A nice hotel on the outskirts of Alamo Plaza. This hotel is in an old office building built in 1909, and some of the old architectural details were kept. It's in a great location, across the street from the Alamo, a block from the Riverwalk. We parked our car when we got there, and didn't need to use it the entire trip. The room was spacious, the bed comfortable, amenities in the bathroom, and the hot breakfast buffet was good. There is a small bar you can get a beer or wine at in the late afternoon/evening. Great stay! We stayed here for 2 nights and were concerned about our room location being right off the elevator and it being a old hotel but there were no issues! We slept great in the comfy beds with no outside sounds. The staff was helpful and kind. The location was AMAZING!! Literally caddy corner to the Alamo. We were able to walk everywhere and only needed our car to attend the concert we were going to. The hotel is beautiful and very well kept. I loved seeing the old elevators and the mail slot from the original office building. My only issue was that is there isn't a pool/hot tub and were not fridges in the room. It was a girls weekend so it would have been nice to store drinks in our room. But that was on us for not looking more into the hotel amenities. Also the breakfast was VERY good! Don't stay here over a weekend, especially if you like to sleep at all. We're on the top floor, and the noise outside is so loud we can't sleep. Thumping music, yelling, and motors revving all sounds like it's on the other side of our wall (it's not.) One of the two elevators is broken, the ice machine on our floor is broken, and there's a keurig coffee maker but no cups. There's no free parking, either, so that adds a decent amount to each night's stay. Additionally, the air kicked on and the system is ancient, so it's very loud, too. (1st world problems, I know, but it's frustrating when you spend your hard-earned money on a relaxing weekend, and you can't relax). I will say that the bed and pillows are comfortable, and the Art Deco design of the building is cool. There are a lot of restaurants near here, too. The Hotel Gibbs has potential, but falls short of expectations. Disappointing. read more

I was familiar with the Riverwalk and hotels. We needed a room that was a suite. I broadened my search and found the hotel Gibbs just two blocks from the river walk. When I read about it, I was intrigued with its history I booked three rooms, one was a suite. While it lacked a large lobby, everything else made up for it. The staff at check-in couldn't have been nicer, including the valet for moving the cars. They do use a separate company, but it was very efficient. The rooms were spacious and clean. The bathroom in our double was quite small, but clean. I very much appreciated how quiet the halls were and doors and walls seem so solid that you didn't hear traffic any traffic. The bathroom in the suite was spacious and lovely. The prices reflect that it is an independent hotel and a couple blocks off the river. The neighborhood is fine and you have the Alamo right across the street walkable to restaurants and bars and shopping. I definitely plan to stay there again. read more

This is a great hotel! The room I got had a nice view of buildings in San Antonio and the Alamo, the room was also clean and smelled fresh, checking in was great, and the employees were nice. The only 2 problems about the hotel is that it was built in 1909, which isn't much of a problem for me, and the shower wasn't the best. The best part was that the prices were good. Such a historical hotel! The location is perfect, right on a corner lot, walking distance to the Riverwalk, the Alamo and a bunch of bars (most were closed when we arrived). Parking was a little tricky, we ended up parking in the lot next to the hotel for $25 for 24 hours - using the ParkWhiz app. We walked in and we were immediately greeted and checked in by this lovely lady (I forgot her name unfortunately). You can tell the hotel was upgraded but a lot of original aspects were kept. She told us the hardwood floors were the original floors from when the building first opened in 1905 and how the building was the first commercial building in that area. We take the elevators up to our room - super cool that they kept the original elevator doors and just made a new elevator right behind it - we get to our room and it was extremely cozy. Small but very clean and well upgraded. Bathroom was modern, bed was comfy and the AC worked perfectly. It was crazy to think we were staying in a room that was once an office from the early 1900's lol. The hallways are a little "creepy" to say BUT only because it was late at night and you feel like your in an old doctors office/hospital lol. Either way, we thought it was super cool and enjoyed every minute of it. We walked around the area late at night and it was very quiet. There was people still out and about, minding their business. NICE, CLEAN, COMFORTABLE HOTEL I wasn't too impressed with the hotel but I was impressed with the room. Very nice and clean. The room wasn't huge but it felt spacious and we had a view of the Alamo from our room. Our room had a Kerig coffee machine, and a hairdryer in it but no fridge and no microwave however there is one microwave on the lobby available for use. The hotel is an old office building from the early 1900's that was converted to be a hotel. It's nice, clean, unique, and interesting but there wasn't much to see in the hotel and not many amenities accept for a gym. No Pool. Breakfast was all prepackaged items, no hot food. Parking for the hotel is in a public paid parking lot next door. The lot is uncovered, no security and anyone can loiter in it. We encountered a few homeless people outside the hotel asking for change. Parking is $15 for 23 hours and $10 for 12 hours. You buy a ticket from machine and place it on your dashboard. read more

