We stayed in the bunk room with our family of five recently - do not recommend. The kids/bunk beds were fine but the full bed was so uncomfortable we made the switch to the couch. The sheets on all the beds did not feel clean. We ordered multiple items to our room to be ready upon checkin (champagne, tea service), neither were there. I was handed a warm can of champagne at the front desk when I asked about it and we never saw the tea service. I would be less annoyed if the whole experience (room and items) wasn't so expensive in the first place. The decor/vibe itself was ... fun? Didn't make up for all the other things. read more

Decent hotel in a very centralized location. There's very good theming here. I enjoyed walking in and feeling like I was somewhere unique. The room we got was a standard queen room, and it was a bit tight. The bed was basically the only thing that could fit in the room. We had to use the desk to put our suit case because there'd be no walking space otherwise. The elevator was also a tad small, so larger groups will definitely need to make multiple trips. There was a lot to like about this hotel. I am obsessed with the lobby, it had cool art, fantastic music, and a free beer from 5pm-6pm. I wish it had its own bar so I could hang out there some more! The location would be hard to beat too, an easy walk to the Needle and an even easier walk to the Pike Place Market, plus it had some great stuff right nearby (and the Westlake stop if you need to go anywhere). There is also a luggage hold system available even after you check out, which was an amazing way to explore Seattle more without my massive carry-on. I would like to stay there again, and hope I can! The atmosphere was really cool. But there are some things to be aware of, especially at the price point. However, the hotel room itself left a bit to be desired. It was quite small, which is not too big a problem for me as a solo traveler, I actually sometimes quite like it! It was clean as well. The window AC unit was a bit tricky to operate and seemed to be either very VERY cold or off. There wasn't a fridge/microwave, so be aware if you're planning on takeout. All this is normally okay for me, but my shower area REEKED of cigarettes. Not fresh ones either, stale smoke like you just hit the casino floor in Vegas. I'm no morality police, but that stale smoke smell is tough in a hotel (and always makes me nervous I'll start to smell like it). I feel like those are fixable issues, and honestly knowing about them I would probably book all over again. read more

