaint was the location, but really aren't the best places to eat usually in the seediest looking places?