Fun one-night stay. Alamo across the street and Riverwalk is a quick walk in the other direction. History of the place is charming and the woman at the front desk told the story beautifully. We checked out the old vault and used the complimentary drink coupon at the bar. Room was very quiet and sleep was pretty good. Only complaints are there is no self-park available (only valet parking at $30+ ) and there is no shelf in the shower to put your toiletries. It would have been nice if the full-length mirror was outside the bathroom so I can get dressed while Boyfriend was in the shower. Also the blackout shades don't go around the corner of the window so not much got blacked out. Worth coming here for the staff, location and some interesting guests at the bar. read more

Word of advice when staying at this hotel...check your card statements and get a receipt when checking out. I was charged for 3 rooms and only had 2 rooms. They charged me for my dad's room and charged his credit card, as well, for the same room. Also charged me for 4 nights (10/7 - 10/11) on one of the rooms when I physically checked out at the front desk for both rooms at 6 a.m. on 10/10. When I called the front desk manager, Heather, she told me she couldn't do anything to fix this issue until her GM, David Recknagle, comes in on Thursday (10/14) and was also advised that I could dispute it with my credit card company. Gracie took care of our car and luggage and let us leave the car there till 3p. She was very nice. Valet even went to get boots out of the car for us. Across the street from the Alamo. THIS RATING HAS TO DO WITH THE SERVICE THAT WAS PROVIDED BY THE NIGHT RECEPTIONIST LINDA. When traveling for business the last thing you want to do is have issues with the staff. First my key card demagnetized twice and I had to come get my key re issued. First time was a breeze staff apologized gave me a key. Linda chose a different path. She decided to place the blame with me and with attitude. It appeared she was being a tough guy because there were officers there she was talking to and seemed irritated I asked her to re issue my a key. I then asked her for a wake up call and I never received a wake up call. I had a feeling but I just think this is very bad reflection on a hotel that does a great job for the most part employs Linda who is not customer service oriented. read more

We stayed here for our anniversary in November. The hotel was beautiful but unfortunately they stole my new clothes. I realized just a few hours after we checked out that I left my new silk skirt, skims, and tank on a bench in the bathroom. I called immediately and described the items. They told me that housekeeping had left for the day but that they would leave a note and call me in the morning. The next morning, nothing. I called them again and they checked with housekeeping and said nothing was found, but that they might have accidentally thrown it in the laundry with the bedding so I should call the next day. I called for a third time and they said nothing was found. Someone definitely pocketed my brand new clothes that cost $200+. Items should remain in lost and found for at least a week, not be stolen the same day. On top of that, there was a club outside our window (we weren't even on the first floor) blasting music, bass thumping until past 2:00 am. The walls were paper thin so it was hard to sleep. Staff was super friendly Sarah was quite helpful, evening desk clerk, as well as Damion, the valet. We were situated on 3rd floor beautiful room. Ceilings are sophisticated, detailed, gorgeous lighting. The Room was clean pleasant bathroom very nice. There was a hum throughout the night; however, Front desk clerk explained it is an older building water is circulating throughout the night because of the colder climate. We came to San Antonio to see my daughter graduate from technical school in the Airforce. We wanted a location downtown and close to the river walk. This hotel is a very short walk from many restaurants, bars, shops and tourist attractions. We checked in and used the valet parking for our rental car. Everyone was very pleasant. Each time we went in and out of the hotel we were always pleasantly greeted. The breakfast in the morning is very good. Lots to choose from. We stayed in a King room on the 4th floor. The room was clean and the shower had fantastic temperature and water pressure. It's an older building, but they take care of it. We would stay there again without question. read more

Everyone that works at Hotel Gibbs were more than accommodating, welcoming and flexible! Fabian, the bar tender is so nice and amazing! He is super down to earth and can point you in the right direction to some amazing eats and music! He took the time to get to know my fiancé and I, this all added to the amazing experience we have had here at Hotel Gibbs! Also, there is complimentary breakfast in the morning. It's is self serve, with staff nearby to help you if needed. A good variety and great flavor! We will definitely be staying here again when we come back to San Antonio! We were extremely happy with our stay! We only stayed for night, but loved the atmosphere of the place. The connected taproom is a huge plus as beer and wine is $4...a steal! Additionally, the head bartender is AWESOME. We talked with him for hours and it really aided to the atmosphere of the place. The walls are thin and everything can be heard....yes everything....even the couple next door having a lot of "fun" over the sound of their music. We weren't bothered, but I figured I should include the thinness of the walls in the review for those that are bothered by this. The location can't be beat. The Alamo is across the street and river access in only about a 5 minute walk. The only downside is parking. There is none. We were a little unprepared for this, but having experience in downtowns of cities, I knew I just needed to look at my options... the hotel does have valet, but we parked at the St. Mary's public garage down the street for a grand total of $5. Very pleased with this, and the walk was only 5 minutes. I would definitely recommend to anyone. read more