As I've said many times over, I am a no frills hotel guest! So keep that in mind while going over this review. It's a nice hotel from the outside and view of the lobby. Elevators were teenie tiny and quite slow. One ride I was worried I was even stuck... there are only two elevators and they fit two people with a luggage each realistically. If you like touching butts then slide on in! I opted most times to walk up the stairs on more times than not. The lobby during December had a nice, warm, cozy, festive vibe. Fireplace, decorated Christmas tree, couches and lounge area with ice cold water (not common in Seattle). I did read a note in the room mentioning an hour for drinks (PM) and an hour for coffee daily (AM). The room was a bit cramped and basic. The overall vibe of the hotel was giving a modern New York rock asthetic. Red, black, rock artists, mirrors... all that. Window AC, tiny coat closet. Minimal bathroom space that still fit a tub lol. I appreciated the hair dryer, the desk and side tables and the full length mirror on the closet door for the daily fit checks. Mr G always needs a fitness room in the hotels that we stay at. I'm more of a "let's get our daily steps in" kinda chick but I have been taking advantage of gym time when it's included in the stay recently (calories dont burn themselves at my age *tear*). I liked being able to control the room temp. There were a couple of ellipticals, a couple of treadmills, a couple of stationary bikes, a workout bench and a set of weights. Basic but still useful. On the same block there are a couple of good restaurants we found and came in handy when hunger struck unexpectedly. It is a bit of a walk from the nearest 1 line light rail station, maybe 7 minutes. In the cold rain that can definitely determine how badly you need to get out at that moment. In that case, the hotel has a bucket of umbrellas to take with you. On that note, they also had a couple of bikes (with locks) to borrow as well. During the day there was a doorman, like ok Seattle... stay classy alright? I can see how many would think this is a crummy place to stay. It's not upscale by any means but for the low profile hotel guest like me it was fine. I can store my things l, get cleaned up and have a rest, check, check and check. Hotel Max genuinely offers that boutique experience in the center of where you want to be. From the moment I arrived, everyone was friendly and most importantly. . .well informed. I really valued their suggestions on local spots as well as the own offerings of within the hotel as well. The room was clean, comfortable and my own little oasis. Dump. Absolute dump of a room. I have never seen a hotel with a window air conditioner. Room was small, dirty, dingy. I should have known when I checked in on a Tuesday night at 8pm, and the front desk had NOBODY there. They had ONE worker to man the desk and she stepped away. Can you imagine a hotel with ONE employee working the front desk. They leave a sign that says, "sorry, stepped away helping a guest". This is not a small hotel either. This place is decent, but if you have some more money to spend, I would go for a bigger brand name. Otherwise, good value found here. Pros: I enjoyed the aesthetic and newness of this place. The lobby is super cozy with big comfy seats, a fire place, and board games available to play. The check in staff were nice, and they switched our room without issue upon discovering the scent of cigarettes in our original room. The rooms were clean, amenities all present, and the bed was big and comfy. The location was superb. It was a 7ish minute walk to the rail and a bus stop across the street that will take you to the Seattle Public Library. The Link rail was also a must to get to other parts of the area, like UW. It was a 10ish min walk to Pike's Market and lots of restaurants and shopping nearby and a rail ride away. Cons: The biggest issue was the noise. The walls are paper thin like other reviews noted. I sleep with ear plugs but could still hear our neighbor talking or watching TV. Thankfully they weren't too loud and the AC noise could drown them out. The city noise also came through loud and clear even at night. Our original room was a corner room that was quite small but great views due to windows being on two walls rather than one. Our second room was much bigger but still a cramped space. There was much more room on either side of the bed but not at the foot of it. Still, enough room to move around. The AC was a window unit that oddly would run every few minutes regardless of the temperature I set it at when on the heat setting, making the room too warm. Overall, the cons were nit-picky aside from the noise issue and the pros were very much appreciated. I think for the price, it may be hard to come by a better value in Downtown Seattle although I think it was more expensive than it was worth. Would I stay again? Hard maybe. read more

I stayed at Hotel Max for the first time not too long ago. Immediately I loved the ambiance! I had a bike and there wasn't an ADA door so that made it hard, but they were able to store my bike so it was hassle free after that. The front desk attendant was very kind and helpful and very informed about the hotel, hotel chain, and food options. I felt comfortable. I love the the different images on the doors it was very cool! My problem was when I was sleeping! There was so many attempts of people opening my door, I also heard every door near me open and close. I paid for late check out and heard multiple people attempt to open my door as well as had someone knock and yell at my door at 11:48 AM when I had a 1 pm check out. That makes me unsure if I would come again especially as a safety measure. read more

What a disappointmen! Staff was great, though. Room for 2 people was literally 10x12. Shower was literally a small converted closet as well as the toilet. If you were a larger person, you might not fit or turn around in the restroom. Fridge and air conditioning nice. Free WiFi. No coffee in room with limited coffee service hours in the morning downstairs. Paid extra 96.00 "resort" fee for "amenities" which were not all available, like free monorail passes and discounts for Argosy and whatever. So we got a glass of beer and didn't use their bikes. I was shocked by the rudeness and lack of professionalism when I called a month in advance to adjust our reservation stay. The woman who answered said she could not help me with my request. I asked to speak to a manager to see if maybe they could better assist me and that's when she hung up on me. What the heck happened to Hotel Max? I stayed a few years back, prior to pandemic, with exceptional service, rooms and restaurant. Now, this place is NOTHING close to what it was before. The service is honestly terrible--apparently it's an inconvenience to ask for additional bottles of water or what snacks are available; Samuel was nice during booking to add flowers and a champs to the room. The room was clean and appointed, but the walls are thin so street noise and neighbors could keep you up. The pillows are terribly hard. The property is located perfectly in the city! 5 min walk to Pike Place or the tram to Space Needle. It's disappointing to see that Max hasn't replaced the closure of Miller Guild in 2021-it was a huge asset, as a consumer, for the hotel. Again, what happened to Hotel Max? I'll most likely look elsewhere for my next trip-Westin is right next door with lots of amenities! read more

