Lovely property, front desk & valet staff were friendly & helpful, and our room was bright and clean. We stayed 2 nights. Room did not have a microwave, fridge or coffee maker but we honestly were not in the room enough to use them. The bed was comfortable and we slept well even though the room faced Broadway (I was sure some traffic or something would wake us, but nope). The only reason we did not give 5 stars is housekeeping and some things to fix. We were woken up both mornings by housekeeping knocking, not cool, especially the morning we were not checking out. And, they didn't give us the minimum # of towels after refreshing our room, or leave us any water. The faucet is very loose in the sink, but worked fine. And the main door to the room lets in all of the light from the hallway at night. It's not a good fit to the frame. Neither of these are deal breakers. We would definitely stay again. read more

I stayed here right before Christmas and was very pleased with the staff and overall ambience of the hotel. If you're seeking a boutique, European style hotel on the upper west side, this is a phenomenal choice. The bedrooms are very photographable, the beds are soft and comfortable, and everything was clean when I arrived. The only thing is that the rooms have vinyl wood flooring and the doors are thin, so sometimes noise travels. Despite that, my bed was far from the door and I slept soundly. Nice little beaux arts hotel on Broadway. Had a great room on seventh floor overlooking Broadway, Room was spacious and clean with a mini fridge and microwave. Hotel was renovated in 2023 and preserves the small character in an older hotel built in 1903. You get vouchers for the cafe next door for breakfast with great ham and cheese croissants and pastries with great coffee. Hotel has valet parking but there is a garage right down the street perpendicular to the hotel. I like the valet parking. Lot of restaurants nearby, 72nd street has a lot. For the money and convenience this was a nice hotel. Friendly people. read more

Pros: Excellent location. Helpful and kind staff. Vouchers to get coffee and pastries at great bakery downstairs. Cons: Tidy, but not clean. The bathroom was especially in need of disinfecting and a deep clean. The shower did not drain. The toilet did not function well. Not enough soundproofing. If you end up near quiet neighbors, you may not notice too much noise. You may only hear the guest room doors being closed - which is quite loud. But if you end up near noisy neighbors...it's terrible. On our last night there was a screaming baby who woke up our entire floor multiple times. It literally sounded like the baby was in our room. For the price, I expected more. I wouldn't stay here again. read more

I'm have to do this review in two parts because I'm missing some notes and I actually took notes on this hotel. Unfortunately I'm having trouble finding the notes with names of executional staff. I strongly strongly recommend staying here. The location is wonderful but what really makes this Hotel is the people who work there. Starting with the basics: the rooms are pleasant and by New York standards comfortably sized. The bathroom was immaculate, the linens were clean, and lovely and we had a pleasant little view out the window. The elevators are ridiculously small as benefits a building of this age. There were no problems with any kind of accessibility. I'm traveling with a person with a disability so it does make a difference. There were a lot of air crew who stayed there from a couple of airlines with a noticeably French presence. The French bakery which is adjacent makes a wonderful cup of coffee and their croissants are delightful. The hotel provides vouchers for your choice of something at the bar in the hotel or at the bakery next-door. We used both. I don't really know how to describe the level of hospitality that I experienced at Hotel Belleclaire except every single interaction was lovely. Occasionally you find a hotel or restaurant that so far exceeds your expectations that it puts a smile on your face for the rest of your day; my hotel experience here was like that. Thanks to everyone from the front desk to the doormen, with a particular mention of Cydney K at the front desk, Andrew, and....(back soon). Terrific Mothers Day experience. At check in I was offered Prosecco and although I didn't accept it was a nice touch. We were upgraded to a room in the 'tower' that was a huge bay overlooking B'way. Excellent soundproofed windows, water bottles at both night tables, TV worked fine, good WiFi. Breakfast in the bakery on the ground floor was well organized and the room was full of international types. The bathroom was a bit small and the toilet paper was quite a reach, but otherwise very enjoyable. We were on the second floor so accessed the stairs. read more