Advertised as a luxury hotel, doesn't live up to that. Good points: you can get a fridge if you ask for one and it's available. Valet parking available ($34 + tax daily). This place is across the street from the Alamo, if you want to visit...and you can walk most anywhere from here. Not-so-great points: There is no "welcome drink" or complimentary water as advertised on the website....that's fine, we brought our own beverages. I witnessed a guest politely ask the front desk clerk for a complimentary water, whereby the clerk said they did not have such a thing...then waved her off dismissively stating: "I'm not going to argue with you, just go take a water ($2.00 a bottle downstairs in concession area). When we came into our room: floors are pretty gross, trash all over them, a half used bottle of lotion was in our bathroom, and one washcloth. We asked for washcloths and were told they ran out and more were "on order." Our room had missing light bulbs and lampshade/deflectors--which we thought odd. It has the feel of an understaffed place with underinformed employees who struggle to keep up with what the hotel offers its guests. read more

So apparently, this hotel is HAUNTED. It is formerly the Indigo (now moved) and formerly built on grounds that were part of the Alamo. Google an article titled "The Haunted Hotel Indigo At The Alamo" and you can read all the details of the former soldiers and what went on in the hotel. There's been online reviews of the sounds of moans, screams and ghostly kids running around. I'm no ghost expert, but let's try to get to the bottom of some of this.... I've been here for a few hours now. The historic office building is old and the hallways are filled with marble and tile. So OF COURSE you're going to hear all kinds of things in and throughout the building. If someone is in the hallway, talking, walking, or dragging something, YOU WILL HEAR IT. If someone is above you, even doing a simple walk, YOU WILL HEAR IT. As I type this review, I just heard a child coughing in the hallway. I'm sure they're hundreds of feet away. I also heard the sound of water being turned on. Also, I'm from New Orleans. I believe in spirits. I don't get a weird vibe about this place. Trust me when I say that I've been to plantations or older homes where I've gotten my fair share of ghostly vibes. The building is just old and they did their best to transition it from an office building to a hotel. Some things and some noises you're just going to have to expect, "grow a pair" and get through. I like that this building is a two minute walk from the Alamo, a five minute walk from the river walk (most restaurants & shops), and a seven minute walk from the mall. We also walked to the convention center. I can tell you now that I DO NOT LIKE the bathroom situation. Seems like a small closet with a stand-up shower and a toilet that they barely fit in there. But they did their best. The staff is friendly and there's valet/ off street parking for an extra fee. Again you can walk just about anywhere you need to be downtown. There's also this thing called Uber, which seems to be helping people get around too. For the location alone, it's worth it to stay here. read more

Solid hotel, great location super close to alamo and riverwalk. The staff were helpful and friendly. The room is nice with a big bed and nice tv. Theres happy hour at the bar with lots of texas brewed options. Fabian works at the bar and he is awesome! Not only a solid bartender but very helpful at giving us information around the area and things to do and how to get there. I haven't had the breakfast yet but from what I've seen it looks amazing with lots of options from waffles to breakfast tacos! I would highly recommend staying here. read more

My experience at this hotel was a complete nightmare. First of all we got stuck in our room and couldn't get out. We were stuck in the room for almost two hours until they finally got the door open. They only tried to pic the lock because it's a "historical building." Then we finally get out and try to go get dinner but by the time we got out every single restaurant was booked or already closed. After that we got our new hotel room and the thermostat was broke and the air wouldn't get over 54 degrees. It was absolutely freezing in the room we even trying turning the heat on but it would not get any warmer. On top of all of that the bar was closed the whole time we were there. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone. read more

The room was awesome! Wonderful use of space and very inviting. We checked in after 10 pm and asked for a fridge in the room. Jackie advised there was noone working maintenance and we would have to wait until morning unless she could find anytime to do it herself. We passed and asked for extra trash bags the we could use to get extra ice for the food and drinks we had. Later my mom went to ask for an extra blanket and Jackie advised her that there were none available, but if she found one she would call the room, we didn't receive a call before going to sleep so I took the blanket from my bed for my mom. read more

The hotel looks very nice from street. The valet attendants were amazing. When we checked in the desk attendant was a bit rude to my wife, but it was hot so that may have been part of it. The rooms are little but well decorated and enough drawer space. Now getting our room cleaned was impossible. The person cleaning rooms was doing the one next to ours so we left. Several hours when we got back she was just starting ours. She said she would bring us hand towels and stuff later. Nothing was cleaned just some new shower towels. Garbages were full, bed was untouched. Most of my dirty clothes I had in a pile were not thrown onto the bed. We never got our hand towels. We went to breakfast with 45-50 minutes left and all the food was gone. We sat and waited for it to be replenished and nothing. As we left I said let's go somewhere else there is nothing left and employee says "you need to come earlier!" My wife woke up with bugs crawling on her. The sink is clogged. No rooming cleaning service. Decent hotel but not for the price. Side note the employee that told me to come earlier was enjoying his breakfast this morning. read more