Worst Hotel ever for us. As they say, the first & last impressions are very important. 1. We arrived at a non working elevator, out of order the entire stay F- M. imagine you have to go up to the 7th floor, and every time, you have to wait 5 and 10 minutes to go either up or down. 2. Furthermore, elevator max capacity 2 skinny adults and 2 small luggage. Also, it is used by housekeeping with carts. 3. The room is like a prison cell: not queen but double bed with 2 feet of space on each side. 4. There is no room for luggage. We had to put under an ancient desk that looks goodwill brand. 5. Bathrooms are separated from the shower, which means when you sit on the throne, your head is touching the door ( I am only 5 feet 6) 6.we left on Monday with the same sign on one of 2 tiny elevators. I am trying to stay again on the dates of July 25/26 and shows "sold out" but when I adjust to stay July 24/25/26 in then allows me to book. I told the woman I am wanting to pay money to stay here but it sounds like they are prioritizing other "future guest" who stay on their preferred nights. This is a solid hotel in many respects, probably more of a 3 1/2 stars. Customer service and cleanliness were all very good. I had to get a hat out of my car parked on site but I didnt want to move it and the valet went and got it for me no problem. Location is good too, very central and close to the light rail. The rooms aren't shoeboxes like other new hotels - there was room to move around. However the bathroom was SUPER small. You could barely turn around in the shower. The bathroom is also located where you'd normally have a tv, right at the foot of the bed, so your bedmate gets a front row seat to your pooping. It also had a strong mildew smell in there. I did not enjoy my stay here. The shower/bath drain was partially clogged/not draining so I'd be standing in soapy water as I showered. I told hotel management on my first night and they never fixed the issue in the four days I was staying at the hotel. Their elevators are SMALL- maximum 4 adults if crammed in. For the duration of my stay, they had only one of the two elevators functional. The door to my room was loose in the door jam, so whenever another guest opened/closed their door down the hall, it would cause my door to rattle loudly. I stayed news eve to new years day. I was charged a deposit fee of 100 dollars, which they said would be refunded to me upon leaving. I asked for a later checkout, which was 65 dollars. They then told me when I called today ( 1/4/26 ) that I had to pay a destination fee. I was never told that, they don't disclose that on their website, they don't disclose this when telling you about the deposit. So instead of at least getting 35 dollars back, I receive nothing. Hotel Max is a scam with shoddy service. There was blood on my sheets that wasn't mine, I didn't see it until I went to check out as I barely slept under the covers. The people next to me were loud until 4am with the male screaming "I'm the motherfucking king" all night and telling his girlfriend she was asking for it, then they'd have loud pornstar sex that sounded like two fat salmons slapping against wet rocks. The elevators were tiny, one of them broke during my stay and they took forever to come. I got locked out of my room before check out, and had to go get a new card. One of the worst hotel experiences I have ever had. I urge those who read this to go stay elsewhere. Save your money and your sanity. read more

Been staying at this spot the last couple of years when I came through Seattle. It's a cute, clean, boutique-y grunge hotel. There is a Warhol in the lobby and the staff is generally nice. I must say, my last visit will be my final though. Just be aware that if you put your room on a debit card, they will take a hold from your bank for the cost of the entirety of your stay and then when you pay with a different card upon departure, the hold on your debit card (for entirety of your stay) takes approximately five days to clear. $1000 paid upon departure and four days for the $1000 debit to clear. Unacceptable. Staff is of no help and only provide incorrect information. Don't get me started on the elevator. Bummer Max Hotel... so much potential here. read more

