This sweet little restaurant is in my new neighborhood and I've been meaning to check it out. Then my handyman told me it's really good and that he eats there whenever he's working in the area. He's one of the smartest guys I know so I decided to finally go. It did not disappoint. It's a quaint indoor restaurant with a relatively small seating area. I got my food to go and the speed in which my order came out of the kitchen was lightening fast! The man who took my order - I'm assuming the owner - was so friendly and helpful. I asked him for his personal recommendation and he asked if I liked spicy (I do) and he said the garlic chicken. I got the garlic chicken and cheese wontons and they were both great. The wontons were nice and crispy - not soggy like most end up when you get them to go. The garlic chicken was packed with veggies and the sauce wasn't overly heavy. Been going here for over 20 years. Small place with great, quick service. Unfortunately, they changed their dumplings. They used to be the yummy traditional ones - big, filled with a generous portion of filling, excellent either pan fried or steamed. Now they are the little gyoza ones like many places serve. This place used to be good. Looked forward to eating here. Came in and ordered two dishes. One of them was of average quality and taste, the other was inedible. When I told the woman server about it she graciously offered to replace it with something else, which would be prepared 'to go'. I said that would be fine and ordered an order that is almost impossible to screw up: sweet and sour chicken. When I got home and opened the container I found a bunch of soggy, limp, apparently half-cooked chicken in a watery puddle. I then put the mess in the oven for 20 minutes to finish cooking it. I ate some, and an hour later got the runs. I certainly will never stop here again for a meal and recommend that you don't either unless you want bad, generic American-Asian slop. I had to laugh because as I went to run back to the car, the guy followed me out, lighting up and I wonder if my presence encouraged people to do this. As for the food, this was just okay. I don't know why I keep trying sesame chicken when I know I'm never going to find it as good as when I first had it. A great restaurant for some good very cheap American Chinese food! My group ordered about four different things to share family style and it cost about $50 in total. Definitely a great value especially for these trying times and in Los Angeles! This is definitely the place to go if you want to order a lot of food to share amongst a lot of different people. It's a small restaurant, so if you have a big party, wanting to sit down, it will be hard to find a room for you all to sit together. A party of four can fit comfortably had a table, but I would not recommend coming here as a group of six or more. The food came out quickly and you could tell it was freshly made to order. Came here for the first time on a Tuesday night. A hole in the wall, small place with a few tables not really spacious. The food was straightforward and good, it wasn't the best Chinese but for what you pay it's pretty decent. We got the shrimp noodle soup, usually you get like two shrimp, this was a whole bowl of shrimps and noodles, good broth also. The sweet and sour chicken and broccoli beef, very good very standard. I have been going to Rice Wok for almost 30 years, This place never disappoints me. I have dined there alone, or with other people and they are very consistent in what they do, how they make their food, to keeping the restaurant nice and clean. I think one of the men's name is Peter, if I am not mistaken. He is so sharp, gets your order right, doesn't rush you and knows what he is doing to make your dining experience an enjoyable one.
