AVOID!!!! We have tried this place so many times and they continue to disappoint. They attempted to over charge us on multiple occasions, refused to charge properly and the menu is just not good. I wish they could get there act together, but it is not working. read more

This place is a secret gem. I have never stayed here but I have been coming to their restaurant for about 15 years. First off, the view is to die for. The restaurant has a deck that is over the ocean waves. Need I say more? It is really beautiful and serene. All about the food: I have never had a bad meal here. Appetizers: Crab and Lobster Claws in Garlic Sauce (rich and succulent) Calamari (best calamari we have ever had), it was smokey tasting, just wonderful! Lobster Bisque (Wow AMAZING) Basket of Bread (super soft and good) Dinner: Combo Tray for Two, it had a whole grilled fish, shrimp, chicken, beef and grilled vegetables. It came with fresh made tortillas. Dessert: We took Flan to go and it was delicious! This place is one of those places I hate sharing because it is so amazing and I want to keep it for myself! But they deserve to be known about. So if you are visiting Rosarito or Ensenada, you need to come have dinner here. From Rosarito, it is about 5 miles south towards Ensenada. You will see it on the coast side with a big cross and bell. Looks like an old white mission. ENJOY! read more

If I could give zero stars...I would! The place I stayed was remodeled...but I was not aware that there was not air conditioning!!! You might not need it year round!! But it was HOT AF AND NO AIR! The spot and view from here are spectacular! Rooms need so much work and renovations. Seemed like the sheets and bedding had been slept in, who knows when they were last washed :/ I don't recommend you stay here but do come to their restaurant and bar. Hotel has great views, the cucumber margarita is BOMB! Just a few months ago the service was great, but towards the end of September they fired and got new staff. Rooms are definitely in need of an upgrade, they are charging too much when half of them don't work. The NEW wedding coordinator doesn't know anything about weddings!!! This is her first wedding coordinating job... My friend just had her wedding there, although the venue is old it turned out beautiful.. But not thanks to the wedding coordinator who never even bothered showing up at the wedding, but to my friends good taste and the flower ladies creations. Calafia Hotel and Restaurant is so beautiful and historic, just walking in the front entrance was a great experience. And if that wasn't enough, the staff were super friendly and professional. Our server, Santiago took great care of us and the food was delicious! After we ate, we received a first class visit from Carlos, the general manager. What an amazing experience! Great place for a wedding... Please believe these bad reviews regarding accommodations. In room 160 we enjoyed: rickety ceiling fan, no fitted sheet just a flat sheet on top of a naked mattress, no AC, no hot water in the sink only the shower, sink took 10 minutes to drain and had a wobbly broken faucet, a dangerous broken lightbulb in the light over the sink. Don't even think about calling the front desk because there's no phone. I wasn't that surprised by our rustic stay, but I was surprised they charged us $75 a night. read more

This hotel is horrible!! I called 9/27/15 for a room reservation. On the phone she said to pay in person (no cards accepted). We arrived 10/9/15 to the hotel to find out WE DIDNT HAVE A ROOM!!! I have a lot of love for this hotel. It is an old mission with a beautiful story and a breathtaking view. They have made a lot of upgrades to the dinning area but the rest of the hotel seems to be falling apart. There are many many repairs that need to be done and they have also recently raised there prices even though quality is going down. This place has a great view, and has great history not to mention some part of the Titanic where filmed there... but it's really expensive, bad pluming some rooms don't have hot water, other the water wont flush and in some of my other friends rooms who stayed there had fleas, if you rent this for a weeding very bad service, and subpar food, for just the view is not worth it there are other options better and cheaper, I won't go back there. I'm giving this 4 out of 5 starts because I really enjoyed my stay here. Although I can be a picky American myself, and a spoiled princess, I'm also not naive and am aware of what Im getting into going to Rosarito. So most of the bad reviews are because people expect to walk into a 5 star hotel but hello you are paying the price of a Motel 6 and this is why. The rooms are plain. A bed, a toilet, and a simple small table to place your things. The area looks skecthy, I was kinda skeptical of leaving our car too far from our room. The doors were hard to get to lock properly but they lock. There are no TVs in the room which I thought was a nice touch however if you are traveling with kids, not so convenient. I was there with my BF for our anniversary weekend. I wasnt there to watch TV and with the views and food in the area, you shouldn't be in your room watching TV either. The hotel itself needs LOTS of love on the outside. We stayed in room 109 with a BEAUTIFUL ocean view. Room had no AC but we didnt need it, weather is perfect in June. (June 18th 2016 to be exact) We had a decent bed (I'll admit I didnt get under the sheets, just the top blanket) , hot running water, a sink and a mirror. What more do you need. Had a big spacious balcony that I loved, a view that I loved and the beach steps away from my room which I fully enjoyed on the pool lounge chairs they had on the beach. Were they fancy and new? No. I layed a towel on it and lounged. We brought our own cooler down to the beach and no one bothered us. There was only one more couple on the beach with us but there was so much space we still had privacy. Drank a little, smoked a little and headed to Puerto Nuevo to enjoy the biggest lobster Ive ever had! Puerto Nuevo is only about 10 min away. Wifi is horrible and luckily I have AT&T and had service thru my provider. My BF on the other hand has TMobile and got zero service so he had to walk to the front desk to get some wifi. Next day we woke up for the free brunch which was really good and served on the big beck that looked out to the ocean. We were able to explore the other side of the hotel, and wow so much space and so much history. Im such a nerd and loved its historical value with its missionary style. We ended up talking to them about getting married here and I literally cried just thinking it can be here. Beautiful wedding views! it was a but high on the price end but I can see why. Compared to the other venues Ive seen this place is much better. Its so big, and would be amazing if someone invested some money into it. Its a huge property with lots of hidden area, places to enjoy the beach/view and places to chill. If your looking for a fancy nights stay or looking to get married at a resort you are at the wrong place. If your adventurous, open minded and a hopeless romantic like myself, come check it out. This place is very interesting with a lot of history you can learn while there. Front desk guys were so friendly and helpful! I was in a panic because Hotel Castillo Del Mar didnt honor my reservation and we were SOL but Im glad they sent us here. They made us feel at home and let us do whatever. Bring your own towels, bring your own blanket/pillows for comfort and enjoy your stay. I sure did. Enjoy it as a couple but its also a great place to hang with friends as it has a bonfire and places to BBQ right on the beach. Fell asleep and woke up to crashing waves. Pictures Posted. read more

