The sign for Hot Vegan Chicks... and choose your sauces wisely...

A very sweet and spiced all Vegan prepared chicken wings from Doomie's Hot Vegan Chicks was a genuine pleasure. First I must admit getting a side dish of Mac and Cheese from Doomie's Home Cookin next door. An order of six wings with the Korean red sauce was a definite winner, even when the lovely missus asked for no pickles, but French fries are great. That was a good red Korean sauce...just the right amount of stickiness and a mild sweetness followed by a simple korean flavor spiciness, perfect with each bite of the tender wing. This sauce is also great for the French fries. We had good service with a broad smile and the order came swiftly. Sitting inside meant sitting at the combined NextMex and Hot Vegan Chicks. Not a problem as we admired the colorful insides of the restaurant. A spiced fun way to spent a quick lunch at Doomie's Hot Vegan Chicks.

Hot Vegan Chicks can be ordered inside Doomie's NexMex. There is limited staff so you order at the large iPads and wait for a text that your order is ready. There is room inside to sit yourself and a few tables outside. Definitely self-service here but the food is good! I tried their 6 piece wings (since you can choose 2 flavors) which also comes with fries and a piece of white bread. The 4 piece set is a few dollars cheaper but you can choose 1 flavor only. We tried the sweet Korean bbq and garlic. The breading was thick and very crunchy. Everything was freshly fried so pretty tasty. The fries come with a small container of chipotle aioli, which I thought was a bit too small in portion. -1 star for it being tasty but TOO salty and not enough sauce for the fries. I agree with other reviews that this is a to-go place mostly and parking is harder to find since it's a small lot. You don't have to valet

Quite good. I got a six piece which came with fries, bread, and pickles. The four piece would have been better. Six was too much fake chicken for me. The bread was at the bottom of the box and was soaked so I didn't eat that. I thought the chicken would be covered in sauce but the sauce was on the side. The seasoning on the chicken was good. The fries were crispy and delicious. The chick sauce was tasty. All the sauces were good. The vegan ranch tasted like actual ranch. There are two restaurants at this location. I went into the left one because I didn't see the other one. I'm not sure what the right restaurant has. I will have to come back.

Ended up here on a whim one day coming home From LA. The description on Google maps or w/e actually said it was Mexican food but when we pulled up we realized it was chikn. The restaurant is really small and tbh when you walk in it doesn't look like it's in business. There's no menu up and it looked pretty disheveled so I Wasn't sure what to expect but the food was so good!! Honestly this is probably my favorite vegan fried chikn I've had in a long time and I've had quite a few over the years. The texture is crispy, the flavor/seasonings are bomb, and I love their house sauce. the woman behind the counter was also really friendly. I'm not in the area often but I can't wait to find an excuse to come back.

I had no idea Tane Izakaya was in Highland Park- I knew about the Hawaii & Berkeley locations. So of course we had to go! My fiancé and I loved it!!! The food was well prepared and flavorful. The only dish we didn't like was the edamame because the way it was prepared- the shell and inner bean were both chewable unlike other edamame preparations where you bite and get the beans out. Maybe we were eating it wrong, but we kept having to remove the chewed up shell from our mouths after enjoying the bean inside. We got a reservation, highly recommend! We parked on a neighborhood street since we were there early to walk around and get Donut Friend. Um, what?! How is this vegan?! Whatever meat alternative they used, the texture was perfect. Also amazing seasonings and sauces. It was packed with flavor and lots of veggies. And it was super filling, too! I also grabbed a coconut water cause I need my electrolytes. I took my meal to-go, but kind of regretted it because the inside is so cute! Retro diner chic. The restaurant has both inside and outdoor spaces with two different entrances. This was a bit confusing since we walked coming from Sunset and entered the inside the first time we came! Thankfully, the staff were super helpful and directed us to the other entrance for the patio seating! I did get a look at the inside space which had its own lovely ambiance and felt calming and mellow. The patio seating felt magical and being there I felt transported to a completely different place! The decor is lovely and if you're a sports fan, they have games playing in the background. There are ample heat lamps placed throughout, which was great since both times we went it was chilly at night! The staff even adjusted it to our comfort. Both times I came here, there were Prix fix menus to choose from. The first visit had a smaller Prix fix menus, while the second time had more on the menu and didn't cost much more. I highly recommend ordering from the Prix fix as it's a great value to be able to try a food variety of options! The standouts were definitely the monkey buns, the king oyster bao, and the sweet and sour mushroom, although everything we had tasted amazing! The monkey buns had a soft doughy texture and were nice and sticky with a wonderful savory mixture inside and a subtle sweetness. The king oyster bao was pretty similar although didn't have the stickiness but was more spicy and creamy inside. The sweet and sour mushroom is a must with the crispiness mushroom to really mimic chicken with a lovely tangy sauce that was just so scrumptious. For dessert both times, we got the Triple Chocolate Trifle which was layered with so much texture and flavor and was rich and decadent but not overly heavy. This dessert truly is a must even though the bao beignets also sound very enticing and I would love to try on my next visit here! I also loved the experience of having the tea brought to our table (you get two refills with hot water). It was so flavorful and fun to watch it steep and being able to smell the freshness of the tea leaves. It was so refreshing and flavorful and truly complimented and brought out the flavors of the food. It's an experience that must be had at this restaurant. I highly recommend this restaurant and it's my first experience with vegan dim sum and I'm already obsessed! It's a place both vegans and non vegans alike can enjoy and it's such a fantastic experience to dine here with the culmination of the food and eclectic ambiance. The service was also so friendly, prompt and helpful and they truly go over the top here to ensure you have an amazing time. We were also assisted by one of the owners, who was the sweetest and most accommodating. I could truly see how passionate she is about the restaurant. Parking is pretty easy in the surrounding neighborhood here, even on a busy Saturday night. I cannot wait to return soon!