Hotel max staff, thank you for your hospitality! I used hopper to book our stay and had to book 3 separate reservations (last minute change of plans). We requested to keep the same room for the 3 days and they accommodated us without any issues. Front desk staff...you all were very helpful and I am grateful for everything. Rooms were clean and the room size was enough for 3 adults (we got the Max room - double) if you want more walking space, I suggest do a bigger room. The bathroom was small but it had all the necessities. Shampoo and conditioner made my hair very soft! They even provided lotion as well. Unlike other hotels, they gave us full bottle sized ones. Lobby - warm, smelled like essential oil. It was a bit overwhelming but I got very used to it. They got free beer around 5-7pm? Pretty rad. The hotel closes at 10pm but you can use your room key to access the hotel after hours. FYI, they also provide free coffee/tea every morning! Location - close to everything! Less than 5 mins drive to any notable downtown locations and walking distance is less than 20 mins. Safe location for the most part! read more

I was so excited to stay at this hotel! On this particular trip to Seattle, I was in town for work and saw Hotel Max on my company's list of places I could book. What a steal. It was easy to get to via Uber/Lyft (didn't need to park) and walk around. Great location that's 10-15 minutes away from most places you'd want to visit in this part of the city, i.e. Pike Place. Check-in was fun. Everyone gets a welcome draft beer (even if it's a cheap, watered down one) and a text message with WiFi details and locations of coffee, ice, fitness center, and amenities. Service is always great coming and going from the hotel. Not much of a lobby to hang out in, but I'm guessing most people are constantly on the move during their stay. The room itself was pretty with the red walls but very inconvenient. There was a "step up" to the separate bathroom and shower, which became a tripping hazard. The internet was slow, and the TV was ancient. While the bathwater was warm, the shampoo and condition were very dry. And there was a bright light outside my room that the shade didn't cover. For a weekend work trip, Hotel Max sufficed, but I wouldn't say the stay was relaxing by any means. It really did encourage me to keep getting out and exploring the city. I love when I can get a hold of the hotel concierge via text message these days. Free delicious beer every day 5-6pm in the lobby where you can converse with people staying at the hotel you can choose enjoy a beer in solitude and people watch the Seattle walkers. They usually have a cider and a beer on tap only serve it 5-6, they do not sell it. Parking price is outrageous, advertised free parking, but it wasn't. Has to be the most expensive parking in all of Seattle, but you can come and go, they have ev charging too. They were suppose to give me the king suite, but it was already booked one night of my 4 night stay, so they put me in way smaller room. Rooms are cool they all seem a tiny different. Cool rock theme throughout the whole hotel. Walking distance to the convection center which was great for me. read more

Came here for a weekend getaway and to celebrate our anniversary and was pretty disappointed with the experience. First off, the walls are pretty thin so you can hear everything. Second, the heater/air conditioner is is REALLY loud so not ideal for light sleepers. Third, you have to request to have your room cleaned and they do not take same day requests. Fourth, everyone at the front desk was pretty welcoming and pleasant EXCEPT for Maria. I believe we encountered her pretty much everyday during our stay and did not appreciate her attitude. Plus, the customer service received by her was well below average. It's like why work in customer service when you obviously dislike it?? Most hotels seem fine for the traveler who is having everything go right - but it is the mark of a great hotel when a traveler has everything going wrong - and the hotel is a port in the storm to recover from canceled flights, bad Ubers, and traffic delays. Hotel Max unfortunately did not rise to the challenge. More concerned with style than service - the hotel is pretty, has comfortable (but squeaky) beds, charming 'hip' art in the lobby, and a turntable and Bluetooth speaker option in the room I chose which - I admit - I liked a lot. What it does not have - not upon request, not via room service, not in any way - is the ability to have coffee in your room. Lobby coffee service starts at 7a. Not only am I a 'two coffees in my pjs before I'm ready for public consumption, on this occasion I had a 7a flight. Which left me driving to the airport at 530a with no Java. This may seem like a small thing - but as a frequent traveler I cannot emphasize how crucial coffee in the room options are to me. Had I known that going for a 'luxury' upgrade hotel to treat myself when I was in town for a funeral would've meant no coffee - I would have gone somewhere else. Also while the hotel lists parking as a guest option - they do not make it clear that it is a $55 a night fee for this parking. (Would've also been a no go for me had I known) Other room details - the shower is very small, the bathroom is very small, and the walls are thin - which can be an issue when every room has speakers to play music. The second star I give this place is for the staff. They were very nice and did allow me an early check in. Honestly if it wasn't for the coffee / parking issue I would have given the hotel 3 stars. read more

