I came here on a Friday night, I arrived about 6 PM. It was just me, so I offered to sit at the bar as it was full service. When I got there, there were still some empty open tables, however, as I was leaving, it seems like they're just about all filled up. I got the Mr. milkman cocktail and it was pretty tasty, although I did notice how it appeared, as if there were a lot of wines and other beverages that they were out of. Even with my cocktail, they had to substitute the base with soda water, although it was still tasty. There was probably about 7 to 8 wines/sakes that were crossed out on the menu. Food came out fast, and the service was decent on that chefs end. I got the Korean Stone bowl dish, and It was pretty tasty, although fairly expensive for what it was... rice, veggies, and a little bit of beef, but I do like the concept of having a hot bowl that progressively warms up the rest of the food inside. I really do wish there was more meat inside for the price, I feel like only two or three bites had beef. One thing that I really noticed (and I think I noticed even more because I was sitting at the bar) was how servers and the bartenders spent a lot more time conversing with their friends (who were sitting at the bar) then checking in on some of the other people. Someone did approach me to put in my drink order, but I flagged down the server to put all my other food orders in. I don't think anybody came and asked how my meal was either. I do enjoy the overall ambience of the place, dim mood lighting, a minimalist esthetic, and a bar that really nicely displays some of their high end liquors. read more

My 4th time here and it's just never been a place that I thought was so good, I need to come back. Came for a christmas party. The holiday drinks were just posted on social media two days prior and they were already unable to make one of the drinks. I've had the peppermint martini a few years ago, so went back to that. It was good, but I remember it being a little better before. Also, the presentation of drinks seems to change based on who is making them. Sometimes it's rimmed with peppermint, mine was on the side of the glass. Same issue as last time. The peppermint was too heavy and sliding down the glass, making the stem sticky when picked up. We shared several different sushi rolls. The rice seemed way over done. It was one mushy texture and the spicy tuna lacked spice. I ordered the salmon for my entree. Salmon was well cooked with a glaze and served with broccoli. First bite of broccoli tasted burnt, but luckily the rest was fine. We ordered all the desserts to sample and the best was the flourless chocolate cake and the cheesecake with the bananas. Found this place based on Yelp reviews & decided to drop by while visiting town. Service was good - our waitress was very attentive and even provided suggestions. The location was cute and had dim lighting. We started the night with Ahi Poke Nachos. They were super tasty but not worth the $25 cost since they literally came with only 5-6 pieces of ahi. Wouldn't recommend these. Next, we got the California roll and the Last Dragon Roll. Both had too much rice and hardly any filling. Other reviews mentioned that the sushi here was similar to frozen sushi and after tasting it first hand, I don't disagree. Wouldn't recommend the rolls, it's definitely not their strong suit. Now let's talk about what was really good: the Shaking Beef, drinks, and dessert! The shaking beef was spot on with what you would imagine having at a Korean restaurant. It was drenched in a delicious sauce and onions, and came with a side of rice. This was by far worth every penny! The drinks were also spot on. A perfect spot for a night out. I loved this place! The food and drinks were super good. I especially loved the lobster fried rice. The lobster chunks were big and perfectly tender. The seaweed salad in the Rainbow Roll was really juicy and flavorful. The cocktails were great! They were not super strong but very really tasty and refreshing. Even though the sushi tasted good, the rice was pretty mushy. It didn't seem like the best quality and reflective of its pretty high price. If you're looking for sushi-restaurant quality sushi, this might not be the spot for it. First & Main is a hip spot. It's dim with good music. It is accommodating for small and large parties with a large bar. It can either be super empty or completely full depending on the night. Our waiter was really friendly and checked on us often. We went here on a recommendation for the fir time while visiting in Turlock. I was at once impressed by the reception they provided when we walked in. The Host asked us to wait and we watched as she bussed the table for us to reduce the wait time. The server was attentive and had a great service attitude. So I came for the Love Island watch party as a first time customer.We were initially greeted at the bar section and our first drinks and appetizer order were taken immediately, but once the show started around 6PM we were never attended or checked on until about 6:45 by that time we just wanted our tab and just stayed to watch the rest of the show. As someone who works in a high volume environment as bartender I sympathize with all service workers but going that long without being checked on even when the 2 bartenders could see that we had empty drinks for about 30 mins(it wasn't even that busy). Once we finally got attended and asked for the tab the bartender didn't even acknowledge the horrible service in any way I always tip at least 20% this is one of the few times in my life I left no tip at a bar. Will definitely never come here again and if I ever hear this place uttered I will warn others to not go as well. read more