The Asian-inspired interior is elegant and refined. Staff was cordial. But other than the novelty and nice teas (exceptional, high quality teas indeed), the food and value were a bit disappointing to me. We came on Mother's Day and tried their prix fixe high tea. There were 3 courses: the appetizers were cute in appearance with some special tastes; the main course (smorgasbord-like tea sandwiches) was dry and bland. Desserts, while a bit too sweet for our taste (after a culinary tour to Asia, my family now upholds the phrase "not too sweet" as the highest compliment to Asian desserts), were nonetheless tasty and flavorful, to be fair. Must give them accolades for the nice teas!! We tried 3 kinds: Milky Oolong, Milky Ruby, and an herb tea. None of them contains any milk or diary products. Not sure where they sourced their teas but the fragrances were exquisite! Their Oolong reminded me of the Taiwanese local-favorite Jin-Xuan (金萱) tea, where the locals used the term "milky" to describe the subtle aroma from the tea. Our high tea was about $70, so at the end it was about $90 per person, with taxes and gratuity. In a market where high end Beverly Hills restaurants are serving $40-ish prix fixe lunches, I find it hard to justify coming back here.

Each time I've come the waitstaff has been super friendly, and the food amazing. So, when planning a little birthday lunch for my mom's 81st birthday, this was one of the first places I thought of. My mom lives in south LA and we live in the valley, so after picking her up, we wouldn't have to travel far to eat. Although we planned to arrive to the restaurant at 2, traffic was horrible and we arrived at 230pm. After looking for parking, I dropped the fam off at 2:40 so they could sit and look at the menu while I found parking. I get a text from my husband saying they closed at 3 so hurry. This was news to me, as I thought they closed at 5. I found parking and rushed in at 2:48, to see my family outside the restaurant. Perplexed, I went in to ask if we could still eat, as it wasn't yet 3pm. No wait staff came to the front to greet me, so I walked in a bit and asked the waiter if it was okay to eat. The waiter said we close in ten. I said I thought the website said you closed at 5. I must have read it wrong. I understand, but it's not 3 and we came a bit of a distance and it's my mom's 81st birthday. The waiter, whose name is Jack, offered to ask the kitchen if they would still make food. I said yes please would you ask? While Jack was asking, another waiter asked me if I had been helped. I told him yes, that Jack was asking the kitchen if we could still have lunch. This waiter says, we're closing in 10. I'd like to have lunch too. And walks away. Yes, with shade. Jack returns and says it's fine as long as we can order within a few minutes of getting the menu. I say great and we all come in. The 2nd waiter takes our order with the least amount of personality he possibly can, and the whole lunch is slightly awkward and we're not able to truly enjoy ourselves with the feeling of "we better hurry up and eat" lingering. By the time we ordered and received our food (which was delicious as usual) , there were still 4 other groups of customers there, and we actually left the restaurant within a minute or two after the last customers before us. Also, no one came around to ask how our food was and if we needed anything. I'm giving 3 stars because this experience didn't quite sit right with me. Yes, it was near closing, but your doors weren't closed and there was no sign saying last call/order at 2:45 or anything like that. I feel like once the kitchen approved making our lunch, customer service should have been at its peak for paying customers, who gave no attitude and tried to be as polite with the ask as possible. It was not. I still tipped 25%, because Jack (waiter 1) was polite and my 81 old mama who I was celebrating raised me that way, but I'm not sure I'll patronize them again.