When I booked I asked through the comments that there was 2 Adults and we needed 1 king or 2 beds , we got the tiniest room and 1 full bed. When we asked for a bigger bed, the front desk supervisor Samuel told us we could get it for $30 , and when I asked and told him I'm in the hospitality industry, his response was " I'm the supervisor and I choose to enforce the$30 upgrade fee, even we do have plenty of room." Also they offer NO options except to valet your car , but don't tell you there are a lot of self parking lots very near by , and that from 8pm to 6 am street parking is free !! If your on a budget this be an ok place to stay, otherwise for about $30- 50 more could have stayed at a much nicer place in the same area !!! We walked into our hotel room that we purchased as a Modern King. They put us into a mini. We were eventually put into some kind of king. Michael, who works there, told us We would be compensated, He said Sam would deal with that. Apparently Sam is the manager. Mike told us they were oversold as "that's what happens when "we oversell" We just left, the angry guy at the front desk told us he'd talk to the manager about it tomorrow. And he was angry. If anyone has to have a reservation there, don't trust they will give you a nice room. And if that guy who works for at the front desk comes for you, hide. He's a horrible person. Walking distance from various main attractions and yummy food (whether you're dining out or ordering in) -Rooms are spacious enough -Area is mostly quiet -Front desk staff is pleasant Cons: -Walls are way too thin. I could literally hear everything going on in the next room (i.e. convos, phone alarms, outbursts, music, etc.) -There's a random $25 "lifestyle fee" that they hit you with upon checking in -Housekeeping only serviced the room upon request. We were always on the move and kept forgetting to ask and as a result, the room never got cleaned during our stay -Bathroom was a bit cramped and small -Only one of the elevators worked. It was tiny, crowded easily & sometimes had a wait line. They have stairs though -The front desk staff NEVER answered the phone when I called during after hours (via the room phone, nor my cell) two nights in a row -On our first night in, the toilet wouldn't flush, we were too exhausted to go back down to the front desk and no one answered the phone when I called. It got fixed midday, the next day -The room was all carpet (excluding the bathroom, thankfully) In terms of convenience, this is a decent choice due to the location. First, they dont tell you when you booked that parking is $50 a night, in a parking lot across the street where there were at least 7 homeless camping tents in between thecspots, i called the number on the booth and the guy on the answering end told me he charges $39 the hotel os screwing him so he was mad and sounded like it. The room book was no smoking. When i went in it smelled like a marijuana den. I complained the desk guy told me "well pot is legal here, dude" So, i cancel my booking, $186. As my company decided not to work on Dec 27 all of sudden, I decided to have solo trip to Seattle after Christmas. I booked through Groupon. I'm always like walking around daytime and hotel is just for sleeping. But for my age and privacy wise, I don't want to stay at hostel. Or some air B&B had bad location neither. I'm glad to find this boutique hotel and perfect for what I wanted. I arrived around 2:30pm and check in was quite smooth. As I booked 2 nights, they asked me if I wanted to have bed making or if not, they would give me $5 voucher that I could use for the bar on the ground floor. I choose bed making service. My room was tiny one. But enough for one person. When I got into bathroom, I found previous guest's used contact lenses left on the floor. It didn't bother me for staying but you know I didn't like the fact they didn't notice it. So two days later when I check out, I mentioned it. The front desk lady's apology was very sincere and told me what they needed to prevent. That's enough. That small incident doesn't change my impression for this lovely hotel. I loved every morning's fresh brewed coffee. Even they gave me in my small thermo. For evening craft beer time was awesome too. Sitting near the fireplace, just chil. If you want to have water, come down to the lobby and they have water jar with some citrus. Help yourself! I found amazon echo on my room desk. Alexa can be an assistant concierge. It seemed kinda dry and cool service at first sight but at lobby the guests mingling and yes the front desk can see who is the guest of the hotel too. Security wise, that good idea. This hotel brought me new thoughts what they can do for cost wise and environmental wise with some twists. Maybe I will use again. read more