I get it Calafia is one of the oldest Hotels in Baja, but that doesn't mean they can't renovated at least the rooms. I came here for a family wedding and we are not familiar with the Rosarito area. So we wanted to stayed were the wedding was taking places at. The rooms floors were dirty. I tried showering no hot water. That was enoughfor the $50 rooms. Than we tried staying at the most expensive rooms for $60. The restrooms were better. We got hot water. The bed mattress were still the same really uncomfortable. The ceiling fan made loud noise. But somehow some of the $60 rooms had AC but not mine. The wedding scenery was nice, but for $10,000.00 I wouldn't recommend. PS, there's a a really nice Hotel called Ola's Grand I think right next to it. I don't know how much rooms go for but pretty sure is worth it. read more

Worst hotel experience I've ever seen. Firstly the owner (over the phone from the lobby) lied saying she did not find my reservation and that they didn't have any rooms. She asked me how I made the reservation and as soon as I said hotels.com (a 10000% legitimate booking site) she said they have not sent her anything and then started complaining about the service not paying them in the past. I could immediately tell this was not about my reservation but a personal issue with hotels.com (aka Expedia). The guy behind the desk told me it's not true, that they do have rooms but he isn't being authorized to check me in. I told them this was terrible customer service. The owner wasn't even willing to work with me. Hotels.com tried contacting them to communicate but the owner refused to take their call. There were no other hotels nearby with vacancy and I ended up having to drive 2 hours back to San Diego at 2am. read more

Fraudulent waiter stole my debit card information. Avoid this place at all costs. In my entire time in Mexico I used my debit card ONE TIME at the Calafia Restaurant paying $16.38. Soon after using my card here I began getting transactions throughout Tijuanna in amounts of $163.13 while I was in another city. If you move the decimal from 16.38 to the right you get $163. The waiter seemed very nervous when he handed me back my card as well. Now I have to deal with the unnecessary drama of having to report unauthorized transactions to my bank and cancel my card in order to be reimbursed. I had one of the most important events of my life here, back 2/2016. We dealt with 3 wedding coordinators throughout the process of initiating the contract and the actual event. We had the "best" of the "best" package. My expectations were high due to the amount of money we were paying for the "Old Mission style" and for Mexico prices. They did not meet my expectations by any means necessary. I was promised a Chef ( never got to meet with one) only a caterer ( that cooked out of her home kitchen). They scheduled food tasting appointments and they were cancelled with no notice ( after we took time off of work and drove almost 3 hours and stayed at a hotel). I was promised open bar for the event ( from cocktail hour and on) They ran out of beer a little after cocktail hour. I was promised the most beautiful cake, I got a cake that was for maybe 60 people when I had 130 guests ( the cake was collapsing and it looked nothing like the picture.) I almost cried when I saw the cake. The rooms are in great need of renovations. It's hard to communicate with the person in charge of the hotel. From my room, I was able to see the water hitting the rocks from a huge crack on the floor of my room. I got burned with hot water as the shower head had a mind of it's own and it threw water everywhere. I discourage anyone from having their event at this place. It's so sad because they have amazing views and location. If they focused on customer service and basic clean up, they can go a long way. Also, WIFI only works in the rooms closest to the main lobby. service was horrible at the restaurant. had to return the steak twice because it was very undercooked. cancelled our order after the second time. had ordered appetizers but the appetizers came at the same time as the main dish. cancelled the appetizer but they still wanted to charge for it. i have been here several years ago and everything was great.
