I've been to Hot Wok once before and Quang is a fun, quirky man who is the be all end all at this small Chinese food restaurant in North Hollywood. He takes your order, disappears into the kitchen, then 10 minutes later brings you the food to go and, on occasion, allows you to stay and eat onsite but there are no more plates or service ware since Covid started. That all doesn't matter because-- THE FOOD IS REALLY GOOD!!! This is homemade Chinese food, wok-prepared and only using fresh ingredients, made by what would be your parent or grandparent if you were Chinese and very fortunate! Tonight's garlic chicken comes out piping hot, the large cut pieces of green pepper and onion and nice squares of chicken breast all covered over in a brown garlic sauce. I really like the quarter-size and thick water chestnut slices and crunch they provide too. It's tasty and needs only the tiniest amount of soy sauce. The wonderful and soft white rice that accompanies it sops up the sauce at the bottom of the pan and becomes something great in and of itself too... I'm a sucker for anything that's old school and personal and that has stood up to the test of time and Hot Wok and Quang himself? Brilliant I'm so glad I finally made it happen to order dinner here and meet Quok! Now that I know how easy it is to call and pick up I will definitely be back. I called my order in, got three entrees and rice, it was ready to be packed up when I arrived, and super hot and freshly cooked. My friend was running late for our dinner plans and it was still hot a half hour later (I did insulate the containers). I appreciated the friendly service and the food was great, my favorite was the kung pao shrimp but the tofu veggies were nice too. Quong, the owner, is the absolute best. Treats every customer like family. My fiancé has bad allergies, and Quong made the perfect plain chicken and broccoli for him. My cashew chicken was delicious, a good balance of savory and sweet with equal amounts veggies and chicken. He gave us a huge container of rice and triple checked that everything was okay. Could it be that I have found a delicious Chinese restaurant in my area? I dare not hope, but I think I just did. I'm recovering from food poisoning (NOT from this place) and was looking for something light and easy on the stomach. I found Hot Wok because they have a shrimp and vegetables in light sauce that seemed not so intimidating. And it was delicious! Like surprisingly good. I believe you can tell everything about a Chinese restaurant based on the way they prepare their shrimp. And this place takes time on their shrimp. It's good quality, cleaned and tender. The sauce was light but also so flavorful and delicious. I usually dread Chinese food nights at home because it's all been mediocre (at best), but now I can't wait to order from here and try more things on the menu and introduce it to my family. read more

The owner/chef is the only person there, and his name is Quong Ngo. He is warm, kind, and personable. He is a very experienced chef who knows what he is doing and he does it very well indeed. His delicious authentic Chinese food comes in generous portions with low prices, roughly $9 per chock-full, steaming hot container. He will ask you how many people you are feeding, and you can feed a family of four easily for about $38.00! The yummy food in this clean, small restaurant is take-out only, and he takes only cash, but you will be delighted with how scrumptious everything is. Please be sure to tip him well, because he is a treasure. :) He has a big menu, but he is careful to tell you which dishes are available that day and which are not. Treat yourself to his cashew chicken, beef broccoli, fried rice, and chow mein noodles. Each dish is so savory you probably won't need any extra seasoning like soy sauce. He recommends you taste the food first before adding anything. This is our second time getting dinner from him, and we didn't need to add a thing to either tasty meal! Our new go to for Chinese takeout!! Food is fresh and really hot as it is made to order, so we called ahead. They are open 6 days a week and I believe only the owner works there mostly so be sure to tip if you can. He was very generous with the portions for the price. My favorites were the broccoli beef and lo mein, however, my partner's favorites were the cashew chicken and fried rice. He's a one man operation so you have to be patient. Very trustworthy that all law enforcement frequents him daily. Every time we've visited when you were able to dine in, there was always law enforcement dining, too. In fact, one showed up and called his order in for pick up. I love being able to support a local business and this one is great. It's run by one guy by himself, and he is super nice as well as a great cook. Today I ordered the moo goo Gai pan, beef with broccoli, chicken lo mein, and a large hot and sour soup. A large white rice came with it. Everything was really good and my 4 year old asked for seconds on her chicken lo mein. I think all of the menu prices listed are old, but I ended up paying $31 for all that food. I learned through the reviews that everything was cooked to order so I tried it out. Now I understand why there is some disappointment in the reviews. Let's not get caught up no semantics. When people say this was the "Best Chinese Food" they ever had they mean American-Chinese food. Orange Chicken and Beef & Broccoli. You're not getting Beef Noodle Soup, Scallion Pancakes, or any Xiao Long Bao. You will get fresh cooked to order American Chinese favorites. You know it's fresh because he runs out of things.