| Disappointing and Frustrating Experience -- Misleading "Pet-Friendly" Claims The location of Hotel Belleclaire is great, and Maya at the front desk truly deserves recognition! She was kind, personable, and empathetic throughout a very stressful situation. The room we booked also looked comfortable and spacious, albeit we could hear every word from the conversation of the room next door, and after doing prior research and planning this trip to celebrate a 30th birthday, we were genuinely expecting a five-star stay. Unfortunately, this review falls three stars short due to misleading branding, poor communication, and deeply disappointing management response. Hotel Belleclaire advertises itself as "ideal for pet owners visiting New York City" We learned firsthand that this is not accurate, and the rug pull happens at check-in. Not during booking. Not when calling ahead to confirm our pet was listed on the reservation. Only upon arrival were we informed that dogs cannot be left unattended in the room under any circumstances. We love our dog and bring him with us most of the time when stepping out; but it was January, and we had a 2.5-hour Broadway show planned for our third night. When we explained this, the front desk staff member (again, kind and professional) escalated the issue to a manager so we could clarify why this policy had never been disclosed despite multiple touchpoints. We had just traveled over five hours and were trying to find a reasonable solution. The first manager we spoke to would not even make eye contact while speaking with us. At that point, it became clear this hotel is simply not a good fit for pet owners, which we can accept. Policies are policies. What we cannot accept is false advertising and the complete lack of transparency around such a significant restriction. In my opinion, this situation could have been handled with an apology, a refund, and assistance in finding alternative lodging. I probably wouldn't be writing such a poor review had this been the case. Instead, when the issue was escalated to Kevin Hong, Manager of Rooms, we were met with hostility. We were told--verbatim--"Well, we don't put that information on the website because no one would stay here." No solutions were offered. No recommendations. No empathy. We were told we had 30 minutes to leave the hotel. This left us scrambling to repack, search for last-minute lodging, and figure out next steps as it began snowing and the sun went down. We also missed a dinner reservation we had booked and were charged a no-show/last-minute cancellation fee as a result. The kicker? Another party traveling with us later called the front desk to ask about bringing a dog on a future stay. They were told yes. When they specifically asked whether they could step out to eat, run errands, or attend the hotel's advertised wine hour without the dog, they were told: "That shouldn't be a problem!" So which is it? If you are looking for truly pet-friendly accommodations, do your research and ask very specific questions--especially about whether dogs can be left unattended or crated. We later learned that many competing hotels do allow this. And even if you don't have pets, ask yourself whether you want to stay somewhere this mismanaged if an issue were to arise. read more

It's an older building, but in very good shape. The elevators are small, and there's really only one, plus a freight elevator. So they were some pretty long lines for the elevator. I like it--I get what they're going for with the trendiness of the interior design, etc. I would say that the room I had was a bit spartan--it had more space than one would expect for a room in the upper west side, but the space was devoid of furnishings; it felt sterile and cold, a bit. I wish there could have been, at least, a comfortable chair to lounge in or something--there was certainly space for it. The staff was kind--shout out to Ms West at the front desk; very nice lady. We had a nice overnight stay. This is a location that is near where our kids live and very convenient for us. The staff was friendly and check in and check out was very efficient. The facility itself has been updated. Like most NY city hotels, our room was small but well maintained and well set up. There were plenty of electric outlets and the lighting in the room was very good. We got a voucher to use at the bakery next to the hotel. The baked goods were very good. read more

Such a disappointment. I paid more for a place that seemed more exclusive. From the start, the ac was weak and the shades were broken. To be fair the staff came and fixed it; however later that night we could hear full volume conversations in the next room and a screaming child until 330 am. This is a classic NY hotel that I would say is great for weekend warriors but I've been here for 8 nights and it IS NOT a business class hotel. It's clean but that's it. The internet sucks, the rooms are tiny, the tv sucks, I hear old pipes clanging and the elevator clicking through the walls. Like I said, it's ok if you're traveling and here for a night or two buts it's not business class. Can't wait to go home tomorrow. read more

We loved the location, staff, and the adjacent cafe for pastries and coffee. Our room was a shoebox, no closet so no hangers for clothes. Our daughter is attending college in NYC and this hotel was recommended to me by a friend. I've now stayed twice at Hotel Belleclaire, once in a one-bed room and once in a two-bed room. While the rooms are small, the furnishings are luxurious, beds, pillows & sheets are cozy and the shower is bright and airy. Of course, what will continue to bring me back to Hotel Belleclaire is the location, staff and delicious patisserie attached to the hotel. And apparently a big bonus for my children, a LUSH store on the other side. One- the location in the Upper West Side. It's right in the middle of great restaurants, boutique gyms like Solid Core and Soul Cycle, two blocks from the subway and conveniently across the street from a CVS. It feels safe and swanky. Two- the staff. Cydney, at the front desk, went above and beyond (so cliche but honestly, this is 100% accurate) to accommodate our family of four during our two nights there. Every interaction with the staff- doormen, luggage retrievers and cleaning women- were pleasant and courteous. Third and last- the patisserie. It is delicious! You get a $10 voucher per person which feels like a rarity in NYC and the food does not disappoint! My favorite which I had almost every day was the smoked salmon breakfast sandwich (which I'd also eat at lunch). Plenty of beautiful french baked goods and the coffee is so much better than Starbucks. I'll be coming back every time! read more