Came here on a weekday, Thursday in particular. Drove 14 miles to try this place that has a high customer rating. It wasn't busy earlier on but as the night progressed it started to fill up. I like the idea of just having the "&" painted on the wall. It literally is at the corner of First & Main streets. The ambience was cozy. The wait staff attentive. The food, were raving about it! The calamari was crispy with some cayenne pepper that adds a little kick to it. The Shanghai dumplings is a combination of tasteful flavors. Korean stone bowl was one of our main courses and it's like a continental version of Bibimbap, with beef strips instead of ground beef. And our favorite, the Bombay Buttered chicken was the bomb! The chicken was moist and tender and with the perfect blend of spices, I'd say the best I've tasted so far. Definitely will be coming back to explore other dishes. Been looking forward to the chance to try out this place after looking at the menu for weeks. The menu looks super promising and a great variety. Sadly it was a disappointing lunch. Basically everything was bad besides the fact that we got lucky with parking. To start it all off and to set the scene for you yelp readers, the whole time we were there it was dead silent, no music was playing. It made the environment feel awkward because it felt like everyone next to us could hear every word we say and vice versa. We first ordered cocktails and appetizers. We got the Cali Heat, Mexican Firing Squad, and a Michelob Ultra. The beer we received was the wrong one, my husband said it didn't taste like a Michelob but we didn't say anything and sure enough on the bill it said "Coors Light." And then I'm positive that we didn't get the Mexican Firing Squad, looking at other yelp photos on here, my drink looked nothing like everyone else's Mexican Firing Squad. I even questioned why it was the color it was when I received it because looking at the ingredients on the menu, I didn't understand where the purple color of the drink came from. Although the Cali Heat was correct, it wasn't the best. It lacks that balance in Mezcal-to-agave ratio. Moving on to appetizers, we ordered the cucumber salad, crunch sushi roll, and wagyu dumplings. The dumplings were definitely the only star of the show this lunch outing. If you want to play it safe get those. On the other hand, the cucumber salad was such an inconvenience to eat. It comes in a spiral cut but it should be easy to come apart still, not these ones. I had to cut up the cucumber as if it was steak so that way we were able to take an actual bite. Flavoring was also nothing unique. Lastly, the crunch roll was just awful. My husband said it tasted as if it was frozen previously. I feel like it was the exact same sushi they serve at Safeway in the Deli. Our entrees arrived and that was just the cherry on top for the experience. We got the Skirt Steak & Truffle fries and the Thai Shrimp Coconut Curry. The hopes were very high for these entrees but they just didn't fulfill the expectations. We ordered a medium cook on the steak, ended up being far from medium. The seasoning on the steak was burnt off and the truffle fries had minimal truffle flavor. The Thai Shrimp was the most saddening because there was so much potential there. I love curry and this dish lacked so much of that authentic curry seasoning, it was bland. The coconut rice had only just a hint of coconut. And to finish it off, I didn't know if the tails were suppose to be on or off on my shrimp because I had a mix of both in my dish. Really inconvenient to have to be on the look out for the tails, wouldn't recommend. Of course we ended up skipping out on dessert, it's not worth another let down. This place has a variety of different Asian fusion flavors provided on the menu, but it cannot execute one. It's not worth coming back for a round 2. read more

When we walked in, a person in our group said "You may grow a beard before we leave." This place gets 5 stars for the food and 1 for the service. All of our meals were absolutely excellent! The flavor and freshness of the food was on point. My issue was the service. We get seated and he takes the drink order. Then, it takes 15 minutes before he comes back for the order. Right before the food came out, he refilled our drinks. All is good. Then he drops off the food. Unfortunately that was the last time we saw him. After almost 30 minutes, with empty drinks and plates I go to bar to hand him my card. He apologizes and brings the check to the table. My niece picked this place for lunch. This place was just bleh! The inside was super spacious, however we sat outside which you get to see the beautiful trees, plants and greenery from other local places. It was very cute! The only thing you want to consider if you sit outside is that it's near a train track so when the train goes by it's blaring and very loud! Their food style is fusion! So if you don't care for fusion this place is not for you. Just like how it's not for me. I got the Tokyo chicken bowl, my chicken was overly salted and I just didn't care for that. The waygu beef dumplings was nothing special. My niece got the bah mi and she said it was just ok. I did try her onion rings and those were delicious! This place has went downhill sadly. It used to be so good when they first opened. Recently went in for dinner and I ordered the pork ramen because normally it is very delicious. It was extremely salty, came with NO pork (they had to bring me a side of it) & they now serve it in a smaller bowl than before. Their prices have raised also. For 2 pork buns (appetizer) it is $19. This is one of those gimmicky restaurants that attempts to dabble in too many cuisines. The execution of some of the dishes can quite abysmal. BUT, there are a few dishes that are done really well. Ramen: the ramen taste's gentrified. The broth is lackluster and the texture of the noodles is off-putting. Samosas: Delicious. Comes with two sauces that are both excellent and complement the dish well. My only complaint is that portion size compared to the price. Sushi: They cannot call this sushi. The rice was overcooked, and wasn't even prepared the right way (rice vinegar and what not). The overall taste was horrible. Poke nachos: Pretty decent. I suggest the half portion unless you have a big party. It comes with a lot of the wonton chips. But I wish it had more poke, as the fish to chip ratio was way off. Service is good. Staff are pretty attentive with refills and checking on the table. The restaurant itself is clean and has a nice ambiance. I have been dying to try First & Main for so long and was excited for the opportunity today. That, unfortunately, was short-lived. I despise leaving less than positive reviews but for the price I paid for lunch today and the disappointment with our food, it feels warranted. We ordered the cucumber salad from the sushi menu, the ahi tuna poke bowl, and the only saving grace, the Mongolian beef bowl. My first clue to abort mission should have been the $17 California roll, but alas, we stayed. ‍ For our appetizer, we chose the cucumber salad. It was nothing more than a spiral-sliced whole cucumber in a sour bath of vinegar water. No other flavors to be seen. The flavor was so overwhelming that all you could taste was vinegar. We each took one bite and slid the bowl as far away as we could. My daughter's ahi tuna poke bowl was the next hit. On the menu, the ingredients seem pretty standard, but nope, it comes with surprise strawberries, spring mix, and a pile of hidden blueberries mixed in too...? That coupled with the tiniest tuna bites and the overwhelmingly minty ginger glaze and it was a lunch nightmare. It felt like someone let their 6-yr old into the refrigerator to make lunch with whatever was within reach. Hard pass. The one positive was my Mongolian beef bowl. It was nicely flavored...for the few bites I got to take anyway before trading it off for the tuna surprise so my lunch company didn't have to deal with the embarrassment of sending their dish back, so I guess if you have to dine here, that's a pretty safe bet. Racking up a $65 lunch tab for that experience was only insult to injury. Definitely will not be back. read more