Traveling is a large part of my career, and staying in 5-6 hotels per week for 3-4 months is typical for me. This hotel's location is good, but its comfort level is poor. After checking-in and grappling with my bag and one other guest in the smallest elevator ever, my first room had some twists and turns just to get inside, the tub was behind one door and a toilet & sink behind another, and it had the loudest window-mounted a/c unit I've ever heard. There was absolutely no way to get sleep with it on, which is kind of necessary during the high late-June temperatures (there's currently a heat advisory for Seattle.) I immediately changed rooms, but found the a/c unit to be the same (I was told that every room in the hotel had the same unit.) The room however was easy to get into, and the tub, toilet and sink were in one room, so I decided to keep it. The bathroom was up a step from the rest of the room, but also has a short step (see photos, shoes pictured for scale.) This is precarious and with a standalone glass sink-top straight ahead is potentially very dangerous to anyone not constantly aware of the steps - especially at night when the room is dark. In the hotel's defense, they have small "step up" and "step down" signs on the appropriate side of the door. These are known in the trade as anti-litigation signs. I can't imagine how many other room layouts and pitfalls there are in this hotel, and I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy. On second thought... I would. In addition to the 30 dollar a day "resort" fee, the hotel won't let you check in before 4pm without paying an additional 45 dollar charge. So they just have people sit in the lobby while the rooms sit empty upstairs. Just not that great for hospitality. read more

Where to begin when chatting up this place that I've had a relationship with for almost 15 years? The first time I stayed here v. the most recent still offers one of THE most comfortable beds I've had a great night's rest. The bathroom always has great amenities for you to use while you're here, and the hallways are always a treat. The artwork on the doors is great and the blackout curtains are always a plus ...especially when you want to catch up on some much-needed Z's. Fun Fact, Sub-Pop Records is based in Seattle. Hotel Max has an entire floor dedicated to the label. Ask to stay on the 5th floor, especially if you're a fan of indie music as well as the blueprint for the 'Grunge' scene. Each room comes equipped with 4-5 albums from Sub-Pop bands as well as a turntable to enjoy the jams. Some things have changed a bit since the last time I stayed here... not necessarily for the worst. For instance, the last time I was here, they offered a happy hour from 4-6p. They now offer a 'check-in' beer and that's it. I was a little disappointed but not too much seeing that I had a 6-er in the fridge upstairs, and I bought a Lagunitas from the front desk. Overall, Hotel Max is my go-to when staying in Seattle. I will admit to staying close to the airport once and that was a mistake. The airplanes didn't cause me to lose sleep as much as the bedding and lack of comfort the other place offered. I love MAX and will continue to lean on them every time I'm in Seattle. If you're seeking a spot, whether you're visiting for a day or two, bringing a loved one for a special weekend, or would like to be in the heart of the city while having so many things to choose from just a stone's throw away, please consider Hotel Max. This place should be called HOSTEL Max because it is more like a hostel than a hotel. Fine if you have low expectations for cleanliness, the furniture in the room was all banged up and dusty and I even found a toenail clipping on the carpet The so-called happy hour consists of 1 beer choice from a guy with a keg. The so-called complementary coffee in the lobby didn't even offer creamer, just sugar packets. Upon checking out early this morning (couldn't last the 3 days here that we had booked) the 2 women at the front desk gave passive-aggressive attitudes. read more