What could improve? Everything. The photos of the room on Booking.com are not what you get. They are small and don't have anywhere to put your things. Small is fine because that's NYC but make it efficient. Shelves, hooks, places to put things. Don't be fooled! When guests are asked to take the time to answer a survey for feedback, it's been my experience when they find the experience unsatisfactory they are offered some kind of compensation if you want them to return. Mr. Metic, offered empty words of we messed up and we will take care of you next time. They clearly don't care. Reviewing my receipt there is a $29 amenity charge. My husband asked me, what amenities did we get? We got three complementary bottles of water when we arrived. We didn't use $60 worth of bakery coupons because, while delicious, they didn't offer anything for those who can't eat sugar every morning. When I asked if $60 of unusable coupons could be credited to our bar tab ($75), the representative said it was too late. It had to be requested prior. Additionally, you pay $3800 for six nights and we had no place to put our toiletries, limited housekeeping for the week. I requested a change of sheets when my son became ill, which never arrived. The windows do not open even a crack so the air in the room was stagnate and we could smell cigarette smoke from other rooms both morning and night. They claim it's a non-smoking hotel. I requested a fan which helped. The lack of ventilation contributed to family members falling ill.  I find it hard to believe at the price we paid there is no light in the closet where my suitcase had to be crammed on top the lock box and when I requested luggage stands, they brought one for three of us. I would never go back mainly because of how they handled our requests and unsatisfactory feedback. The area is ideal because it's our old neighborhood but will seek other options on next visit. If you want to stay on the UWS there are other options. read more

We stayed at the Belleclaire from October 17, 2024, and checked out a day early on the 21st of October. I was there for a wedding. My experience at the Belleclaire was disappointing. When I got to my room there was no place to unpack my bag. We lived out of our suitcases on the floor. There was no chest of drawers or luggage rack. Standard room items that we should not have to ask for. An ironing board that I requested three times finally arrived too late after we were in bed. I didn't have much faith that anything else we asked for would be delivered. We were very busy with the wedding and didn't have time to ask for another room and still be on time for wedding events. We considered changing hotels, but there wasn't the time. There was mold in the bathroom, the mirror was coming off the wall, the toilet seat was never cleaned. I checked out a day early and the hotel kindly waived an early check out fee of $50 and the resort fee. A month ago I wrote to the hotel Manger, Mr Fahey telling him of our disappointment and asking for some consideration. I sent an email and a USPS letter. After 2 weeks and no answer, I sent it again. Today is November 23rd and as of yet no answer. To not even acknowledge receipt of an email and a letter is just simply rude and uncalled for. It unfortunately sadly demonstrates a lack of responsiveness to a customer who often travels to NYC and has many family members there. I cannot in good conscience recommend this property POST SCRIPT: After posting this on Yelp and Trip Advisor I was contacted by Mr. Fahey, who was apologetic about not having gotten back to me sooner. Apparently he hadn't seen the emails or the letter until today. I appreciate his getting back to me and his commitment to improve on the areas that were identified in this review and in my longer letter and emails to him. read more

My new GO TO HOTEL! The Belleclaire was such a great place to stay! The staff was so welcoming , friendly and accommodating! From the man who helped us with our luggage to the people at the front desk to housekeeping! The lobby was so beautiful, the chandeliers, the floor, the artwork and loved the music! Great vibe! The halls were beautiful with tasteful wallpaper, sconces, and carpet. Our room was spacious, clean, and the bed was very comfortable! It was quiet to sleep, which surprised us.! Great little touches, like the remote being in platic, so we knew it was clean and untouched by others! They even had a personalized note and miffins from the french bakery downstairs! Great touch! We had fun shopping with our vouchers they gave us for the bakery! All in all, it was a great experience, and look forward to our next stay there!!! read more

