Unfortunately, my experience with the front desk staff, particularly a morning employee named Edgar, left a very negative impression. On more than one occasion, I returned to the hotel and stood outside the entrance for 15-20 minutes waiting to be let in. He had seen me leave earlier and could clearly see me waiting at the door, yet made no effort to assist. Beyond that, his overall demeanor came across as passive-aggressive and unwelcoming. It's disappointing because the rest of the property and staff were great, and I genuinely enjoyed many aspects of my stay. The only issue I had was the room I was staying in had a biiiig window and outside that window was the bar and lobby and till about 11PM there was a massive caravan of people drinking and chatting the night away. I am a light sleeper (DIVA) and had this gone on any later it would have been a real issue but things pretty much completely simmered down by 11 and I got a great nights sleep. Honestly the room bordering the bar/lobby will probably keep me from coming back but all and all the staff and place is pretty lovely. They seem to have rooms that don't have this issue.

The only rooms they had available were over the pool--and they make you sign a sound waiver basically admitting there will be loud music until 2am. That was not disclosed when booking, and it should be. So your choices are: wait around indefinitely for a normal room, or accept a "party zone" room and sign away your right to complain. We were traveling with my wife who's 7 months pregnant, so that was a pretty brutal situation to be put in. Then Sunday morning they crank the music again around 7am, so even if you do take the pool room, forget sleeping. The bar scene at night attracts a rough, low-rent crowd, and the hotel seems determined to cosplay as a Scottsdale party hotel. It's not. It's loud, poorly managed, and not upfront about what you're actually booking. If you value sleep or basic competence, stay somewhere else.

You need a space that's in the heart of Downtown in walking distance to all transport and hot spots; stadium, museums, fine dining, concert space? It's literally all that and I was able to walk and use a scooter to get around. It runs $80-$180 depending on the type of the room/bed size you want, but it will all be private and you would never bunk with a stranger. It's a unique little spot and honestly I can see it coming in handy for layovers and hangovers (from a night out). The Boxstel came in so frickin handy after too many margaritas and shots at Elton's Dueling Piano Bar last night. After spending the night: Easy to get in and out of (locks and code worked perfectly) because instructions were everywhere. Caveat, we had to take the stairs and navigating 2 sets of stairs is difficult when you're buzzed. Thank goodness for the installed railings. We felt safe because 24 hr cameras and monitors. WEAR the Monster headphones provided. You WILL hear the extremely loud train outside, even though the hotel has great soundproofing. You will also hear the springs/squeaks/movement from your bunkmate on top 2 feet above. You will also hear the ridiculously loud and creaky floor boards everywhere. Blessedly though you can't hear other hotel guests Crazy amount of light, but the blackout roll curtains took care of that. Shower took a about 5 minutes to warm, and the pressure was limp as a baby's wrist, but it's expected from these old buildings and the only downtown hotel I stayed at that had decent pressure was PDN, after their upgrade. It was nice that the Boxstel provided towels (even offered extra ones) a small container of soap and a small bar of soap. I've stayed at motels that didn't even give you that for double the price It's cold, and we couldn't figure out the remote to turn on the heat and didn't know who to call, so we kinda suffered though the cold night. On the plus side, bedding is warm, laundered, and the bed for me is amazing. I slept on the bottom bunk and the bed was firm, just the way I like it. Even after bed head and a night of tossing and turning in a strange bed. I never felt claustrophobic. I still wouldn't recommend it for families, since I'd AirBnB still for a home like experience. The gentleman working the breakfast area was incredibly kind and frequently checked on guests. The manager (jet-black hair and a big black mustache) was also very friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately, the guest rooms told a different story. Our first night was spent in a double queen room where the towels smelled strongly of mildew and the heater took forever to warm the room. For the remainder of our stay, we moved into a king suite with a rollaway bed. Initially I was excited. More space, bigger bed, huge closet, and even a balcony! Then reality set in. The balcony was filthy and the view wasn't exactly something I'd call scenic. The bathroom doorknob was broken, the bathroom door didn't fit properly in the frame, and the ceiling was actually coming down. Every time the door opened or closed it scraped against the ceiling. There was also a leak under the sink, forcing us to use our bath towels to soak up water. The biggest disappointment, however, was the housekeeping staff. Several employees appeared visibly irritated when we declined room service early one morning. One employee became noticeably upset and began loudly speaking in Spanish while looking directly at me. When I asked if there was a problem, the answer was "No." Whether there was a misunderstanding or not, the interaction felt uncomfortable and unprofessional. I reported it to the front desk, but it seemed to be brushed aside. I was told they had spoken with the manager, who claimed that I must have brought the bedbug from somewhere else -- an absolutely outrageous and unacceptable accusation. When I asked to change rooms, they gave me a room just two doors down. I requested a room on a different floor or farther away, but they insisted there were no available rooms and continued to treat me with rudeness, arrogance, and zero professionalism. When I returned at 12 PM to speak directly with the manager, I was shocked to hear yet another baseless accusation -- that I had been rude to the receptionist. The fact that a hotel would blame a guest for a bedbug found in their bed, and then act as if changing a room is some kind of unreasonable request, is beyond comprehension. Although I still had one night left, I checked out early. The manager said they would not charge me for the last night, but since I was on a business trip, waiving one night's fee does nothing to compensate for the inconvenience, the stress, or the humiliation I experienced.
