Loved the lobby area vibe, it's dark, moody elegant. Check in was a breeze, Walt was very friendly and welcoming. The drink tickets were a nice little bonus! They had a great local blonde ale on draft and our kids enjoyed the smoothies. Nice short easy walk to the beach. Would recommend a sign letting guests know there is a hose near pool entrance to wash off feet. When we came back from beach we didn't know, I discovered it later on while exploring. The beach access doesn't have a wash station. The rooms don't really match the decor of the lobby a little outdated (we were on first floor which is a pet floor) so maybe they just weren't updated yet. But they were adequate especially for the price and location and extremely roomy!!! The beds could use a mattress topper they were a little hard for my liking. There was a great vibe to Hotel Alice with its retro decor. We enjoyed our overnight stay; we celebrated our anniversary there a short distance from our home in nearby Beaufort. The bar and breakfast were nice and reasonably priced. We were a little disappointed in that the hall carpet wasn't vacuumed during our stay and there were trash bags left in the hallway. Unfortunately, even with a no smoking policy and a high fines notice posted, we still detected a marijuana smell on our floor. read more

Such a hidden gem! Tucked back in a grove of trees is the Hotel Alice. Dog friendly with dog biscuits at front desk. We were given tickets for drinks in bar, but we dont drink. We checked out the free bikes and explored. Beach access was steps away. Lotion, shampoo, conditioner and shower gel were attached to the walls. Towels provided for pool. It is a true gem! read more

My mom brother, grandma, and I stayed, Mom made the reservation as our usual spot had some renovations going on. Only stayed here two nights, can tell that the hotel is dropping in quality, looking at their past amenities versus their current ones. Nothing was outright disgusting but the beds were as hard as a rock, the floor didn't feel clean, and the bathroom had rust spots. Staff were fairly nice. Hotel was easy to navigate. Didn't dare to try the food, seemed like all of the breakfast that was served was going to be microwaved food. Probably won't be back! It's a shame really, considering what a beautiful area this is. read more

I searched for a hotel on hotels.com for the same evening in the Southport, NC area. I came across Hotel Alice and made my reservation. When I entered the address into my gps it was 2.5 hrs from Southport!!! I immediately phoned hotels.com who stated that there was a cancellation fee of one night. They could only wave the fee if the hotel agreed to cancel my booking free of charge. They phoned and had to leave a message for the manager. I phoned the hotel and was told that the manager is in his office but he didn't answer his phone. I phoned right back and was told he's in a meeting. When they phoned me back, 10 minutes later, the manager had clocked out for the weekend!! This was a Thursday afternoon. The staff attempted to assist me and contacted the manager. I explained to them that the booking was made in error, in under 10minutes form first contact with them, and the manager refused to assist me with a cancellation. They charged my card regardless. This is pure greed!! read more

Room floor was so dirty my feet got dirty walking on it. I complained and asked them to mop. They said they did while I was gone but when I came back it still had grit and sand? on it. I spilled something on the bed so I pulled the sheets up from the mattress. When I came back later they just laid the sheets and blanket back down. I again had to go to the desk and ask for service. Went to the pool and some substance was floating in the corner. It looked like vomit. I alerted the staff and they said it was just pollen and suntan lotion. Pollen in late July? Was informed by other guest that 2 days prior someone had been vomiting in the pool and they never cleaned it. A guy came out with a paper towel and skimmed the water but it is very much still there. read more

The room was frankly just gross. Filthy ceiling with plaster falling apart. Noisy rickety beds. Hair and dirt and stains on everything. Lampshade with mildew all over it. Also a 4PM checking with $25 early fee is absurd, especially for the low quality. read more

People could not order breakfast or bar bites as listed on menu and hotel info as they were waiting on trucks to come in with supplies. The menu has approximately 6 items on it for breakfast..not many items kids would enjoy for $9.95. All items listed fruit w meal...as soon as customers came, they were told they have no fruit and are out of numerous other items. Disgruntled vacationers walked away. I just want to start off by saying, I was only this hotel for less than half an hour. I unpacked my car, settled my dog, and sat on the bed - which squeaked terribly. When I first walked in the room, it had a slight smell of ammonia or cat urine, and at that time was unsure if I needed to call and get a different room, but I wanted to get myself and my dog out of the car. I then received a phone call from the front desk, asking if I had an animal on premise - which I absolutely did. The reason I chose this establishment is because it was pet friendly, or said so on their website. I was informed that I needed to come down to the front desk and pay $100 non-refundable pet deposit. I asked where this information was on their website. I was told the pet policy is printed out up front and I would receive a copy after paying the $100. It was then I packed up my belongings and my dog, and went and stayed at the Hilton down the road. I was refunded the $10 parking fee that they don't tell you about, and the $25 early check-in fee if you arrive before 4:00 p.m.. A few days later my card was charged $100 pet fee, which was not authorized by me. I emailed the general manager, who said it was being taken to the operations manager, and the $100 fee still has not been refunded. I had to email the general manager twice to even get a response. And I've heard nothing back about $100 refund. Communication from them, has just ceased. I found nothing attractive at this hotel during my brief time there. You must cross the highway to gain beach access, the pool is 80 style apartment living quality. And the rooms are not up to par. I'm working with my bank to stop the unauthorized $100 charge since management has completely avoided me at this point. read more

can I offer more than 5 stars? Hotel Alice is starting to be on my main list of hotels you MUST stay at when in the area. not only has the cost been more desirable, but Sue has gone above & beyond as well. She always remembers me when I come and she even got me into my room earlier than check-in time so I could nab a few more hours of sleep. The hotel is clean, the pillows are incredibly soft--as is the bed (but firm!) you'll have no issues getting to sleep here. The rooms all have small kitchen areas equipped w a sink, microwave and dorm sized freezer. Theres even a living room as you come in, with a sofa large enough to accommodate 1-2 of your friends if you're expecting company. I've not yet tried their breakfast but staying there is probably one of the best kept secrets left on the island for accommodations. Let them roll out that red carpet for you sometime! read more