Amazing hotel for the price point. The rooms were modest but very clean and thoroughly functional. I wished that they had an in-room coffee maker or a microwave but they kindly provided an electric tea pot to boil water. The "free breakfast" was a $10 voucher for a bakery that was on property and opened at 7am. It was possible to get an espresso and a chocolate croissant for the amount on the voucher. We stayed at this hotel for 14 days. Our room was very spacious and had a magnificent view of Broadway from the 6th floor. The room was newly renovated and decorated nicely. The bathroom was small but very functional with a walk-in shower and all new installations. I just looked at the pictures some previous guests posted here but I'm guessing they were from before the renovation was made. I would definitely stay here again. Beware! I had my first lengthy stay at the Belleclaire in early March, and there were a number of problems. THE GOOD: Great location. Close to the 1 train. Safe neighborhood. Friendly staff. Updated spacious bathrooms. Adjustable temperature in rooms. Comfortable bed. THE BAD: -The rooms are MINISCULE, even by NYC standards. I am a seasoned former New Yorker, and I know NYC hotel rooms. These are like little cells that you can barely turn around in. There was no place to put my suitcase. There were no drawers to put my things in -- just a teeny-tiny closet. -They claim to have free wifi, but the signal is SO BAD I had to rig my computer up to a hotspot through my cell phone service. I called the front desk about this, and they said the signal was fine. IT'S SO WEAK. This remained true for a whole week. -This is a NOISY hotel. You can hear through the walls and everything going on around you. -The bathroom has no bar or hook in it to hang a wash rag despite tons of wall space. There is one teeny-tiny shelf that is not nearly big enough to put even a few travel size toiletries. I'm guessing this space was designed by a man. Just put a larger shelf in there! There is no place to prop your leg if you want to shave your legs. Again, designer was not considering women here. -The elevators are teeny-tiny. Maybe 4 humans can fit in one, and that's without a suitcase. -The hallways are so narrow, you can't roll a normal size suitcase. -The hotel has no business center, so don't expect to be able to print anything out. There is one teeny-tiny desk in the room, but not enough space to spread out anything if you are doing work. This is a cool old building that was renovated, but it's a space not meant to be a hotel, IMHO. read more

The staff are attentive, the location is great, vouchers for Mille feuille totally beat your traditional continental hotel breakfast (yeah the baked foods are great but don't sleep on the vegetarian quiche, it's superb). However, I didn't sleep well any of the 3 nights here. The bed is not great. It's ny so of course the rooms are tiny, at least if you get one of the queen bed rooms. But because of that the bed was about 2 feet from the door, and you can hear everything happening in the hallway, and the room doors slam. I woke up a bunch from doors slamming and people talking in the hall. Also the hotel is set up where there are hallways of rooms separated by alleyways so the view outside of my window was into other peoples rooms-- so you need to keep your blinds shut. Because the queen room is so tiny, beware of overpacking--there's no where to leave a big suitcase open and very little space to unpack. And before I came I was curious how the meal vouchers work: you get $10/person/per day, and they give you all of them at once, so you can combine them (as in, use 2 vouchers in one transaction). read more

This hotel is so very well located by subway, central park, and restaurants. I usually stay mid-town, and this upper west side area is quite nice. More residential. Safe. Museums. THe hotel itself is very nice. We had a very small but updated bath (frameless glass door, good towels, newish sink, great water pressure) and a King? bed. Nice soaps. No bathrobe as stated on website-- but a very good hairdryer. The pastry shop is really really quite nice. Like Paris. and there is a cute little bar later in the day. One bed had a few crumbs in it and looked like it had been slept in. Bathroom was dirty, hair everywhere etc) rooms weren't so hot. Same thing other reviewers have written. Missing hardware, cracked sink, silver duct tape all over window. See photos if you think I'm exaggerating. I thought maybe my experience was an anomaly or that they're going through a rough patch. Ok, I've watched enough HGTV in my life to know that it's difficult (and not recommended according to the Property Brothers) to live in-house through a renovation. This place has a special spot in my heart and admittedly, if that spot wasn't there, this review would be worse. The Belleclaire got dealt a crap hand during the pandemic and it's going to take a while for them to get back on their feet, but much like New York itself, it will get there. That being said, It's still a great location not far from Central Park and the 72nd street subway. The staff is friendly and attentive and when the local coffee shop was shut down in the blizzard, they brought in Dunkin for the guests, so a major win! I love that the Broadway entrance is now open, and so the lobby has a much bigger feel. One day they will get their bar, and that will be incredible. At first I was annoyed that these talked about plans from 8 years ago have not come to fruition, and I feel bad for the staff. But when you think about permits, cost and again, the crap hand dealt to them in 2020, all I can do is hope that funds for these renovations don't fizzle out and the Belleclaire falls to the wayside. It's too beautiful of a historic building to become forgotten. Yes you're going to hear construction if you're in your room during the day. My question to you is, why on God's green Earth are you in your hotel room in Manhattan in the middle of the day? There's a reason why people pay through the nose to have a small crap studio apartment (been there, guilty!) It's because nyc is right outside your door, that's your backyard, that's what you pay for. Long story short- if you want perfection, this place isn't it, not yet. But if you don't mind a bit of a fixer upper and find that they're having a good deal on hotels.com or whatnot, give them a shot. Otherwise, put it on your list a few years from now. read more
