Today was my first time trying lunch at Center Street Grill in Turlock. It was a mixed bag for me. First, I was one of the first to arrive in the dining room for lunch, where it was nice and quiet (which I needed as I had a meeting with an officer from a local non-profit to discuss some fundraising things). Shortly after, a group of about 8 ladies arrived and began talking a bit loudly while enjoying their lunch. It occurred to me that the design of the place enhances the sound (a lot of hard, flat surfaces) so for a quiet lunch, this may not be your place. After my associate arrived, we asked to move over by the wall behind the cash register. This worked fine until one of the employees propped open a door a few feet away, supposedly so another worker could carry in some supplies. I got up and closed it. The first one came back, looked at me and propped it open again, the other employee walked in with four gallons of liquid, leaving the door open, and the draft blowing. I got up and closed it again. For the rest of the time we were there, neither worker came back to pass through would have been an open door. My message, the management doesn't care about their customers (which seems to have been commented on by other reviewers). Fortunately, throughout the meal, our server was attentive, did a fine job of seeing to our needs, the food (we both had salads) were plentiful and tasty. We both remarked on the quality of the chicken, not dry, not tough, spot on. I was referred here by a friend who raved about their steak sandwiches, so I decided to give it a shot while I was in the area. I placed my order over the phone for pickup, and the staff was friendly and efficient. I arrived about 8 minutes before the pickup time, but my order was ready just moments after I got there--great timing! I expected the steak sandwich to include lettuce, tomatoes, and either raw or grilled onions, but it turned out to be just ribeye and bread dipped in au jus. While the sandwich tasted good, adding those fresh toppings would have elevated it. For $25, I was hoping for a bit more substance. I opted for onion rings as my side, which had a $2 upcharge I wasn't aware of, but they were crunchy, well-seasoned, and enjoyable. I haven't been to Center Street since the old owner had it. After about nine years decided to go back after my daughter raved about it. The service is excellent. I noticed that all the servers chipped in to help each other. Julez waited on us and is fantastic. Great personality and very helpful. She is the owner's daughter and has worked there since she was a teenager. Paul, the bar manager, is a good dude. We know him from bowling, and he was all over the place helping out. We have a Turlock High Bulldog card which offered us a free appetizer. We got the grilled artichoke and enjoyed us. Helped out the Turlock H.S football team and rewarded with this $14 appetizer. Heck of a deal. My wife loves prime rib and said that hers was excellent. The cut looked great. I had a bite and will get that next time! I had the pork chop which was tender and tasty. Julez recommended and I'm glad she did. The steak fries were superb. You can tell that the restaurant has regulars that frequent it. To me that's a sign of a good and consistent restaurant. I've found myself going to center street more and more. Their food is good and the prices aren't too bad. I've gone twice within the last 4 weeks for large parties. The first party, I ordered the ribeye with loaded baked potato and vegetables. My plate came out with a ny strip, instead of ribeye. I told our waiter immediately and he changed it for me. We shared calamari, artichoke and loaded potato wedges around the table. The next party I ordered the surf and turf. Ribeye topped with Bleu cheese, calamari steak, loaded baked potato and a cup of chicken enchilada soup. Everything was delicious. While I had no issues with my order, the waitress forgot several items my friend had ordered, since she was going to just eat apps. She only received 1 of 3 appetizers. Once I came with my family and my daughter knocked her drink over. We were given a few paper napkins to try to clean it, instead of a towel and employees walked around the mess on the floor and left soda and ice on the ground. So, while the food is good...I would like to see some more attention to detail from staff, so that orders are more consistent. read more

We had a show to go to in Turlock and pre-planned eating at Center Street Grill. It was our first time there. By the prices and information that I viewed online, I thought it was going to be fancier inside. It was clean inside, very, very busy; I had to navigate through three staff to get to my reserved table. Arrived at 5:45, food came by around 6:30. We had to wait awhile for the request of butter for the bread. The food was good; I got the Angus Burger and my beau got the Surf and Turf. We also got the potato skins for an appetizer. Overall, I would eat there again. I felt like the prices were a little high, but the food was good. Parking was a challenge. All of the spots nearby were full. read more

I was in luck finding this place is open later than other restaurants. Seated quickly I was able to order rather quickly the New York Steak and baked potato. I was in no way disappointed in my meal. The steak was perfect to my liking, as was the baked potato. Delicious meal in a comfortable atmosphere. That time of the evening it was busy but not in any way excessively noisy. Best food in town. I drive through town a couple times a month and this place is by far the best I've had. Portions are big, ingredients are fresh and priced just right. Service is also very good. My husband and I both decided to try Center Street Grill for date night as we had heard good things about the food from friends who have dined here. The restaurant itself is divided into two sections: the bar and the dining room. Neither is very large, but both are comfortable. The service is friendly, quick and efficient. Center Street Grill reminds me of an old school steak house. Upon being seated, you are provided with a dish of crudités and ranch dip and a plate of bread. Your meal comes with salad, soup, entree, sides, and a scoop of ice cream for dessert! You definitely get your money's worth in my opinion! My husband and I both enjoyed our meals very much. The atmosphere was perfect for our date night! Since that first visit, we have been back multiple times. Each time we have had a wonderful experience. We would definitely recommend Center Street Grill whether you are in the mood for an old fashion steakhouse experience or a great place to get a lot of delicious food for your money! My husband $ I had a few minutes to kill on Friday night so we stopped in to have a drink at the bar. The bartender was not very friendly but my husband & I said hello we tried the bar down the street but it wasn't for us kinda trashy. Bartender said I've worked there for 6 years. Oops that didn't go well. We tried covering it up by saying we just aren't bar people we never go out. Then ordered our drinks. She did not look at us did not say one word to us! We would have ordered another drink but not with her attitude so we asked for the bill still not looking or speaking she put it down walked away. My husband said yep she belongs working at that trashy bar down the street. Came here to have a late lunch/ early dinner with family. I was ready and waiting for the filet as my choice. Note: filet on dinner menu says market price. Filet was no available on the lunch menu. So when I asked they said they had it for me. I love mid rare. Always have always will. So if it's wrong you best believe a mid rare lover knows. Outside all dry as hell with barely a little pink towards the middle. I Haaaate having to ask for my steaks to be sent back especially if it's over done you can't just refry it. And 99/100 the restaurant employees always make faces and never think they had any fault. I just don't like being in that uncomfortable pickle but I had to say something. They leave the dry ass one and fire up another, and this time..... half of the steak is way Closer to rare then medium rare but edible so I eat half and begin cutting into second half which is mostly just raw. My wife hates when I make scenes because I expect good prompt service at most restaurants as we should considering the obligation to tip these days. She had initially came back around and asked and at the time I said much better before seeing the other side. But like I said I feel bad and idk having to let them know it's not to my liking so I didn't mention it raw but imagine they saw it upon picking it up after. Kicker of the story is that for my one maybe 6 oz filet or half of the 2 however you want to look at it; that I actually ate.......... This bald headed owner unfriendly guy had the nerve to charge me $70. I'm not stranger to high prices for steaks when they're worth the price. There filet was not any better then red lobsters who's price is around 35 maybe. Such a betrayal of what the restaurant industry should aspire to be.
